A driver who killed a nine-year-old girl after falling asleep at the wheel of a bus under the influence of drugs had his sentence increased following the Solicitor General’s intervention.
00:00A solo Oguagua was driving a bus in Bexley Heath before he fell asleep.
00:07The bus drifted across the carriageway and mounted the pavement as nine-year-old Ada Bichachki was riding her bike with her family.
00:19Ada's family managed to jump to safety, suffering only superficial wounds.
00:24But Ada was left with catastrophic injuries.
00:29She was taken to hospital but died two days later.
00:33A solo Oguagua failed a drug test at the scene, having taken cannabis the night before.
00:40CCTV inside the bus shows him yawning, opening a window of fresh air and appearing to close his eyes frequently.
00:50Martin A solo Oguagua was sentenced to four years imprisonment for causing death by dangerous driving and causing death by careless driving when over the prescribed limit on the 9th of June.
01:06However, on Wednesday, his sentence was increased to six years and eight months after it was referred to the course of appeal under the unduly lenient sentence scheme.
01:21In response to the development, the solicitor, General Lucie Rigby, said Martin A solo Oguagua selfishness needlessly took the life of a young girl, causing irreparable damage to a family.
01:38She added she welcomed the court's decision to increase his sentence.
