01:08:50We've talked about your hearing disability.

01:08:52But today, I want to talk about Alexis King.

01:08:54I see the look on your face.

01:08:56I know it's Alexis King.

01:08:57But the things he said, the things he has done,

01:09:00it has to hurt you just a little bit.

01:09:03Alexis King, he's just stirring the pot.

01:09:05Contrary to what Alexis believes, I am mostly deaf.

01:09:09I was born with persistent pulmonary hypertension, Vic.

01:09:12You know, I was actually med-flighted immediately to a hospital in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

01:09:16And on that flight, I flatlined twice.

01:09:18So the doctors only gave me a 50% chance to live.

01:09:21And my family, they knew this.

01:09:23And they had to take into consideration that I might not make it.

01:09:26So they had me put on a machine that would keep me alive.

01:09:28Because as my mom said, nothing was working.

01:09:31Now that machine, by the grace of God, when they unplugged it,

01:09:35my heart started working on its own for the very first time.

01:09:38Now that machine was called a ventilator.

01:09:40And that ventilator had radiation.

01:09:42And the radiation, although it's kept me alive,

01:09:45it also took 90% of my bilateral hearing.

01:09:48What exactly does that mean?

01:09:50So basically it means that I lost 90% hearing in both ears, Vic.

01:09:55Well, growing up, it must have been difficult.

01:09:57But it still has to be a struggle to communicate.

01:10:01Communication has never really been my thing, Vic.

01:10:04You know, at a young age, I had to teach myself how to read lips.

01:10:07I didn't start speaking until I was four years old.

01:10:09Now, I won't do this to you.

01:10:11But growing up, I used to grab my parents' face and point them towards me

01:10:14so I could read their lips.

01:10:15And in car rides, I would even have them put the rearview mirror on their faces

01:10:19so that I could understand what they're saying while we're driving.

01:10:21So reading lips is basically like a cheat code for me.

01:10:24It helped me communicate and understand.

01:10:26Lips, hand movement, body language, anything and everything helps.

01:10:30Look, man, you have such a great perspective on everything that you've been through, through life.

01:10:35What did you say, Vic?

01:10:38I'm just messing with you.

01:10:39You see, I choose to have fun with this.

01:10:41That's the way you got to deal with things in life.

01:10:43There's always going to be someone like Alexis King,

01:10:45someone who doesn't get it or don't believe you.
