00:00last year with a hamstring
00:01injury but when healthy a very
00:03good player brought down by
00:04Joey Blunt who's a solid special
00:07teams performer for Arizona.
00:12The Cardinals are as deep as
00:14they've been in a long time on
00:16that defensive line whether
00:17they keep six seven obviously
00:19depends on other positions.
00:22The locker call on Nichols and
00:26Justin Jones to be healthy
00:27and neither player was healthy
00:30last year after both guys were
00:31very durable in their careers.
00:34Cardinals signed both last
00:35season as free agents straight
00:38ahead goes Mitchell picks up
00:41about six and both the big
00:43solid players I got a chance to
00:44play with the law my last year
00:47in the NFL his first year with
00:48the Chicago Bears he's another
00:50guy who loves to learn from
00:52veterans and so having him now
00:54being a veteran player playing
00:56he's going to improve his game
00:57well Dalvin Tomlinson 31 years
01:00old will be the starting nose
01:01tackle free agent signing from
01:04the Browns got it's been around
01:05very good player obviously
01:07Darius Robinson players Campbell
01:09and Walter Nolan but then you
01:10got some spots at four or five
01:13guys are competing for first
01:14down catch and Zappi finds
01:17Wiley and Davis Gaither in his
01:21first year with the Cardinals
01:22makes the tackle there is a flag
01:23down to Tomlinson is is a space
01:27eater that's the best way to put
01:29it be 6 3 325 turn on the tape
01:31he's a typical nose but he just
01:34eats up space hard to move back
01:35he gets great pressure could be
01:37a huge addition for this defense
01:39LJ Collier another guy fighting
01:42for a roster spot and eligible
01:44player downfield office number
01:4661 five yard penalty second down
01:49and nine back at the thirty one
01:55college your point and up to the
01:57defensive line that gets deeper
01:59please respect the clock to seven
02:01minutes and fifteen seconds as the
02:04road gets deeper you start looking
02:06to your left and to your right
02:07and saying can all of us make the
02:08roster that's some of those special
02:09teams opportunities come in
02:10harder for defensive linemen
02:11that's what it takes you think
02:12about
02:14exactly quarterback for Kansas
02:15city second year out of Western
02:16Kentucky
02:18back to throw
02:20pressure off the edge
02:21and the pass incomplete
02:22yeah the ground that is
02:23is
02:24Jordan Burge
02:25he's
02:26he's
02:27he's
02:28he's
02:29he's
02:30he's
02:31he's
02:32he's
02:33he's
02:34he's
02:35he's
02:36he's
02:37He has I got to give him a little
02:38bit of credit that was a screen
02:40and so the offense is letting
02:43guys eat his tackle quicker than
02:45most so I'll give a little bit
02:47of credit let's take rid of it
02:49on that specific way because it
02:51was a screen pass.
02:52Cardinals though really wanted to
02:54address that room the outside
02:57linebacker room in the offseason
03:00they did for free eight.
03:07So now he gets the credit.
03:28That's hard not only and he's
03:30going to be a flag of the league
03:31touching down here he's going to
03:33come back but he got chipped on
03:36he almost got held on that play
03:38and still made a play.
03:39Real contact defense number 29
03:42five yard penalty with an automatic
03:44first down.
03:45I still hate that call if you can
03:47have a legal contact especially
03:49in that situation where the
03:51quarterback's scrambling around
03:53and you get bailed out because
03:54it's an automatic first down.
03:55That's rookie Denzel Burke out of
03:57Ohio State who's been very good
03:59in camp but penalized here and
04:02it cost the card.
04:03You hate that call think about
04:05Jordan Burch take that call he just
04:07got a sack LJ Collier was in on
04:08that sack.
04:09They did all that work just to get
04:11penalized.
04:12That's what we talk about.
04:13The front end and the back end.
04:15Russian coverage have to work
04:16together in the good and the bad.
04:22Mitchell looking for running
04:23room.
04:24And it's not there.
04:25Cardinal did a good job up front
04:26at the top.
04:27P.J.
04:28Mustapha another team to watch here
04:30in preseason on that defensive
04:32line.
04:33We talked a lot about passing
04:34records as positive.
04:35You have to be able to stop the
04:36run as well.
04:37So Musselford did a great job on
04:38the inside.
04:39Jordan Burch would rush the
04:40quarterback on that one but he
04:41did a great job setting the
04:42edge as well.
04:43You cannot just be one-dimensional.
04:44if you want to have multiple
04:45reps on this team.
05:05Cardinals rush for Zappi chased by
05:08Thomas and his pass under
05:10throw and intercepted.
05:11It's Darren Hall with the
05:13pitch.
05:14The fourth year crowd takes the
05:16ball away.
05:17And the Cardinals in their 43-yard
05:19line.
05:32Talk about Russian coverage
05:34working together.
05:35Xavier Thomas did a great job
05:37affecting the quarterback.
05:38And there you see Hall not
05:40only great in coverage but
05:42it's great getting depth in
05:44football.
05:45If you're a defender, if you're
05:46a linebacker, you're a
05:47Nicholas Porter playing zone.
05:48Depth is your friend.
05:50So the rush is going to do a
05:51great job making the
05:52quarterback escape.
05:53You see the inside move.
05:55Great job by Xavier Thomas
05:56pulling up the running back.
05:57Bailey Zappi is fading away.
05:58But look at the depth.
05:59He's about 20 yards downfield.
06:01Unbelievable play.
06:02Listening to your coaches and
06:03getting depth.
06:04When there's nobody in front.
06:05Toby Brissett.
06:06Back in the quarterback hands
06:07it off for Benson who gets
06:08spilled at the 48 yard line.
06:09With that turnover some
06:10Burroughs has given away a free
06:11bean and cheese burrow.
06:12Any other value locations
06:13tomorrow only with a purchase
06:14of a pony up straight.
06:15Some Burroughs family owned
06:16since 1986.
06:17Darren Hall trying to make.
06:18The roster is that fifth.
06:20Safety.
06:21Slash special team.
06:22Obviously Jalen Thompson
06:23Buddha Baker.
06:24Daydream Taylor.
06:25Denverson have the.
06:26First three spots locked up.
06:27Joey Blunt.
06:28He's been around.
06:29Keep the proper seven round
06:30pick out of Nevada.
06:31He's looked really good.
06:32Darren Hall also competing for
06:33the first three spots.
06:34Joey Blunt.
06:35He's been around.
06:36Keep the proper seven round
06:37pick out of Nevada.
06:38He's looked really good.
06:39Darren Hall also competing
06:40for the first three spots.
06:41Speaker 1.
06:42Speaker 2.
06:43Speaker 2.
06:44Dillon Hall also competing for.
06:45Positions.
06:46On the fifty three.
06:47Benson.
06:48Nice moves in the hole.
06:49Flags down.
06:50And so.
06:51In.
06:52On.
06:53In.
06:54In.
06:55In.
06:56In.
06:57In.
06:58In.
06:59In.
07:00In.
07:01In.
07:02In.
07:03In.
07:04In.
07:05In.
07:06In.
07:07In.
07:08In.
07:09In.
07:10In.
07:11In.
07:12In.
07:13In.
07:14In.
07:15In.
07:16In.
07:17In.
07:38In.
07:39In.
07:40In.
07:41In.
07:42The first piece is, if I'm a veteran, how do I help this guy make the team?
07:50Talk to guys like Calais Campbell and Buda Baker.
07:53They're trying to help the young guys make the team.
07:55The second piece is, I can only do so much.
07:57You're the guy that has to make the play.
07:59It's a production-based business.
08:01And so, Darren Hall, you're fighting for a roster spot.
08:03Even if you don't make the spot on this team, interceptors like that, 31 other teams are watching.
08:07So you might be fighting for a spot for a different team.
08:10So, veterans try to help, but the rookies and younger players have to be the ones who make the plays themselves.
08:19Benson again and immediately on the handoff.
08:23There's a defender right in the space, but he's able to actually get positive yardage.
08:27Nice run that time.
08:28Take a look at our fight for 53, sponsored by Desert Financial Medical.
08:37Talk about some of those guys fighting for spots.
08:39That's the groups to watch.
08:40O-line, O-L-B, and D-line.
08:43We've seen some of the offensive linemen that shuffle, but outside linebackers, Xavier Thomas, Jordan Burch, that's what you're watching.
08:49Defensive line as well.
08:50There's so much depth there.
08:52So, you talk about fighting for a spot.
08:54These are the opportunities for something good on tape.
08:56There's a screen to Dean Ricardo.
08:57He's got one look.
08:59Inside the 30.
09:00Dean Ricardo still going.
09:02Inside the 10.
09:03It's a touchdown for Dean Ricardo.
09:04Great one after the catch by the third-year pro on a TCU.
09:26That screen game is looking mighty pretty.
09:31Drew Pets, Petsig love drawing it up.
09:33Petsig does a great job with his eyes.
09:35And Amari DiMarcado does the rest.
09:37He sets up the safety, sets up the defender, purls through another one, and finds it.
09:42Did the same thing in college back at TCU.
09:44He's great in space.
09:46And now he's making a name for himself in the NFL.
09:48Here, two in the National Championship game.
09:52Had a big play a couple years ago when he was bit the Hornfrogs.
09:56Extra point makes it 14 to 10.
09:59He showed position groups, one that you can't talk about obviously all from the ones.
10:03But running back again is a big one, and that will certainly help Dean Ricardo's pause,
10:08who was the third down back a lot last year, but also return kicks.
10:12SRP touchdowns for teachers give teacher grants with every cardinal's touchdown.
10:15Learn more at srpnet.com slash team.
10:18And how do you learn more time not just to be a third down back in your plays like that?
10:21If Arden DiMarcado came to the game a lot last year on third down.
10:24Why?
10:25He's great in pass protection, and he's great in catching the ball out of the backfield.
10:29When you start making explosive plays, you start giving your offense and your head coaches
10:33a reason to put you in the football game.
10:36That's how you earn more playing time.
10:37Look at his eyes, setting up the defender, using his feet, using his hands.
10:41But this started because he earned an opportunity.
10:44Third down, he did something little very well.
10:46What is he?
10:47What is he?
10:47He blocked him up.
10:48Okay, put him in the game.
10:49He captured him up.
10:49Okay, now you do the extra thing.
10:51You do the basic thing well, but do the extra even better to earn more off the top of the team.
10:58So it's now 14 to 10 after the touchdown for DiMarcado.
11:02He had a touchdown rushing last year.
11:05Also had 16 catches.
11:07Now you see him on special teams right here.
11:13We call him the L2 position.
11:14Let's see if he can go make a tackle.
11:15And this one taken on the goal line.
11:27Now Williams and a nice tackle.
11:30Joey Blunt, there's a black down.
11:34The Blunt is a very good special teams player.
11:38He's been that for a few years now.
11:41We've already seen that twice.
11:55You see that a lot early in preseason games.
11:57Have been doing a lot of live special teams in practice.
12:00Santan Ford scoring drive presented by Santan Ford and Gilbert.
12:03Santan Ford and the Cardinals.
12:05We are Santan Ford.
12:06Santan Ford, officially 43-yard touchdown catch for Imari DiMarcado.
12:14Talk about the why and why you're seeing some of these penalties.
12:17The reason why is that, yes, you don't get a lot of live reps,
12:21but also you're swinging against a different look that you haven't seen.
12:23And so you're a little bit nervous.
12:25You're thinking, okay, I missed my block.
12:26Can I go help someone else on their block?
12:28So that's when those penalties, the same penalties kill returns.
12:31That's what you're seeing early on.
12:33And it's not just the fact that you're not going to live,
12:34it's the fact that you haven't seen these reps from a different team.
12:38A little juice in the stadium right now after that touchdown by DiMarcado.
12:42And this group stepped up defensively on the last possession
12:46with the Darren Hall interception.
12:48Let's see if they can get the ball back for the offense again.
12:523-12 to go in the half.
12:53And even if you don't get an interception pass,
12:56one great thing the defense can do is keep them back up.
12:58We call this the black zone.
12:59Back up.
12:59We're going to just go to the enforcement spot.
13:01First half.
13:03So the crowd gets loud.
13:04You're closer to the end zone.
13:05If you can keep them backed up, all of a sudden you force them to punt.
13:08You hit the ball to 50-yard line.
13:09Now 10 yards, you're in field goal range.
13:11It's a very critical drive for the Cardinals defense.
13:16Cardinals obviously play their division foes here.
13:20Also at Carolina, Tennessee, Green Bay coming to town.
13:25In regular season action movement by just about everybody except the center.
13:37Chiefs will march back five yards.
13:39Offense number 72.
13:43Five-yard penalty.
13:44Go first down.
13:44Kansas City will operate now from inside its eight-yard line.
13:56Andy Reid, one of the best coaches in football.
14:01With 27 as a head coach.
14:02Five Super Bowls the last six years.
14:05With three victories.
14:0515-2 record for KC last year.
14:11Hitchell.
14:13This is on about the 11-yard line.
14:16Mike Walker is trying to make the teams a backup line line.
14:19He's going to take on the tackle.
14:21You think when Andy Reid was let go by Philadelphia, a lot of Eagle fans were happy.
14:26I wonder, even though they won the Super Bowl last year, he's got two more.
14:31I'm going to have to be in.
14:31I grew up kind of rooting for the Eagles a little bit.
14:34I know I grew up in Dallas.
14:35I love Andy Reid.
14:36I'm like, why are y'all getting rid of him?
14:37And no, I'm not a Chiefs fan, but I am an Andy Reid fan.
14:40He's a phenomenal football fan.
14:42Certainly one of the best to do it.
14:46He almost throws another pick to Darren Hall.
14:49He jumped the rock.
14:50Could not secure that.
14:51Well, hope it is caused by at least getting to the football.
14:57The interception with Valdivian Moore.
15:00And he's mad at himself because he has great eyes.
15:02He undercuts the route.
15:04Scott Morris, the intended receiver.
15:05Some great eyes in his own coverage, undercutting the route.
15:09The last piece that makes him special is intercepting the football.
15:13Especially when we're talking about black zone, intercepting out of those automatic points.
15:16We'll get it next time.
15:17Now, third down and 12.
15:19Cardinal defense trying to get off the field.
15:21A rough ball to Southie climbs the pocket on Rhodes.
15:26And it's pulled in.
15:27And now they say it's the play.
15:31Listen to that guy that you had a great advantage on the touchdown.
15:35At the first quarter.
15:37He's done for the ball and could not bring it in.
15:39So it's more down.
15:42That was great.
15:42The ball placed in Marvain exactly.
15:44He's a great in at a college.
15:46Yeah, it looks like he stands around to the ball.
15:52It looks like a catch to me.
15:53And if it is a catch, it's going to be a first down at this.
15:58It's over 10.
15:59Andy Reid just threw the challenge.
16:00Right.
16:00We're outside of 10 minutes.
16:02So it has to be a coach's challenge.
16:04Looked like a catch.
16:04From that angle.
16:11It did.
16:12You talk about the ball placement by Zappi.
16:15But he did a better job by Brownlee coming back to the.
16:17The previous play of incomplete pass is being challenged by Kansas City.
16:21And will be reviewed.
16:22And with that red flag.
16:29Yeah, we saw Brownlee make a great play on the touchdowns.
16:31So he's certainly capable of making that catch even on the throw that's behind him.
16:35He juggled it, but it looked like his arms were under the ball.
16:39And had possession.
16:46It does.
16:47Looks like he has control.
16:49Demandji, we're seeing one angle.
16:51The referees, they have different angles that they see that we can't see.
16:55But from our vantage point, pass, you said it even beforehand.
16:58It looked like he had control of that football.
17:09Let's go places and take a look at our out-of-town score, sponsored by York Valley Toyota dealers.
17:16Giants with Jackson Dart.
17:18Beating the Bills.
17:19Minnesota over Houston.
17:22The Rams expected to be a factor.
17:24The NFC West over the Cowboys.
17:32Jackson Dart had some.
17:33People were excited about Jackson Dart.
17:34Him and Shadour had some pretty solid showings.
17:37Hats for keys in their first opportunity in the NFL.
17:39Sanders started for Cleveland last night.
17:42After we do, the ruling on the field stands.
17:45Incomplete pass.
17:46Kansas City is charged with timeout.
17:48The language of stands, the assumption is they did not have enough video evidence to overturn the ruling on the field.
17:55Because the ball can touch the ground if you have possession and you've got control.
18:00It's control.
18:01And maybe that's what they didn't see to your point back.
18:03Maybe they didn't see the control.
18:05From our advantage point, I thought he had control.
18:07But he needs to be inconclusive.
18:09And it wasn't.
18:10So, the Cardinals will have an opportunity now with the two-minute warning and three timeouts.
18:15And assuming they get good field position where the Chiefs backed up in their own end zone for the punt.
18:22Arisa, about three yards deep to boot it away.
18:27And this is a huge punt.
18:29DJ Dallas racing back with the master puck at the 21-yard line.
18:34He was able to pick it up there before the big hit.
18:36He kept the ball, but got laid out that time.
18:40By Noah Williams.
18:41A 67-yard punt.
18:43And the Cardinals will start around their 20.
18:47That was special.
18:49Like that punt by Matt Arisa, that was different.
18:51I mean, usually you're backed up and you're on it.
18:53So, he gets the ball around the 50-yard line, maybe 45.
18:55That ball was about 65, 70 yards, 80.
18:59I mean, it was, look, let's keep on going back.
19:01And then Noah Williams, the rookie out of Cal, who was phenomenal last year when he came to intercepting the football.
19:06He's trying to earn a roster spot by making tackles like that on special teams.
19:09So, now the Cardinals have to start from their 21.
19:13They do have plenty of time to run their two-minute offense with essentially four stoppages at a clock.
19:20They're set in trouble.
19:21Steps up and throws complete to Higgins.
19:24Out to the 32-yard line.
19:26First down for Arizona.
19:27That will take us to the two-minute warning.
19:31We'll come back.
19:31The Cardinals will have the ball in their 32.
19:34Three timeouts.
19:35Look at it.
19:35They're the lead.
19:36Two-minute warning.
19:37Timeout.
19:37Timeout.
19:44Near Valley Chevy Dealers.
19:46One of the best safeties in football.
19:48Budabaker.
19:49Ninth season with the Cardinals out of Washington.
19:52Seven Pro Bowls.
19:54Second team All-Pro a year ago.
19:57And one of the leaders on this defense.
20:00Six straight Pro Bowls.
20:02Seven overall.
20:03Each year the last six years.
20:05And his leadership is what stands out to me the most.
20:08Yes, I love his play.
20:09Turn on the field.
20:10He's got a nose for the football.
20:12He's fearless.
20:13But just talking to him before this game, he talked about how much he wants to pour into the younger guys.
20:18You don't hear that often from veterans.
20:20He's special.
20:22Meanwhile, the offense on the field with two minutes to work with.
20:25Trailing by four.
20:27The second team offense on the field.
20:29Jacoby Brissette throws complete to Weaver.
20:31He's got really good speed.
20:32And he gets a first down.
20:34Out to the 44-yard line.
20:3612 more yards.
20:37Plenty of time here.
20:38The Cardinals have all their time off.
20:39But you love to see the operation right now.
20:42So Xavier Brissette gets the ball.
20:44Gets the referee.
20:45They're taking their time a little bit.
20:47But this is that these are opportunities to practice your two-minute operation.
20:50We're talking about backed up.
20:51Black zone.
20:52Talk about red zone.
20:53Now it's a two-minute different situational football period.
20:56We get a chance to attempt.
21:03And off to Di Mercado.
21:09First time out after the short game.
21:11Block stop at 119 left.
21:13Well, there's an injured Chiefs.
21:14I'm not sure if the Cardinals are going to charge a timeout here or not.
21:17Because of the Kansas City injury.
21:21It's Deion Bush.
21:22Time out.
21:24Kansas City due to the injury.
21:26So Kansas City.
21:27Turn out.
21:29Veteran Bush.
21:30Year 9.
21:32Out of the U.
21:33Miami.
21:34I think this.
21:34We played together in Chicago.
21:36But he's a.
21:36Talk about leadership.
21:38Yes.
21:38Correct.
21:38Second.
21:39Yes.
21:40But he's another guy.
21:41Players on the Kansas City Chiefs team look to.
21:43That's why you see some of his guys.
21:44Mike Edwards.
21:45Some of those guys around him.
21:46He's a.
21:47He's a locker room guy.
21:48He's a blue guy.
21:49And he's been that way since he was a rookie.
21:51Even Patrick Mahomes coming out.
21:55So that.
21:56Your point tells you.
21:58Respect they have.
21:59The line.
21:59The room for Bush.
22:01Sometimes he gets a little.
22:02Focused on.
22:04The star players.
22:05But.
22:06You don't always see the guys who keep the team together.
22:08Now.
22:09Seeing the card coming out.
22:10Not.
22:11A good time.
22:15Step away.
22:17Back to State Farm Stadium in a moment.
22:19With the Chiefs up.
22:25There you see.
22:26Patrick Mahomes.
22:27Along with the rest of the Chiefs is showing their.
22:30Love for their teammate.
22:31And how important Deion Bush is to the locker room.
22:34And his leadership.
22:35We're being told a non-contact injury.
22:37So.
22:39Obviously not good.
22:40Based on his reaction.
22:41His teammates.
22:43Reaction.
22:43As he's carted off.
22:44And he's.
22:45Dave.
22:46And perhaps more.
22:47He's done.
22:48We talk a lot about.
22:49Preseason and the games.
22:51Mattering or not mattering.
22:52I mean.
22:52If it matters.
22:53For a guy like Deion Bush.
22:55Year nine.
22:55And once he.
22:57Trying to earn a spot as a starter.
22:59Again.
22:59He started.
22:59More in the past.
23:01We don't know.
23:02And I'm not going to speculate.
23:04But.
23:05You have to play every play like it's your last.
23:08Because you never know when it will be.
23:10So 119 left.
23:13The Cardinals have three timeouts.
23:14They trail by four.
23:16Jacoby Brissett operating the offense.
23:18And his Cardinal debut.
23:20Tenth NFL season.
23:22Brissett takes a shot downfield.
23:24To Weaver.
23:25And.
23:25A lot of contact.
23:26And there comes the block.
23:28Weaver got tangled up with.
23:30Johnson.
23:32And.
23:32That will give the Cardinals.
23:34Good field position inside the Kansas City 30.
23:37That's interference.
23:41Defense number 13.
23:44First down to spot the foul.
23:47And.
23:47Is he Johnson.
23:48The guilty man.
23:48Let's check in with Danny.
23:50Rookie Hayden Connor getting some snaps at center today.
23:53Not position.
23:54He had a lot of exposure with.
23:55In college with the offensive line coach Justin Price says Connor can already mentally handle playing one handed for half the snap.
24:02Price says Connor has grasped on pretty well.
24:04And has gotten some good exposure with these live reps here tonight.
24:07And Danny.
24:08Important if you can play two positions.
24:09Assuming the Cardinals keep seven eight offensive line.
24:16After the penalty first down on the 27 the Cardinals will keep it on the ground.
24:20But no running room that time as Connor was out there in space.
24:25Up some running room for demons.
24:26Pato.
24:27But it was not to be.
24:28That's a great point.
24:29Danny.
24:30Take time for the Texas.
24:31He played guard for the majority of his career.
24:34But he said he's practiced snaps every day at practice.
24:37So that was getting a chance not just to practice but to play center.
24:40He saw Mary 6-8.
24:423-15.
24:42But he's pulling.
24:44He's a big body.
24:45But he's got a good key.
24:47Cardinals keeping all their time.
24:49That's 40 seconds to go.
24:50Second down and 10.
24:54For a sec.
24:56Fitchkey Mercado over the middle.
24:58And it's another first down.
24:59He's got a good time.
25:01For a timeout.
25:02For 31 seconds left.
25:05Mercado very sure.
25:07And we also saw him earlier what he could do with the ball in his hands.
25:09There he goes.
25:10On the catch and run for a touchdown.
25:12He's got a second play.
25:13Jonathan Gannon.
25:15Year 3.
25:16As the head coach for the Cardinals.
25:18Very good last year with clock management, situational football.
25:24We're talking with Monty Austin Ford for the third of the year.
25:26We're very happy with the culture and the foundation that's been laid here by Gannon and his staff.
25:32The culture's a great word.
25:33And the majority of the players on this Arizona Cardinals football team stayed around the facility.
25:38The soft seeds.
25:39They didn't go and train other places.
25:41They wanted to be inside the building.
25:43Most times you see guys go and train in Texas or Florida.
25:46They stayed with the facility and that means culture is building from the inside out.
25:52They're set.
25:54Where are you going to cover?
25:55Takes off.
25:57Inside the 10.
25:58And close to the first down as he steps out of bounds with 23 seconds to go.
26:03It's going to be first and goal for the Cardinals.
26:05Talk about that new technology spot of the ball.
26:07This is where you may get a chance to see it.
26:10So that technology may or may not come out yet.
26:12But it's not based off of a chip being in the football.
26:15Based off of where the referee spots the ball.
26:18Then they have cameras around that will essentially take away with the chain game.
26:22They can run the ball again here on the second down and go with them on.
26:50If you don't get in the rest of the season, it's a good time to call that last time off.
26:55Pass, I'm asking you a question.
26:56Put yourself in the analyst role.
26:58It's you have the one-yard line, second and one.
27:00Do you run the ball now?
27:02Do you pass the ball?
27:03You've covered the game for a long time.
27:04What do you do?
27:05Well, I'd love to get Imari Di Mercado a second touchdown.
27:08I think that's why they ran it to him there.
27:10So I wouldn't be surprised.
27:11Just hand it off to him here.
27:12You've got plenty of time.
27:13You don't get in all time out.
27:15And then you've got plenty of time for your third down.
27:18Agree or disagree?
27:19I agree, but for different reasons.
27:21I want to see the big bad uglies on the inside be physical.
27:26Instead of a subtle throw.
27:30Fires back at the end zone.
27:32And a flag down and it was caught by Higgins.
27:34But they're going to say he was out of balance.
27:37It's an incomplete pass.
27:39Mike Edwards and Cutteridge again.
27:41Multiple flags down.
27:42It's going to be on Kansas City, so it's going to be an automatic first down.
27:52But no touchdown.
27:53It's going to be an automatic first down.
28:06Surely now they'll give it to De'Veon Carter.
28:12Baby, right?
28:13Because that was like, yeah, it was a penalty on the defense, but you lost six seconds.
28:18The time is valuable to the red zone.
28:20You have a timeout.
28:21Maybe hand it off and call it and pass it.
28:24But those six seconds could prove costly if they don't get in the end zone on this play.
28:29They put the set and shotgun on first down and goal from the one.
28:34De'Veon will throw.
28:36Back shoulder fade.
28:37And it's knocked away.
28:38Incomplete.
28:40Intended for Palmer.
28:42And that was Williams.
28:43We got the pass breakup.
28:48De'John Palmer, sixth round draft pick last year out of UAB, the intended target.
28:53But Noel Williams was right there.
28:55I know Williams is a stud.
28:56I've covered him a lot in Calvary.
28:59Now last year, he is a playmaker.
29:03Did he get his jersey, though?
29:04He was back to the ball.
29:06Did he get his jersey before the ball arrived?
29:08Yeah, I don't think it was enough to cause a penalty.
29:11It was a great job.
29:12People call it face guarding, face guarding the receiver.
29:15And then as soon as that ball see the color of the receiver's hands up, you got the ball out.
29:20Great job.
29:21Christian Jones backed up the tackle and shaken up on that play.
29:25All right, no.
29:25CJ, come here, man.
29:26Seven seconds left.
29:29Second ago, low snap.
29:31Recep fires into the end zone.
29:32And it's pulled in for a touchdown by Weaver.
29:38That was a pull-up by Recep.
29:41Right to Weaver.
29:43Touchdown!
29:44Yeah!
29:45Talk about Shadouard Sanders shining.
29:48Well, another Colorado Buffalo showing his stuff.
29:53Xavier Watts.
29:54Xavier Weaver, year two out of Colorado.
29:56Great job with that slip route.
29:58Better job by Jacoby Brissette fitting that ball in there.
30:01Unbelievable chemistry between the year two receiver and the year 10 QB.
30:06Weaver definitely in the mix for
30:08a roster spot extra point gives
30:13the Cardinals a three point
30:15lead with more seconds to go in
30:16the half.
30:17Obviously we've got Marvin
30:19Harrison Jr.
30:20Michael Wilson.
30:21Zane Jones and Greg George.
30:23Those are your top four in
30:24receiver.
30:25One guy that's not playing
30:26today.
30:27The Cardinals are very high up.
30:28Sidney Pehoko who can play
30:29special teams as well.
30:30And Weaver in the mix also.
30:31But I love it.
30:32You go outside and you stand
30:33in.
30:34Beautiful round by Weaver.
30:35And he did make the 53 man
30:36roster last year as an
30:37undrafted free agent.
30:38Very rare for undrafted free
30:39agents to make a team.
30:40He made the initial 53 last
30:41year.
30:426-1, 185 out of Colorado.
30:43With plays like that it helps
30:44you to make a team again.
30:45Why?
30:46Because if you get cut other
30:47teams are watching other
30:48teams like Kansas City and
30:49say, man, maybe I want this
30:50guy on my team.
30:51He's about to cut him.
30:52The danger in releasing any
30:53player is they have to clear
30:54waivers.
30:55It's not going to be the
30:56team.
30:57But I love it.
30:58You go outside and you
30:59stem in.
31:00Beautiful round by Weaver.
31:01And he did make the 53 man
31:02roster last year as an undrafted
31:03waivers.
31:04It's not as simple as you cut
31:05a guy because you want him
31:06on the practice squad.
31:07He has to clear waivers.
31:08Every other team has a shot
31:09to sign him to their active
31:10roster after a player is
31:12released.
31:13If the player clears waivers,
31:15then you can get him on the
31:16practice squad.
31:17But there's a good chance
31:18Weaver won't have to worry
31:19about that.
31:20The way he's played the last
31:21year plus.

31:33And this is smoke through the
31:38end zone.
31:39So this is a touchback and
31:41will come out to the 35.
31:43That is the new part of the
31:45dynamic kick rule on
31:47touchbacks in the end zone.
31:48They used to come out to 30
31:50and now it'll be the 35.
31:52Santan Ford scoring drive
31:53presented by Santan Ford and
31:54Gilbert.
31:55Santan Ford in the Arizona
31:56Cardinals.
31:57We are Santan Ford.
31:58Hopey for set engineering a
31:59nine play seventy nine yard
32:00drive and the one yard
32:01touchdown strike to Weaver.
32:04Chiefs will take a knee and
32:05end the half.
32:06It did not start well for the
32:07Cardinals with the turnover on
32:08the opening kickoff but.
32:09They bounce back and lead by
32:10three and here's Danny with
32:11John.
32:12Again.
32:13Coach.
32:14Coach you saw your starters
32:15from Porter.
32:16What is biggest takeaways from
32:17that.

32:26Speaker 2.
32:28Speaker 2.
32:29Yeah, I like their execution.
32:30I like our mode of play.
32:32We obviously some things to
32:33clean up.
32:34You need some more points there
32:35with two long drives.
32:36I thought the defense did a
32:37good job after we got the
32:38short field they scored but
32:39then we settled in and played
32:40pretty good.
32:41Two touchdowns by this second
32:42team on fast.
32:43What are they doing well.
32:44I think the offensive.
32:45I think off it's a last
32:46control in the line of
32:47scrimmage.
32:48You gotta short the pass
32:49protection but we're running
32:50it pretty good and there's
32:51some good pitches and
32:53catches right there.
32:54Thanks, Coach.
32:55Thanks.
32:56The Cardinals lead at 17-14 in their preseason opener,
33:01getting ready for the regular year,
33:03which starts on September 7th in New Orleans.
33:08Halftime in Arizona.
33:09Three-point lead for the Cardinals.
33:19Take a look at our new faces sponsored by Buick GMC
33:22with the Cardinals up by three.
33:24He's not playing tonight, but Calais Campbell,
33:27who obviously started his career with the Cardinals from 2008 to 2016,
33:32has a few stops, still playing great football,
33:34back with Arizona in year 18.
33:37And with more on him, here's Dan.
33:39As Calais Campbell goes into year 18,
33:42he says it was a humbling experience to come to the acceptance.
33:45He's got roughly 30 to 35 quality snaps of game in him.
33:49He says it took a lot of growth to be as self-aware and honest with himself as he is on that.
33:54Calais Campbell says he doesn't want to be out there if he can't be a difference maker,
33:57but let it be known.
33:59If it's a big-time moment and he needs to push through a few extra snaps,
34:02he is absolutely capable of doing that.
34:05Your Sideline Report, sponsored by Fries Foodstores.
34:08Dave?
34:09And Danny, Monty Asenport, the GM, has made it very clear.
34:11Yes, this is a nice story, but that's not why we signed Calais Campbell.
34:15He can still play and help us win.
34:17They want him to make plays on the field.
34:18And Danny, you made a great point.
34:19The 30 to 35 plays.
34:21Calais wants to play more.
34:22He wants to be an impact player.
34:24He's top three all-time in NFL history and tactics for loss.
34:28He's chasing to try to go to number two.
34:30He has 110 career sacks.
34:32There's so many records that he wants to make,
34:35but the biggest thing he wants to do is go to a team that can compete.
34:38And that's why I came here.
34:39Competing for a championship and also mentoring some of the young guys.
34:43Those are two things he said to me yesterday, reasons why he came here.
34:47And talking with people in the front office, coaches, they said,
34:51we've heard about Calais Campbell, his leadership, the type of person he is.
34:55Ronnie Asenport said, I have heard from so many people how good he is in the locker room.
35:00He exceeded our expectations in terms of what he has done already in helping build this culture
35:07that Asenport and Company started a couple of years ago.
35:10He's even helping the coaches.
35:11I was talking to the new defensive line coach, Coach DeLata Menor,
35:15and he was talking about how, man, Calais is giving him coaching tips.
35:19Coach Devo was 27.
35:20Calais is 38.
35:21Calais sat in the meeting rooms on the first day of OTAs and just took notes
35:27and gave Coach Devo tips on things he could do better as well.
35:31So he's helping the players and also the coaches.
35:33Line drive kick inside the target zone between the goal line of the 20s.
35:40And Royals returns it out near the 34-yard line.
35:44You've played with Calais Campbell.
35:46You got here in 2010.
35:48Calais was in his third season.
35:50What kind of an impact did he have on you as you look back?
35:53Tremendous.
35:54Calais is...hero is a big word.
35:58But when you look at the landscape of the NFL, many players look up to him.
36:02Not just on this team, but on teams around the landscape of football.
36:06He was on the all-decade team in the 2010s.
36:09But he also cares about his teammates and cares about the longevity of the league.
36:15So when I think about him, for me, he helped me grow.
36:17I had seven sacks in my rookie year.
36:18A lot of them was because of him.
36:19They were double-teaming Calais.
36:20So I got a lot of one-on-ones.
36:22And he taught me how to have longevity in the NFL.
36:25So when I think about Calais, I think about a legacy that he's leaving,
36:29that he wants to cement here in Arizona.
36:31I mean, I'm so old.
36:32Obviously, I did his games when he was here the first time.
36:35But I did his games in college.
36:36And obviously, he towered over everybody.
36:38What was so interesting was there were a lot of people that questioned his motor coming out of Miami.
36:44And that's why he went in the second round as opposed to the first round.
36:47And it was clear.
36:48Maybe that motivated him as Zappi completes the pass out in space for a short game.
36:52Maybe that motivated Campbell.
36:54But it was obvious from the first practice of training camp that motor was nonstop.
37:00You don't play 18 years in the NFL in any position, especially defensive line.
37:05If you do not have a motor, he certainly proved those people wrong.
37:07He's still driven.
37:08I talked to Clinch yesterday.
37:09And you could see the fire in his eyes.
37:11There was no, oh, this is my last leg.
37:13And I'm just trying to make it mine.
37:15He wants to dominate.
37:17And if you actually talk to Clinch, you may not understand everything he says.
37:22But he wants to go out there and dominate.
37:24And that's not just him.
37:25That's helping younger guys dominate as well.
37:27Zappi's pass.
37:28Incomplete through the hands of Tanya with Walker and Cumberj.
37:3360-year player.
37:35Rondon Island.
37:36The roster is a backup linebacker and special team.
37:38We need to get to lay us on the headstand.
37:40You know, I can't do a wrong locally impersonation.
37:43But.
37:44You know, this game.
37:45Six eight.
37:46What you doing.
37:47You know.
37:48Big time.
37:49And all the family.
37:50Clear.
37:51I wasn't playing.
37:52Was on the Dolphins last year.
37:54Twenty eight and a half career sacks at State Farm Stadium.
37:58Many of those, obviously, here as an end of the party.
38:01So.
38:02We got the puck.
38:03And we're not going to change the lieutenant.
38:05Perhaps it sails over his head in the end zone for a touchback.
38:08And we'll see if it's Jacoby Reset.
38:11Quarterback.
38:12Clayton Toome.
38:13Looks like it's going to be Toome.
38:14Kyla Murray played a couple series.
38:15Then Brissette.
38:16Toome is up next.
38:18He's in football.
38:19Sponsored by BetMGM.
38:20Official sports betting partner of the Arizona Cardinals.
38:24Dave Pasch.
38:25Former Cardinal Sam Ocho.
38:26Danny Surek at State Farm Stadium.
38:27A rookie spotlight presented by Hyundai.
38:28Proud partner of the Arizona Cardinals.
38:29Will Johnson.
38:3047 goal goal goal pick.
38:31But a top ten talent.
38:32Before injuries at Michigan.
38:33The Cardinals.
38:34Think he could start for them this season.
38:35I do too.
38:36He had nine interceptions in his career in Michigan.
38:38Three for touchdown.
38:39Three for touchdowns.
38:40He only allowed two total touchdowns at his time.
38:41So we had more pick sixes than touchdowns allowed.
38:42He's a starter.
38:43He's a starter.
38:44Cardinals have lost two corners to injury.
38:45Sean Murphy bunting and start Thomas with their confidence.
38:46And they're young guys.
38:47Both a lot of the catch.
38:48Both a lot of the next.
38:49Both a lot of the solid players the number four tight end for the Cardinals and Clayton
38:50Toome getting some work now.
38:51Third one.
38:52And the Cardinals.
38:53You know the Cardinals.
38:54And the Cardinals.
38:55I think he could start for them this season.
38:56He had nine interceptions in his career in Michigan.
38:57Three for touchdowns.
38:58Three for touchdowns.
38:59Three for touchdowns.
39:00He only allowed two total touchdowns at his time.
39:01So we had more pick sixes.
39:02The touchdowns allowed.
39:03He's a starter.
39:04Cardinals have lost two corners to injury.
39:05Sean Murphy bunting and start Thomas with their confidence.
39:06And they're young guys.
39:14The third year out of.
39:15Houston.
39:16Fifth round pick.
39:17In 2023.
39:18He knows.
39:19With just two passes last year at the back of the.
39:23Kind of Murray.
39:24Where he played almost every snap.
39:25A year ago.
39:26One thing to watch out for with Clayton is his legs.
39:31I understand.
39:32You know you might look at him as a pocket pass.
39:34No.
39:35He has elite.
39:36Quickness in the pocket.
39:37Hands it off here to Carter.
39:42And Carter lunges for you.
39:43He's the yard and two.
39:44It'll be interesting to see.
39:45We've talked about a number of position battles and groupings.
39:49If the Cardinals keep two quarterbacks or three.
39:50And the danger of keeping only two is that you may not be able to get your third quarterback
40:04through waivers to try to get him on practice squad.
40:06But you have to decide as a franchise if that's a risk you're willing to take.
40:10Depending on how confident you are in your back up and.
40:13Obviously Jacoby percent is.
40:15The solid number two.
40:17It may just come down to a numbers game for Clayton two minutes all said and done as that pass is high.
40:22And picked up.
40:23At the 40 yard line.
40:25And he's out to the 40 yard line.
40:26And he's out to the 40 yard.
40:27And he's out to the 40 yard.
40:28That was a high pass.
40:29And an easy pick.
40:30And I don't put that one on Clayton two.
40:31He had pressure in the pocket right up the middle right in his face.
40:32And so when you have that.
40:33You're unable to follow through and finish your pass.
40:34You're not going to see it right here.
40:35You're going to see the interception.
40:36On the over throw.
40:37But the reason that the ball was over thrown.
40:38Is that there was not an opportunity right there in the middle of the pocket.
40:40There was not an opportunity right there in the middle of the pocket.
40:42There was not an opportunity to step up in the pocket.
40:47That's more on the offensive mind than it is on quarterback Clayton two.
40:56Third turnover of the day for the Cardinals.
40:59And the Chiefs take over near midfield.
41:04Zappy's still in the middle that it's going forward.
41:08Zappi still in a quarterback play
41:10action pass Zappi in trouble and
41:13sack back at the 40 yard line
41:15with flags out there again as we
41:18see that speed off the edge.
41:22The bars key on bars was in the
41:24backfield also see what the flag
41:26is.
41:28The Burch is wearing out some of
41:30these tackles in this preseason
41:32opener.
41:32What you have to do to make a
41:34name for yourself in a crowded
41:37outside linebacker.
41:38I understand you're drafted high
41:40but you still have to prove that
41:41you belong on the field on
41:42defense and also if you do earn a
41:45spot on special teams as well.
41:51There are fouls by both teams and
41:53they will offset.
41:54Personal foul tripping.
41:57Offense number 60.
41:59Illegal contact.
42:00Defense.
42:01Offsetting fouls.
42:03First down.
42:04Too bad on the illegal contact.
42:06Otherwise that's the second Birch
42:09sack has been wiped out.
42:13The numbers aren't what tells the
42:15story and it's clear just put on
42:16the film Birch is a problem.
42:19Hey the numbers still help though
42:20I ain't gonna lie to you have an
42:21outside linebacker you want those
42:22sacks.
42:23Passed by Zach he is caught for a
42:24first down a huge hit in the
42:26secondary.
42:27By Jamie Robinson.
42:28Holliday did well to hold on to
42:29that.
42:30After the contact.
42:31Close to a first down for
42:32Kansas City.
42:33These safeties pass are putting
42:34great stuff on tape they are
42:35showing how physical they are.
42:36Turn out the measurement.
42:37Jonathan Gannon is a former
42:38defensive back he was a star in
42:39high school had an injury in
42:40college.
42:41But this is what you want to show
42:43on tape you want to put fear in
42:44the eyes of.
42:48Slot receiver wide receivers tight
42:50ends that if they cross the
42:51middle they will get collided.
42:52Here is a situation with the ball's
42:53place where it would take a long
42:54time to change game and have to go
42:55out there.
42:56Set it up and then leave the field
42:58after now because it's being done
43:00cameras and virtual work.
43:02They can tell relatively quickly
43:04whether it's a first down and
43:05up or not or a first down and
43:06a second up.
43:07And it's the first down and
43:08run.
43:09I mean the first down and so I
43:10really don't know if you've
43:11had an injury in college but this
43:12is what you want to show on
43:13take you want to put fear in the
43:14eyes of.
43:15Slot receiver wide receivers tight
43:16ends that if they cross the
43:17middle they will get collided.
43:18Here is a situation where the
43:19balls place where it would take
43:20a long time to change game
43:21and have to go out there set it up
43:22not based on new technology.
43:24I want to brush the bubble
43:25Dave but this seems like it's
43:27taking a long time right now.
43:28There it is.
43:29Come on guys like speed it up a
43:31little bit.
43:32So nine inches short.
43:35Based on the virtual measurement
43:38and so it'll be second down.
43:40I understand that technology you
43:42know updates every 18 months
43:43but hey this virtual measurement
43:45I expect a little bit more
43:46quickness.
43:47Maybe it's preseason for them
43:48too.
43:49I just thought if it was the
43:50chain game those guys would
43:51still be walking on the field
43:52right now.
43:53Tripping off the field.
43:54There's Rashad Smith and it's
43:58the first down.
43:59Smith.
44:00Rush for over.
44:01Thirteen.
44:02The college football playoff last
44:13year.
44:14He was a really really high up
44:15line receiver at Miami that he
44:16transferred SMU.
44:17They put him at running back and he
44:18showed off his quickness and his
44:19speed but also his toughness and
44:20helped SMU have their best years.
44:33But you got a lot of points.
44:46A couple of yards but still nice
44:48play made.
44:50Downfield a couple yards, but still nice play made
44:55Play by Keon Mars shedding the blocker using his hands getting on blocks
44:59A couple plays ago it didn't count because the penalty but to your point you're putting good stuff on tape
45:04Look at him right in the middle of the field shedding the block using one hand avoiding the blocker and making the tackle
45:10So second and eight is where you want your off your offense in if your defense because you know, it's usually a passing down
45:20On second and eight, Zappi with time in the pocket now steps up
45:26And finally taken down back at the 43 yard line by L.J. Collier
45:32Who was third on the team in sacks a year ago with three and a half
45:38So that tackle by Mars led to this second and eight you might call it an obvious passing down
45:43Great job by Collier using his hands and we call it working half of a man
45:47He extended and he didn't just rush down the middle, but he lifted the arm of the offensive lineman
