00:00Let's start off with a news story from the National Football League that involves a former NFL coach who ironically is now working for Barstool at the moment.
00:08John Gruden, you may remember him, head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, was fired by the Raiders.
00:14And now there's a lawsuit that's going back and forth between him and the National Football League and an arbiter has ruled in favor of John Gruden.
00:21And here's the very latest right now that the lawsuits attempt to move the case into arbitration overseen by Commissioner Roger Goodell was unconscionable as ruled by the Nevada Supreme Court.
00:30The court emphasized that the NFL Constitution does not apply to former employees like Gruden, rejecting the idea that Gruden could arbitrate a case in which he was named a defendant.
00:39So Goodell cannot get involved in this case specifically to rule on whether or not Gruden had some improprieties while as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.
00:47Needless to say, this could pave the way eventually for Gruden to return as a coach in the National Football League in the future.
00:54Stay tuned. Meanwhile, the beat goes on at Los Angeles Rams camp.
00:58And as of now, there is no clarity whatsoever on starting quarterback Matthew Stafford.
01:02Let's not get it twisted. He was supposed to return Monday to take some limited practice, and he did not.
01:07As of right now, Stafford still has not practiced with the team at all in this training camp and likely will not play in week two of the NFL preseason.
01:14So what is the latest and what exactly is going on with Stafford and his bad back, which has plagued him now for the last couple of years?
01:21Here's head coach Sean McVay on Stafford's potential return to the field.
01:25I'm sure the first question you guys will have is about Matthew.
01:28And, you know, like we've said, we're going to be flexible and fluid.
01:31I think more than anything, I feel for Matthew because of how much he wants to be out there and feel good.
01:37But ultimately what ended up happening, had a great workout, felt good.
01:41But then, you know, come in today and it doesn't feel great.
01:43And so didn't think that was the right decision to be able to push him.
01:47We've kind of always talked about flexibility, being fluid with some of the plans.
01:51And I think more than anything, you know, I feel for a guy that, you know, I really care about that wants to be out there more than anything else.
01:58We're going to be smart, you know, but he didn't feel good enough.
02:01And we didn't think it was the right thing to do based on, you know, how he woke up feeling today.
02:07Yeah, he just didn't, you know, it didn't respond the way that you wanted it to.
02:10He felt, you know, when he was out here working out, it was great.
02:13And then, you know, it's like anything else, you know, let's communicate.
02:16We all know there's nobody that's tougher than this guy.
02:19And so we are going to still be safe.
02:21But I think more than anything, it's like, you know, he wants to be out there more than anybody.
02:25You know, his teammates can't wait for him to be out there.
02:27But I'm going to defer to, you know, Reggie and Dr. Watkins and then listen in to Matthew's feedback because we just felt like, you know, it wasn't in alignment with how he was feeling to, you know, to progress accordingly.
02:40And the starting quarterback would be Jimmy Garoppolo.
02:42And no word on whether or not he'll play in this week's game.
02:45Of course, the Rams cannot afford to lose him.
02:47Then they're down to their third string and haven't even start the season.
02:50Same could be said for the Green Bay Packers.
02:52Don't expect to see Jordan Love on the field this week or even in week three of the preseason.
02:56But it does look like week one is in play.
02:58Why?
02:59Because he underwent a procedure on his left thumb.
03:02And they're hopeful to have him back at practice next week.
03:05There's no reason to rush Love, of course, in the preseason.
03:08But good news, it is a left hand, not a right.
03:10Meanwhile, Raheem Morris told reporters this morning, get this, that Michael Penix Jr.
03:15Not going to play in this week's preseason game.
03:18And usually quarterbacks don't play in week three either.
03:20Also, Kirk Cousins unlikely to play too.
03:22This leaves the door open for the Tennessee Titans potentially to go into Atlanta
03:26and win a preseason game.
03:27Although the line right now currently on the FanDuel Sportsbook, Tennessee minus four and a half.
03:31Pittsburgh Steelers Cam Hayward has hinted that he is not going to play this season
03:37under his current contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
03:40He wants a new one and has pretty much said it loud and clear, including yesterday after practice.
03:45Looking for my contract to be addressed.
03:51Honestly, looking to be valued.
03:53In my eyes, when I look around and, you know, at my position, I think I'm like, what, 22nd as a D-Tech.
04:03I'm 36 as a D-lineman.
04:05And, you know, I know what I bring to this team and what I'm capable of on and off the field.
04:13And so it's hard for me to, you know, have after the year I've had to really justify playing at the number I'm playing at.
04:22You know, I understand I signed a contract last year.
04:24But to be completely honest with you, when I signed that, I told them, you know, when I have an all-pro year, expecting me to come back.
04:35And you can look at the contract and see what it was.
04:38But, you know, I think everybody kind of giggled a little bit.
04:42But in my head, I used it as motivation to go out there and prove it.
04:46Although Kalen DeBoer at the University of Alabama has not discussed it, it looks like starting quarterback is Ty Simpson for the Crimson Tide going into the season.
04:56He's been the backup at Alabama the last couple of years.
04:59Meanwhile, Shohei Otani in new alleged hot water.
05:02Remember the last time it was sports betting.
05:04This time, it's a Hawaii developer and a real estate broker who were suing Otani and agent Nezbolelo, alleging that they were wrongfully pushed out of a $240 million luxury housing project on the Big Island.
05:17The lawsuit says that Otani was brought in for promotional purposes, but he and his agent used their influence to pressure their business partner into firing the original team.
05:26It is a lawsuit.
05:27There's money involved, and Otani makes a lot of money.
05:29So this is not surprising.
05:30Meanwhile, what is surprising is the Los Angeles Angels just dominate the Los Angeles Dodgers again.
05:364-0 yesterday.
05:37They beat them every time they played them this season.
05:39How about that?
05:39Zach Neto hit two home runs.
05:41Otani did homer.
05:427-4 win for the Angels.
05:44How about that over the Dodgers?
05:46Meanwhile, it looks like the San Francisco Giants are just about cooked.
05:49Padres win yesterday 4-1.
05:51Udarvish six innings pitched, four hits, one in runs, six strikeouts.
05:54The Giants made a big acquisition.
05:56And Rafael Devers, you may remember, a couple of months ago, their offense has gone south ever since.
06:00And it doesn't seem to be getting any better.
06:02Here's Bob Melvin on that.
06:03You guys have 25 strikeouts and one walk over the last two losses.
06:07What are you seeing from the at-bats that you'd like to see improve?
06:10We're getting beat.
06:11I mean, a lot of fastballs tonight.
06:14You know, Darvish is a guy that spins the ball a little bit and threw a lot of heaters.
06:18So good command of it.
06:20Probably best game he's pitched this year.
06:22And I think at times we try to get a little too aggressive when we're a team that makes pitchers work and draw some walks and get some deeper counts.
06:32Logan was so effective, efficient through those first six innings.
06:35What really flipped against the bottom third of the lineup in seventh?
06:39Just got some pitches in the middle of the play.
06:43You know, Rafi comes back, ties it 1-1.
06:46We feel pretty good about where we are.
06:47He's pitching really good again, using all his pitches.
06:50They're off balance.
06:51A lot of balls on the ground, which you typically see when Webby's good.
06:56You know, and then all of a sudden they got on him pretty quickly.
07:00Best kept secret in baseball, meanwhile, is not a secret anymore.
07:03The Milwaukee Brewers are the best team in the game, and it's not particularly close.
07:06They win their 10th straight game yesterday.
07:09Jose Quintana, sixth innings pitched, and Brewers beat the Pirates 7-1.
07:13Kyle Schwarber hit his 42nd home run for the Phillies.
07:15Free agent, by the way, after the season, as the Phillies beat the Reds 4-1 as well.
07:20Alex Bregman returns to Houston yesterday and didn't go his way exactly, although he was fine.
07:26The Astros hold off the Red Sox 7-6.
07:28Ramon Urias, Chaz McCormick each hit home runs.
07:31Roman Anthony struck out to end the game.
07:33Will Warren helped the Yankees to a victory, 6-2, and the Yankees beat the Twins by a final of 6-2.
07:40Finally, the Texas Rangers get a win.
07:42Jake Berger with an RBI single in the 10th inning.
07:44Rangers were down 5-0 against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and they came back to win.
07:49Nathan Zucaldi's having a great month, 6-0, .47 earned run average in the month of July.
07:54Good for the Rangers to step back in this thing.
