The 2025 Bentley Flying Spur introduces its fourth generation as the quintessential Bentley sedan, designed to redefine expectations. For this iteration, Bentley fully embraced an all-hybrid powertrain strategy, retiring the iconic 12-cylinder engine in favor of a V8 that offers either a hybrid or a potent Plug-in Electric Hybrid (PHEV) variant. The PHEV edition stands out as the most powerful Bentley ever built, generating an astonishing 771 horsepower. The electric powertrain allows for an impressive 45 to 47 miles of all-electric range before the gas engine engages, yet even when the electric range is depleted, it cleverly reserves a certain amount of electricity, ensuring the full 771 horsepower boost remains available at all times.

The Flying Spur, a mid-sized sedan, is exceptionally comfortable for all occupants, including rear-seat passengers, making it ideal for both short drives and long journeys. The rear seat is a sanctuary of luxury, offering surprisingly spacious legroom, door-mounted seat controls with memory, and indulgent massaging seats. Additional rear amenities include pop-down vanity mirrors, micro suede headrests, and a center console with USB ports and cupholders, with an optional cool box or champagne chiller available.

00:00This is the Bentley Flying Spur.
00:10This is the fourth generation of the quintessential Bentley.
00:15It's a four-door, four- or five-passenger sedan.
00:19And if you're looking at this sedan and thinking it's a little too boring for you,
00:22get inside and take a drive.
00:24I promise this car will change your mind.
00:27For the fourth generation, Bentley moved to an all-hybrid powertrain strategy.
00:32They retired the 12-cylinder engine and went with a V8 that is either a hybrid
00:38or a plug-in electric hybrid.
00:40Ours is the P-HUB edition.
00:42It generates 771 horsepower, the most powerful Bentley ever built.
00:47Bentley was a little nervous, though, but as it turns out, it was a good move.
00:51The plug-in electric hybrid is outselling the 12-cylinder.
00:54The Bentley Flying Spur is a mid-sized sedan, which isn't always as comfortable for rear
00:59seat passengers as front seat passengers, but that's not the case with this car.
01:04Bentley has designed the rear seat not only with a lot of features and luxuries for rear
01:09seat passengers, but it's really comfortable for short drives or long sitting in the rear.
01:13The Bentley Flying Spur is available in four trim levels.
01:16There is the Flying Spur.
01:17There is the Azure, which is a more luxury and comfort-focused trim.
01:22There is the Speed, which we're driving, which is a little more performance-focused.
01:26And then there's the Mulliner.
01:27The Mulliner is the over-the-top, bespoke, customized version, although you can get Mulliner
01:34details on any of the other trims.
01:36The Bentley Flying Spur is notable for this wide front grille.
01:40Ours is in gloss black.
01:42And the crystal-cut headlights.
01:45These are iconic Bentley headlights.
01:47The Bentley Flying Spur is the only model in the entire family of Bentleys that has a hood
01:53ornament.
01:54The Bentley Flying B crowns the bonnet and it's retractable.
01:58You can push a button on the touchscreen to retract it or to extend it.
02:02The Flying Spur speed that we're test driving this week is notable for blacked out details.
02:08And Bentley had fun with this.
02:09You'll see the gloss black grille and the gloss black wheels, as well as trim pieces around
02:14the exterior of the car and a black roof.
02:18Bentley introduced the plug-in hybrid powertrain last year with the Continental and then added
02:23it to the Flying Spur.
02:25In the Speed model, though, its performance is enhanced with performance tuning, suspension,
02:30and brakes.
02:31The rear end of the Bentley Flying Spur is notable, of course, for the crystal-cut tail
02:38lights.
02:38Our Speed version has this really subtle spoiler here of carbon fiber and a really subtle carbon
02:45fiber diffuser down here.
02:48And it has the classic Active Badge, the Active Flying B badge.
02:54Inside, Bentley outfits you with a charge kit here so you're never without power.
03:00If you would like to charge that plug-in electric motor.
03:04Behind the wheel of the Bentley Flying Spur, the first question you have to ask is, to electric
03:09or to not electric?
03:13They did something quite brilliant with this electric powertrain and actually something
03:17that a lot of car makers are doing.
03:19And that is, you can drive on electric about 45 or 47 miles of all-electric range before
03:26the gas engine kicks in.
03:27But even if you deplete your driving range, you don't actually deplete the engine.
03:32It still reserves a certain amount of electricity so you get the full boost for all 771 horsepower.
03:39The dash in the Bentley Flying Spur is similar to what you'll find in the Continental, but
03:44not the same as what you'll find in the Bentayga.
03:46It is a lot of electronics.
03:48We have a really nice multimedia screen here, a very crystal clear driver display here.
03:55And then we have lots of functions here.
03:58So we can choose navigation.
04:00We can go to the home screen.
04:02We can scroll through all of our apps and vehicle settings.
04:06And if you get tired of looking at that, you can just get rid of it.
04:10This is the most elegant classic Bentley view.
04:13The gauge is there in the center, right above the panel of quick access buttons here.
04:20And then on the center console is where we'll find our climate controls and our drive mode
04:25selector here.
04:26Classic gear shifter here.
04:28You press the B and pull it back or push it forward and press the P for park.
04:34The center console has a really classic look to it.
04:38It feels very almost airplane-like in all the placement of controls.
04:44Our test model is finished in mandarin orange and beluga gray with orange stitching, black
04:50gloss, and ambient lighting.
04:52The rear seat of the Bentley Flying Spur is really special.
04:56First of all, it's very spacious.
04:58For a midsize sedan, the space in the rear seat is actually quite surprising.
05:03All of our seat controls are right here on the door.
05:06Or you can even set your seat memory.
05:08And we have massaging seats, which are quite the luxury.
05:12What else do you get back here?
05:14There are vanity mirrors right here that pop down from the ceiling.
05:19Our headrests are covered in microsuede.
05:22And these are not an attachment or an add-on.
05:25They're actually built into the seats.
05:28And then there is a center console.
05:30You can get a cool box or a champagne chiller.
05:35We don't have that.
05:36We do have a standard console here with USB ports and, of course, the requisite cup holders.
05:44If you need to use this space for a passenger, of course, you want them to be safe and have a head restraint.
05:50And there is one right here.
05:51The popularity of sedans in recent years has slowed and Bentley is not immune to that.
05:58But don't let this car fool you.
06:00It is fun to drive.
06:02It's a delight to ride in the back seat.
06:04And if you want a car that flies under the radar, this could be it.
06:08It's a delight to ride in the back seat.
