00:00In other news, the realm of cyberspace has turned gambling in the homeland from menace to scourge,

00:06which has drawn so many kids online to squander their savings, future, and ruin even other lives as a result.

00:13Now the PAOC is stepping in by shutting down certain internet gaming and wagering sites for good,

00:18as we hear more from our Rod Lagusan.

00:22Total ban. This is what the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission or PAOC is pushing for when it comes to online gambling.

00:29According to PAOC Executive Director Undersecretary Gilbert Cruz, many families have been ruined by this vice,

00:35including those of overseas Filipino workers.

00:37He added that they may also push for this to become law in Congress.

00:41We can lobby naman, basing in, taking into reference yung mga naging accomplishments po namin.

00:52So pwede namin sabihin po yun dahil may mga nakita po kami.

00:56The agency also said they are continuing their research on online gambling,

01:01including identifying who is operating legally or illegally.

01:04Once completed, they can then make a recommendations to the President.

01:08I'm against or total ban po yung gusto ko kasi yun po yung nakikita ko,

01:13na-experience po namin.

01:15But ang tingin ko, si Presidente po doon po kapuntay, sa total ban.

01:21He said that based on the complaints they have received regarding online gambling,

01:25it is usually parents or spouses who report the issues.

01:28Cruz emphasized that it is clearly becoming a family problem.

01:32As for who might be behind these operations, besides foreign nationals, some Filipinos are also involved.

01:37They have also received reports that some people fall victim to online lending apps

01:41because of online gambling which lead to harassment.

01:44and compared to Pogo operations.

01:46Nung nagtrabaho kami nung sa Pogo, two years ago,

01:50meron na po kami nakikitang online lending.

01:53So pwede kong magkakagrupo yan eh.

01:56Meanwhile, following the viral photo of a lawmaker watching online sabong on his cellphone,

02:01The incident happened while the House was voting for the House speakership.

02:31for the 20th Congress.
