The Celtics star spoke to Marca in Malaga, where he attended an NBA campus and presented his brand's 741 Performance sneakers.

00:03Yes.

00:03Before he passed away, he had, I guess, disagreement with the company that he was with, the shoe company.

00:13And I remember reading articles that said he was leaving Nike and then he was going to go start his own brand to empower athletes.

00:24And I wish, before he passed away, that I could have been one of those athletes.

00:31But rest in peace.

00:34For me, it was just kind of picking up where he left off, you know.

00:38Yes, you know, todo bien, despacito, but I feel good.

00:45I just take it slow, you know.

00:48But every day, we take advantage of every day, keeping the right, like focus and mentality.

00:53Injuries of some kind can, like, make you question your ability, you know.

01:00So it's been a good challenge mentally for me.

01:02Every day I get up with the focus of being the best and being the best version of myself that I can be.

01:09So I'm looking forward to this upcoming season.

01:14Like Hinton thought it made me more, I try my best to make my teammates better.

01:23So, you know, I think that's the tale of a good leader, is how you elevate the people around you.

01:29And I think that's not just Balancesto, I think that's just En Vida, like in life.

01:35Like how can you make people around you better?

01:38So I always have that mentality, no matter what room that I step in, even in today.

01:44You know, how can I add value to even being here?

01:50See, a lot of hard work, a lot of sacrifice, discipline.

01:54But my favorite quote is, faith, consistency, hard work pays off.

02:00I've been writing that on my sneakers since I was a little kid.

02:06If you have faith in yourself, you be consistent every single day.

02:11You work, you make sure that you are doing the right things.

02:16And eventually, things will pay off.

02:20So I live by that mentality.

02:23You know, I am that mentality.

02:26And I look forward to the future and applying that mentality to whatever venue, whatever court,

02:35whatever classroom, whatever store, any room that I am, faith, consistency, hard work pays off.

02:44Obviously, he is a Celtic player now.

02:46Yeah, really.

02:47And, you know, our front office does a good job of identifying talent and developing talent.

02:53And I've seen him in the gym already.

02:55I've seen how attentive he is.

02:58So, you know, he's got work in front of him.

03:01It's not going to be easy.

03:02We're not going to, you know, roll the ball out and give anything to him for, you know, he has to earn it.

03:09And I think that he's up to that.

03:12He seems like a great kid.

03:14You know, has a great smile.

03:16So I'm ready to get in the gym and get to work with him as soon as possible.

03:21There's some great, great young talent in our league.

03:23I think, you know, the NBA will be just fine post, you know, the LeBron, the Steph Currys and Kevin Durant as they start to get older, etc.

03:35But there's some great young talent.

03:37And I'm optimistic about the future.

03:40And I think it'll be great.

03:41I think it'll be very, very bright, the future.

03:43And I think a lot of fans have a lot to look forward to in terms of the talent.
