00:00There were people that were just following this case, like a soap opera, like a novella,
00:05because it had so many twists and turns.
00:08Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're examining the most shocking time someone took the lives
00:13of their parents, also known as Paraside.
00:15The sentence came after 31-year-old Henry Chow was found guilty last Friday of murdering his
00:21elderly parent.
00:24Lowell Lee Andrews
00:25A student at the University of Kansas, Andrews was described as the nicest boy in Walcott,
00:31his hometown.
00:32However, nothing was further from the truth.
00:34In 1958, obsessed with getting involved in organized crime and being a hitman, Andrews
00:40walked into his family bedroom.
00:41After donning a suit, he grabbed a firearm.
00:44He ended the lives of his sister Jenny Marie and parents William and Opal with many, many
00:49shots.
00:50After making the scene look like a robbery, Andrews drove to the cinema near his college
00:54apartment for an alibi.
00:56He then returned and called the cops.
00:58However, they were suspicious.
01:00It took a local pastor to get Andrews to admit what he'd done.
01:03In 1962, he was executed for his crimes.
01:06Chandler Halderson
01:07Bart and Krista had vanished from their home in Windsor, Wisconsin.
01:11When we first got the email saying that Bart and Krista were missing, it didn't compute.
01:16Like, what do you mean they're missing?
01:17Only their son Chandler didn't seem desperate to find them until Krista's colleague intervened.
01:22After he went around the neighborhood, asking if anyone had seen his parents, a farmer told
01:27the cops they'd seen Halderson several days ago on their property.
01:30When officers retraced his steps, they found his father's remains.
01:34Halderson was arrested, but he wouldn't divulge where Krista was.
01:38Chandler Halderson had lawyered up and wasn't talking, but someone very close to him was.
01:45Using data from his girlfriend's Snapchat account, they pinpointed his movements and found
01:49his mother's remains. He allegedly did it due to his lies being exposed about dropping
01:54out of college and faking an internship at a SpaceX job. In 2022, Halderson was sentenced
02:00to life.
02:01Halderson was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
02:07Susanne Von Histoffen
02:08In 2002, Von Histoffen invited her boyfriend, Daniel Cravinhos, and his brother, Christian Cravinhos,
02:14into her family home in Sao Paulo, Brazil, at night. For months, she had been planning
02:19this moment after her parents disapproved of her relationship and had a fortune of millions
02:24she wanted to inherit. After the Cravinhos murdered Manfredi Albers and Marisia Von Histoffen,
02:29the trio staged a break-in. Later, when they returned home, Von Histoffen got her brother
02:34and, quote, discovered the carnage. However, the disconnected alarm system and Von Histoffen hosting
02:40her birthday party after her parents' funeral led cops to arrest her and the brothers. In 2006,
02:45Von Histoffen and Danielle received 40 years, while Christian got 38 years. In 2023, she was
02:52released on probation.
02:54Tyler Hadley
02:55In 2011, Michael Mandel attended a party at his friend's house in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
03:00Well, Michael, it was here inside this Port St. Lucie home that investigators say Tyler Hadley
03:05allegedly murdered both of his parents with a hammer.
03:08However, when he took a walk with host Hadley, he confessed to Mandel that he had killed his
03:12parents, Blake and Mary Jo, and their bodies were in the bedroom, unbeknownst to the guests.
03:18For several hours, Mandel played it cool.
03:20After I found his parents, I knew it was going to be the last time I've seen them.
03:24This is that look on his face. You could see the horror in his face. That's not normal Tyler.
03:30Once he left, he contacted a crime hotline, and Hadley was soon arrested.
03:35With a history of substance use, his parents wanted to send him to inpatient treatment,
03:39which angered him. In 2014, due to being a minor at the time of the crime, he was sentenced to two
03:45life terms. After it was overturned on a technicality in 2018, Hadley was resentenced to life.
03:52This morning, the judge ruled to uphold two life sentences for Tyler Hadley.
03:57Joel Michael Guy Jr. In 2016, the police arrived at the home of Joel and Lisa Guy in Knoxville,
04:04Tennessee, for a wellness check when she didn't turn up for work.
04:07Police officers visited the Guy's residence and checked in with their neighbors.
04:13We're just doing a welfare check, just to make sure they're okay.
04:16I'm just curious when the last time you've seen them.
04:18I know they were here at Thanksgiving because their son was with them.
04:21After getting inside, they discovered a grisly scene as their remains were everywhere.
04:26During this time, their son, Joel Guy Jr., was getting medical treatment for cuts on his hands.
04:31When he was arrested, the cops found a mountain of evidence,
04:35including a notebook documenting his plan.
04:37The best description of its contents, I would call this a murder book.
04:42The plastic surgeon student was devastated his parents were retiring soon and moving,
04:46taking away the financial aid they'd given him for years.
04:49Looking to cash in on his mother's life insurance,
04:52Guy took their lives and attempted to destroy evidence.
04:55In 2020, he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
04:58He was sentenced to life in prison for two counts of first-degree murder
05:02and dismemberment of his parents, Joel Guy Sr. and Lisa Guy.
05:07The Bever brothers.
05:08The Bever family in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, were extremely secretive,
05:12resulting in their neighbors not knowing their full names
05:15as they homeschooled and isolated their children from others.
05:18The only people that were unlike everyone else here
05:20lived at the house where police are now investigating a murder.
05:24It's just shocking, shocking and frightening.
05:29In 2015, 911 received a distressing call from Daniel Bever
05:33that his brother was attacking them before the line cut off.
05:36When the cops arrived, parents David and April,
05:38along with children Daniel, Christopher, and Victoria had been slain.
05:42When police broke through the door, they found a family slaughtered.
05:46Crystal was severely injured and Autumn was unharmed.
05:49Teenage brothers Robert and Michael spent months
05:51hoarding weapons and armor to attack the family.
05:54They claimed their father was abusive,
05:56but Robert also stated his desire to be a serial killer.
05:59Both received multiple life terms for their actions.
06:02Robert Bever and his brother Michael Bever are serving a life sentence.
06:06Ronald DeFeo Jr.
06:08In one terrible act of Parasite,
06:10DeFeo would inspire the Amityville Horror Film Series.
06:13In 1974, he ran into a bar near the family home
06:17in Amityville, Long Island, New York to get help.
06:20In just a matter of minutes,
06:21Ron DeFeo eliminated his entire family,
06:24shooting them as they slept.
06:25DeFeo led a group home to discover his parents,
06:28Ronald and Louise,
06:29and his siblings, Don, Allison, Mark, and John,
06:31had all been fatally shot.
06:33While the police were protecting DeFeo,
06:35he suggested his family were victims of a mob hit.
06:38His initial claim that he was in the basement and high on pot
06:41and heard nothing to a later assertion that the mob did it.
06:44His story began to unravel, leading to his confession.
06:48Over time, DeFeo's story changed many times,
06:51leading some to believe he was set up
06:53or questioning his mental health.
06:55Regardless, he was sentenced to 25 years to life
06:58and perished in jail in 2021.
07:01He died Friday while serving a 25-year-to-life sentence
07:04at Sullivan Correctional Facility in Fallsburg, New York.
07:06Jasmine Richardson.
07:08With him being nearly double their daughter's age at 23,
07:11claiming to be a 300-year-old werewolf
07:13and wearing a vial of blood around his neck,
07:16it's understandable that Mark and Deborah Richardson
07:18didn't like their child's boyfriend, Jeremy Stanky.
07:21He was from the other side of the tracks
07:23and he was an unemployed high school dropout
07:27who was living in a trailer park.
07:29Yet grounding Richardson did not deter her.
07:32Instead, it caused her to create a terrible plan.
07:35In 2006, she opened a window for Stanky
07:38at the family home in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada.
07:40He fatally attacked Richardson's parents
07:42and her brother, Tyler.
07:44One of the officers noticed a family portrait
07:46sitting on a side table.
07:48When he took a look at it, there were four people.
07:51So there was a girl missing.
07:52In 2007, Richardson was the youngest person in Canada
07:56to be found guilty of multiple murders
07:58and sentenced to 10 years.
07:59In 2008, Stanky was sentenced to life
08:02with possible parole after 25 years.
08:05In 2016, Richardson was released from all conditions
08:08and rejoined society.
08:11We all know she'll be out in the community one day.
08:13That's inevitable.
08:14And what kind of person is she going to be?
08:15What kind of adult is she going to be?
08:17Henry Chow Hylieng.
08:18In 2013, Chow and his older brother
08:21desperately sought their parents,
08:23Glory Chow Wing-Chi and Moon-Sue Yuet-Yi,
08:25who had vanished in Taekook Choi, Hong Kong.
08:27In 2013, Henry Chow lured his 65-year-old father
08:31and 63-year-old mother to a flat in Taekook Choi.
08:35After going to social media and the press for help,
08:37Chow went to the police.
08:39During questioning, he told his friends through WhatsApp
08:41that he had murdered his parents.
08:43Chow blamed his parents for his failures in life.
08:46The judge criticized Chow for thinking
08:48that killing his parents would solve all his problems.
08:51He invited them to Angus Tse-Chung Khoi's apartment,
08:54where Chow murdered them.
08:55Tse then helped get rid of the bodies
08:57by making them appear as pork
08:59and storing them in lunchboxes.
09:01In 2015, Chow was found guilty and sentenced to life,
09:05and Tse received one year.
09:06Despite pretending to have mental problems,
09:09he had planned the murder for six months
09:11and was very aware of what he was doing, the judge said.

09:28The Menendez brothers.
09:31In 1989, Lyle and Eric Menendez opened fire on their parents,
09:36Jose and Kitty, at their family home in Beverly Hills, California.
09:39So they said they grabbed shotguns
09:41that they had bought two days earlier for protection,
09:45went into the family room,
09:47and started shooting their parents.
09:49When the cops arrived,
09:51the brothers stated they were out
09:52and came home to discover their parents slain.
09:54Eric later confessed to his psychiatrist,
09:57and the information got back to the police,
09:59who arrested them.
10:00On March 8th, 1990,
10:02after police got their hands on that tape,
10:04Lyle Menendez was taken into custody.
10:07Eric Menendez, who was out of the country at the time,
10:10surrendered to police days later.
10:13While the prosecution pointed at the brothers' greed
10:15and wanting their wealthy father's cash,
10:17they had a different story.
10:18They spoke about the years of abuse
10:20they sustained from Jose.
10:21They feared for their lives
10:23after threatening to expose him,
10:24leading to them slaying their parents.
10:27In 1996, after the first trial was deadlocked,
10:30the brothers were sentenced to life without parole.
10:33At the jury's recommendation,
10:34the brothers were sentenced to life in prison
10:36without the possibility of parole.
