00:00I'll see you next time.
00:30On to the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore for the 30th match of the Wales World Cup 1996.
00:44Defending champions Pakistan taking on the team they beat in the semi-finals of the last edition New Zealand.
00:51Both sides going in with unchanged lineups.
00:54First Pakistan with their in-form openers Amir Sohail and Saeed Anwar in a solid middle order
00:59with Ijaz Ahmed, Inzuma Mulhaq, Javed Miyadad and Saleem Malik.
01:03The bowling perhaps not looking as strong as the batting.
01:06Waqar Younis and Aakib Javed supported by Mushtaq Ahmed and then only the part-timers
01:11Saleem Malik, Ijaz Ahmed and Amir Sohail.
01:14Waqar and Aakib who were very fine bowlers though neither of them at their peak.
01:19I think the early 90s is when they were at the absolute pump I think.
01:23And Mushtaq as well I think was slightly better in the early 90s than he was at this stage.
01:28There was still an attacking bowling line-up and with enough flair and certainly enough
01:34for the New Zealanders I think.
01:36For New Zealand, Craig Spearman and Nathan Astle are followed by Lee Jamon in the batting order.
01:42Pushing himself up from the lower middle order was the New Zealand captain.
01:46Fleming, Toos and Cairns make up the middle order and as far as the bowling is concerned,
01:51Morrison, Nash, Cairns and Kennedy looks a solid bowling line-up supported by the all-rounders
01:55Astle, Thompson and Roger Toos.
01:58It was the New Zealand captain Lee Jamon who won the toss and decided to put Pakistan into bat.
02:03First ball, Amir Sahal on strike.
02:09And straight away and no ball so it's not a good start for Morrison.
02:12A real mix-up here, could be a run-out is there.
02:15Goodness me, we've seen problems before with the opening combination between Amir Sahal
02:20and running between the wicket with Saeed Amwa is not good.
02:23And I see problems and offer no ball.
02:26Well, everything happening in the first ball.
02:29That was a good delivery from Danny Morrison.
02:31That one swung.
02:32It swung a bit late.
02:34And there it is, Amir Sahal.
02:37That would have been disaster because obviously Saeedan were not responding.
02:42So if he's run off the bat, perhaps two, they're looking to come back unless they'll make it safely.
02:53A little bobble down in the deep from Dion Nash.
02:55So action already.
02:57Danny Morrison looking to angle the ball back into the left-handers.
03:01That's his stock delivery.
03:05And onto the legs again.
03:06That's beautifully timed through mid-wicket from Sahal.
03:09And that's gone all the way.
03:12That was a perfectly placed and well-timed shot by Amir.
03:16Danny Morrison pitching it up.
03:18And I think he is struggling with his rhythm.
03:21There it is.
03:23Amir Sahal placing it perfectly and timing it so well that the ball going for four runs.
03:33Onto the legs again.
03:34And that's beaten Thompson at square leg.
03:36This would be a good contest.
03:39And the ball wins the race again.
03:43Yes, having said that about New Zealand team, I think that's no excuse for Danny Morrison not to be able to get into rhythm quickly and roll properly.
03:51Because I think here again we see that he has strayed with that swing going to left-hander on his legs.
03:58That's wide and that's gone through the covers.
04:04That's a magnificent shot for four.
04:07Here's Danny Morrison again giving Amir Sahal both the width as well as the length to launch the drive.
04:15And you'll see here Danny Morrison coming close to the wicket, beautifully timed and perfectly placed.
04:21Well, this is a good pitch.
04:24Richard Hadley picked the broad, come on to the bat nicely.
04:27Well, it's certainly coming on nicely.
04:28It's leaving even quicker at the moment from Amir Sahal.
04:31Dion Nash.
04:35And that's a good delivery and that's it.
04:38And inside edge is a big appeal from the New Zealanders again.
04:41And once again, Amir Rawlinson is unmoved.
04:45Well, that was a fine delivery from Nash.
04:47Coming back and climbing on the batsman.
04:49Certainly a sound, Arsif.
04:50Yes, there is.
04:52And it will be interesting to see in the replay whether, again, Syedan Rawl getting his...
04:58There's no doubt about it that it hit something and maybe it hit his trousers.
05:08That's right.
05:09He's almost dragged that on.
05:11It's gone very close to going back onto leg stump.
05:16Well, Dion Nash certainly has been building exceptionally well.
05:20And again here.
05:21And it's very unlucky not to get Amir Sahal this time.
05:27And there it is.
05:29The ball just getting the inside edge and missing the stamps.
05:33Yes, I think the back boot there really did save Amir Sahal.
05:36At point at the moment is Chris Harris acting 12th man.
05:40Because we understand that Danny Morrison has left the field with some problems.
05:46I understand that Morrison may have a little bit of a problem with his groin.
05:54It's too wide and that's gone past Harris.
05:57And now what we were just talking about.
05:58He's very good there in the covers.
06:00And he's not good enough to stop that.
06:01That was a beautiful shot.
06:04And Dion Nash for once giving Amir Sahal the luxury of going onto the back foot and placing that ball between extra cover and point.
06:15It's a miss field there.
06:21And that's gone for four.
06:23Bad bit of fielding it.
06:24Took it off from Pirori.
06:26It's a good shot from Amir Sahal.
06:29And that's his fifth boundary of the morning.
06:31That was a magnificent shot.
06:33That was again beautifully timed by Amir and Saeed Amir who was partnering Amir Sahal.
06:43If he could also just play proper cricket I don't think they need to take any risk.
06:48That's in the air.
06:53He hasn't really got a hold of it but it could just about get to the fence.
06:56Yes it will.
06:59Didn't initially look to be all that well timed.
07:02But he's in such good touch that that's another boundary.
07:06Minimum foot movement.
07:08Just a bit short of length.
07:11He pulled it not quite as well as he would have liked to but enough to get a boundary.
07:16Oh just about chopped that onto his stumps.
07:19He may well get four runs out of it.
07:21It was the slower ball from Cairns.
07:23And Amir Sahal a little lucky.
07:26Fortune no favours the Braves so they say.
07:32Yeah Cairns was a bit unlucky.
07:35But it's the way Amir Sahal plays.
07:37He has to have a bit of luck.
07:39Because he plays a lot of shots.
07:42He plays all around the wicket.
07:46Down the track and over the top.
07:53Said Amir takes a leaf out of Amir Sahal's book and hits his first boundary.
07:57Yes for Said Amir to have been playing like he was for such a long time is quite unusual.
08:10That's a great shot.
08:15Well that's beautiful time too.
08:18Look at the timing on that.
08:20Second consecutive boundary.
08:27That really was a brilliant timed shot.
08:32He just leant into it as you will see.
08:34There's no effort gone into it.
08:36It's just a sort of forward push.
08:38Hallmark of a very fine timer off the ball.
08:42A lot of talent there.
08:46Out of the top.
08:48And heading out to the boundary.
08:50And that is 50.
08:52For Amir Sahal.
08:52Very good performance by Amir.
09:01It's in the air.
09:13Oh that's a brilliant catch.
09:15Shane Thompson.
09:16That's got to be one of the catches of the tournament.
09:19Sensational catch.
09:20The shot by Amir Sahal.
09:26Just look at Shane Thompson.
09:28And what a magnificent catch.
09:31And New Zealand needed to produce something.
09:33And Robert Kennedy is the bowler.
09:35Ijaz Ahmed is the new batsman for Pakistan.
09:38Replacing Amir Sahal.
09:43Driven beautifully.
09:45And it could be four runs.
09:46And it is.
09:47Square of the wicket.
09:48And it's 86 for one.
09:51What a beautiful shot by Seidan.
09:54Seidan well has been somewhat subdued this morning.
09:56I was just questioning his health before.
09:58But on that particular occasion.
10:00Even though he's got Eunice's shirt on there at the moment.
10:02He said he did time that one nicely.
10:04Probably tried to hit it a little more straighter through the covers.
10:07But managed to slice it.
10:08Just backward a point.
10:09And it really did dissect the third man as well.
10:18And that's beautifully played.
10:19Another four.
10:20Wide of mid-on.
10:21What a beautiful shot that.
10:23Perfect timing.
10:24Perfect placement.
10:26Four all the way.
10:27Yes.
10:28Four was in consecutive deliveries now.
10:29So that suggests that the New Zealand bowling has just been too inconsistent today.
10:33They've been hit both sides of the wicket.
10:35With one going backward a point for four.
10:37Then the other one going through wide mid-on for four.
10:39Suggests that the bowler's line is somewhat astray.
10:48And this one he's placed it well.
10:51It's going to be four rounds to the third man boundary.
10:55Previous one he tried to cut it late and fine.
10:59This one he cut it a little square.
11:01And it's gone for four.
11:02Plays the cut shot very well to Seidan well.
11:05So in fact there's been a tremendous amount of consistency in his game in this tournament to date.
11:10Asaed and well on strike now.
11:12He's on 49.
11:15And on the pads again.
11:17And they pick up two.
11:19And he completes yet another 50 in the World Cup.
11:23And I must say a very confident 50 that was.
11:28Frightening when you look at the batting to come for Pakistan.
11:31From the bowling line-up for New Zealand.
11:33With the scoreboard.
11:34And Ian, I can't help thinking that Javed, Miadad and Salim Malik would be dying to get into bat on this wicket.
11:41Because this is the only time they'll have a match before the World Cup semi-final.
11:48Well, they might get in now because there's a chance of a catch down at Longo.
11:50Cairns is underneath it.
11:52It's cleared him.
11:52And it's six to Seidan well.
11:54And it's six to Seidan well.
11:58Yeah, Seid didn't really time that ball.
12:00But still managed to go for a six.
12:04You will see in the replay that he didn't really get hold of it.
12:10You know, it was a sort of more toppish edge.
12:15It didn't really middle the bat.
12:17But still it managed to go for a six.
12:19Well, he's called for the third umpire here.
12:27This could be very unlucky for Saeed Anwar because umpire KT Francis,
12:33it was a deflection, a definite deflection from Shane Thompson.
12:36It's gone back onto the stumps.
12:37And KT Francis has called for the third umpire.
12:43Here we go.
12:44This may tell it in Ramp.
12:45Side-on angle.
12:46What's the story here?
12:50That looks out.
12:56So close to call.
12:57It's so vital as well in the context of the match.
13:00It really is vital.
13:04And we've got the red light, have we?
13:05Yes, umpire Sharma from India has said that Saeed Anwar is run out.
13:11So joy at last for New Zealand.
13:13Desperately unlucky, Saeed Anwar.
13:16A great knock again today.
13:1762 off, 67.
13:19139 for two.
13:21Another four umpire strides to the wicket for Pakistan.
13:25Inzamam al-Hak.
13:29There he goes.
13:31Straight down the ground.
13:33And over the top for six.
13:35Big blow by Inzamam.
13:39Yes, and as long as that man is there,
13:40he's going to entertain this crowd.
13:42And what a magnificent shot that was.
13:44His timing and the amount of time he's got to play his shots.
13:48And he certainly played that magnificently.
13:49And he's greeted and he's got a wicket immediately as Ejaz slashes the ball and is held.
14:00So to greet Cairns, Ejaz plays rather a loose shot and gratefully accepted by Craig Spearman for New Zealand.
14:11And that's the third wicket.
14:12Ejaz goes for 26.
14:14It's 155 for three.
14:15Great celebrations in the grounds here at Lahore.
14:27Javid Miendad is the new batsman.
14:29An incredible reception when he came out to bat.
14:31Big heave here by Inzamam and he's got plenty on that.
14:38That's four runs.
14:39And that's what is expected of Inzamam.
14:49This delivery, not really all that shot, but coming into the batsman and with that vacant long-on position.
14:58Bit of fingers spinning there by Chris Keynes.
15:02Inzamam quick to pick it up.
15:03And played down to third man, a late cut, a very, very fine shot in the lead.
15:13He just waited for that ball and guided it along down to third man.
15:20Miendad facing.
15:24And that could be a run out.
15:25Oh, yes, he's landed.
15:27He's gone.
15:28One, seven, three, four, four.
15:30As we see Robert Kennedy bowling there to Java, just pushed the ball out there into the covers.
15:34And a wonderful dive here from Chris Harris.
15:37And it's the recovery.
15:38The fact that he gets up quickly and returns it back to Jamon.
15:41Miendad left stranded.
15:42So he's been run out expertly there by Chris Harris.
15:45So Pakistan lose their fourth record now at 173 on the board.
15:51That's a big hit.
15:52It's going to be four runs.
15:56Magnificent shot, that.
15:57And that brings the crowd to life.
16:02Just gave himself a little bit of room.
16:03A bit wide, too.
16:05And he got that ball in the air.
16:07And he really did smash that one over covers.
16:09And that's gone all the way to the boundary for four.
16:11Super shot.
16:12And Nathan Astle, he can't afford to give the batsman that amount of room.
16:16That's another fine shot.
16:17Passed the burlough on the onside.
16:19It's going to be four runs.
16:21The long on couldn't cut it off.
16:22And that was the power of that shot.
16:24So Inzimam is looking to increase the momentum now.
16:30Wonderful batting line-up.
16:33This could be two again as he plays it to the same fielder.
16:37And Inzimam's down the wicket.
16:39That could be a run out.
16:40And it almost certainly will be.
16:42Inzimam was coming back for the second.
16:45Stranded.
16:45And once again, Inzimam is run out.
16:492-0-1 for five.
16:51And that's a lucky break again for the New Zealanders.
16:53In fact, some ways they've had a little bit of good fortune out there in the field.
16:56And Salim Malik gets that one round the corner.
16:58He goes for one.
16:59And I don't think Salim was looking for a second.
17:03But Inzimam certainly was.
17:04As Salim puts his hand up, Inzimam wasn't looking at all.
17:08And that's a total botch-up.
17:10The ball coming back to Roger too.
17:11He throws it back to Jamon.
17:13Inzimam, he's left stranded.
17:14And that's a big wicket and a very important wicket there for New Zealand.
17:17Fifth wicket down, 201 on the board.
17:19Wasim Akram, the new man in, and he's coming at the fall of Inzimam's wicket.
17:30Well, that's beautifully played.
17:33Salim Malik is showing all his experience.
17:36Slashes it through square for four.
17:39There's not much else Roger too's could do here when someone starts dancing around the crease.
17:44You get a ball nice and full and nice and straight.
17:46Well, he's done that.
17:47He's almost got the length.
17:48Inch perfect, Roger too's.
17:50But when the class of the player there came into play, Salim Malik, a danger man.
18:00Well, that's an unusual delivery.
18:03Oh, and it's done, Deepak Patel.
18:11He's got a lot of experience, Deepak Patel.
18:14This is almost a baseball shot from Salim Malik.
18:16And because he slices it, it's got backspin on it.
18:20And if you've got experience, you know that when it pitches, it's probably going to turn back in towards you.
18:25Uh-oh.
18:25Chops it down past the lead stump, and it's an effective shot.
18:32It's going down to the fence for four.
18:33Eight off the over, 240 for five.
18:44Change of pace again by Astor.
18:45We're not going to make too much difference.
18:47It's still four.
18:48Beautifully played.
18:50The other thing that slows the over rate down too, Grant.
18:52There's a number of boundaries that are hit.
18:54You've got to go and fetch it, and this is another good boundary.
18:57And the Pakistan cause.
19:00It's a sweep shot really, down on one knee.
19:03And past the man, the umpire at square leg.
19:06Beautifully timed by Wazim Akram.
19:08And this is a little gem he's playing here.
19:12Big edge.
19:13And away.
19:14Four runs.
19:21Well, Wazim Akram is in a little bit of pain.
19:24I'm sure that to lead him on, the New Zealand captain will be as well.
19:27And the bowler, Chris Cairns.
19:29Because this does hurt.
19:30Good change of pace here.
19:31Quick off spinner.
19:33Hanging back in towards off stump.
19:35Frees the arm, Salih Malik, and just gets enough on it to race away past the keeper for four.
19:44As Tony Hebson on the onside, that's well played.
19:47Beautifully played.
19:49And that's 50 for Salih Malik.
19:52Well, there's been some great little cameo knocks in this tournament so far.
19:56This is right up the top of the list.
19:57This one's from Salih Malik.
19:59It's come at exactly the right time.
20:01And I think he's hit to something like 11 boundaries in this 50.
20:11Gets it away very fine.
20:13That'll go down to the boundary.
20:16And there's a bit of bat on it too.
20:17Well, he couldn't have placed this better.
20:23Wasi Makrim shuffles across the stumps, looking like it's going to miss off stump.
20:27And then just a little nick on it.
20:29Maybe a bit of pad as well.
20:33Gets it away on the leg side and straight out to the boundary.
20:37What a good way to finish for Wasi Makrim.
20:39But the question is, will we see him back when Pakistan Bowl, that they finish with a formidable 281 for five.
20:49And a partnership between Salih Malik and Wasi Makrim of 80.
20:52I think Wasi Makrim has had a kind of mixed legacy as Pakistan captain.
20:57There were times where players have not been completely happy with him and have revolted.
21:01And there have been times where they've responded wonderfully well against him.
21:06Under him, I'm sorry.
21:07We saw in Australia, we saw young players like Siklain Mushtaq and Shahid Afridi.
21:12And a young generation kind of emerge under Wasi Makrim.
21:16Lee Jamon would perhaps regret the decision to put Pakistan into bat as they piled up 281 for five in their 50 overs.
21:24Once again, a solid start from the openers of 70 runs between Sohail and Anwar.
21:28Sohail finishing with 50.
21:30Sahid Anwar with 62.
21:32Lower down the order, it was Salih Malik who picked up 55 of 47 balls.
21:35And Wasi Makrim, the captain, with 28 of 26 to steer them to 281.
21:41For New Zealand, there were just two successful bowlers, Chris Cairns and Robert Kennedy.
21:45And it was three runouts that saw Pakistan lose their five rickets.
21:50Boy, middled that beautifully.
21:52Really just stroked that away down through mid-off.
21:54And that's going to be four runs.
21:56Beautifully timed shot by Craig Spearman.
21:59A very positive start by Craig Spearman.
22:01That's the way he likes to play.
22:03And when you look at some of his innings to date,
22:06most of his innings last round about 26 deliveries.
22:08And he'd pick up round about 26 runs in those 26 deliveries.
22:11So he's a run-a-ball man, but that certainly is a wonderful start for him.
22:19Whoops it away.
22:19This will be another boundary.
22:21He's flicked it away off his pads.
22:23And that's four more.
22:24So a very good first over from New Zealand's point of view.
22:26Ten.
22:27Hammers that into the offside field and through.
22:34And no one protecting the boundary out there.
22:37That's four runs to Nathan Astle.
22:39Well, that's a better shot and a better start there for Nathan Astle.
22:41And quite clearly he and Craig Spearman are wonderful players to watch.
22:45And I suppose if we look at some of the attacking batsmen in world cricket today,
22:49then these two could rate just as highly as some of these other players.
22:52There's an edge.
22:55That's the end of Nathan Astle.
22:59Waka Yunis gets the first wicket and Astle is away.
23:03Of course, Waka Yunis does have that extreme pace.
23:06A lot of other bowlers don't necessarily have.
23:08And he does get it to run away as well, particularly with the new ball.
23:12And I think he's done, Nathan Astle, for pace.
23:14And Waka, right arm over the wicket.
23:18That's a good one.
23:19Just started to lead him a little bit.
23:21And Nathan Astle had to hurry the shot.
23:23The outside edge is found.
23:24Rashid Lateef does very well to dive to his right there.
23:26He's got an injured finger as well.
23:28And he does take that catch.
23:29So New Zealand leaves their first wicket with 23 on the board.
23:33Big change in the New Zealand batting line-up.
23:35Leeds him on.
23:35The captain is coming out to bat at number three instead of Stephen Fleming.
23:39So this is a real change in approach by the New Zealand team.
23:45Obviously in consultation with coach Glenn Turner.
23:47They had a big thing about this.
23:49And Leeds him on, who normally bats down about number eight, sometimes even nine,
23:53comes into bat at three.
23:55So let's see whether it works out.
24:00And he's got an edge too.
24:03He chased one.
24:04And Lateef takes his second catch.
24:07Yes, well, it's always a danger when you're looking to play shots as freely as the two New Zealand opening batsmen do.
24:13And he did chase a wide one.
24:15It might have left him a little bit.
24:16And looking to smash that one through the offside.
24:18And the outside edge is found.
24:20And again, Rashid Lateef does well to his right.
24:23Had to go quite a long way.
24:24But again, his glove work is good enough.
24:27And so he takes his second catch.
24:28New Zealand lose their second wicket at a very difficult stage.
24:31And at 23 for two, they've got a lot of work to do.
24:33New man in for New Zealand, Stephen Fleming at 23 for two in the sixth.
24:38New Zealand, Stephen Fleming at 23 for four in the sixth.
24:44And he's looking for that one that's angling in towards the pad area, Stephen Fleming.
25:00This is just going down leg side.
25:02It wasn't that bad of delivery.
25:03Maybe just a little bit short.
25:05But as you said, if he's a tall man, he's able to hit through the ball.
25:08And the secret, of course, in the first 15 overs, if he can lift it over the inner circle of fielders,
25:14you really are in business.
25:16Jamon to face our Cape Cibola.
25:19And that's hit down to third man.
25:24And it drops just ahead of Javed Miadad, who dived for it.
25:30First bounce.
25:31It hit his body and then ricocheted off.
25:34I think we just mentioned the word commitment, didn't we?
25:36Well, here's the old campaigner, Javed Miadad.
25:39You won't get a better commitment than this.
25:40These are nasty ones.
25:42The ones you don't quite know whether to go for.
25:44The ones that are going to bounce up and get you in the teeth if you don't get them quite right.
25:47Well, that's a lovely shot again by Stephen Fleming.
25:52Starting to show a bit of his quality now.
25:54And another one goes to the fence.
25:59Also, it's significant now that the ball is not swinging much either.
26:03That was a very good shot.
26:05He had a bit of room there, as you see.
26:09Arkiv obviously hoping that the ball would swing into him, which it did not.
26:14And therefore, the batsmen have plenty of room to play that shot.
26:18What's happening is that the ball has gradually stopped swinging.
26:22When, after the second or third over onwards, there was a noticeable amount of swing from both Arkiv and Wakaar.
26:28And you see that it's disappeared almost.
26:31Driving through the covers.
26:33A third boundary in the over.
26:34Terrific over this for New Zealand.
26:44It just shows, again, Arkiv pitching it up, hoping that it would swing, which it did not.
26:53And became a very nice half volley.
26:55It just shows on this wicket, if two batsmen get in, it is a perfect batting track.
27:04The outfield is extremely fast.
27:05That's very wide, and that's got through.
27:10But there is a man sweeping out there now.
27:11He might just get around and grab it.
27:14And he does.
27:16And Fleming takes a two for the shot.
27:19And a 14 off the over makes it 60 for two.
27:27Lifted away by Fleming.
27:28That's a well-timed shot as well.
27:30That'll be another four for Stephen Fleming.
27:32So this is an expensive first over for Salim Malik.
27:37See, Salim is not a regular bowler.
27:40And chances are, every now and then, he will bowl well.
27:42And at times, batsmen will not be able to line him up.
27:45But not being a regular bowler, he's quite liable to go for runs.
27:50And that's why I feel that when Pakistan have the options,
27:54they have a good bowling attack, they should utilize it.
27:56So, Jamon, the strike rate really not what was desired.
28:02When he promoted himself up the order, 41, very slow.
28:07Use of the feet there, missed and stumped.
28:10So that's a bonus wicket for Pakistan.
28:12Salim Malik, he's done the job.
28:15He's gone past Stephen Fleming, trying to use his feet,
28:18never getting to it.
28:19And Rashid Latif needed the rest.
28:21Well, the captain is certainly quite pleased with that,
28:30getting that bonus wicket, as you said, Ian.
28:32And I think Stephen Fleming definitely not happy with that.
28:36Here, Salim Malik deceiving Stephen Fleming,
28:40who was playing him for the spin,
28:41and Rashid Latif getting his third wicket.
28:46So Fleming gone for 42, 83 for three.
28:49Roger Toos, another left-hander, replaces Stephen Fleming,
28:54who was undone by Salim Malik.
28:57Bonus wicket for the Pakistanis.
28:59New Zealand really did need Fleming to kick on,
29:01but he's gone, so it's up to Roger Toos.
29:0417th match today, averaging mid-30s.
29:07That's pretty good performance.
29:08450s, they may well need 100 from him
29:11if New Zealand are to get up and give 282 a good shake.
29:18So Roger Toos is here because of this dismissal.
29:21And Salim Malik, there he is,
29:24deceiving the batsman, playing for the spin,
29:26which was not there,
29:26and Rashid Latif doing the rest.
29:29So we mentioned that Roger Toos
29:34may just have to come up with a century.
29:37No one's done that for New Zealand against Pakistan.
29:39The best one-day score is, in fact, 91 by Martin Crowe.
29:42That was in the semi-final of the last World Cup.
29:48Straight away, the sweet shot comes out of the bag
29:51from Roger Toos,
29:52and he picks up a single to end a successful over
29:55for Pakistan after 18.
29:56New Zealand are 84 for three.
29:59And that's a good shot from Jamon,
30:04just pulling away to leg side
30:06and beating the man at cover,
30:07and that's four.
30:10That was a well-placed shot,
30:13and beating the fielder in the shot position,
30:16shot cover, that's Salim Malik,
30:18and hitting his first boundary,
30:21placing it perfectly and timing it beautifully,
30:25picking up four runs.
30:26And that's up in the air.
30:31He could be out gone.
30:33Yes, he's gone.
30:33Well, it's very difficult trying to hit Mushtaq over the top
30:39as he picks the ball up there.
30:40And Lee Jamon really had no alternative
30:42but to really try and force the momentum there for New Zealand
30:45because they're just getting further and further behind the run rate.
30:48And it was nicely tossed up there by Mushtaq.
30:51And Lee Jamon just not trying,
30:53just not getting control of that one.
30:55Straight up in the air,
30:56and it went back with a point.
30:57And Ataro Rahman, the reserve fielder,
30:59substitute fielder,
31:00just turned a little bit on him,
31:02and Ataro Rahman comes around there
31:04and takes a straightforward catch.
31:06And so New Zealand lose their fourth wicket now,
31:08and as we see it again,
31:10just a little bit wide of Lee Jamon,
31:12trying to hit it over,
31:13perhaps widen it on,
31:15and just not quite getting on to it there.
31:16Easy catch.
31:17And so Drinks will come onto the field now
31:19as Lee Jamon has been out,
31:21caught by the substitute at Rahman for 41.
31:23Mushtaq gets the wicket.
31:24New Zealand now 132 for four.
31:27It's twos at the moment to face.
31:33And that's up in the air,
31:35and could he be gone?
31:36Yes, he is.
31:37Identical shot.
31:39And this time,
31:40it's Malik who takes the catch.
31:43So it's 138 for five.
31:46The sweet shot has actually undone Roger twos
31:49for the second time in this competition.
31:51That's how he got out against UAE.
31:53And the players have employed that shot in this tournament.
31:57That's the leg spinner Mushtaq that strikes again.
32:00And it might have been the wrong end again,
32:02and miscued there by Roger two,
32:03straight up in the air.
32:04And Malik takes a very simple catch indeed.
32:07It's behind square on the leg side,
32:09in a run-saving position.
32:10So two's goes for 24,
32:12and New Zealand lost their fifth wicket now,
32:13with 138 on the board.
32:15So Parouré coming out.
32:22And it's 138 for five.
32:33Amir Soheil, the bowler,
32:34and he's swept fine.
32:39And they take two.
32:40Gaines has had a go at this,
32:50and that's a huge hit.
32:52Way over the top.
32:53And that has enormous carry.
33:00Gaines, a very big hitter off the ball.
33:04Hitted very sweetly.
33:05Rory's got that away very fine,
33:19and it might work out okay for him.
33:21It has.
33:22He hit it so fine that it was inside,
33:24the man fielding at short third man.
33:26You see,
33:32you can see that the wicket is extremely easy.
33:35The batsmen have no problems either with the spinners.
33:38New Zealand, really,
33:39if they hope to have any chance,
33:42they've got to get after these bowlers.
33:45Gaines thinks along the same lines,
33:47and he lofts it away,
33:48and he might have just cleared the ropes.
33:49Yes, he has.
33:51Yes, that really was an effortless six.
33:54Controlled stroke.
33:55He picked a spot.
33:57A very balanced shot.
33:59Just watch here.
34:01Beautiful shot.
34:08Lovely striker of the ball, Chris Gaines.
34:16Oh, now what's that?
34:18It's a court behind.
34:19Yes, it is.
34:19So Gaines goes,
34:25a big blow for New Zealand's chances,
34:28and Ames Sahail takes the wicket.
34:32Yes, that ball turned a bit.
34:41Very good catch here.
34:42Watch the ball turn a bit,
34:44and a very, very good catch.
34:46Second attempt.
34:48Gaines goes for 32,
34:50182 for six.
34:53Last of the recognised batsmen for New Zealand,
34:55Shane Thompson,
34:56heading at number eight.
34:57And here are the stats for Shane Thompson.
35:03Quite an experienced player these days.
35:05He'll manage to kick on and get 100.
35:0783 is best.
35:09A couple of seasons back.
35:10Oh, big swing by Shane Thompson.
35:17Almost launched himself.
35:18Anyway, the ball's got past the keeper
35:20and has gone away down
35:21to the boundary for four byes.
35:34Yes, I'm afraid
35:35that wasn't very well kept by Rashid.
35:38Come on, boys!
35:38Again, Parori hitting that down
35:46to backwards.
35:47Queer leg, another bad bounce,
35:48and that's four more.
35:49So the pressure goes on
35:51the Pakistan field at the moment
35:52and not responding.
35:55Well, we have been talking
35:56about having a close finish.
35:58Pakistani field is contributing to it.
36:00Sakhalin Mushtaq was substituting.
36:03There it is.
36:04The ball being hit very hard.
36:06He had the ball under control,
36:07but suddenly found it slipping out of his hand
36:10in four more rounds to New Zealand.
36:12Again, Parori through the onside in the air
36:16and he's taken a catch in the deep.
36:19Mushtaq Ahmed is the fielder and he's limping after he takes the catch.
36:25Maybe just bruised in me or something, but that's a bonus wicket.
36:29Parori looking to swing Salim Malik away on the onside, looking to hit him over the rope and not quite timing it to perfection.
36:37Yes, he had to go, and that's the only chance New Zealand busman had that ball had to go.
36:44Unfortunately for Parori, he got it high on the bat.
36:47Had he middled it, I'm sure that would have cleared the field there.
36:50We're starting a very good, well judged catch.
36:52So a fine innings from Parori comes to an end.
36:57Maybe not enough for New Zealand, they're 2.21 for seven.
37:01So Dion Nash comes to the crease.
37:03A fall of Adam Parori's wicket.
37:05Bakar Yunus.
37:07Edge is it.
37:08It's a big nick, and he's gone, yes.
37:10Giving himself room, Shane Thompson.
37:13A faint touch, a faint outside edge,
37:15and Rashid Latif has number five.
37:18Yes, you can see the jubilation on his face.
37:27Well, a good piece of bowling again.
37:29He followed Shane Thompson.
37:31Look at the exaggerated movement towards the leg side.
37:34He exposed all the stumps, that wasn't the problem.
37:36The faint outside edge was.
37:38Through to Rashid Latif, he throws it high in the sky with delight.
37:42That's dismissal number five for him.
37:44Thompson's gone for 13.
37:45New Zealand, 2.28 for eight.
37:49So Robert Kennedy, young man from Otago,
37:52back in New Zealand.
37:55On the side for his bowling.
37:59So he's done a great job, Amir Sahal.
38:01He's asked to captain the side in the field at the last minute.
38:04The injury to Wazim Akram at the end of the batting performance from Pakistan.
38:08He's marshaled his troops well.
38:10He's bowled him.
38:11He's gone past Robert Kennedy.
38:13Looking to use his feet.
38:14He gave himself just too much room.
38:16And Aakib Javid, nice and straight, back goes off stump.
38:20And I think that's probably the end of New Zealand innings.
38:27Yes, it is.
38:28The players shake hands.
38:29Danny Morrison will not come out.
38:31And so New Zealand will finish it.
38:332.35 for nine.
38:35And Pakistan have completed a pretty comprehensive victory.
38:40But victory, it was sealed with the wicket of Robert Kennedy.
38:44Asked to do too much at the end.
38:46Aakib Javid on target.
38:47And that goes off stump.
38:49Swing and a miss from the young man from Dunedin.
38:52And he's gone.
38:54So New Zealand finish at 2.35 for nine in the 48th over.
38:58A win by 46 runs for Pakistan.
39:02A win that sees them now finish second in Group B.
39:05And a win that sees them keeping an appointment with India and Bangalore in one of the quarterfinals.
39:13New Zealand fell 46 runs short in their run chase.
39:17Finishing with 235 all-out and 47.3 overs.
39:21They lost wickets at regular intervals.
39:23The top scorer for New Zealand was Stephen Fleming with 42.
39:26Lee Jamon, the captain who had promoted himself up the batting order, got 41.
39:31Wakaar Yunus, Aakib Javid, Mushtaq Ahmed and Salim Malik all picking up two wickets apiece.
39:38To Pakistan then finishing with 281 for five in their 50 overs.
39:41A top scorer of 62 for Syed Anwar, 50 for Amir Sohail.
39:45And 55 of 47 balls for Salim Malik.
39:49Just a wicket apiece for Chris Cairns and Robert Kennedy in the bowling department for the Kiwis.
39:54New Zealand in reply 235 all-out.
39:57A top scorer of 42 from Stephen Fleming.
39:5941 from wicket keeper and captain Lee Jamon.
40:02And Adam Perore who's also kept wickets for New Zealand, picking up 36.
40:07The best bowling figures, 2 for 32 for Mushtaq Ahmed.
40:092 for 32 also for Wakaar Yunus in his nine overs.
40:13Salim Malik chipping in with a couple of wickets, finishing with 2 for 41.
40:17Pakistan then, emerging victors by 46.
40:20The best bowling players.
40:211.
40:222 for 42.
40:223 for 4.
40:223 for 42.
40:22It's on the leg of the sea.
40:234.
40:231.
40:232 for 42.
40:243 for 42.
40:254 for 42.
40:255.
40:26In the second half.
40:26The only one's got here is a boat.
40:275.
40:28The only one's got here is a boat.
