Skills Minister Baroness Smith says new technical colleges will each train 40,000 construction workers over the next four years, supporting the Government’s plan to build 1.5 million homes this Parliament.

00:00In building the one and a half million houses that we've pledged, we're going to need skilled workers.
00:05There are good jobs to be had there and we want those to be available for British people
00:10rather than people coming in from overseas, which employers have tended to do a bit too much in the past.
00:16So the colleges we're announcing today will be one in each region.
00:20They will be really experts in construction training.
00:24They'll be able themselves to train 40,000 people over the next four years,
00:29but also to work with other colleges, with other training providers, with employers themselves
00:34to make sure that we've got the best expertise, the best teachers, the best equipment, best courses
00:40to be able to ensure that we're getting the skilled construction workers that we need to build those homes for the future.
