00:00Ivo the engine. There he is, look, coming down into Tlanyoq Station. There's Dye Station waiting for him, looking worried as usual.
00:13Oh, there you are, Ivo. There you are, Jones. I've been wondering where you'd got to.
00:18Oh, oh, we had one or two things to attend to, down by the river.
00:21More fishing, is it? Well, you can forget that for a start. There is an emergency.
00:25Oh, yes. Mrs. Porty has been on the telephone about her new hat that's supposed to be coming from London.
00:32Ordered it special, as she did, for the Church Ladies Guild meeting tomorrow, and it hasn't turned up.
00:37Oh, there's disaster now.
00:38Well, I telephoned Llangobin Depot, and there's a box waiting there.
00:42All right, I, we're off.
00:49And to Llangobin they went, over hills and valleys and bridges, to collect Mrs. Porty's new hat.
00:55But when they came back in the evening, they noticed that the box was addressed to Professor Longfellow, not to Mrs. Porty.
01:03Oh, dear. That isn't Mrs. Porty's hat, after all.
01:07Oh, nothing we can do about it. If Mrs. Porty's new hat hasn't arrived, it hasn't arrived.
01:11She will have to wear one of the hundred other hats she's got.
01:15Oh, it's getting late. Time to go home.
01:16It was nearly dark by the time Jones the Steam had cleared out Ivor's fire and settled him down for the night.
01:23Soon it was night-time everywhere, and the little town of Laniog slept under the sky.
01:29Everybody was asleep.
01:32Well, nearly everybody.
01:34Young Willie Harris at number two station terrace was reading his cowboy book.
01:37Bandits, or...
01:51Thieves!
01:53Are you there, Dye Station?
02:03Oh, Professor Longfellow. Good morning.
02:06Good morning. Jones the Steam said there is a box for me here.
02:09That shall be the new cover for my telescope.
02:11Well, that's right. Where is it?
02:13Where did we put it? It was, um...
02:15It was stolen.
02:17Stolen, Mr. Dye Station.
02:19Stolen? Never.
02:20Bandits!
02:22Come in the night on horses!
02:24Carried it away!
02:25Look, there's hoofprints here.
02:28I see.
02:30Well, in that case, I shall have to ask you all to accompany me to the police house and make statements.
02:35Oh, well, hang on a minute.
02:36Let's have a statement from Ivor, shall we?
02:39Ivor, do you know where Professor Longfellow's telescope cover is?
02:44Good.
02:44Can you show us?
02:45Gentlemen, if you would care to accompany Ivor to, uh, wherever he takes us.
02:52The church hall.
03:02Hmm, that's where the church ladies' guild is meeting.
03:05I expect Mrs. Porter will be inside addressing the meeting.
03:07Now, the subject of my speech today will be personal honesty.
03:13So many of us tend to take lightly the small everyday obligations and observances.
03:21She's wearing it on her head.
03:22We must all remember the commandment.
03:24You could, sir, Professor.
03:25Of course I'm sure.
03:26That is a telescope cover, not a hat.
03:29Mrs. Porty wears some very remarkable hats, sir.
03:32No, that is my new telescope cover.
03:35She has stolen it.
03:36No, that is small, the deed or thought.
03:38It is the cleanness and purity of spirit, the personal knowledge, that even in the face
03:45of temptation, we have not given way.
03:48Constable Gregory, I am making a speech.
03:52I'm very sorry, Mrs. Porty, ma'am, but I'm afraid I have to arrest you.
03:56Arrest me?
03:57For what?
03:58Well, for stealing, as a matter of fact.
04:01Stealing?
04:01That's right.
04:03There's nothing personal, of course, you know, but you did break into the station in
04:06the middle of the night and...
04:08I went down to the station with Bluebell, my donkey, and I collected my new hat.
04:15Well, not quite, Mrs. Porty.
04:16That was a new cover for my telescope.
04:19Oh?
04:21Oh.
04:22Oh.
04:23There.
04:24I thought it was a bit unusual.
04:27Well, Constable, I suppose you'll have to arrest me.
04:31Put on the handcuffs.
04:33Oh, dear me, nor Mrs. Porty.
04:35I...
04:35I couldn't do that.
04:37Not in front of the church ladies' guild?
04:40Of course not.
04:42Nobody would dream of arresting Mrs. Porty.
04:44Oh, dear me, I'm sorry.
