00:00Ian Rappaport yesterday tweeted out the Broncos have agreed to terms on a new contract extension for wide receiver Cortland Sutton, sources tell the insiders.
00:07It's a four-year, $92 million deal, the deal done by Milk and Honey Sports.
00:12How about that?
00:13By the way, is your agent Milk and Honey Sports, Joe?
00:16Did I get that right?
00:17Well, it should be.
00:18It should be at this point.
00:20I mean, if you're going to get dudes that kind of price here, I think we ought to get into Milk and Honey.
00:25But I like it.
00:26I like the direction of the Denver Broncos.
00:30I mean, at some point, Kansas City's got to take a step back, right?
00:34I love Bo Nix.
00:35I think right guy in the right coach in the right system.
00:39And now you've got a 29-year-old wide receiver who's an absolute stud and will be your number one target from here on out.
00:46I think it's all good here with Denver.
00:49By the way, you take a look at that.
00:50And again, the price points are always just about how much money they're going to be guaranteed, and there's an escape clause.
00:56But four years, $92 million.
00:57Comes out to $23 million per year.
01:00Like, Terry McLaurin was offered about that deal from the commanders.
01:03He wants into the 30s right now, as he said.
01:06We might be looking at it.
01:07Like, no standoff here, obviously, with Cortland Sutton.
01:09We might be looking at an absolute standoff there in Washington with what Terry McLaurin wants and what they actually want to pay him.
01:14But each and every day, we see guys get paid out here.
01:16And the guys that aren't being paid, they're going to get just a little bit more upset, more on a day-to-day basis.
01:22More NFL talk next.
01:23The 99 Club, people.
01:25Find out what that is.
01:26The 99 Club.
01:28Find out what that is.
01:29By the way, like, before we β the people out there probably know the kids in this market, right?
01:33But the 99 Club is a very big deal in John Madden football, and a couple guys have been named in the 99 Club, like, over the years.
01:40Like, if I go through, Joe, and we can have some fun with this, because we've all been there, you know, in the 1980s.
01:45The late β I think it was, like, the late 1980s.
01:47I remember playing my first edition of, like, John Madden football, and it was, like, revolutionary.
01:51Like, you had the ambulance come out.
01:52It used to run over the players.
01:53Madden was commentating in the background.
01:55You know, something we haven't seen before.
01:56And just that surge between the 80s and the 90s and the 2000s that we have now, it's really become iconic, where you waited at GameStop at 12 midnight, like, in the early 2000s, to get that game.
02:08Everybody played it.
02:09Then the advent of being able to play players online, which turned into a whole commodity where people were just hooked on it, playing 24-7 a day.
02:17Madden football has always been an institution here.
02:20I don't play it anymore.
02:21I wish I did have time to play video games.
02:24Loved Call of Duty throughout the years.
02:25There's, you know, Battlefield, Modern Combat, all that great stuff here.
02:28But Madden has always been a tradition.
02:30It seems like the young kids play it, and all the way people to, like, their 60s are still getting this game and playing it as a big deal.
02:37Yeah, for a lot of years, Adi, it was β just go out and get the new Madden.
02:42Even if you played it once, just go out and get it.
02:45And it started back in the β exactly, the Sega Genesis days, which is what β is how far back it goes.
02:52And then, of course, the PlayStations of the world, and it's just gotten over the top.
02:56But, yeah, it's β you know, some guys have the very first one through the very last one, and I can see it because it's a part of a lot of people's lives.
03:05And it always will be.
03:06By the way, I don't know if we have the graphic that we can show, like the Adam Schefter tweet from yesterday.
03:11I don't know if we have it behind the scenes.
03:12But it put out sort of, like, the Madden images of the players, and it says, like, the 99 club.
03:18And up top, there is β it looks like seven total players, which is Lane Johnson, Lamar Jackson, Jamar Chase, Saquon Barkley, Justin Jefferson, Josh Allen, and Miles Garrett.
03:27But the font is so small for the players that, like, you know who they are, but Saquon Barkley is up front.
03:33And I'm telling you, if you go on β if anybody's watching the television side right now, listening on the radio, if you go and hit the 99 club and look at the Schefter tweet,
03:40how is that supposed to be Saquon Barkley as the front of the picture, Joe?
03:44Like, it looks like just a generic player that cuts off the actual numbers, and you can't tell it's him?
03:49Like, if you put out the 99 club, like, who is that?
03:51Is that β oh, that might be β you know who I actually thought it was at first?
03:53Like, Jalen Carter, defensive tackle, I had no idea it was Saquon Barkley.
03:58Yeah, he shouldn't be making the 99 club at all in any way, shape, or form, by the way, until he actually β
04:04until he gets, you know, Jalen Carter here.
04:07Like, stop it, stop it.
04:08I should not be anywhere on there here.
04:10But that is a pretty good list that they have there, right?
04:14I mean, when you look at some of these guys here with Lamar and then Josh and Barkley and β
04:20I mean, I can't β it's the right β all the right players.
04:24They haven't really missed on this here yet.
04:28So, I can't β there's not any argument I can come up with any of these guys and be like,
04:31there's no way Justin Jefferson or Jamar Chase should be on this.
04:36No argument.
04:36Like, it's β the 90 β like, does that mean you can't tackle them now?
04:39We all love the 99 players.
04:40And also, from that in football, like, it was the first football game or video game
04:44that threw in the weather elements.
04:45Like, every time we played, it was always in the snow.
04:48And you play, you slip and slide all over the field.
04:50It was a lot of fun to have that.
04:51But also, if looking from an odd standpoint here, right?
04:54Lamar Jackson, a plus 430 MVP, rightfully so, a 99.
04:57Josh Allen, 6-1 MVP.
04:59Saquon Barkley, plus 550 price for Offensive Player of the Year.
05:02Jamar Chase, a 9-1 price at Offensive Player of the Year.
05:05Justin Jefferson, 11-1 Offensive Player of the Year.
05:08Miles Garrett, Defensive Player of the Year, plus 750.
05:11And Lane Johnson, 6-9 Pro Bowl.
05:12We don't have those Protector of the Year odds just yet.
05:15So, if we have that graphic up there, right?
05:16If you want to keep it up for one more moment.
05:18Which number would you take for which player?
05:22It's like, you have one bet.
05:23Which bet are you making on that board right there?
05:26I think I would have to go Jefferson.
05:32I really do.
05:32I think because I think that's just going to get the most play.
05:35What is it, 11-1 there with the...
05:38Yes.
05:38I kind of like it.
05:39Yeah, I like Jefferson or Chase.
05:41I think it's going to be a wide receiver.
05:43Yeah, you know, it's a good point you bring up.
05:45I think Chase is going to have a monster season, depending on what we get at Cincinnati defense.
05:49But I'm kind of down right now on Justin Jefferson, Joe.
05:52Like, you get the word out of training camp that he's already bothered with the hamstring here.
05:56It's a new quarterback.
05:57But also, there's added advantages to that.
06:00And hear me out on this.
06:01Because when you have a wide receiver like Justin Jefferson, and you are a de facto rookie quarterback coming in,
06:06let me tell you something after two games.
06:08If that wide receiver thinks he's not getting the football, he is going to make J.J. McCarthy's life absolutely hell right off the bat.
06:16So to overcompensate, who are you throwing to?
06:20Tight end?
06:21Hey, you got a good one.
06:21I understand it.
06:22Another wide receiver?
06:23Yeah, you got a decent one on the other side.
06:25But if Justin Jefferson isn't getting his footballs, Joe, come on now.
06:28He's going to be upset.
06:29Pressure's going to be on.
06:30And coaching matters.
06:32And they got a pretty good offensive one in Minnesota to figure out a way to get him the damn ball.
06:38Put the ball in the hands of your best players.
06:40Get him the damn ball.
06:41Now, we have a graphic that we're going to post on the screen, Kevin.
06:44And I want you to look at this closely.
06:45Because sometimes I just do quick glances at things.
06:48You can't see, really, the names up top of the screen.
06:51So when they flashed it up, I look around.
06:53All of a sudden, I'm like, damn.
06:55Jalen Carter made the 99 club.
06:57How about that?
06:58That's Saquon Barkley in the foreground?
07:01No, it's not.
07:02Like, who did this?
07:04Listen, I will be honest.
07:05I think the Eagle who I initially didn't recognize was Lane Johnson.
07:10I think because in my heart of hearts, Donnie, I think Jordan Mailata maybe deserved that 99 rating a little bit more than Lane.
07:18And maybe that's what was kind of the push and pull there.
07:21But look, Saquon gets top billing, the cover athlete, offensive player of the year.
07:28He deserves all that.
07:29Am I the only one who thought it was noteworthy that the greatest quarterback to ever walk planet Earth couldn't even crack the 99 club because he's been pretty average for the last two regular seasons?
07:40Is he 101, though?
07:41But is he 101, though, not the 99 club?
07:43Yeah.
07:43Yeah, maybe, maybe.
07:45I didn't realize Aaron Rodgers, you thought of him that much.
07:49Let me ask you this here, Kev, if I can.
07:52Who got snubbed on this list?
07:55Like, shouldn't Micah Parsons be there?
07:57Or, I mean, who do you think should have been in this 99 club?
08:01So, I do think it is incredible that they, like, they clearly just want it to be the stars.
08:08And they're like, I guess we need a defensive player.
08:10All right, Miles is really good.
08:12I guess we need an offensive lineman.
08:14Okay, Lane is good.
08:15Like, Pat Sertain's the reigning DPOY.
08:18Again, I love Lane Johnson, but Penny Sewell and Jordan Mailata, arguably Trent Williams, all have an equally as good a case then to be a 99.
08:28I almost, instead of adding, Joe, you probably could make an argument they could have subtracted.
08:35One wide receiver, one quarterback, trim this list down.
08:39Josh Allen didn't need to be there.
08:41And I think Justin Jefferson's better than Jamar Chase, but Chase is coming off the triple crown.
08:46So, JJ could be a 98.
08:47I think they could have maybe been a little more selective with the list.
08:51By the way, take a look at the list here over the years.
08:53Like, Aaron Donald was on there, 2020, 2021, 2022, 23, 24.
08:58And obviously retired in 25.
08:59But you look at some of the other guys on the list.
09:01Like, Mahomes was there 2021, 2022, 24, and 25, who's not on the list now at this point.
09:07Also, this is the largest 99 club that we've seen over the past couple years.
09:12Now, if we look at the graphic that was posted here with the odds, right?
09:15Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Saquon Barkley, Jamar Chase, Justin Jefferson, Miles Garrett, and Lane Johnson, which we don't have odds for here.
09:21Is there one Beck Kevin out of all those?
09:23I asked Joe Renier the same question that you would make in that market of the 99 club.
09:28Um, easily Lane Johnson to make a seventh pro bowl.
09:32Uh, I'll, I'll take those odds if they could.
09:34Well, they are, they are doing this.
09:36Uh, what is it?
09:37Enforcer of the year.
09:38What is that?
09:39That award?
09:39Yeah.
09:39They're giving out protector of the year for the offensive linemen.
09:43So, uh, I, I do wonder if Lane Johnson could maybe get one of those.
09:47Cause you have to wonder how many, uh, how much longer he'll actually be in the race of that mix.
09:53The Lamar one jumps off the page.
09:55Cause it's very Jokic-esque when Embiid won his MVP.
09:58And next year everyone's like, all right, listen, maybe we shouldn't have done that, but we got you next year.
10:03As long as the Ravens are as good as everybody thinks, Lamar is the rightful MVP favorite.
10:08Yeah.
10:08And one of the best things there about Madden, like the 99 club is when you start.
10:11Like I remember growing up, Kevin, where you had players in that game that weren't rated correctly to start the season, but we didn't have internet.
10:18So you weren't getting the updates.
10:19Like, man, this wide receiver is legitimate.
10:21Like Willie Flipper Anderson of the Rams.
10:23Like, man, this guy can play here.
10:24Why is he rated so low?
10:26Exactly.
10:26Dante Storch scored touchdowns opening day against the Houston Texans way back when he was like lined up with the boys in Philadelphia.
10:31Guy was a superstar.
10:32Absolutely.
10:33But yeah, like now we have the internet.
10:34Did these 99s fall back to 98, 97s after week two with a bad performance?
10:39I don't know.
10:40Maybe they do.
10:40Let's talk some more NFL action next with Mr. Kevin Walsh.
10:44Action is hot on the early line.
10:46No doubt about it.
10:46Donnie Wrightside and also Joe Ranieri.
10:48Kevin Walsh joins us here.
10:49And also Kevin Walsh does game time decisions during the week.
10:536.30 start.
10:54We're heading into football season.
10:56Some changes certainly coming along the path.
10:58But some good things to look forward to, Kevin.
11:00What can we look forward to on GTD with the energy this year?
11:05Yeah, it's a great question, DRS.
11:07And, you know, with football season right around the corner, you want to start to ramp things up a little bit.
11:11So tonight we're going to do the first Kevin 7.
11:14It could be, look, we maybe could have done quarter bankings.
11:17It may be futures, best bets, whatever it may be.
11:20Tonight we'll start with seven possible Super Bowl futures.
11:24Because as I went through the Super Bowl odds, there were seven teams that I thought I could see myself ultimately landing on.
11:32And I think it's important to remind people.
11:34It's really important to remind people that last year on game time decisions, the preseason Super Bowl winner was the Philadelphia Eagles.
11:42So I, just like the Eagles, I myself am trying to repeat this year, Donnie and Joe.
11:48So a lot of pressure.
11:50So that's why we're taking a slow approach here and going through seven possible options.
11:55I like that, too.
11:56And don't be afraid, Kevin, to not release this until two to three weeks into the season.
11:59We have all the numbers in place.
12:01Can you hold out for a month and a half?
12:03Because that's the best way to absolutely do it at this point.
12:05You can sit back, relax, get all your ducks in a row and get after it here.
12:08But if we are talking about NFL action, it's on the horizon.
12:11And Thursday night, we do have a football game.
12:14If we are looking at the NFL, and again, not much is going to change from now until we see these teams play in week number one, unless we have catastrophic injuries.
12:22But some of these lines are always bouncing around.
12:24The Ravens now in the top spot, plus 650.
12:26The Bills at 7-1 here.
12:28The Philadelphia Eagles at plus 750.
12:30The Chiefs at 8-1.
12:31The Lions at 10-1.
12:32We see those 50-cent or so moves here on a day-to-day basis, bouncing back and forth.
12:37Is there any momentum for you for a team entering into training camp with the price points that we're seeing now?
12:44Yeah.
12:44Again, there are a few teams who I'll be considering.
12:48The one team that I thought I would, you know, give a little sneak peek and discuss, because it's probably one that people wouldn't think I would be considering.
12:56But it is the Washington Commanders.
12:57And, look, part of that, obviously, being the most unbiased man in the history of sports media, someone has to do it.
13:03But this is a team whose schedule lines up really, really nicely, where I think they have themselves a pretty high floor, which calms some of the concerns about a step back for a team who was so fortunate in a lot of these one-score games.
13:17I think defensively, there's a real chance for this team to take a big-time leap.
13:22I like Dan Quinn a lot as a head coach.
13:25I thought that was a really, really good hire when they made it, especially since they were able to pair him with Cliff Kingsbury.
13:31That secondary has some upside with year two Mike Sandstroll and the rookie that they got in round number two in Trey Amos, who had a lot of round one buzz.
13:40Maybe a full season of Marshawn Lattimore can up things as well.
13:43Bobby Wagner is just going to be forever one of the five best linebackers in football.
13:47So it's a really, really strong back seven, and then you put your eyes on the offense where we try and figure out what kind of step forward could Jaden Daniels actually have.
13:58I think I've spent a lot of this offseason expecting Jaden Daniels to take a step back because of C.J. Stroud, but maybe Jaden Daniels takes a sophomore leap.
14:08That's usually what we expect from quarterbacks, and if that happens with what should be an improved offensive line, Laramie Tunzel comes over from Houston.
14:17They draft Connerly in round number one out of Oregon.
14:20They add in Debo Samuel.
14:22They have to figure out this Terry McLaurin piece of it because if you don't have Terry, all of a sudden the weapons that Daniels is working with is really, really subpar, not much in the running back room.
14:32But I think that Washington is a team who I wasn't expecting to be interested in, guys, but I am legitimately considering.
14:41We also know a new team wins the NFC East every single season somehow, some way, for over two decades.
14:47What do you have more questions with, Kev, going in here?
14:52Because it feels like I can name a lot more of the AFC division winners and who's going to finish first than I can necessarily in the NFC outside of, let's just say, until somebody beats them, Philadelphia is going to win the NFC East, right?
15:09But then after that, where does it go?
15:12I mean, you're more solidified in what you believe is going to happen in the AFC or the NFC?
15:16No, it's such a good question, and I think the tough thing is we know that usually these things change and it's not always the obvious team.
15:27Who's given an AFC East winner other than Buffalo?
15:30I mean, really?
15:31Like, because I don't even think New England's that good.
15:35I don't think they gave Drake May enough on offense.
15:37The schedule's so bad that it's like, okay, they could probably win eight, nine games.
15:41Like, I see why that win total's high, but I'm not picking them to win that division.
15:45You would, realistically, you would probably need Josh Allen, or maybe that's the better way to say it.
15:51You would need one of these elite quarterbacks to miss significant time, and that can start to open things up a little bit.
15:58And that's one of the things I feel like in the last three or so years, people talk about how good the AFC is.
16:05And the AFC has elite quarterback play, no doubt about it.
16:09Arguably the four best quarterbacks in football all are in the AFC.
16:13I think the NFC has way more depth.
16:16You're telling me the Chicago Bears have the longest odds to win the NFC North?
16:20The Chicago Bears would be booked as favorites to win the AFC South.
16:23The Chicago Bears would be the second best team in the AFC East.
16:28And I think the Chicago Bears could be just as good as the Cincinnati Bengals because, I mean, all the issues that Cincinnati had last year on defense,
16:36I think Chicago looks to take a step forward in that direction.
16:39So it's one of those things, Joe.
16:42I think part of that security in the AFC is because they're not as deep as the NFC is.
16:49Let me ask you a question about a team in the NFC right now because over the past couple years, Kevin,
16:54we really weren't questioning that all that much.
16:56Like, usually one of the best rosters in football.
16:59That's the San Francisco 49ers.
17:01Purdy got his money.
17:02And it's apparent that you can't afford everybody once you pay your quarterback 50-plus million dollars.
17:06The defense is a little bit in flux, but wide receiver.
17:09Ayuk, they don't know when he's coming back.
17:11They don't even have a timetable.
17:12Juwan Jennings just got paid, then just got hurt here with a soft tissue injury.
17:15Ricky Pearsall, who knows what we're getting out of.
17:17We're supposed to believe that Christian McCaffrey is still the best running back in the NFL
17:20when at any given moment he can get Achilles tendonitis.
17:23What is the 49ers' prognosis?
17:25I think for San Francisco, if you're going to try and sell yourself on that football team,
17:29you have to remember that Kyle Shanahan has routinely been seen as one of the five best coaches,
17:35at times argued as maybe the second best coach in football.
17:39And whether it's a combination, right, Pearsall, Kittle, Ayuk, Jennings, McCaffrey,
17:46who knows what other guy they find, as long as Kyle Shanahan is calling the plays,
17:51you're in a good spot until you get up 10 in the Super Bowl,
17:54and then he obviously forgets how to call anything good.
