00:00Good evening, Rangers in one of the oldest cities in the world, a bustling metropolis in the shadow of the Acropolis where their Champions League dream is alive and kicking after last Tuesday's win in Glasgow, with two more rounds to go after this one to reach European football's promised land.
00:25It's 2-0 up, walking out into the searing Athens heat will be as much a test of endurance as the battle to hold on to or build on the advantage those goals from Curtis and Kusama have given them.
00:42The hosts then, first up, Greece international Georgios Fadjanidis is suspended after his sending off at Ibrox, but apart from that it's the same team that started that game.
00:53Giannis Kotsiras replaces him in the side, the captain for this Iannidis leading the line, scored 11 times last season and like team-mate Bacassetas will likely come up against Scotland in World Cup qualifying in the autumn.
01:10Can't eye out for former Manchester United winger Pellistri who's played in all of Uruguay's qualifiers for next summer's tournament.
01:17The officials are from Italy, 37-year-old Simone Sosa from Milan is in the middle, with Valerio Marini on VAR.
01:32Match official reffed at the under 21 Euros during the summer, it's the first time he's taken charge of a game involving a side from Scotland.
01:42As far as Rangers are concerned, Russell Martin sends out the same 11, despite the impressive cameo from goalscorer Kusama.
01:53Young Curtis got the first and is keen to stay in the side long term.
01:58James Tavernier starting his 11th season at the club, but Joe Rothwell looking to build on a solid start to his Rangers career last week.
02:05Danilo leads the line, Dessers is on the bench, Igaman hasn't travelled.
02:10And an injury is reportedly the reason, albeit there seems to be plenty of interest, primarily from France, in Hamza Igaman.
02:26And it could end up being a long battle this evening, extra time and penalties if required.
02:48Rangers with the cushion.
02:54And it might be much bigger, but Rangers perhaps happier to be playing here rather than Panathinaikos' actual home stadium.
03:03The smaller but intimidating, the Euphoros Alexandras, which is five miles from here, is undergoing major redevelopment and won't be ready until next year.
03:13But it has allowed them to sell more tickets, slower 40,000 apparently will be inside the stadium this evening.
03:2121 years, almost exactly since it helped host the Summer Olympics in this city.
03:29And it has came on in Athens.
03:36The start Rangers made last week was brilliant.
03:40They will hope that they don't live to regret not scoring that third goal against the ten men.
03:47The winners will face Cervet or Victoria Pilsen in qualifying round three.
03:52The losers dropping into the same stage of the Europa League, where they will take on the winners of the tie between Vysiktas of Turkey or Shakhtar Donetsk of Ukraine.
04:04Staying in the Champions League looks the simpler of those options.
04:08And it would also guarantee at least Europa League football all the way through to the end of January.
04:13The prize is there, and Rangers looking to make an impression early on in proceedings.
04:21The Diamante's pass goes awry and it goes astray.
04:25Stephen Thompson, Rangers have it in the palm of their hand right now.
04:28Can we get the job done here?
04:30Well, yeah, you're right, Liam.
04:31I mean, they've put themselves in a brilliant position going into this game.
04:34It will be very tough here.
04:36But the heat is intense inside this stadium.
04:40Very, very humid.
04:41And you expect Panathinaikos to come right after Rangers early in this game.
04:45They'll be aggressive.
04:46They know what they need to do.
04:47The Rangers needs to keep cool heads and keep the ball, especially in this heat.
04:51You do not want to be chasing shadows out there.
04:54Here goes Diamante.
04:59One of the bright lights in Rangers season last term.
05:03He and Raskin forging a decent partnership in the middle.
05:08Joined now by new signing Rothwell.
05:12There's another one in Max Ahrens.
05:15Giving away, though.
05:17How costly is that going to be?
05:18Palmer Brown, the big American, sent a bat and decided to go for glory himself.
05:24I'm sure his manager, Rui Vitoria, is too impressed with that.
05:29He's probably got the right idea.
05:30I mean, it opened up for him, but I wouldn't lay him.
05:33The pass into Danilo, he's got to be stronger.
05:35He's got a big job tonight linking the play.
05:37But everybody just seemed to back off and back off.
05:40Eventually Suter goes to him.
05:42It's the one thing in his mind, but it's wild.
05:44It's wild.
05:46The big man from Ohio saw the headlights.
05:49And the one thing Rangers will be very keen to avoid is conceding an early goal,
05:59because that changes the complexion of the tie completely.
06:03Yeah, you're right, Liam.
06:05It'll get this crowd.
06:06And I know you're saying it's not quite as partisan as the other stadium,
06:09but there's certainly a lot of noise in here, as you said, 40,000 fans.
06:12You want to try and keep them quiet as long as possible.
06:14First corner.
06:22First to Panathinaikos.
06:24It's a baptism of fire for Russell Martin, that's for sure.
06:28Plunged, sweet, into these massive matches in Rangers season.
06:33Just after the starting gun was fired on their campaign.
06:45Some defending here.
06:50Mattel will take a new chances.
06:53Yeah, he maybe should have been given a shout.
06:55There was nobody behind him.
06:56But you're right in that situation.
06:59If you don't go, get it away.
07:01But another corner to defend early on in this game.
07:09Tassels back a set-up side to take the set play from this side.
07:19It's very deep.
07:20Could be a foul shooter.
07:26He doesn't think so.
07:29Swung back in.
07:30It wasn't too far off.
07:32Ianides.
07:33It's a fabulous whipped ball in.
07:38Ian Paulus was continually doing this last week.
07:42You're right.
07:44Brilliant ball in it.
07:45I definitely think it should have been a foul on Dill before it.
07:48Rangers really stretched out.
07:50Just inches away from Ianides getting his head on it.
07:55Against it early on here, the visitors.
08:01Here's the Paulus again.
08:06Fired.
08:07Back across.
08:08And then...
08:10Distance.
08:11The Panath and Icos supporters are all holding their head in their hands.
08:15Not the only ones.
08:17Blackisetas let fly.
08:19They're just really under pressure here in these opening minutes.
08:22He just snatches it into the ground.
08:24It sat up perfectly for him as well.
08:26Back is setters.
08:28But he just, as you see, screws it into the goal.
08:31He just can't get out.
08:32You have to think this is something that Russell Martin would have anticipated.
08:43And the message across to his players that Panath and Icos would come after them early on.
08:49And that's exactly what's happened.
08:51It's about weather on that early storm.
08:53Liam, making sure you don't concede.
08:57Try and build your way into the game.
08:58I can't see if I wasn't giving up on that.
09:07It's probably a night to conserve energy.
09:11I would say so.
09:11Temperatures here in the tail end of last week were hitting 40-41 Celsius.
09:23It's only dropped by 5 or 6 since then.
09:26Darkness has fallen in Athens.
09:28It's still north of 30.
09:30It's still going to get it back to Ioannidis.
09:34Kept it in as well.
09:37Butlin called into action.
09:39He made some really important saves in the first leg.
09:44Slicing Rangers open.
09:47Yeah, it was good football from Panath and Icos.
09:49Just wonder whether or not he picked the right option when he got there.
09:53Very, very tight angle if he was trying the shot.
10:00You'll probably find you'll see a lot of the two Serbians in the Panath and Icos team on the ball tonight.
10:09Jurecic wearing 31 at the left and Maksimovic.
10:17Serbia.
10:19Anti-nationalists.
10:26It's a lovely fight from Jurecic.
10:28To score from that angle, it's going to be difficult.
10:34He should have looked for the cutback from Rational and he was really one paper into the box for him.
10:43Tough going for Rangers this.
10:48Last of the wrong options again here to Jurecic.
10:50This time it is a free kick.
10:52I'd say that's less of a free kick than the one that he didn't give on, Kieran Dill.
10:59But Rangers will be really happy to just take a wee breather, take the sting out of the game.
11:03Yeah, it's a foul.
11:07It's been a strong start, as you said, from Panath and Icos.
11:10Nothing that we didn't expect.
11:12As long as it stays at 0-0, Rangers will be delighted.
11:15Against the 20-time Greek champions tonight, but they've not won the title in this country since 2010.
11:29Primarily to let them the shadow of their hated rivals, Olympiacos, who Rangers faced in the Europa League last season.
11:39It's been a good competition for them over the last three, four years, Liam.
12:05This is where the money and the prestige is, though, isn't it?
12:07Yeah, it's where you want to be playing.
12:09There's no doubt about it.
12:10Very difficult pathway to get there, though, as we've seen tonight.
12:16They've managed to navigate their way through this game.
12:19Another tough tie, and then the play-off round, so it's not easy.
12:22They've come around very quickly, no matter which competition the Rangers finish the night in.
12:36First leg, third qualifying round this next week.
12:43And that will be at home first.
12:46Regardless of which of the two they end up in.
12:51This is John's best innocent face look there at the referee.
13:15He does look innocent, I tell you.
13:19What a night for him as well.
13:20What experience.
13:22European football away from home in a big stage, big stadium like this.
13:27Invaluable for his development.
13:29One of the league had obviously got the goal.
13:31First goal at Ibricks last week.
13:34A moment to treasure for the young man.
13:36Brilliant to see him in the team, get this opportunity.
13:39Another corner coming up here.
13:41Panathinaikos.
13:42Panathinaikos.
13:44It's beyond the ten minute mark.
13:52And this is where they need to be so concentrated.
13:58From Bacassetas.
14:01Maniakopoulos keeping it alive.
14:06It's John Setter clearing.
14:08It's again playing in his slightly more unnatural position on the left of the centre of defence.
14:19Suta.
14:20From the day to Giga.
14:23As ever that was.
14:25Suta mistimed that.
14:26And there's a roar for Handball.
14:28And in unison.
14:34Panathinaikos support.
14:36There's a howling for the penalty.
14:38Well, they'll look at it.
14:40But you have to say the initial header is really, really poor.
14:44And Suga.
14:46It's his team under massive pressure.
14:48And the referees waved away the appeal here.
14:53Yeah.
14:54It's not bad.
14:54It's not bad.
14:54But you have to say the uphill.
15:07Now that I have to say it's right.
15:09Why are you here?
15:14You have to say it.
15:15That's all that avenue.
15:18Yes.
15:18Anything you have to say.
15:20I don't know.
15:21You have to say it's right there.
15:21That's a good play by Maksimovic, Kerynopoulos, he's dug out another good ball,
15:36Butlin's got his gloves on at this time though.
15:38Getting though, Rangers forcing passes into tight areas, Danilo taking his touch,
15:43he does the initial bit well, gets the spin, but in a slack pass,
15:47we saw a lot of that in the first half last week.
15:50A chance for Rangers on the counter here though, Raskin decided to go himself,
16:00still he has it, the Belgian international, but it's in the hands of a grateful Dragovski,
16:06the Poland international.
16:08It's good defending from Palmer Brown, you've got to say, he stood up really well,
16:11to Raskin try to make a wee shimmy and get a shot away, that's when Rangers are going to be the most dangerous tonight,
16:17obviously Panathinaikos having to overcommit and put bodies forward as they try to get back into the game,
16:22and on the counter-attack, this is where Rangers should find joy, they've certainly been good in the Europa League,
16:27certainly last season on their counter-attack, very very good indeed.
16:31Well, most notably that night in Istanbul, they beat Fenerbahce.
16:40Should have decided to leave that.
16:43Aarind is in big trouble now, and Rangers could be in big trouble, and Portland comes out.
16:48Well, it's a massive let-off.
16:56It's Pellistri driving down that right-hand side, and the misunderstanding between Suter and Aarinds was almost so costly.
17:04Yeah, I mean, you can look at Suter, but I think Aarinds has got to do it a lot better than he does.
17:09It's great pressure, great pressing from Pellistri, he's one-on-one with Butland,
17:13and you have to say that is a big, big save.
17:17Three occasions in the opening half, last week at Ibricks, Jack Butland popped up with big saves,
17:23and that was very, very important, but that's a couple of wee defensive errors in the last five minutes from Rangers.
17:30Lucky not to be punished, can't keep doing that.
17:35Joe Rothwell might even be his first touch of the ball, I can't remember seeing him on it before now, almost 15 in.
17:43Jack Butland was, of course, dropped by Barry Ferguson, giving his interim spell in charge, Liam Kelly came in.
18:07Came after the Fenerbahce game, because there was Portland Heroics in the penalty shootout that night.
18:16Yeah, that's right, I mean, he had a couple of fairly high-profile errors that led to goals, Liam, his confidence was probably down.
18:22But you cannot deny that he is a top goalkeeper, and he's proved it there again for Rangers, keeping them nil-nil on this tie.
18:32Rangers just counting the clock down, 15 in, but they have been under severe pressure.
18:36But there might have been a foul there by Waskin and Chirivea in the Spaniard.
18:46A little inch-ten of this Panathinaikos team.
18:49Good ball by Taggart here, Daryl.
18:58Good ball by Taggart here, Daryl.
18:59Good fight, you know, for me.
19:02A lot of Rothwell and the opportunity.
19:05Could be a big signing for Rangers, Joe Rothwell, he's an eye for Bournemouth.
19:18A few years there.
19:20Last week was my first time seeing him.
19:22Liam, in a good game, very, very steady, kept the ball well, looked very composed in the middle of the pitch for Rangers.
19:35The ball bounced over at Waskin.
19:48Makasimovic.
19:54See that's for the cross.
19:59And Chirivea.
20:05Like I said, that's popping it to the edge of the area.
20:16Trying to burrow his way through there is Ionidas.
20:19Kiriakopoulos.
20:22It's a comfortable enough save in the end for Jack Butland.
20:28But they are continuing to press this Rangers defence.
20:33Yeah, it's all a bit untidy from Rangers, really, isn't it?
20:36When it eventually breaks out to Kiriakopoulos.
20:39Again, he doesn't quite fully get behind the shot.
20:42Got the direction, but he did not get the power.
20:45The field was a wee bit of an inevitability about what's happening here to Rangers.
20:51Under severe pressure, that's two or three big saves already from Jack Butland.
20:56All right, that one was comfortable, but he's been made to work.
20:58That's one of the new sign-ins there, Ahmed Touba.
21:12That's the only play in the 15 days' incident.
21:15Heade and Spall.
21:30D fiction you'll see if he's been on the periphery of things up to this point.
21:37This is OK for Rangers, they're keeping the ball.
21:49Yeah, don't mind it, Liam. Let them do a bit of chasing for once in the game.
21:54Diamonde wanted the free kick, he's never coming.
21:59Doula wants it back anyway. They didn't like the challenge on Djuricic.
22:05Rough well. There's Dalot. There's Diamonde. To it by Tuva.
22:23It's a decent big flick from Kieran Dill. Diamonde with a run in behind.
22:29Something they didn't do enough last week was penetrate in behind.
22:33The Rangers. A lot of play in front of Panathinaikos but tonight they're not in any real rush to be doing that with a 2-0 lead.
22:43Just keep the ball and as you said a couple of minutes ago, there's no harm in just keeping it.
22:47Let Panathinaikos come on to them.
22:51It's time of year's throw, it's Diamonde.
22:59They need to be very careful there.
23:03This is an oasis of calm. Just these last couple of minutes with the visitors protecting this 2-0 lead and aggregate.
23:21It's time of time.
23:23It's time of time.
23:25It's time of time.
23:27Let's play with Tasseles Pakasetas.
23:33Options in the middle.
23:45Ioannidis is one of them and his header is straight at Portland.
23:49They're living a charm life at times, our Rangers here.
23:55Well the pass in behind is absolutely brilliant.
23:59His movement, Ioannidis is superb getting across John Suter.
24:03Jack Buckland doesn't know too much about it.
24:05Thankfully for him and for Rangers it was pretty much straight at him.
24:09But the movement from Ioannidis is absolutely superb.
24:13As is the quality of the ball in.
24:15Now they join Suter putting him under just enough pressure that he couldn't get any direction on the header.
24:21But the striker player was impressed with him last week.
24:23You can see he's got real quality.
24:25He's the star of the team.
24:27He's the captain.
24:29Low corner from Juricic.
24:31Still an option out there.
24:35Chipped back across the six-yard box and it's Dowell nodding it behind for another corner.
24:42Different type of corner this time from Panathinaikos.
24:47They have been doing out swingers to the back post.
24:49This one goes short and they try and work it in another way.
24:51Keen and Dowell actually does well in the end.
24:54Just getting rid of it.
24:55But how long can they keep defending these corners?
25:00Still not a quarter of the way through this second leg.
25:04Back is at us.
25:14Header by Suter initially.
25:16Nice to repeat the trick there.
25:20Anywhere will do.
25:23Will tab anywhere.
25:24She's delivered to Leicester but it's still in play.
25:37Another corner.
25:39Sort of did well there actually to lead the situation, get across and win the tackle.
25:44I was concerned that he was then out of the box because when it does come in he generally is the one that wins it.
25:50They're two balls down Panathinaikos but they're playing patiently.
25:57They don't look like a team that isn't in control even though they are two down.
26:05It's a long way to go, you may know that.
26:23Eventually after the head tennis, it settles Peter Curtis.
26:26It's just giving away straight away though and then you're back under pressure.
26:30Rangers have got to keep the ball for longer than they have been doing.
26:34Got it back here.
26:35Yeah.
26:36Tavernier.
26:37Tens of millions of times on the line when it comes to the Champions League.
26:55A significant gap in money between the top two competitions.
27:04It's also growing between the Europa League and the Conference League.
27:08That's the problem for Rangers is that they're not guaranteed league-faced football at all in Europe unless they win this tie.
27:17Here's Davo.
27:19Can't get it past the first man who is Kiriakopoulos.
27:32Tavernier.
27:34Here's Davo.
27:35Here's Davo.
27:36Here's Davo.
27:37Here they come again.
27:38Looking for Talistri in the channel.
27:39He has been a thorn.
27:40Works in infield.
27:41The Panathinaikos fans all rise.
27:42Tabakasetas taking the tumble in the box.
27:43Nah, I think the dish doesn't see the recovery run there but from the ball down in that left channel again it has been a problem for Rangers.
27:56Max Aarons is looking a wee bit uncomfortable with the pace of Palestri down there on a number of occasions now.
28:21He's got to do something Liam or else the shot's getting away so he's put him under pressure.
28:27There's not enough in it for the referee to be taking a look at it.
28:35Foul by Aarons.
28:37Panathinaikos have a free kick opportunity this time.
28:42Loaded the box.
28:45Pancasetas waits.
28:51Missed the Scotland games in March in the Nations League through injury.
28:56Managed to put the free kick into the danger area but it's going to be harmless in the end.
29:02Palmer Brown here had that ambitious effort early on.
29:07Can't find the target.
29:08Yeah, the quality of ball in again is very good. Palmer Brown jumps high.
29:13Maybe just a wee bit behind him, he can't quite manipulate his neck to get it on target.
29:18Jack Butlin's down.
29:19As you'll see by yourself in a moment, he's going to get a bit of treatment.
29:29See myself, what a habit to him.
29:33Water break.
29:35Well needed.
29:36Yeah.
29:37Well needed.
29:39But yeah, again, you know, how many times can Rangers, that's a free header, six shots out.
29:46How many times can we get away with that?
29:48It hasn't felt like this, and I don't know if the match statistics are bang on, but Rangers, according to them, are seeing around 59% of the ball.
30:01It does not feel that way.
30:03I find that quite interesting.
30:05You know, it certainly does not feel that way.
30:06Thumbs up.
30:07We think it will be thumbs up for all the Scottish clubs this week in European action, Dundee United and Hibs in their second legs in the Conference League and Europa League respectively tomorrow evening.
30:23United in Luxembourg to Missouna Strassen.
30:28And the Dernian host Mityalon of Denmark.
30:32United 1-0 up.
30:34Hibs at 1-1.
30:37Maybe some night at Easter Road tomorrow.
30:39Full coverage on the radio on BBC Radio Scotland with spoke sound of that.
30:50Another risky manoeuvre.
30:52Giga, who was fortunate not to sell a goal last week just before the Latinidas red card.
30:58And that is always the danger.
31:00Juricic throws it back.
31:02And it's sliced high and wide.
31:05I don't know what Rangers are doing, Liam.
31:07I honestly don't.
31:08Why are they taking these massive risks?
31:10I know it's the way Russell Martin likes to build out from the back, but you've got to do it better.
31:15Not only that, you don't really need to be taking unnecessary risks.
31:19And that, in the end, is the best chance of the match.
31:22And it should be pick a corner.
31:24Just pick a corner.
31:25Get your foot behind it.
31:26He tries to open up and go high into the left-hand corner of Jack Butlin's goal.
31:32It's a sitter.
31:33And again, Rangers get away with one.
31:35But what are they doing there at the back?
31:37You just can't take these risks.
31:38For people, at least you should score.
31:42100% you should score, yeah.
31:43Or at least hit a target.
31:44I mean, a criminal not to hit a target from there, really.
31:47Played in the Champions League.
31:48Promper with Manchester United.
31:51Bought him when he was a teenager for around 9 million.
31:59It's Curtis.
32:00It's Rangers there first corner of the evening.
32:02Yeah, again, it's on the counter attack where they're going to find most of their joy.
32:08Young Curtis being positive, at least, trying to take his man on.
32:12Into the box and wins Rangers a corner.
32:15No hurry to take this on the Rangers.
32:30Joe Rothwell is over it.
32:34The dynamic completely changes if Rangers find their third goal in the tie.
32:42Shooter back across.
32:48Eventually, it's Curtis who puts it wide.
32:53John Stewart does really well initially to put this back into an area.
32:57He's at full stretch amongst two players.
33:01A couple of ricochets and young Curtis falls to him.
33:04He can't quite get his balance to get the short way.
33:07It's actually not a bad opportunity, you know, when you see it like that.
33:09I think he knows it himself.
33:11Should be making better contact with it.
33:16Wouldn't have got much sleep last Tuesday night, wouldn't have thought.
33:18No, I doubt that.
33:25And then the Italian referee...
33:27wants a chat.
33:33It's Kieran Dowell.
33:40He didn't like that one, Signore Sosa.
33:45There was too much in it, to be honest.
33:46Yeah, he just tries to block him off.
33:48But I don't think there was any need for the theatrics on the ground.
33:52Let's get on with it.
33:53Here, Gloucic!
33:54Gailo, Gailo!
33:57Now he's going to win again.
33:59Again.
34:00Mancacetas for Gjuric.
34:03Mancacetas.
34:05They're all wanting a corner here.
34:06Look to a corner.
34:07Look to a corner.
34:08Look to a corner, to be honest with you.
34:11well they're all
34:18working a corner here
34:19looked a corner
34:19again Rangers caught on the ball
34:24that's been happening far far too often
34:26saying I think it was Ranskin
34:28in the middle of the pitch
34:29it's hard to see from here
34:33we are miles away from the pitch
34:35that's quite the moon water
34:37I didn't bring my binoculars with you
34:39I'm waiting on the replays
34:40it's always the same
34:42in these Olympic stadiums
34:44with the running track
34:45and all the way round
34:45yeah it's not ideal
34:51commentary position
34:52thankfully the monitor
34:53is out
34:54it's not a bit easy
35:10it's not a bit easy
35:14I don't know if I can't get in there
35:17it's not either
35:33That is music to the ears of the Rangers defenders, that, the ref's whistle.
35:58Yeah, no complaints there, definite free kick, it gives Rangers the opportunity to take
36:09the sting out of it, I think they have been under a wee bit of pressure again in these
36:11last couple of minutes, let's see if we can string a few passes together.
36:15It's a big season for Danilo, he's not been without his injury problems, an eye for big bucks.
36:40Yeah, he's had a terrible time of it, even though he was, couldn't get a run in the team
36:46to get his sharpest levels up, whether or not he's going to play or whether or not he's
36:50going to be Rangers main striker for the season remains to be seen, I would doubt it, I think
36:55that's something that Rangers might be in the market for, but obviously you need to wait
36:58and see what's happening with Dessels and what's happening with Egemann as well.
37:05he's got the free kick, that's the latest.
37:12He's bought it, he's bought it, it's clever playing from him, initially shows great upper body strength,
37:30can't see if Tammy Debbia's in it Connor, he's like throwing himself to the ground,
37:38clever play for the striker, another cross to defend.
37:45It's as good as a corner, it's free kick.
38:00And Paul is with it, and it's another armless over the bar near Eides this time.
38:12In the first half at Eidrox last week Panathinaikos had a host of opportunities.
38:15They did, Liam, yeah. Rangers started the game quite well, first five to ten minutes,
38:21and then Panathinaikos really came into it, and as I mentioned earlier,
38:24Jack Barlow had to make a string of decent saves, they were the better team.
38:29Obviously they send them off in the second half, changes the complexion of the game.
38:34Russell Martin's frustrated there, but it looked a clear foul by Diamande.
38:38Not sure there's that much in there either, Liam, but foul it is.
38:50Should we keep us? Yes.
38:55It's a happy accident for the Rangers, Danilo.
39:06They're not making it stick for any length of time, although it remains 0-0.
39:10But they've not been punished yet for it.
39:12And we're going into the final ten minutes? Yeah.
39:14The first half? Yeah, I mean they've had to defend right through with this first half.
39:20A lot of crosses, probably been two chances that Panathinaikos will look at
39:24and think that they should have done a lot better with.
39:26Obviously the Jack Buttman save from the one-on-one, then the header at the near post,
39:29but that one, after the really sloppy bit of play from Rangers.
39:35Such a let-off, such a let-off for them.
39:39Not done, but Ian, he just didn't pay off the edge of the box there.
39:43Off well.
39:48And the Rangers free kick.
39:55Kind of counting the minutes and seconds down to half-time here.
40:00Max Irons looks like a wee bit of discomfort here, hopefully he's okay.
40:07He's setting up now.
40:09Yeah, he's in a tough half down that left-hand side.
40:16Neither him or Jones Tavernier have managed to get into advanced areas.
40:21Too much in the game, or hardly in this opening 45, but when you're 2-0 up then
40:28I suppose you don't really need to do that.
40:30They have been forced back, I mean, been asked to defend right through this.
40:35First half.
40:36Yeah, offside flags, but that's a cheap one.
40:45Look at that.
40:46He's went up, out, with your picture, but Harry Denaikos got the ball back anyways,
40:52so the ref waved on from the advantage.
40:55Danilo.
41:12Asking to Curtis.
41:15Danilo, Darrell, Diamonde all waiting in the middle now as well.
41:19They will absolutely settle for that, their second corner this first half.
41:26He had options, the young man in the middle, four in the box there.
41:30Max probably thinking of his goal last week, slightly further out when he cut in
41:34from that left-hand side and hit his right-foot shot into the bottom corner.
41:38Trying something similar there, but might have been better looking,
41:41taking a wee look into the box.
41:49Rothwell then.
41:54There's Raskin who rows there on the six-yard line.
42:03Tell you what, he jumps well for not being the biggest.
42:06Get the jump!
42:08Get the jump!
42:10Get the jump!
42:11Get the jump!
42:12Get the jump!
42:13Get the jump!
42:14Get the jump!
42:15Get the jump!
42:16Get the jump!
42:17Get the jump!
42:18Get the jump!
42:20Get the jump!
42:21Get the jump!
42:22Get the jump!
42:23Get a jump!
42:27The Rangers can get in goal-less at half-time, Russel Martin, Vitie delighted!
42:30100%, especially with the pressure they've been under.
42:33The Rangers can get in goalless at half-time, Russell Martin will be delighted.
42:39100%, especially with the pressure they've been under.
42:48Tannini has found Diamande.
42:58Slack from the hosts this time.
43:03The Rangers have generally found ways to win ties over two legs in recent years.
43:24They run to the Europa League final in 22.
43:28Been in Greece to play Panathinaikos before a couple of times.
43:32Nacho Novo scored in 2008 to help them on their way to the UEFA Cup final that season.
43:39And that's Slack from Rothwell this time.
43:42It is Juricic.
43:44Forced wide by Giga.
43:47Tiamondi skankers away with it.
43:56Nacho Polis did well.
43:58Both teams contriving to give it away.
44:02Yeah, Rodwell this time just taking an extra touch, getting it micked off.
44:10They've been good at that in the press.
44:12They're all over them, aren't they?
44:14Yeah.
44:15Yeah.
44:16In the end, actually, Giga does quite well to defend the situation.
44:21They've been good at that.
44:22I think we have a fast forward for him.
44:33which was the UEFA Cup games, they also clashed in the Champions League proper in 2003 under Alec MacLeish.
44:52A draw out here, Emerson scoring the Rangers' goal, they were beaten 3-1 in Ibrox, despite Michael Moles giving them the lead.
45:15But crucially, this season, first win over Panathinaikos, deep in the first half of the second leg, still has them in the box seat.
45:33Just keep the ball, minutes away from getting in at half time, half of the job done.
45:42That Servette kills in game, kicks off in about 15 minutes' time.
45:54In Geneva, Servette 1-0 up. The winners of that play the winners of this.
46:04Roti ball out from Dragowski there.
46:20Roti ball out from Dragowski there.
46:32Zlucic has gone down, holding his ankle.
46:38I don't know why.
46:42There's nothing wrong with him, he's only wasting his own time.
46:46He's the team that are 2-0 down.
46:48Yeah, back on his feet.
46:50That's it.
46:53Suter, slightly out of position there.
47:08The earnings goes down, and the free kick is given.
47:10Yeah, looks fairly obvious, the nudge in the back, first ball over the top, the suitor was slightly out of position, he covered the situation reasonably well, clear barge in the back.
47:23Not only have Panathinaikos had to watch primarily Olympiacos win all those league titles, they also had to sit back and watch them become the first Greek club to win a European trophy when they picked up the conference league title season before last.
47:48Yeah, they're not big fans of each other in these parts, are they? Far from it.
47:53There are many football clubs in this city, AEK and others who have profited from the barren years for Panathinaikos.
48:14Saw AEK beat Celtic in this very stadium in Champions League qualifying.
48:18I can't see if Edis is involved in just a little bit of frustration from the Panathinaikos players because they will have thought as we go into stoppage time that they would have managed to find a lead by now, at least be 1-0 up.
48:36Yeah, he doesn't touch Tavernier there. Tavernier being quite clever, he better play acting. I can't understand why he's frustrated with that.
48:42I can't understand why he's frustrated with that.
48:46Two minutes added.
48:47These last five minutes have been slightly better from Rangers in terms of keeping the ball a wee bit better than Panathinaikos.
48:51Panathinaikos maybe just haven't gone out of a wee bit of steam towards the end of his first half.
48:58It just takes one second, one goal. This place will are up. The Panathinaikos have done well to not concede in that first half given the pressure that they had to sustain.
49:10Storms and Rothwell and Bacacetas are still pole axed.
49:35This is why you sometimes hear people within football, whether it's managers or players, talk about 2-0 being a funny lead.
49:44That's a very one, yeah.
49:45Because one goal completely changes it.
49:48100%, especially.
49:49Maybe it comes five minutes from time.
49:50Yeah. Oh yeah.
49:52Well, you can guarantee that Lomaid Dragovski will be hoping that this doesn't lead to a Rangers opener.
50:04It wasn't the one of his best pass back, but it's still a bit doing better than that.
50:13What a team to score this would be for Rangers.
50:20Northwell fighting a teammate.
50:22What a team to score.
50:25What a team to score for Rangers at the first time!
50:26Back by Kiriakopoulos.
50:29They've got a problem here because it's police straight.
50:32He's got paste there, Baron he's been chopped down by Darrell.
50:37do that a lot earlier
50:39in that move
50:40and he is yellow carded
50:43for his troubles
50:44yeah he did, he tried it just as
50:46he was taking off at first time
50:48there's no doubt that's yellow card
50:50he was never catching him
50:51he's taking one for the team
50:53although
50:55they'll put him in a position where they've got to defend this cross
50:58into the last seconds of the
51:00first half
51:02it's at some pace
51:03the scene of
51:06Justin Gatlin's
51:08100 metres gold medal in 2004
51:11knowledge there
51:12bronze in the 200 as well
51:15he won the high jump
51:20tell you at half time
51:23cheers
51:23and Dudicic
51:28and Bakacetas over this
51:30this will be the last opportunity
51:32for Panathinaikos
51:33Rangers trying to weather the stop
51:36and the edge of the box is rifled
51:40high over the bar
51:42and that is it
51:46for the first half of the second leg
51:49they've managed to get to the interval
51:52without conceding
51:54despite a couple of hairy moments
51:57Jack Buckland with a couple of saves
51:59and it's those two goals from
52:02Curtis and Kusama
52:04in Glasgow last week
52:06that continues
52:08to be the main story
52:10of this tale
52:12and you can see the frustrations
52:14from the Panathinaikos players boiling over there
52:16Bakacetas having a go at Joe Rothwell
52:19the Italian referee
52:21telling the players to get up the tunnel
52:22the Anidas continues to complain
52:25and Buckland's been the hero
52:27there's been a couple of errors
52:28from Rangers at the back
52:30but they have survived
52:32and it's a couple of corners
52:34up the other end themselves
52:35but
52:35attacking forays
52:37from them
52:37have been few and far between
52:39at half time
52:40in the Eternal City
52:42it is Panathinaikos nil
52:44Rangers nil
52:44with Rangers still leading 2-0
