Poole: The UK Dog Surfing Championships took place in Poole, southwest England, with competitors riding paddle boards instead of surfing due to a lack of waves. Inspired by similar contests in Australia and California, the UK event was first held in 2018 and takes place every two years. This year's championship saw three Guinness World Records broken, the fastest 5- metres on a paddle board by a human and a dog, the most dogs riding on a single paddle board, and the most dogs riding paddle boards simultaneously.Carl, a surf instructor from Poole, praised his winning dog Margo. He said, "It is all down to Margo and her being so patient on the board with me." Participant Perdita Lawton shared how she first joined the event in 2022 after spotting it on Facebook, calling it 'bonkers' but brilliant fun. Her dog Stella even won the "judges' favourite award."Guinness adjudicator Pravin Patel verified all three new records, saying the enthusiasm and spirit shown by the participants made the day truly special for both humans and their dogs. 00:00The UK Dog Surfing Championships were held in Poole, England on July 27.
00:07Due to calm seas, dogs and their owners competed on paddle boards.
00:12This fun event happens every two years.
00:15It was first inspired by similar contests in Australia and California.
00:20This year, three world records were broken.
00:23One, for the fastest 50 meters on a paddle board by a human and dog.
00:28Another, for the most dogs on one paddle board.
00:31And the third, for the most dogs riding paddle boards at the same time.
00:37There are three dreams world records titles.
00:39The first one was the fastest 50 meters on a paddle board by a human stroke dog pair.
00:46So that's 50 meters.
00:48The second one was most dogs riding on the same paddle board.
00:52Same paddle board.
00:53So it could be an outsized paddle board, which it was.
00:55But one paddle board, as many dogs as possible.
00:59And then the third one was most dogs riding on paddle boards simultaneously.
01:03So this is different paddle boards.
01:05But each paddle board had a dog and a human on board.
01:10Amazing, awesome, totally stoked.
01:12Just, yeah, lost for words.
01:14I can't, honestly, it's down to Margo and her being so patient on the board with me.
01:19And yeah, just dug deep and had some fun with it.
01:22I feel great.
01:23Many people took part.
01:26Some were doing it for the first time.
01:28Others had come back after enjoying it in previous years.
01:32For many, it was about having fun with their dogs.
01:35Yes, I was in the first heat.
01:38We had some tough competition, but we knew that when it was drawn.
01:42Mark said as he was drawing them out, he said, oh, there's a semi-finalist from the year before.
01:47And then he said, and there's my favorite.
01:49And neither of those people were us.
01:51But I think we did very, very well.
01:53So we did it in 22.
01:55I saw it on Facebook and I just thought it looked absolutely bonkers and I really wanted to join in.
02:01So we came in 22 and it was great fun.
02:04And she won a dog that the judges want to take home.
02:08And it was also her birthday weekend last time as well.
02:12And it's really, really cute.
02:13It's the same birthday.
02:14It's the same weekend this year.
02:15So it's her birthday today.
02:17Winners were happy and proud of their pets.
02:20Judges also gave special praise to dogs that stood out.
02:24The event was full of joy, cheering and wagging tails.
