00:00While filming the pick-up movie, Eddie Murphy said he doesn't feel the need to guide co-stars Keke Palmer and Pat Davidson.
00:09He believes they are top young entertainers who learn best through observation.
00:14It's one thing for a person to sit you down and tell you this is what you need to do and that's what you need to do.
00:19And then they go off and do some other shit.
00:23So, you know, it's like, oh, so it goes out of what they said goes out of the window.
00:28You know, so for the most part, the way we learn is from watching.
00:32You watch, if you admire somebody, you watch what they do and how they do stuff, not so much what they say.
00:39Don't do anything stupid.
00:40Although Murphy recognizes his contribution to improving opportunities for black entertainers in the industry,
00:47he admits that he doesn't often dwell on that aspect.
00:50I'm aware of the, you know, that, you know, I have a hand in all the stuff that's going on now.
01:01My movies, I'm aware that my movies pioneered stuff and opened up some doors.
01:06But I don't sit around tripping about it.
01:10The film, directed by Tim Story, centers around two armored car drivers, played by Davidson and Murphy,
01:17who find themselves ambushed by a group of merciless criminals.
01:21See stereotypes every now and then.
01:23You would see them in the 70s and stuff.
01:24But people don't do stereotypical stuff, man.
01:27Like, think about the last 20 years.
01:30Who wants to even see a movie about some, with some stereo, stereotypical characters?
01:38What's the shit they always talk about?
01:40Keep it real.
01:40We have 25 years of keeping it real and being real and all that.
01:44You really see that's reflected in the movies that they made.
01:46The characters are trying to be reflective of, you know, people in society.
01:52The stereotype shit, especially some stereotype shit that's successful, that's gone.
02:00I ain't seen no shit that's stereotypical, that was successful since the 70s.
02:05Murphy's influence is evident with co-star KK Palmer and other young black actors achieving success in Hollywood today.
02:13The pick-up is set to premiere on August 6th on Amazon Prime Video.
