After Day 3 of the Oval Test, Yashasvi Jaiswal said he thoroughly enjoyed his fun and unexpectedly effective partnership with nightwatchman Akash Deep, praising his fearless approach and valuable contribution under pressure.
00:00Considering the game is very nice, how do you rate it your best?
00:07Of course, the wicket was a bit spicy, so it was great than batting.
00:14And I enjoyed it because I expect that in England when you play, you play wicket like this,
00:21so mentally I was ready and I was just enjoying.
00:24I knew what shot I was going to play on this surface, so I was really enjoying it.
00:29Shishwee, the time you spent as a batter is the highest in this test.
00:37Do you feel like we are taking heavy roller, then a bit of a wicket is good for 1.5 hours
00:44and then it will open.
00:46The other thing is that you have the captain of the test cricket.
00:50Do you have any questions about it?
00:53Can you tell us about it?
00:58Yes, I feel like the wicket was a bit difficult for me.
01:04The ball was a movement.
01:07I looked at Rohit and said hi.
01:11He gave me the message that he was playing with me.
01:14That was it.
01:16Do you have any impact on the wicket?
01:18I don't know.
01:20Yeshishwee, obviously, you played a lot behind the wicket.
01:26It was a conscious decision given the conditions.
01:31Obviously, what feedback do you give your own bowlers to bowl on this?
01:36Yeshishwee, I think that there is a lot of bounce in the ball.
01:41There are chances that I can play with the shot and I can play with my runs.
01:45So, it was in my mind.
01:46If we are bowling in Channel 9, I think it will be amazing because there is always a moment in the wicket.
01:54There is a moment and a swing moment.
01:56It is not that easy to bat.
01:57So, yesh, that's it.
01:59Hi.
02:00Yeshishwee, after a good start, you didn't get the start you wanted perhaps.
02:06So, how did you prepare yourself coming into the game?
02:09If you could just think about the mental thing and some learnings that you perhaps had had from those few optimists.
02:17I think, yeah, it is very important for all of us that we need to keep pushing ourselves.
02:22This was our last inning here.
02:24So, I was keep trying that mentally I was ready.
02:27I need to keep pushing on this game and try to get as much as I can.
02:32And, of course, seeing the wicket in the first inning, I was thinking like what can be the best option in this wicket.
02:38And I was just trying to play like that and be positive.
02:42And my intent was very good that I wanted to put pressure on the bowler that where they are going to bowl and where I can score runs.
02:49So, my mentality is always like that.
02:52I think, think positive and go for my shots.
02:55Depends what is the situation.
02:57If situation demands something else.
02:59So, I will enjoy that as well.
03:01Hi, Yushishwee.
03:03You play a lot of unconventional shots and they come off very brilliantly, very often.
03:10Sometimes you play a lot of new and your wicket is also going.
03:12So, how do you get feedback from your coach and senior teammates?
03:18How should you play?
03:19Bilkul, I think the feedback is always there that keep working hard as we all do and we try our best and we improve one percent every single day.
03:30So, I think cricket is the game of consistency.
03:33So, we try and make sure that we work hard in the practice session that whenever we go out there that game becomes easy.
03:40So, we were practicing very hard and we were enjoying the game very well.
03:43And we know what shot we can play.
03:45So, I think it's just keep doing the same thing again and again consistently.
03:49That's very important.
03:51Yushishwee, you talked about consistency.
03:54So, two centuries and two half centuries in the series.
03:58How happy are you?
04:00I think I wanted to do more.
04:02I wanted to make my innings bigger than that so I could have achieved something else.
04:10But it's okay.
04:11I was trying very, very hard for that and I was enjoying it.
04:14So, whenever I go out there, I think as long as I can bat, I enjoy batting as well.
04:21So, yeah.
04:22Yushishwee, can you talk a bit about your partnership with Akash Deep?
04:26It felt like you guys were having fun out there and actually putting pressure on England and enjoying that partnership.
04:32Of course, like Akash batted really well.
04:35He did what he could and he was playing shots as well and defending very well.
04:41So, we were just having talk in the middle what we can do best in that situation because we wanted him to play as long as he can play.
04:53So, that will benefit us as well.
04:55So, I was just keep thinking about that how we can build this partnership as long as we can.
05:02So, we were enjoying that and we were having a good fun.
05:05What were your learnings from your very first trip to England now in a test or your personal learnings from this test?
05:14What did you learn?
05:15What did you pick up?
05:16I think it's all about how I fight.
05:21Always the mentality is go out there and fight it out and enjoy because in the end as I tell myself that it's the game and we need to enjoy the game.
05:32That is very important.
05:33With that, we should have fun.
05:35So, I think there's a lot of learning.
05:38I can't tell everything but there is mentally, physically, emotionally, everything and I'm proud of myself and all my teammates that the way they have put the work last two months and enjoy the England series and it was tremendous.
05:56You seem very well placed to win this game potentially tomorrow. How confident are you that you're going to be able to do that and how much of an achievement would it during the series be?
06:09Of course, I think we are quite confident and we just need to focus on our process and keep bowling at the right areas.
06:16That's what we are thinking and we will try our best.
06:20And of course, we all are enjoying here and we want this, we want fun, we want some battle in the middle.
06:26So, that is the fun. That's why you play test cricket.
06:29Can you talk about how Gaurthy has worked with you in terms of your batting from starting from heading lead to this match?
06:41What are the kind of things that he has helped you fine-tune, which has helped you in your own batting?
06:46Of course, there is plenty of things that we have spoken about and we worked into the nets as well.
06:52And I think it's all about the tactics, how I can use in the middle and enjoy the game and put pressure on the baller as well.
06:59So, it's all about the situation in what I'm in. So, that's how we talk and it's very relaxing and very helping.
07:08Sir, it's amazing and I'm really enjoying it.
07:11Is it more mental than technical?
07:13I think it's all. It's not you can't actually tell one thing because it's emotionally, mentally, physically, everything.
07:21We just need to keep doing it and enjoying it.
07:25Very early in your career, you have been part of three, five test series now.
07:30One at home against England, one away in Australia and now in England.
07:34When you look back those 15 tests, how much has it helped you grow as a cricketer and as an individual?
07:42How hardened are you now?
07:44Of course, you get a lot of experience when you play test cricket. You are in the middle. You are learning different kind of cricket.
07:51When you are playing in India, the cricket is different. When you are playing in Australia, the cricket is different.
07:56When you are playing in England, the game is different. So, there is a lot of learning as well and understanding different kind of wickets and the environment as well.
08:06So, I think there is a lot to gain still and I am really enjoying it.
08:11Five test series for challenge specific team or team?
08:16I think the challenges are different in different places. If you are playing in India, the challenge will be different.
08:24You are going to play spin a lot. There will be spinners, three spinners in the team and when you are playing in Australia, there will be four seamers.
08:32And when you are playing in England, there will be four seamers. So, I think that's how you need to plan your game.
08:39I need to plan my game, my innings, where my shots are and where I am going to score runs.
08:46So, of course, I keep getting all these messages and playing with the seniors as long as I have played with Rohit Bhai, Virad Bhai.
08:56So, playing with them as well helped me a lot grow as a person and seeing them, what they have done in test cricket, how they have prepared themselves.
09:06So, I think it really helped me especially to improve as a player.
09:12And especially playing with all my mates now, KL Bhai, the way we chat and what we think about the game, how we think about the game, Gil Bhai.
09:20Everyone is just, it's very interesting and it's like I am really enjoying it.
