00:00Sa pangtala, muling inihalal si Sen. Francis G. Escudero, bilang Senate President sa pagbubukas ng 20th Congress.

00:08Yan ang ulat ni Daniel Manalastas.

00:13Nagbigay na ng hatol ang mga senador at nagpa siyang manatiling Senate President ng 20th Congress si Sen. Francis G. Escudero,

00:22matapos siyang suportahan ng labing siyam na senador.

00:25Si na Sen. Joel Villanueva, Sen. Ronald De La Rosa, Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian, at Sen. Rafi Tulfo ang tumayo para magsulong nito.

00:34Habang isinulong naman ni Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri na maging Senate President si Sen. Tito Soto, pero limang senador lang ang sumuporta kay Soto.

00:43And let me make one more thing clear though. Yes, I may hold the gavel.

00:48I may preside over sessions, issue orders, and signal the start and end of debates.

00:54But this Senate is not mine alone to lead.

00:57Hiling at panawagan po ko po sa aking mga kapwa senador.

01:02Magtrabaho po tayo sa kabila ng ingay ng politika sa ating kapaligiran.

01:07Dahil lahat tayo ay nasa isang bangka lamang.

01:10Si Soto naman na hindi pinalad sa butuhan ang naluklok bilang Senate Minority Leader.

01:16Habang si Sen. Jingoy Estrada naman ang naluklok bilang Senate President Pro Temporary.

01:21At si Sen. Joel Villanueva, ang Senate Majority Leader at Chairperson ng Senate Committee on Rules.

01:28I have been a gold soldier of this August body since 1992.

01:35And I am always honored by any position and trusted to me by my esteemed colleagues.

01:41Hindi naman natalakay sa pagbubukas ng sesyon ng Senado ang usapin sa impeachment ni Vice President Sara Duterte.

01:49Pero sabi ni Escudero,

01:50Ang ilang senador may kanya-kanyang sentimento rin sa naging desisyon ng Korte Suprema sa impeachment ni VP Sara.

02:07Ang ilan na isrespituhin ang pasya ng Korte.

02:10Wala tayong magagawa sa Supreme Court decision.

02:13Whether we like the decision or not, the Supreme Court must be followed.

02:17The rule of law must be followed.

02:19At dapat kailangan natin.

02:21Well, sabi ng Supreme Court na nagtalabas ang desisyon na unconstitutional.

02:28So it.

02:29Habang ang ilan, iba ang pananaw.

02:31Mukhang, ayun, nakakabahala sa kalooban ng lahat.

02:36Kaya nga, sinusubukan sa pamamagitan itong ibang-ibang reliefs o proseso linawin para hindi maging mas mahirap.

02:47Ayon kay Villanueva, magkokokus ang mga senador para matalakay din ang mga prioridad ng panukala

02:54at posibleng mapasadahan din ang isyo sa impeachment.
