00:00Alright, hi people, it's Jiggs here and I'm here to do an unboxing for you guys today of the Nintendo Switch 2 Wireless GameCube controller from Nintendo themselves.
00:13As a result of them needing to be able to get as many of these out as possible to the people who want them, they have limited only one per customer on the Nintendo Store.
00:25So, yeah, I imagine at some point they'll raise that limit, but yeah, for now it's just one per customer. One per account, I mean, more so.
00:38But yeah, it's a bit more money than I think it should be, it's like 70-something bucks after tax, so yeah, I think it's like 65 on the store, then at least for my state, 5 more bucks for tax.
00:53But yeah, but yeah, so we got this, or so we got that out of the way, so yeah, right, I was gonna, whatever.
01:03So we have that, you can see the controller through the window here, which is nice.
01:09Switch online, and all that, Nintendo GameCube controller.
01:13So yeah, this is the first, like, wireless GameCube controller I've had.
01:17I did, I have used the WaveBird controller at someone else's house, but yeah.
01:23Um, yeah.
01:25So on the top you got Nintendo, it's a bit dinged up, but it's otherwise fine.
01:30Not like I'm gonna need the box anyways.
01:33Nintendo GameCube controller.
01:35So yeah.
01:36Um, controller only compatible with Switch 2.
01:40System, uh, features the C button, which can open the game chat and the capture button.
01:46So yeah, as well as a, uh, ZL button, which I don't really understand why for the, um, the Wii U at the very least.
01:54When they re- when they re- started re-releasing, like, GameCube controllers themed Dr. Smash Bros.
01:59Why they didn't slightly redesign it to have a ZL button, but whatever.
02:04Um, but yeah.
02:07Before the first use, charge the controller with the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter, or the included USB charging cable.
02:15So, yeah.
02:18Official Nintendo seal.
02:20Everything.
02:21The controller will automatically pair with the Nintendo Switch 2 system when it is turned on in TV mode, and connected with the USB charging cable.
02:30So, yeah.
02:32So, here we go.
02:35Um, so.
02:38So here we go.
02:42With the controller.
02:44Just.
02:45Take it out through this.
02:48A little bit of a plastic behind it.
02:54So, yeah.
02:55To fit in the extra electronics, I think they made it slightly bigger.
02:59This doesn't feel exactly like a regular GameCube controller, but it's close enough.
03:04And it's the same, like, texture.
03:07Same buttons, which is nice.
03:09Same control stick and D-pad.
03:11Our control sticks and D-pad start and pause right there.
03:16Right here on the top, you got the differences.
03:19So, there's the Z button, then the ZL.
03:21I don't understand why they didn't make this like this.
03:23Uh, that doesn't make any sense to me.
03:25We got the capture button, the home button, the chat button, and the sync button.
03:30We have the USB-C, uh, port on there.
03:35Just take this out.
03:37We got a USB 2 or 3.0, so USB-C, uh, cable.
03:48Which is nice of them to include.
03:51Not that I wouldn't think that they would.
03:56Yeah.
03:57That seems to be...
03:59What is this, like?
04:01I think this is like...
04:03It's between 3 and 6 feet, I'm assuming.
04:05Probably 6 feet.
04:07So...
04:10Let me plug this in.
04:14I have a, uh...
04:16A...
04:18Uh, what do you call it?
04:22A thing with, um...
04:25The, uh...
04:26USB port on there for these things.
04:30So you can see it's charging right there.
04:33Uh, it doesn't seem to be any...
04:36Yeah, there's no instructions or anything with it.
04:47So let's see...
04:48Controllers.
04:50Um...
04:56We got...
04:57Ah, Switch 2.
04:59Uh...
05:00Oh...
05:01Okay, so I have to...
05:03Uh...
05:04Uh...
05:05Uh...
05:06Oh...
05:07Okay, so I have to...
05:08Uh...
05:09Uh...
05:10Uh...
05:11Uh...
05:12Uh...
05:13Okay, so I have to...
05:14Uh...
05:15Uh...
05:16Uh...
05:17Uh...
05:18Uh...
05:19Uh...
05:20Okay, I see.
05:22Uh...
05:25Uh...
05:26Uh...
05:27Uh...
05:28Uh...
05:29Uh...
05:30Uh...
05:31Okay, I see.
05:33Okay. Okay, I see.
05:41There we go. So you can see.
05:48Yeah.
05:50Yeah, this feels just about the same as the HORI controller that I have, but the texture
06:02is just different. So that's honestly really cool, to have that like that.
06:10Uh, so yeah, so let me, uh, just trying to enter sleep mode with it. So yeah, so that just
06:29disconnects that. So that is actually really cool. Um, so yeah, so that is basically the
06:42new wireless GameCube controller from Nintendo, uh, for Switch 2, which is actually really
06:49cool. I do like that they did that. Um, so yeah, granted, doesn't beat the original GameCube
06:57controllers from 2001. Um, but it is still nice. Um, so yeah. So yeah, I was gonna compare
07:08it to the HORI controller that I have and, uh, the Smash Bros GameCube controller, but I forgot
07:13about those before I started recording this video and I don't care to go get them. So yeah,
07:18just take my word for it. It's not as good as the original GameCube controller, but it
07:22is still good. Um, so yeah. Hey everyone. So I said I wasn't doing it during the main
07:28video, but I am tagging this on to the end of it, uh, just really quick to compare the
07:34new wireless GameCube controller to a classic one and the HORI, uh, gamepad that I have.
07:42So yeah. So as I showed off during the main video or the main part of the video, um, here
07:48is the wireless one. Feels pretty good in terms of the texture. All the buttons feel right
07:56because it's made directly by Nintendo. Here's the Smash Bros GameCube controller from 2014.
08:03Um, yeah. So, uh, yeah. That feels right in regards to that. Here's the HORI, um, switch
08:12controller. As you can hear, there's already a difference in the buttons. Uh, the texture
08:20is almost the same, but it's more smooth. Um, even on the parts where my fingers don't
08:26really touch much. So, yeah. So, differences between this and a classic GameCube controller.
08:36So, I think I was probably wrong during the main review part. Uh, mainly, I was just thinking
08:43that this feels, like, a little bit more out than a classic GameCube controller, but just
08:50looking at it and eyeballing it, it doesn't look that much different, if at all. Uh, it
08:55looks like it's the same, like, casing, though with slightly different, um, insides. So, yeah.
09:02The tops are exactly the same, just about, in terms of button layout and, uh, stick configurations
09:10and everything. Uh, the, um, the sides here are one half my ears of using this, but, yeah.
09:19But the texture on the parts where my fingers usually don't touch is exactly the same, basically.
09:25Um, so, yeah. So, whatever they do to the plastic when they make these, it's exactly the same
09:38between both. On the top, replacing the, uh, wire that you connect to your console, um, we
09:46just have on top here. You have the same buttons. The R buttons feel slightly different, but, yeah.
10:00Z buttons feel exactly the same. The main buttons feel exactly the same as well in terms of pressing,
10:06which is nice. Um, so we can assume those are roughly the same. But, on top of that, you have on top
10:14here, uh, is the ZL button, which, yeah. I just, I really think that they could have just made this
10:22over here and just put, like, ZR or something on this instead. But, yeah. But, replacing the
10:29wire, you have a USB-C port. You have the sync button. You have the, uh, screenshot button,
10:36the home button, and the chat button. So, yeah. Obviously, these lights. So, that is basically,
10:44I think, the majority of the differences. These are slightly different on what is printed here.
10:51But, yeah. That is basically the majority of the differences you'll automatically see. Now,
10:55in terms of the HORI gamepad, um, I think the HORI gamepad is a little bigger than a usual
11:04GameCube controller. Um, like, they modded it for some reason. Uh, but, yeah. Uh, but I think this
11:13is probably based on the same, like, schematics or blueprints or whatever, or project files or
11:18whatever, as the original GameCube controller. This just feels a little bigger. It feels a little off
11:25as a result of that. Um, so, yeah. Just also, like, and I think this has been a big, like,
11:34maybe criticism of this or just something people point out. These buttons don't, like, feel the
11:40same as when you click an actual, uh, button on an actual GameCube, uh, real GameCube controller.
11:48They're slightly off. And on top of that, uh, this stick, uh, is replaceable. It has a stick that is
11:55like this, in case you're used to a more general, like, thumbstick, um, from other controllers. I just
12:03replace it with the C-stick because it just feels better in my hands. But, yeah. And then in terms
12:08of the D-pad, it is, it does feel slightly different as well compared to the actual GameCube controller.
12:15Yeah. So, on top here, I have the Sonic symbol because I got this one specifically. It was either
12:20this or the Luigi one. Um, but, yeah. But, you have the plus button here, you have the home button here,
12:26the can't, or the screenshot button here, and the minus button there. Here, you just have the start
12:30button. And you just have those on top. So, yeah. And as a result of them, I think, making this bigger,
12:37they modded this, uh, to have regular, like, triggers and bumpers. So, yeah. And this is what
12:46I think that they should take, um, inspiration from for the Z, for the extra Z button instead of
12:52making it a really subtle thing here. I think that this would do much better in terms of
12:59that. But other than that, uh, again, it feels a little bigger. Um, so, yeah. And I think it,
13:08I think it is just eyeballing it just a smidge bigger as a result. It's probably to fit either
13:13bigger hands or to have slightly different, like, um, wiring inside of the casing. So,
13:22yeah. So, the good thing about, uh, the wireless GameCube controller is, thanks to it being made
13:28directly by Nintendo, um, it's the exact same casing and exact same size, it seems, as an actual game,
13:36or as the original GameCube controller. Compared to the Hori gamepad, it's really, I think, a subjective
13:42kind of thing. If you like the extra size of the gamepad, uh, because it's a little bit bigger,
13:47like I said, than an actual GameCube controller, it might feel weird to you to use a smaller,
13:53a slightly smaller, uh, GameCube controller. Um, but to me, I think the original size is the best
14:00for the GameCube controller. When I picked up the Hori gamepad and I started using it while it was okay
14:05to play with. The slightly bigger size is, uh, slightly a bit to get used to. Then the buttons,
14:14the buttons on the Hori gamepad do not feel like, and they don't sound like, the, uh, the actual GameCube
14:21controller. Um, and to me, that's kind of the thing that you need to nail. It's close enough,
14:29but you will not know the actual thing in terms of a GameCube controller. Uh, it's all, the button
14:36presses on the GameCube controller are also a bit more subtle, and the sound is a bit different than
14:43on the Hori gamepad. And yeah, so like I have been trying to say for the last few minutes, the Hori
14:50gamepad is not bad. It's just not the same as an actual GameCube controller. The new wireless GameCube
14:57controller is pretty much exactly the same as a classic GameCube controller, or as a wired one,
15:04uh, from the GameCube. And when the Wii U, uh, version of Smash Bros launched, as well as I think
15:11when they launched the Switch version, and they re-released those, uh, the, uh, the, uh, GameCube
15:18controller adapter for Wii U, they re-released that so you can use it for Switch, plus I believe re-released
15:24the controller itself. So yeah, if I'm in Japan, when I'm in Japan next, and if I can stumble upon
15:31a white GameCube controller that they released over there for Smash Bros, I will pick one up. Um,
15:39this was the one that they released internationally, it was black, and it has the Switch, or the Smash
15:44Bros logo on it. Um, but they released the white one in Japan, and I think maybe some other places.
15:49So, yeah. Um, but, yeah, so to just have a final thoughts, quick final thoughts on the controller
15:59after comparing it, I think that it is good. They did a really good job with adapting it to a wireless
16:04thing that runs on, uh, I don't know if it's Bluetooth or whatever other kind of wireless signal that
16:11Nintendo uses for their stuff on the Switch. But, yeah, and again, it's only usable on the Switch 2.
16:17So, yeah, if you're gonna make your purchase, uh, just be aware of that. So, yeah, you cannot use it
16:24on the original Switch 1. I've seen other videos with people confirming that, so, yeah. So, I think
16:30it's a slightly different wireless protocol, and it's probably also, um, programmed that way. So,
16:35yeah, because Nintendo, uh, Nintendo, they refused to release the, uh, GameCube emulator on the
16:43original Switch, even though the original Switch could handle it. We know that because they ported
16:47other GameCube games to the Switch. So, yeah. Um, and, uh, and also they make this incompatible
16:55with the original Switch. But, yeah, so that's basically it. So, yeah, link in the description
17:01of my channel and I'll see you guys in the next one.
