00:00All right, let's get to the latest here in the National Football League.
00:03And this is a side story here, a very tragic story.
00:05Sad stories, by the way, on this edition of Newswire.
00:07I hate to do these, but got to do it.
00:09NFL employee yesterday, seriously injured in a shooting on Monday in Midtown Manhattan.
00:15That is where the NFL offices are.
00:16If you read a little deeper into the story, ABC News is covering it.
00:20It looks like there was, you know, somebody who was just suffering mentally with different issues in his life
00:27and, you know, chose to, you know, make some horrible decisions.
00:31Needless to say, according to these reports, had a note in his shirt saying,
00:37please investigate my brain for CTE.
00:41Very, very sad story here.
00:43It was a football player who was an adolescent many years ago
00:47and then went on to attempt to get into the National Football League.
00:52Needless to say, just a horrible story there.
00:54But it just shows you how difficult it is with these people who have CTE.
00:57But thoughts and prayers, certainly, with anyone involved in that issue.
01:01All right.
01:01Now, the big story in sports did pertain to sports betting yesterday.
01:05Major League Baseball trade deadline is coming up.
01:07And one name that was really heavily discussed was Emmanuel Class A.
01:11If you're unfamiliar, he's the closer on the Cleveland Guardians.
01:13And he's now the second player to be put on administrative leave
01:17while they investigate some allegations of sports wagering claims.
01:21Now, we don't know anything else except for Class A is on leave for approximately a month.
01:26He's known as one of the best closers in baseball and is also making a lot of money.
01:30It's kind of hard to believe that he would be involved in something like this.
01:33But who am I to judge or even determine innocent or guilty?
01:36Let's let Major League Baseball do their investigation.
01:39Luis Ortiz, another pitcher on Cleveland, has been on administrative leave while they look into this as well.
01:44And the Guardians right now can't trade this player.
01:47That's for sure, while they look into this.
01:48Also, a man has been sentenced to prison for stalking Caitlin Clark.
01:52It's a 55-year-old Texas man.
01:55And after 18 months in prison, he's pled guilty.
01:58He's from Denton, Texas.
01:59The name is Michael Lewis.
02:02And he was following Caitlin Clark around and allegedly repeating sending threats and sexual stuff, too.
02:10I mean, just, you know, bad things in general never are going to come out of, always going to come out of this.
02:15So, he's going to be going to prison for a long time.
02:18All right, now let's get to some good news here.
02:19National Football League, we've got a contract extension for Cortland Sutton of the Denver Broncos.
02:24A couple of years ago, they thought Sutton may not be a wide receiver one in the NFL.
02:27Boy, Bo Nix changed that.
02:29Four years, $92 million for Sutton.
02:32And so, he latches on with Denver for the next several years.
02:34A lot of that money, by the way, guaranteed as well.
02:36All right, we've got Cleveland Browns quarterback shuffle.
02:40How many years in a row have we said that?
02:42Forever, basically.
02:43Kenny Pickett got hurt in practice.
02:46Joe Flacco is taking reps as QB1, but we knew that.
02:49But that also could secure Shudor Sanders and Dylan Gabriel on the opening roster if Pickett is out a long period of time.
02:56Third-round draft pick Bernard Raymond has agreed to a four-year, $100 million extension.
03:02He is a very important piece to the Colts' offensive line.
03:05He's their left tackle.
03:06He gets four years and $100 million.
03:09For those of you who watched the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame ceremony on Sunday, you may have noticed that they mentioned Ryan Sandberg, Hall of Famer, at the beginning, and did a little mini tribute to him.
03:22He was obviously very ill.
03:23If you had not known that he was struggling with cancer, he did pass away yesterday.
03:28Very sad story.
03:29One of the great Cubs of all time and Hall of Famer as well.
03:33Craig Council, Cubs manager, after the game, talked about addressing the team on the loss of Rhino.
03:40Well, let's just talk about Rhino.
03:42You know, I just addressed the team and told them the news of Rhino's passing, and, you know, we're saddened of the loss of a great man.
03:55You know, we were lucky as a group this year to have Rhino in spring training, and it was an honor to be around, you know, a man, you know, battling for his life but wanting to come to the baseball park and spend his day with us.
04:13And I know it meant a lot to everybody in there, and, you know, we're grateful that he was, you know, willing to spend that time with us when things weren't going great for him.
04:28So it's a sad day for the Chicago Cubs, and he was a great Cub, and, you know, I'm grateful that we got a chance to get to know him this spring.
04:40On the field, the Milwaukee Brewers did beat the Cubs yesterday, 8-4 the final, and the Brewers back to taking sole possession of the National League Central.
04:51Meanwhile, the Mets played the Padres yesterday.
04:53Mets kind of felt like they got off to a good start.
04:55It did not end well.
04:57The Padres rallied down 5-1, and they walk off New York 7-6.
05:02It's been those sort of battles that have put San Diego square in the playoff picture.
05:06Here's Mike Schilt about those battles after the game.
05:09You know, it's on display almost every night.
05:12It's on display at the end of the road trip, this last 10 days, and then come back home, and it's so nice to be home.
05:19I mean, this ballpark was electric tonight.
05:21This place is special.
05:22So kudos to the prior faithful, and the support that we get, that clearly helps a little bit too, but no doubt.
05:29But this team's got the heart of champions, and, you know, they turn it up.
05:34They don't give in, and that's what competitors do.
05:36They give nothing away regardless of circumstances, and it's a night down, and, yeah, it was a blow.
05:42You know, the grand slam was a blow, and, you know, sometimes you punch, and sometimes you get punched.
05:48But what do you do when you get, you know, you punch back.
05:52It's what you do, and that's what this club does.
05:54And, you know, rising picture on Homer, you know, trying to be able to get on, you know, but then, boom, right back at him.
06:00Manny, Bogey, Jackson, you know, Bryce, here we go again, you know, Diaz.
06:06So it's a team full of guys that have a big heart, a lot of talent, desire to win.
06:11It's a great combination.
06:12The Dodgers seem to be picking up some steam as they head toward August.
06:17We've got Yoshinobu Yamamoto yesterday dominating on the mound, seven innings, one run.
06:22L.A. beat Cincinnati, final score of five.
06:25Shohei Otani did have a two-run double in this game.
06:28Here's manager Dave Roberts on Yamamoto's start.
06:31Well, Dave, just Yoshinobu.
06:32How impressive was he today?
06:34He was fantastic.
06:35It seemed like, you know, I think he obviously he had all of his pitches working tonight.
06:41It seemed like he did a much better job getting ahead of hitters, you know, whether that situational inning with a couple of strikeouts early.
06:52But he seemed like he got better as the game went on, which is a good sign.
06:56And we needed seven innings and, you know, just overall outstanding.
07:02Dalton was saying that after the first inning, they kind of had to change the game plan.
07:05When we talk about just him evolving as a play caller, how have you seen him do just that?
07:11Dalton's been great.
07:12You know, I think that, you know, he's always going to be frustrated with his hitting.
07:15But I really believe that his fingers, the receiving, his relationship with the pitchers is continuing to build and get stronger.
07:22And I just thought he sequenced and was able to kind of, you know, pivot a little bit, like you mentioned, with the game plan.
07:30And just kind of reading and reacting from what the hitters are telling you.
07:34And that's something that, you know, typically young catchers just don't have that ability.
07:39A shoot over to the American League.
07:41The Yankees do not have a great game yesterday.
07:44Neither do the A's.
07:45Mariners beat the A's 3-1.
07:47Yankees' bats go cold yesterday.
07:49Tampa Bay wins that game 4-2.
07:51Twins walk off the Red Sox.
07:53They had a 90-minute delay.
07:55Needless to say, Boston needs every win that they could get.
07:57And how about the Orioles?
07:58Four of them run 16 hits.
08:00Blue Jays are tough to beat.
08:01But they found a way, 11-4.
