00:00Nearly two million people were asked to evacuate in Japan after a powerful earthquake in Russia's
00:06Far East triggered tsunami fears across the Pacific Ocean. Around 10,500 of those were
00:12in the island of Alkaido. Authorities urged residents along the country's east coast to
00:17move to higher ground. Japan recorded waves of more than 1.22 meters high detected at
00:23Kuji Point on the mainland. One minor injury, a woman in her 60s who tripped when evacuating
00:29has been recorded. Japan later downgraded its tsunami warning, but earlier warned evacuees
00:35that waves could remain high for at least a day. Tsunami warnings were triggered after
00:41a powerful 8.8 magnitude earthquake was recorded in a remote part of Russia's Far East, sparking
00:47waves to reach across the Pacific Ocean, including parts of Hawaii and the U.S.
