00:05welcome to ms mojo and today we're counting down our picks for the most notable films
00:10that could have become a series for their lengthy detailed and or sprawling worlds
00:16we can always do better i'm gonna keep trying if you guys keep trying let's keep rocking and rolling
00:22guys number 10 divergent is it just me or are they trying to kill us this franchise might have
00:32started off promising but it quickly went sideways divergent seemed like it was always in the shadow
00:38of the hunger games shailene woodley and company give this futuristic adventure some fun moments
00:45but the story feels cobbled together from a denser book i thought it was intellect i was sensing in
00:50you maybe you're not as smart as you think you are with sequels like allegiance the filmmakers try to
00:55build on the first while being constrained by a traditional runtime the series could have used a
01:00major streaming service and some more time to properly expand everything in one movie they can't
01:06quite develop tris's story her romance and the larger world all at once tomorrow we may have to
01:12fight again but for now we'll ride the train to the end of the line and then
01:20jump number nine killers of the flower moon in what might be a modern classic killers of the
01:25flower moon unveils a tragic american story martin scorsese might have been able to go deeper with a
01:32mini-series he also could have taken a closer look into the osage people letting the character molly
01:38have added moments to shine i think you just pretend to be so severe i bet you i bet you got a soft belly
01:44on the inside there oh you just called me a coyote didn't you echo coyote
01:56coyote wants money it's an impressive feat that the director jam packs the story with so much nuance he has
02:03over three hours but you could easily see him double that with more tense scenes of violence
02:09i'm gonna take you right now i'm gonna buy you a roadster so you can drive around and do this for
02:14me it's gonna take a lot more than a roadster to get me out of the bind on me
02:20leonardo dicaprio lily gladstone and robert de niro give incredible work that would have carried a few
02:26more hours as with any historical subject you could go much further into oklahoma politics or the fbi
02:33investigation yeah it seems to me you need to speak with our justice of the peace i did i visited
02:39with him and he was not very helpful he wasn't well principal chief i visited with him too
02:47they said to come see you number eight gone with the wind margaret mitchell's book received an epic
02:53treatment back in 1939 winning best picture this hollywood film earned praise and scrutiny for
02:59depicting 1860s america a mini series might give filmmakers a chance to tackle other nuances i
03:06apologize again for all my shortcomings mr wilkes perhaps you won't mind if i walk about and look over
03:13your place i seem to be spoiling everybody's brandy and cigars and dreams of victory black characters
03:20could be given further examination while the complicated subject matter could use some more
03:24perspectives scarlet o'hara has multiple husbands with every marriage earning its own potential
03:30episode along with her many relationships the heroine endures notable aspects of the civil war
03:36have you had enough of death and lice and men chopped up well i suppose you weren't meant for
03:42sick men scarlet don't talk me like that red i'm so scared i wish i'd get out of here there could be
03:47more battle scenes or historical events to depict with additional time while modern audiences might not
03:53love another adaptation this work does make you wonder what a series could achieve these don't
03:59belong to a lady you've been working with them like a field hand why did you lie to me and what
04:02are you really up to now red in another minute i'd almost believe you cared something but i do care
04:07suppose we get down to the truth you want something from me and you want it badly enough to put on
04:11quite a show in your velvet number seven titanic 84 years it's okay just try to remember anything
04:18anything at all do you want to hear this or not mr lovett as one of the most infamous events of the
04:25early 20th century the voyage of the titanic demanded countless studies and depictions james
04:31cameron's version takes the plot to new heights as the central romance out over real history open your eyes
04:38a miniseries would let filmmakers take an in-depth look at the construction voyage and sinking of the
04:54ocean liner the movie also only gives you a glimpse of the rescue efforts considering the impact it had
04:59on society the aftermath could receive its own episode the number of films documentaries and books
05:06on the subject would easily fill out the runtime cameron's extraordinary vision would be interesting
05:11on a bigger scale and with ample time to spend with intriguing characters do you know of dr freud
05:17mr ismay his ideas about the male preoccupation with size might be of particular interest to you
05:23number six pulp fiction there are aspects of quentin tarantino's masterpiece that would fit right into
05:29a miniseries first off the competing timelines and stories almost feel like modern tv the larger
05:36format would give him an opportunity to write even more dialogue with great characters i was sitting
05:41there eating my muffin and drinking my coffee and replaying the incident in my head when i had what
05:46alcoholics refer to as a moment of clarity vincent vega and jules winfield could hang even longer or we
05:54could see butchers fight and eventual escape the funny and inventive script is already awesome but
06:00there's also a chance to learn other things about this darkly comedic world do you want to hear my fox
06:05force 5 joke sure except i think i'm still a little too petrified to laugh no you won't laugh because
06:15it's not funny but if you still want to hear it i'll tell it with an extended cut of the hateful eight
06:21on netflix there's a chance that there could have been a bigger pulp fiction there's always lots of
06:26potential with one of hollywood's best writers slash directors at the helm you gotta make some phone
06:32calls you gotta call some people well then do it number five boogie nights paul thomas anderson's
06:39second film is an entire world unto itself examining two decades of excess the ensemble feels like a fully
06:46realized snapshot of the 1970s and 1980s we're going to make film history not here on videotape
06:56mark walberg's hero has a memorable journey from a star to a tragic figure he isn't the only one
07:02either with many other performers stealing the spotlight a longer cut could provide even more
07:08entertainment and a closer look at their work for the shoot i want to talk about the look i want to see
07:12about getting this new zoom ones right i was wondering if we'd be able to look into getting
07:16some more lights do you jack wants a minimal thing yeah well very often minimal means a lot more
07:21photographically i think than well i think most people understand i understand no no hey i know you
07:26understand talking about some other people many awesome montages help you through the story but more
07:32time could let anderson delve into each person as their own separate arc a mini-series could help
07:38celebrate and promote an already classic lineup and riveting plot i've been around this block twice
07:44now i'm looking for something a clue i've been looking for clues and something led me back here
07:53yeah so here i am number four mulholland drive originally set to be a tv show david lynch repurposed
08:01the idea for mulholland drive into a movie the filmmaker's knack for surrealism feels like the perfect
08:07way to tackle hollywood i had a dream about this place oh boy you see what i mean
08:16okay so you had a dream about this place
08:21tell me there's whole sections of this film that could be their own arcs with scenes like the diner
08:27or the cowboy meeting inspiring speculation we don't need more explanation but we'd love to see
08:33where the director could have taken us what do you want me to do there's sometimes a buggy how many
08:41drivers does a buggy have one so let's just say i'm driving this buggy and if you fix your attitude
08:52you can ride along with me the central dynamic between an aspiring actress and an amnesiac also
08:58hooks viewers with all the mystery surrounding it this narrative might have benefited from becoming
09:03more episodic as it stands it's clearly one of the artist's strongest and most acclaimed works
09:10that girl is not in my film
09:15it's not longer your film number three conclave as something of an airport novel this source material
09:21could be considered dramatic and a little sensational it also features the endlessly fascinating world
09:28of vatican politics the inner world of the voting process and potential for drama could make for a fun
09:34mini-series first ballots between 20 and 25 but it is tomorrow night that the real work begins
09:45somehow we'll have to get him a two-thirds majority
09:51by real work you mean what exactly you don't have to grasp at straws to imagine each episode's cliffhanger
09:57with there being ample opportunity for twists the ensemble is a fantastic mix of known and lesser known talent
10:04someone brought that woman here and staged this melodrama she'd never left nigeria before and suddenly
10:10she's here in the casa santa with respect joshua how she came here is secondary to the issue of
10:15your relationship with her in the event of a show conclave could really milk the intrigue with
10:21all of the exciting performers you can also see the potential in giving more time to the eventual
10:26winner needless to say we're excited about other chances for backstabbing and last minute surprises for
10:32the cardinals we will never find a candidate who doesn't have any kind of black mark against them
10:39we're mortal men we serve an ideal we cannot always be ideal number two lawrence of arabia
10:47among the best epics of all time lawrence of arabia feels like several films rolled into one you could
10:53argue that it's halfway to a mini-series with its length and detail if the camels die
10:59we die and in 20 days they will start to die
11:12there's no time to waste then is there the life of t.e lawrence could inspire any number of movies
11:19or shows with many complexities to engage with and question there's also the incredibly difficult
11:24subject matter involving the middle eastern power struggle young men make wars and the virtues of
11:30war are the virtues of young men courage and hope for the future then old men make the peace
11:39and the vices of peace are the vices of old men mistrust and caution it must be so david lean fills out
11:49the desert with both history and engaging battle scenes with added focus and less time constraints
11:55there could be a chance for a deeper plunge into the geopolitical struggle the masterpiece could easily
12:00inspire an evil longer cut with more landscapes and three-dimensional characters to ponder all right
12:06dryden you could have him for six weeks who knows might even make a man of him before we continue be
12:13sure to subscribe to our channel and ring the bell to get notified about our latest videos you have the
12:19option to be notified for occasional videos or all of them if you're on your phone make sure you go into
12:24your settings and switch on notifications number one oppenheimer christopher nolan's biopic about the famed and
12:32controversial physicist is wall-to-wall information he doesn't waste a second without giving you
12:38information about the man his mission or the broader context of the atomic bomb we're theorists
12:45yes we imagine a future and our imaginings horrify us they won't fear it until they understand it the
12:55tight editing keeps the narrative tightly wound but a mini-series might have given him more chances to
13:00explain there are so many characters to introduce throughout this movie that you almost can't
13:05comprehend them in one viewing the fantastic storytelling is great on its own but a show might
13:10help confused viewers algebras like sheet music the important thing isn't can you read music it's
13:17can you hear it can you hear the music robert yes i can you barely have time to breathe for three
13:25hours of extensive scientific research and history nolan seems to prefer film as a medium but there's no
13:31telling what he might get up to with a longer run time is anyone ever going to tell the truth about
13:38what's happening here did we forget another movie worthy of an expanded cut let us know in the comments
13:44below each one of us is given a tapestry our own opera this person and this person thinking about it
