Bernie Sanders Asked Straight-Up: 'Is There Another Presidential Run In You?'

Speaking to CNN's Dana Bash, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) was asked about a potential presidential campaign.

00:08Something that I'm sure you have seen, a Gallup poll.

00:11Did you see this Gallup poll?

00:13Yeah.

00:14And what the Gallup poll found was that you are one of the most widely admired Americans,

00:19and I believe you're only second to the Pope.

00:25You want me to declare my candidacy for Pope?

00:27Is that what you're asking?

00:29I don't think that you're eligible for a lot of reasons.

00:31Then I won't do that.

00:33I watched you tonight.

00:35I've watched you for a very, very long time.

00:38You're obviously still full of vigor and intensity for the things that you're passionate about

00:45and have been for decades.

00:48Is there another presidential run in you?

00:50Oh, God.

00:51Let's not worry about that.

00:53I am going to be 84 years of age next month, as a matter of fact.

00:58I think that speaks for itself.

01:00Right now, what is more important, in my view, and I want to say, obviously, the most progressive

01:08candidate that we can have, is to rally the grassroots of America.

01:14A moment ago, you asked me about West Virginia and why people vote for Donald Trump.

01:18Our job is to turn that around.

01:20Our job is to educate and organize and give people, working class people, an agenda, which

01:30understands that in the richest country in the history of the world, we can in fact provide a decent standard of living.

01:36But Senator, you know better than I that you could have a very hungry and energized base with an idea of what they want.

01:47But if they don't find leadership or find the person that can articulate that, it doesn't change.

01:55Well, you're asking a complicated issue.

01:57I think strong grassroots movements will bring forth the appropriate leadership.

02:03I think when people give up on the political process, when you have a handful of billionaires deciding who will run, which is the case right now.

02:10Are there people out there who will, that you feel comfortable and confident, will take up the Bernie Sanders mantle and run in 2028?

02:17That's not the Bernie Sanders.

02:18Will they stand up and fight for economic and social and racial justice?

02:22Absolutely.

02:23Some great young people.

02:24Want to name names?

02:25No.
