00:00Now. Now. I live in the moment.
00:03I love this music, don't you? You can tell my age.
00:11Hi.
00:12Thank you so much for your time. I appreciate you.
00:14Hey, welcome to London, a place I know you've been many times before.
00:18Yeah.
00:19And you've been across our films, our television in the UK specifically for a while.
00:23Can you share some of your favorite UK memories with me across your career?
00:27A broad question, I know, I'm sorry.
00:29Now. Now. I live in the moment.
00:32You know, I'm really excited about being here now.
00:34But yes, I think London was one of the first places I ever went to outside of L.A.
00:40My first plane ride was to Los Angeles.
00:42And I remember we came here with Baywatch.
00:46And that was my first real crazy experience of paparazzi falling backwards down escalators.
00:52Yeah, that was a good memory.
00:54We're going to try and find those pictures.
00:55And finally, what was the thing that made you say yes to this reboot for The Naked Gun specifically?
00:59What was the component that you needed to hear to say yes?
01:01Well, I auditioned, you know?
01:03So I was really excited about doing singing.
01:06I like to try things. I like to challenge myself.
01:09And I really was happy to do comedy after I did The Last Showgirl.
01:12So this was the next film I did.
01:13And I just had a ball. I had so much fun.
01:15And Liam's fantastic.
01:17And I want to work with great actors and great directors.
01:20And this is one of those things that I was just so honored to be able to do.
01:25You nailed it. Thank you so much for your time.
01:26Thank you. Thank you.
01:27Congratulations on The Naked Gun.
01:32It's something that I feel like you threw yourself into wholeheartedly.
01:35What's something that you were asked to do on film for this,
01:37which you never saw yourself doing on screen for audiences?
01:41Doing a threesome with a snowman?
01:46What's that?
01:48I don't want to spoil it for years.
01:51Obviously, this lapsed the humorous fight in the 1980s, bringing it back to 2025.
01:56Do you think it will bring people a sense of escapism in 2025?
02:00I hope so.
02:01Look, we could do with a few more giggles, right?
02:04Let's be honest.
02:06And there's a few giggles.
02:10A couple of ballet laughs.
02:12We need it.
02:14We need it.
02:16Thank you so much.
02:20It's not an ego thing.
02:21I want whatever is the best for the film.
02:23It really comes down to Akiva Sheffer, our director, and our co-writer.
02:27Me and Dan Greger, my writing partner, and Akiva wrote this together.
02:30And then Akiva is such a wonderful director, and he's like, best idea wins.
02:36So if someone says something in the moment that's great, great.
02:41I'm a big believer in that.
02:43And Liam and Pam and everyone brought their own little twist on things that you could not have predicted.
02:49But yeah, we wrote so many jokes for this movie, and we had piles and piles, hundreds of pages of alternate jokes.
02:59And they were all so game to try them.
03:01So every joke you've seen, we tried three or four at the least of them, of different versions.
03:07I'm so glad to hear you speak so glowingly of Akiva, because I'm listening to the Lonely Island podcast, Quaid Army.
03:13Phenomenal listen, isn't it?
03:14I appreciate him so much more as a director because, you know, the Lonely Islands, he did so many of those directions back in the day.
03:21Is there any, a touch of Lonely Island and the Naked Gun, do you think?
03:24Is there any Lonely Island and the Naked Gun?
03:26You know what I mean?
03:27Like that kind of spirit?
03:28Look, there's a, I mean, Akiva is in this version of, this version of the Naked Gun, there's Akiva's all over it.
03:33And therefore you have Andy and Yorma also, because they came up doing comedy together.
03:39But yeah, I mean, you can't, Akiva's all over this movie and his comedic voice, which is so amazing.
03:47He's a fantastic director and excellent writer.
03:50And just like, you know, working with him, this is our second movie together.
03:53It's just a dream.
03:54We've gone quite down the middle with the title of this film, The Naked Gun.
03:58Yes.
03:59Are we hoping for a sequel and are we going all out and what the possible titles could be for that film?
04:03Is your mind racing?
04:05My mind is racing, but not with that.
04:07My mind is racing.
04:08I was like, I can't believe we're here.
04:09I can't believe there are people saying my name, which doesn't make any sense.
04:12And I would love to do a sequel.
04:16That would be an absolute dream come true.
04:18And hopefully we can start thinking about really, really dumb titles and maybe you can send us some.
04:24That'd be wonderful.
04:25And finally for me, Liam, we know to be like a fantastic dramatic actor.
04:29Is that why his comedy works so well?
04:31Because of his dry wit and delivery?
04:33I think so.
04:34I think that he, this is something he's wanted to do for a while.
04:36Which is amazing.
04:37Liam is such a gift.
04:38He's the reason this movie exists.
04:41There's no other version to do this than with someone like Liam.
04:44He brings the gravitas.
04:4630 plus years of just goodwill that he's earned by being a genius.
04:51And he's so funny in this movie.
04:54And he got the assignment.
04:55And he just leaned in.
04:57And I think even if you don't love the movie, you're going to love him.
05:02And you're going to love Pam.
05:04Thank you so much for your time.
05:05I appreciate it.
05:07Welcome to a rainy London.
05:08Did you expect anything less from us?
05:09No, I did not.
05:10I love it.
05:11Congratulations on bringing us The Naked Gun.
05:13Because I understand that people have been trying to reboot The Naked Gun for years.
05:16What was the key component, do you think, that got this into existence?
05:19I think it was a triangulation of a perfect actor, a perfect script, and a perfect director.
05:26And of course, yourself, you work closely with Seth on a lot of comedies over the years.
05:30What was it that you wanted to bring to The Naked Gun to make it feel kind of authentic and true to the originals that we all loved?
05:37Well, I think that's two separate things.
05:39One is we didn't want to really change anything about the originals.
05:44They were great movies.
05:45We all loved them.
05:46We all came into this loving them and revering them.
05:49We had an opportunity to make something different, but honor the original.
05:54And I think that's what Liam and the script and Akiva and all of us brought to it, which was a different kind of sensibility 30 years later.
06:03And Pamela is inspired casting, I feel.
06:06Amazing.
06:07How pleased were you that she said yes, and what did she bring to this role in this film, do you think?
06:11She, we were thrilled that she said yes, by the way.
06:14It was the perfect, for us, there was no other choice.
06:17She has the ability to play it straight without giving away that she knows exactly what's going on and still be super sharp.
06:31So there's, and that's not easy to do and she does it effortlessly.
06:36And as a fan, can I ask, what is the current status of Ted the TV series?
06:41Because I love series one, the funniest thing I've seen in so long.
06:44Oh, good.
06:45Is there a live action season two on the way?
06:46What's the current situation?
06:47Yes, we're in post-production on live action Ted season two.
06:50What's it going to be, bigger, better, funnier?
06:51What's what we promised for season two of that?
06:53It's bigger, better, funnier.
06:55Oh, where's Raya?
06:56It's awesome.
06:57Thanks.
06:58We'll be back.
06:59We'll be back.
07:00Thank you so much.
07:01Thanks.
07:02You better, thanks everyone.
07:06Thanks, Dan.
