00:00Have you got what it takes to make it all the way to our final question and join the 1% Club?
00:18Anyone has a chance to win, because this quiz isn't about how much you know, it's about how your brain really works.
00:22As all our questions are about logic and common sense.
00:25So who will make it to the end and answer a question only 1% of the country can get right?
00:29And we're up to £100,000.
00:33Let's play the 1% Club.
00:39Hoping to win tonight's our 100 players.
00:43Now, hands up if you genuinely think you have a chance of winning this evening.
00:50Gentleman up there, you're very young. How old are you?
00:5218.
00:5318? I think you might be the youngest person in the room.
00:55Well, what's your name? Sorry.
00:56My name's Rahel.
00:57And do you think youth is a good thing for this show?
01:00No.
01:01You don't?
01:02No.
01:02Why do you think you're going to do well?
01:04Well, it's about logic and how your mind works.
01:06Yeah.
01:06I mean, my mind's probably still developing, so it might not be that good.
01:10Whereas you think some of the people here is starting to wither away slowly.
01:14I'm not looking at anyone, but yeah.
01:15Yeah, looking at me, mate.
01:16No.
01:18Listen, what are you going to do with the money if you win?
01:19I was hoping to start my own business with that money.
01:22Doing what?
01:22I don't know.
01:25Well, you've given a lot of thought, but please come back to the bank when you've thought about
01:28the idea.
01:29Give us a cheer if you think you'll do badly.
01:31Woo!
01:33What's your name?
01:34Amelia.
01:35Hello, Amelia.
01:35Hello.
01:36Why so negative?
01:37I've always been told I'm quite thick.
01:39By who?
01:40My parents, my friends.
01:43Well, that's not acceptable, because that's my job on this show.
01:45What do you do?
01:47Well, I'm a performing arts student.
01:49Doesn't show.
01:50Yes!
01:51I'm a loser!
01:53Listen, good luck to you tonight, Amelia.
01:56Now, don't forget, you can play along at home if you want.
01:58All you have to do is download the app.
01:59Okay, before we ask our first question, here's a reminder of how the show works.
02:03We asked a cross-section of people from all over Britain a list of our unique questions.
02:08Based on their answers, we can tell statistically what percentage of the country should get each
02:12one right.
02:14Tonight, I'll be asking those exact questions to our 100 contestants, beginning with the
02:18easier one that 90% of Britain got right, and ending with the most challenging question
02:22that only 1% of the great British public answered correctly.
02:27At the start of the show, every contestant is given a £1,000 stake.
02:31If they get any question wrong, they are out of the game, and the £1,000 is transferred
02:35to the 1% prize pot.
02:39Whoever gets the third list in the quiz wins £10,000, and the chance to answer the final
02:431% question to win everything in the prize pot, and take home up to £100,000.
02:54Right, let's get on with it.
02:55It's time for our first question.
02:56So, this is one that 90% of our survey got right.
03:01Let's see how you do.
03:04The contents of this can have been shaken up.
03:07What two-word food is in the can?
03:09And your time starts now.
03:14Please let someone put alphabetti spaghetti.
03:15OK, your time is up.
03:36Let's see who's lights stay on and are still in the game, and who we've lost.
03:39OK, we have lost somebody there.
03:54Let's have a look at the answer.
03:57Tomato soup.
03:58There it is.
03:59So, we've lost one person.
04:01Ali Davis.
04:02Such a div.
04:03Oh, Ali.
04:05Ali, Ali, Ali.
04:06What happened?
04:06Oi, oi, oi.
04:07Yeah, I...
04:09I wish you'd have been that quick on the question.
04:11I know.
04:12It is.
04:13Ali, what did you put?
04:14I was so busy trying to decipher the letters, I didn't look at the two-word food.
04:20So, you just saw tomato.
04:21And I just saw tomatoes.
04:23What made you apply, Ali?
04:25Because I'm 70 in March, and I wanted to come on the show and at least do well.
04:30Have you got a list of things you...
04:31Well, you came on the show.
04:32The first part worked.
04:35Yeah.
04:36What would you have done if you'd have won the money?
04:37Er, I would have had lots of different types of vari-focal specs.
04:42So, like, Prue-leaf.
04:44So, I've got lots of different specs for different outfits.
04:46OK, yeah.
04:47Yeah.
04:48Just keep trying different pairs and see, you can see the word soup.
04:50Yeah.
04:51Sorry, that was a bit harsh.
04:52I'm sorry.
04:53I'm sorry.
04:54That was too much.
04:55That was too much.
04:55You're quite right.
04:56No, I'm wrong.
04:57I feel ashamed.
04:58Because usually, I go for somebody, have a laugh with them, then turn to the next person,
05:02do the same with them.
05:03I've forgotten.
05:04You're the only one that was out.
05:05So, um, unlucky Ali.
05:08So, there are 99 people still left in the game, and the £1,000 of everyone who got the question
05:12wrong now goes in the pot.
05:13Let's see what that's done to the total.
05:18£1,000, of course.
05:20Thank you, Ali, for the £1,000.
05:24Right, it's time for the 80% question.
05:28So, this is a question that 80% of the people we asked managed to get right.
05:31Let's see how you get on with this one.
05:33Which of these words links the following images?
05:38OK, your time starts now.
05:45I don't think it's any of them.
05:47I hope that helps.
05:47OK, your time is up.
06:05Let's see you've got it right.
06:06Wow.
06:27Wow.
06:28I thought a teenager was next door practising on his drums.
06:30So, we lost 25 people on that.
06:34Let's have a look at the answer.
06:36It's B code, dress code, green cross code, and bar code.
06:40A lot of you got that one wrong, including...
06:42Oh, no.
06:43Amelia Stevens.
06:44I mean, to be fair, you did call it.
06:46Yeah.
06:47I did have some logic to my answer, though.
06:49First of all, what did you put?
06:50I put cold.
06:51You put cold, A, OK.
06:53Because if you're wearing a dress, you might be cold.
06:55You might be.
06:56If you have a cold, you need to go to the pharmacy.
06:58That's true.
06:59And...
06:59Good luck with the third one.
07:00And fear is cold.
07:03OK.
07:04I mean, when you say some logic, the emphasis is on the word some,
07:07I think, on that one.
07:08Yeah.
07:08You did say you weren't going to do very well.
07:10I know.
07:11At least I wasn't first.
07:12At least you weren't first.
07:13You don't need to take this, madam.
07:15Sorry, Alan.
07:16Unlucky Amelia.
07:18We lost Alan Bissell.
07:19Alan, what did you put?
07:20I didn't, unfortunately.
07:21I read it.
07:22Yeah?
07:22I thought, you know what?
07:23I know the answer, but I'll read it again just to be sure.
07:25And by that time, I went to push it and I was out of time.
07:27Oh, no.
07:28So, you knew the answer, but you thought, I'll double check.
07:30Yeah.
07:30And then, boom, the time goes.
07:31Absolutely gutted.
07:32That's annoying.
07:32Gutted.
07:33I bet you are.
07:33What do you do, Alan?
07:34Electrician.
07:35Used to be a London taxi driver years ago.
07:37Oh, no.
07:39Sick and tired of people talking behind me back, so I gave up.
07:43I like that joke.
07:44You can use that one.
07:46Well, I can't now, because you've just used it.
07:48And I wasn't a taxi driver.
07:49Apart from that, it's as good as gold for me.
07:51Any hobbies?
07:52I collect tattoos.
07:54You collect them?
07:54Collect them.
07:55I'm absolutely uncovered from toe all the way up to my neck.
07:59Are you really?
07:59Under that shirt?
08:00Are you full of tattoos?
08:00I'm full of tattoos.
08:01What kind of tattoos?
08:02My latest little theme has been comedians.
08:06No way.
08:07I think we know where this is leading.
08:09Have you got me?
08:10I was going to.
08:11Stuff you.
08:13Have you not got me?
08:14Who have you got?
08:15I've got Billy Connolly, got the two Ronnies, got Mickey Flanagan.
08:20But what it is, every time I put on a bit of weight, I can squeeze another comedian in.
08:23Can we have a look?
08:24Yeah, of course.
08:25And while I have to stand up, you can see me from there, yeah?
08:27Just ease him up slowly.
08:29Go on.
08:32Oh, hello.
08:33Look at that.
08:34Can we have a little close-up of...
08:35I can't see very well, but tell me who...
08:37Oh, we've got Tommy Cooper there.
08:38That's good.
08:39Hey, that's a very good Tommy Cooper.
08:40Good two Ronnies.
08:42Lee Evans, you've got the comedy store there.
08:44Yeah.
08:44Surely there's a place for me a little bit lower.
08:48There's just a little bit of me left, I think.
08:50That's very good.
08:51Thank you for having me.
08:53Right, let's see what that's done to the prize pot.
08:58£26,000.
09:02Right, we are on to the 70% question.
09:06Let's have a look at this one.
09:07Which of these dominoes has more spots
09:12than the number of wheels on two tricycles,
09:16but fewer than the legs on two zebras?
09:20OK, your time starts now.
09:21OK, your time is up.
09:47Let's see you've got it right.
09:47Right, we lost three people.
10:03Let's have a look at the answer.
10:05It's B.
10:06There are six wheels on two tricycles
10:08and eight legs on two zebras,
10:09so it has to be B.
10:11Well done, Julie Davis.
10:12You're through.
10:13Hello, Julie.
10:14Hi.
10:14Did you see that quickly?
10:15I did.
10:16What do you do, Julie?
10:17I'm a nursery practitioner
10:20and a Zumba instructor.
10:21A Zumba instructor?
10:22Yeah.
10:22You come in really miserable
10:24and you leave really happy.
10:25Promise?
10:26Most of the time they're laughing at me
10:27trying to teach them, but...
10:28Oh, OK.
10:29I am teaching them all to do the...
10:31to do all the moves
10:33to wake me up before you go-go,
10:34cos that's my funeral song,
10:36and I want them all lined up
10:38in front of the curtain,
10:39so when the curtain's closing,
10:41they can all Zumba
10:42as I'm being burnt.
10:43You're very dark, aren't you?
10:48That's what I want.
10:49I make them do it naked.
10:51I wouldn't go that far.
10:53You haven't seen me friends.
10:56You say this on national television,
10:58and some of these friends,
11:00you're teaching to get fit.
11:01I know.
11:03Sorry, everyone.
11:04Listen, well done, Julie.
11:05You're still with us.
11:06Let's see what that's done
11:07to the prize pot.
11:07£29,000.
11:13OK, it's time for the 60% question.
11:18Right, let's take a look at this one.
11:21Sisters Holly, Alicia, Steph and Eliza
11:24all booked an appointment
11:25at their favourite hairdresser
11:26on the same day.
11:28Steph went after Alicia
11:29and Holly went first.
11:31If Eliza went after Steph,
11:33what order did the girls go in?
11:35And your 30 seconds starts now.
12:07OK, your time is up.
12:09Let's see who got it right.
12:10MUSIC PLAYS
12:11Right, we lost six people.
12:28Let's have a look at the answer.
12:29It's C, Holly, Alicia, Steph,
12:33then Eliza.
12:34Somebody who got it wrong
12:35is Aita Thomas.
12:36What did you put, Aita?
12:37I put A.
12:38I put C and then I second-guessed myself
12:40and then put A.
12:40Oh, no, you changed your answer.
12:42That's the worst, isn't it?
12:43I changed it.
12:43I know.
12:43You doubted yourself.
12:44Rookie mistake, yeah.
12:45Oh, never mind.
12:46What do you do, Aita?
12:47I'm a lawyer.
12:48Are you?
12:48Yeah.
12:49I'd better stop talking.
12:50It's probably cost to be this.
12:50Anyone waiting to see how you get on?
12:53Yeah, I've got my fiancée
12:55and my toddler at home.
12:58OK.
12:58Yeah, and my fiancée convinced me
13:00to come on the show, actually.
13:01Why?
13:02He said that...
13:03I don't mean that was so disrespectful.
13:05Why?
13:05I just meant, why?
13:06Did he encourage you and, you know...
13:08He said I would do well.
13:10OK.
13:10And also, he said that if I do go on,
13:12because he knew that I just...
13:13I'm very, like, um...
13:14I don't like being in the spotlight or anything.
13:17OK.
13:17He said he'd change the baby's nappies for a year,
13:19so I was really...
13:20He would start changing the baby's nappies
13:22if you did what?
13:23If I got to the 1% club.
13:25If you got to the 1%?
13:27Yeah.
13:27I mean, that was an offer he was probably...
13:30I mean, most people don't get to the 1%,
13:32so he was playing set.
13:33I'll tell you what he could do.
13:34He could help out with the nappies anyway
13:36and pretend it's not 1976 anymore.
13:38How about that for an idea?
13:40What does he do?
13:41Um, he's a vocal coach.
13:43Is he?
13:44Yes, yeah.
13:44OK.
13:45And he said, can you help with the nappies?
13:46And he goes, no!
13:48Unlucky, Ita.
13:50Right, let's see what that's done to the prize pot.
13:55£35,000.
13:57Right, it's time for a quick break.
13:59We've lost 35 people here already.
14:00Hope you're doing OK at home
14:01and don't forget, you can play along on the app.
14:03After the break, we'll be moving closer
14:05to see if anyone here can answer the 1% question.
14:07See you in a bit.
14:10Welcome back to the 1% Club.
14:22We started off with 100 people
14:24and now we are down to 65.
14:26The person who does best here tonight
14:27could be going home with up to £100,000.
14:30CHEERING and APPLAUSE
14:31So, welcome to everyone who is still in the game
14:35and from now on, we are going to give you the opportunity
14:37to pay for a pass to the next question.
14:39And if you do, your £1,000 will be transferred
14:42to the prize pot.
14:43However, if you get as far as the 30% question
14:45without using your pass,
14:47you'll get the chance to take your £1,000
14:49and leave the game.
14:50Right, it's time for the 50% question.
14:53Let's take a look.
14:58Which of the following words includes a number in it
15:01which is not the same as the number of letters in the word?
15:06OK, your 30 seconds starts now.
15:38OK, your time is up.
15:40Let's see who got it right.
15:56Right, we lost two people there.
15:57Let's have a look at the answer.
15:59It's C, extension.
16:00Weighted has eight letters,
16:02horniness has nine letters,
16:03extension does not have ten letters.
16:06Can't believe they made me say horniness
16:07on television.
16:09Someone who got that wrong is Paul Savage.
16:12Paul, what did you put?
16:13Oh, God.
16:14I put B, horniness.
16:16You put horniness just because it's the funniest word?
16:18No.
16:19I've seen one.
16:21You saw what?
16:22One.
16:23O-N-E.
16:24Ah, yes.
16:25I see.
16:25You saw the letters that make up one
16:27as opposed to there is the word nine
16:29in the middle of horniness.
16:30Oh, God, yeah.
16:31Oh, I'm wounded.
16:33I am wounded.
16:34Is that an excuse for getting it wrong
16:35or you mean psychologically wounded?
16:37Psychologically wounded.
16:37Psychologically.
16:38I'm wounded.
16:39I've got a sore leg.
16:40Can I go through anyway?
16:42Never mind, Paul.
16:43Right, let's see what that's done to the prize pot.
16:48£38,000.
16:49Right, it's time for the 45% question.
16:54Let's take a look at this one.
16:55Which single letter replaces all the question marks
17:00to make a word?
17:02And your 30 seconds starts now.
17:08That's what it looks like when Liam Gallagher
17:10is asked to spell Oasis.
17:11LAUGHTER
17:12OK, time is up.
17:36Let's see whose lights are still on.
17:37MUSIC PLAYS
17:39Right, we lost nobody on that.
17:51Let's have a look at the answer.
17:53It's T, tattooist.
17:55So we didn't lose anyone,
17:57and you're all thinking,
17:58aren't we a clever bunch?
17:59No, you're not.
17:5923 of you used a pass.
18:02Including Carl Haisley.
18:03Aye.
18:04You didn't have a clue on that one?
18:05I just couldn't see it, and I...
18:07Did you go through the alphabet?
18:09I got about halfway, ran out of time.
18:11That's fair enough,
18:11because, I mean, you did well to get halfway, to be fair.
18:13How did you think you were going to do
18:14before you came here today?
18:16I mean, when I woke up,
18:17I thought I'd get to the 1%.
18:18By the time I left home,
18:20I thought 5% might be OK.
18:22By the time I got to the train station,
18:24I thought 10%.
18:24Right.
18:25Now I've just used my pass,
18:26and I'm hanging on for dear life, so...
18:27Right.
18:28Still, the day started well, didn't it?
18:30Yeah.
18:31Well, listen, well done, Carl.
18:32You've used your pass.
18:33That's what it's for.
18:34Right, let's see what that's done to the prize pot.
18:3561,000 pounds!
18:41OK, it's time for the 40% question.
18:45Let's take a look at this one.
18:46Which of the following words
18:49cannot have a letter removed
18:50to leave a real word
18:52that sounds exactly the same as before?
18:54OK, your 30 seconds starts now.
18:56Do you want me to get that pass?
19:16Do you want me to get that pass?
19:17OK, your time is up.
19:28Let's see if you got it right.
19:29Right, we lost 16 people.
19:52Let's have a look at the answer.
19:54It's C.
19:55Source is not a real word.
19:57Somebody we've lost is Gurkhan Gazelle.
20:00What happened, Gurkhan?
20:01I started removing the first and last letters.
20:03I didn't think to remove a letter
20:04in the middle somewhere, so...
20:06Oh, so you knew it was only one letter,
20:08but you were starting, beginning, end of each one.
20:10Never mind.
20:11Are you normally a lucky person?
20:13Quite unlucky, I'd say.
20:14Oh, yeah, why?
20:16About 10 years ago,
20:17I used to play the lottery quite often.
20:19And one time I forgot to play
20:20and typically my numbers came up, so...
20:23How many numbers came up?
20:24All of them.
20:25I would have won the lot.
20:26Which is how much?
20:27At the time, it was 2.2 million.
20:31I don't want to take the mickey.
20:32I feel terrible.
20:33Never mind.
20:35Right, let's see what that's done to the prize pot.
20:39£81,000.
20:41Lots of people have used their patent this day.
20:43That's why the money's so high.
20:45It's getting tricky now.
20:46Let's move on to the 35% question.
20:48What one word do these three phrases all have in common?
20:57OK, your 30 seconds starts now.
21:03Fart?
21:05Oh, that only works for the first one.
21:06OK, time is up.
21:30Let's see who got it right
21:31and how many people are out.
21:32Right, we lost 11 people, though.
21:53Let's have a look at the answer.
21:55It's racket.
21:56They are all different definitions of the word racket.
21:59Jasmine Johal, we've lost you.
22:01Hi.
22:02Oh, Jasmine, what did you put?
22:03I put a sound.
22:05Sound?
22:06Yeah.
22:08Loud and pleasant noise is a sound.
22:10Mm-hmm.
22:11And then you've lost me.
22:13Same.
22:14I suppose just a bit of a guess.
22:16Yeah.
22:16Fair enough.
22:17Can we just pan back a little bit with the camera?
22:18I'm trying to work out,
22:20if you're quite small or the people either side are very tall.
22:23LAUGHTER
22:24This is really screwing with my perspective here.
22:28You're so different in height to the people next to you,
22:30I'm trying to work out if you're actually on the back row.
22:32LAUGHTER
22:33Unlucky.
22:34Someone else who got it wrong is Caitlin Simmons.
22:36Where are you, Caitlin?
22:37Hi.
22:37Caitlin, what did you put?
22:39Erm, nothing.
22:40You just gave up on that one?
22:41Yeah, I just couldn't say anything at all.
22:43All right, fair enough.
22:44What do you do, Caitlin?
22:45Erm, I'm a data analyst.
22:47A data analyst?
22:48Where are you from?
22:49Sunderland.
22:49OK.
22:50No, Newcastle.
22:51I mean, you couldn't even get that one right.
22:57How did you think you were going to do before you came here?
22:59Usually I do all right at home,
23:01but I thought the pressure of being in the studio
23:02might have brought me ditzy side out a little bit.
23:04Oh, I see.
23:05But you've done well, because you've got this far.
23:06Yeah.
23:07Well, up until recently, I actually thought elephants were white.
23:09I thought they were only grey, because they rolled around in mud.
23:12So I've done quite well, considering that's what I believe.
23:14Did you genuinely think that?
23:15Yeah.
23:16You thought the natural colour was white?
23:17It was white.
23:18What, and you thought you'd just never seen one after it rained?
23:20Well, me dad just told us, and I believed him.
23:24OK.
23:25You can expect it to know the colour of an elephant,
23:27but not necessarily all the questions.
23:30Right.
23:31Let's see what that's done to the prize pot.
23:35£90,000.
23:37OK, it's time for a quick break.
23:39Welcome, Trevor.
23:39We're still in the game.
23:40We'll see you in a bit when someone here
23:41could win up to £100,000.
23:43Welcome back to the 1% Club.
23:57We've been asking questions which have been tested out
23:59on a cross-section of the British public.
24:01We've been whittling down the contestants here tonight,
24:03and on left, with 36 people with their lights still on.
24:06Now, as a reward, any contestant who hasn't played their pass
24:09and still has their £1,000 now has a choice.
24:12Play on for the big money in the prize pot,
24:13or you can take your £1,000 and leave the game right now.
24:17So, first of all, let's see which players
24:19still have their lights on and still have £1,000.
24:20OK, so those of you with your lights on
24:24can take your money and leave the show.
24:25If you want, please make your decision now.
24:42OK, two of you have decided to take your £1,000
24:44and leave the game, including Niamh Taylor.
24:46What do you do, Niamh?
24:47Well, I'm a law student for Stoke-on-Torrent.
24:51Right. I'll be honest with you,
24:52I knew you were going to take £1,000
24:54because you look like a woman who's ready
24:55to just get straight back on the bike and go home.
24:57I am, I am, you're very right.
24:58Did you come with a motorbike?
25:00No, I drove.
25:01You drove.
25:01But I thought the £1,000 could cover my parking.
25:03Do you know how expensive it is to park here?
25:06You've just won £1,000, cheer up!
25:08Exactly!
25:10How much was it to park?
25:11I think it's going to cost me about £30.
25:13Right, so you're £970 better off, how about that?
25:16Exactly!
25:16Well done, Niamh, you've just won £1,000.
25:19Sorry, £970, because you've got to minus your expenses.
25:22Congratulations, you've both won £1,000.
25:27Right, so the rest of you have decided to play on.
25:29Let's see if that gamble will pay off
25:30and if any of you can go all the way and join the 1% Club.
25:33And remember, if you've still got your £1,000,
25:35you can pay for a pass to the next question
25:37if you don't know the answer.
25:39Right, it's time for the 30% question.
25:41Here it is.
25:46In a new word game,
25:48you score one point for every letter in the word.
25:51Then you take off two points
25:52if the word contains the letter E.
25:55Finally, double the points
25:57if the word contains a double letter.
26:00Which of these words would score the highest?
26:03OK, your 30 seconds starts now.
26:06OK, am I?
26:07OK, am I?
26:07OK, am I.
26:39Right, we lost nine of you there. Let's have a look at the answer.
27:03It's B, fitting with 14 points.
27:06So, we lost nine people there, including Trevor Vaughan.
27:10Hi, Lee. What do you do, Trevor?
27:11I'm a joiner and cabinetmaker and part-time TV extra.
27:15Are you? Yeah.
27:16What will we have seen you in?
27:18It's on Never Mind the Buzzcocks last year.
27:21The line-up? The line-up, yeah.
27:22Really? Who are you claiming to be?
27:24I don't know if many people heard of him.
27:26Wreck from...
27:27He was from Beats International, the group.
27:30I remember Beats International.
27:32Tankfly, buswalk, jam, nitty-gritty.
27:34You're listening to the boy from the Big Bad City.
27:36This is jam-hot.
27:37Yeah, you got it.
27:38This is jam-hot.
27:39You're in it, too.
27:44Never heard of him.
27:45Oh.
27:46Unlucky, Trevor.
27:47OK, let's see what that's done to the prize pot.
27:51We're on £92,000 already.
27:56OK, we're at the 25% stage now.
28:00Here's the question.
28:01What number replaces the question mark below?
28:08OK, time starts now.
28:25And you can use your pass.
28:31OK, time is up.
28:42Let's see if you've got it right.
28:43OK, we lost 12 on that one.
29:05Let's have a look at the answer.
29:07It is 12.
29:08The number on the right is the total number of lines
29:11in the number on the left.
29:12More lines have been added to the ones and sevens
29:14as you go down the list.
29:16We lost Owen Penel there.
29:18Owen, what did you put, Owen?
29:19I put 11.
29:20Oh, did you get the idea of the question?
29:22Yeah, I only saw one extra line at the bottom of the ones,
29:26so I just added one rather than two.
29:28Oh, do you know what?
29:29Just as you were saying, I thought there is any one.
29:31There's one on the left as well.
29:32Yeah.
29:32That is very unlucky.
29:34And you obviously were confident because you had your pass.
29:37I know, I thought I'd got it right,
29:38but I just didn't really.
29:39You haven't got time to double-check as well
29:40with a question like this, I don't think.
29:41Anyone waiting to see how you get on?
29:43Yeah, I've got a massive family at home.
29:46How big?
29:47I've got seven siblings, ten nieces and nephews.
29:50You've got seven siblings, so there's eight kids?
29:52No, sorry, I've got six siblings.
29:54I can't count.
29:55I can't even count my own siblings.
29:57I've got six siblings.
29:57Sometimes you miss a line, sometimes you miss a sibling.
30:00Yeah, there's a running theme here.
30:01Yeah, yeah.
30:02Never mind.
30:03You did well.
30:04You've got this far.
30:04It's quite a good place to be, the 25% question.
30:08OK, let's have a look at what that's done to the prize pot.
30:12OK, £95,000.
30:15That is very high at this stage.
30:17Lots of people have used their pass.
30:19We've got 13 people still in the game,
30:21and we are down to the 20% question now.
30:23Let's take a look.
30:27The words in each square have something in common
30:29that puts them in that square.
30:31Which of these words can go into all three squares?
30:35The time starts now.
30:39If I say anything, it might give something away.
30:41Mainly that I don't know the answer.
30:42OK, your time is up.
31:09Let's see if you've got it right.
31:12Right, we lost four people, though.
31:28Let's have a look at the answer.
31:31It's D, peep.
31:32The word needs to read the same backwards and forwards,
31:34which is the first square.
31:35End with a P, the second square,
31:37and have four letters, the third square.
31:39Somebody who got it right.
31:40George White.
31:41Hi.
31:41You're still with us, George.
31:43I am.
31:43What made you apply for the show?
31:45I've always wanted to be on television.
31:47I had the chance to go on to the Crystal Maze in the 90s.
31:51I was picked to go on, but my wife wouldn't let me.
31:54Why?
31:55Because we were moving house.
31:56She didn't want to do it on her own.
31:59You're still together?
32:00No.
32:02What will you do if you win the money?
32:03Buy some new tackle, because I'm a fisherman.
32:07Oh.
32:08And I currently live with my partner.
32:12She moved in during COVID.
32:14I know what your first question was on your first date.
32:16Yeah.
32:16If I ever went on the Crystal Maze.
32:18Well, I did say to her, you won't stop me going on,
32:21but she moved in during COVID.
32:22I haven't had the heart to ask her to leave.
32:25So if I won, I would ask her to marry me.
32:28Oh, thank God.
32:28I think she's asked me to leave.
32:36Listen, good luck.
32:36You're still with us.
32:37Let's see what that's done to the prize pot.
32:41£96,000.
32:43Right.
32:44We are getting close to the end.
32:46It's now time for the 15% question.
32:50Let's take a look at this one.
32:53You roll three standard dice to find a three-digit number,
32:56e.g. 235.
32:58What is the highest number you can roll
33:00where all three of the digits add up to 10?
33:04The 30 seconds starts now.
33:28Your time is up.
33:38Let's see whose lights are still on.
33:39Right, we've just lost one person, though.
33:56Let's have a look at the answer.
33:576-3-1.
34:00Someone who got it right is...
34:02Who's there?
34:03You're still with us, aren't you?
34:04I am.
34:05Yes.
34:05Are you feeling confident?
34:07You know what?
34:07It's different when you're here.
34:08It's different when you're here.
34:09Everyone says it, but it is...
34:10Why is it harder here?
34:11Is it because you're on telly,
34:12or is it just because there's so much money at stake?
34:14I'm having to tell myself every time I say,
34:15let's see what it's done to the prize.
34:17But I'm going, it's not real money.
34:18It's not real, especially the game.
34:19It's TV.
34:19It's fake.
34:20Please, please, next time I say it,
34:22shout that out really loudly.
34:23It's not real money.
34:24It's a fake.
34:24This is a whole sham.
34:25It's just a sham.
34:26It's just a sham.
34:27OK, well, listen, you're still with us.
34:29Good luck.
34:29You might not have a pass,
34:30but you're still up to the 10% question,
34:33which is good going.
34:34Now, there are two people left in the room with a pass,
34:37and Nick Phelps is one of them.
34:38Just about.
34:44Nick, you must be confident.
34:45If you're down to the final eight,
34:46and you're one of only two people with a pass.
34:49Starting to feel a little bit more confident, yeah.
34:52I've rode my luck on a couple of them, though.
34:53The last one was a complete guess.
34:55Because if you can get the next question right
34:58without using your pass,
34:59it means you're guaranteed a place in the 1% question
35:01if you want to take that, you know.
35:06Let's see what that's done to the prize pot.
35:10Nothing, because everyone had used their pass.
35:12So, £96,000,
35:14and we are down to our last eight players.
35:17After the break, we'll find out
35:18which of our remaining contestants
35:19could go on and play the 1% question.
35:22See you in a bit.
35:25Welcome back to the 1% Club.
35:36We are very nearly at the point
35:37where we will discover who our winner will be.
35:39Now, here's how the end of the game works.
35:41Whoever does the best here tonight
35:42will win £10,000,
35:44but if they're feeling brave,
35:46they can risk their £10,000
35:47by trying to answer the 1% question.
35:49Get it right,
35:50and they will win everything
35:51in the prize pot,
35:52which is currently sitting at
35:54£96,000.
35:59And remember, Nick and Jonathan,
36:01because you still have your £1,000,
36:03you can pay for a pass,
36:05but you can't use it
36:06on the 1% question.
36:07But if you've still got it
36:08at the 1% question,
36:09then you get to keep that £1,000
36:11no matter what happens.
36:13OK, there are only eight people
36:15left in the quiz,
36:15and it's now time
36:16for the 10% question.
36:23Each of the gaps below
36:25can be filled
36:26by a different three-letter sequence
36:27that goes after the first word
36:30and before the second word
36:31to make two new words.
36:34What nine-letter word
36:35is made when you put
36:36the three sequences together
36:38in order?
36:40The time starts now.
36:44If this question
36:45was any longer,
36:46it could have its own
36:46spin-off show on ITV2.
37:12OK, your time is up.
37:14Let's see who got it right.
37:15MUSIC PLAYS
37:16Right, we lost two people,
37:34though.
37:34Let's have a look at the answer.
37:36It's bartender.
37:38So, bartender.
37:39Someone who got it right
37:40is Jessica Weir.
37:42Hello.
37:42Hello, Jessica.
37:43You're still with us.
37:44Still just about, yep.
37:45Yeah, feeling good now, surely?
37:46Nope.
37:47No, of course you're not.
37:48Who's waiting to see
37:49how you get on, Jessica?
37:50My fiancé, Byron,
37:52and my two daughters.
37:54OK, and where did you meet Byron?
37:55So, yeah, funny story.
37:56So, we met in Asda.
37:58In Asda?
37:59Yep.
38:00I worked in the checkouts.
38:01He was in, like,
38:01the grocery department,
38:02and then we had our first date
38:04in the restaurant
38:05across the way from Asda.
38:06OK.
38:07And now we have
38:08our first house
38:09also across the way from Asda.
38:11Can I ask you a question?
38:12Are you being paid by Asda
38:13to say all this?
38:14No, I wish I was.
38:15But, yeah,
38:16and now we have been
38:17going out for ten years
38:18and have two lovely kids.
38:19Ah, the little ones.
38:21Yeah.
38:22It's a supermarket joke.
38:24Well done, Jessica.
38:26And Nick Phelps,
38:27let me tell you
38:28that you are now
38:29the only person in the room
38:31with a pass.
38:31So, well done, Nick.
38:35Which means, of course,
38:36you're guaranteed
38:36to answer the 1% question
38:38if you choose to use it
38:39on the 5% question.
38:42OK.
38:43Let's see what that's done
38:43to the prize pot.
38:47£97,000.
38:51OK.
38:51We are now down
38:52to the 5% question.
38:56And remember, Nick,
38:57it's the last time
38:58you can pay for a pass, OK?
39:00Let's have a look at it.
39:03If you remove all the words
39:04in this sentence
39:05that contain recurring letters
39:07within them,
39:08which becomes the ninth word
39:09in this sentence?
39:11And your 30 seconds
39:12starts now.
39:12MUSIC PLAYS
39:25OK, your time is up.
39:45Let's see how many
39:46of our remaining six
39:47got that right.
39:48MUSIC PLAYS
39:49Right, we lost five people.
40:10Let's have a look at the answer.
40:11It is word.
40:13That means we have a winner.
40:14Congratulations to Nick Phelps.
40:16You've just won £10,000
40:17and made it to the 1% question.
40:19Come down and join me.
40:27Nick, because you've done so well
40:28and made it to our final question,
40:30you win £10,000.
40:33CHEERING
40:33But now you've faced the dilemma.
40:37You can leave the show tonight
40:38and take your £10,000
40:39or you can risk it all
40:41by attempting the 1% question.
40:43If you get it right,
40:44you will win everything
40:45in the prize pot,
40:46which stands at...
40:47..$98,000.
40:52However,
40:53you did use your pass
40:56on the last question,
40:57which means if you get it wrong,
40:59the 1% question,
40:59you will leave with nothing.
41:01OK?
41:02So it is a big decision.
41:04And it is now time
41:05to make that decision.
41:06So, Nick,
41:07what are you thinking?
41:08£98,000 is a lot of money.
41:09Of course.
41:10A lot of money.
41:11Yeah, but so is £10,000.
41:12Is it a big decision in your head
41:14or do you think you're there already
41:15and you know what you're going to say?
41:16I'm massively torn, to be honest.
41:18I don't know what to do.
41:19I said if I got here,
41:20I would go for the 1% question.
41:23OK.
41:24And my dad told me not to come home
41:26if I didn't go for the 1% question.
41:28Most importantly,
41:28what about what your wife would say?
41:30She would say take the money.
41:31So she'd say take the £10,000.
41:33Yeah.
41:33But your dad would say,
41:34go for the 98.
41:35Yeah.
41:36Who gets things right the most?
41:38Your dad or your wife?
41:40Er...
41:40LAUGHTER
41:41You are on national television.
41:45My wife.
41:46Your wife.
41:46Sorry, Dad.
41:47Yeah, my wife.
41:47Yeah, yeah.
41:48That's because you're not going home
41:50to your dad straight after this, aren't you?
41:51So, Nick,
41:52it's a very big decision,
41:53but now I'm afraid I've got to ask you,
41:55what would you like to do?
41:56Would you like to take your £10,000
41:58or gamble it for £98,000?
42:02I'm going to take the money.
42:03Take the £10,000.
42:04Well done, Nick.
42:07Listen to your wife.
42:09Listen to your wife.
42:10For the sake of my marriage.
42:12Nick, you've decided not to play on
42:14for the 1% question,
42:15which means you will take £10,000.
42:17Congratulations.
42:18It's a bit annoying
42:22if you do get it right,
42:24but we have to have a look at it.
42:25So, Nick,
42:26this would have been
42:26your 1% question.
42:28Let's have a look at it.
42:33What common forward phrase
42:34is represented here?
