00:20In 2014, I was blessed with the opportunity in Selma

00:23to play the most influential civil rights leader of the 20th century,

00:27Dr. Martin Luther King.

00:28I knew that it was destiny and I wanted to be a part of that.

00:32This had been a seven-year dream journey.

00:35The looming cloud was always budget.

00:38Selma was always going to be in the region of $20 million.

00:41That's a tough ask.

00:42There weren't very many movies out there that were just about black people.

00:48My mom would often talk about,

00:50you are going to walk among kings.

00:54So many people in this industry wait for permission to act,

00:57that it's not him and never has been him as long as I've known him.
