00:00Denzel Washington, Aesop Rocky and Jeffrey Wright were among the stars that walk the red carpet

00:07for the new sparkly film, Highest to Lowest, Monday in Brooklyn.

00:13The film is expected to be in U.S. theaters by August 15.

00:18Entertainment is just a by-product of art.

00:21The true nature of what we do is gather together where we collectively think of who we are,

00:28who we want to be, who we hope to become, where we've failed, where we've triumphed,

00:33decide what our values are and then leave and go out and act on them.

00:38That's the role of art.

00:39What thoughts are to the individual, art and film in this case, are for the community as a whole,

00:45the place where we reflect on who we are, decide what our values are,

00:49and then go out and act on those collectively.

00:51And so that's why it's always important to keep creative.

01:09I've never acted before, so this was such an incredible moment,

01:12and it was so fun to be able to create anything for this film,

01:16and being part of such a legendary moment and legacy,

01:19and work with dope people first and foremost was so enjoyable, and I'm so honored.

01:26I remember the first day of filming, he came over to me kind of like he was my coach or something like that,

01:32and he was just like, just got on my face, just like, let's do this, let's go, let's go.

01:36I remember going to text my manager, like, man, that was probably the coolest thing that's ever happened to me so far in my life.

01:44I'm 26 years old, you know what I'm saying?

01:45And, you know, just being a kid from Brooklyn, so, yeah.

01:50It is the fifth time Washington has been directed by Lee.

01:54The right time is that Denzel sent me the script and said, you want to do it?

02:02And so he called me at the right time.

02:04This project was brought to me by Mr. Denzel Washington.

02:08I got to feed the streets, my lady and a newborn kid,

02:12and I ain't trying to go back and do another big dig.
