Changes in the workplace | People & Politics

In the last few years, employment has changed dramatically in Germany. Fewer and fewer people are being offered the long-term contracts that have traditionally been a hallmark of the country's job market. And increasingly, people are having to work longer hours for lower paychecks. Studies have shown that every fifth employee in Germany now works in the low-wage sector, with few or no benefits and little social protection. Only every second entry-level position now offers an unlimited long-term contract. Politicians are alarmed.
