A new pub in Leeds could open until 2am despite concerns that noise from drinkers would disrupt TV news broadcasts.
Transcript
00:00The Brewery Wharf Tavern is getting ready to open here on Brewery Place, situated on the River
00:09Eyre and around a 10 minute walk from Brigitt in Leeds City Centre. It was most recently the home
00:15of The Home Restaurant which closed in 2024 and Oracle Bar and Nightclub was based here between
00:212005 and 2020. Despite no longer being a nightclub the possibility of additional noise returning has
00:29not been music to the ears of ITN who produced Channel 4 News on the first floor of the Riverside
00:34building. The Brewery Wharf Tavern which is owned by Whitelocks Group who operate Whitelocks Alehouse,
00:41The Meanwood Tavern and White Cloth Hall have applied for a licence to serve drinks until 2am Monday to
00:46Saturday and until midnight on Sundays. A letter from ITN to the Leeds City Council Licensing Subcommittee
00:54said daily broadcasts were made at noon and 7pm and it raised concerns over noise from an outside
01:00area with space for around 100 people. The letter highlighted the vulnerable live nature of the
01:06broadcasts with concerns also raised about moderate ambient noise such as staff chatter, footsteps and
01:12laughter which will be directly audible within the studio. A report to the meeting said conditions had
01:18been agreed with the council and West Yorkshire Police including measures to prevent noise spreading
01:23through the building and no loudspeakers in use outside after 11pm. ITN said it was happy to work
01:30with the applicant to address the noise concerns. A licensing subcommittee will consider the application
01:35on the 29th of July where councillors will have the option of granting or refusing the licence or
01:40allowing it with additional conditions.
