00:00The Penang High Court has postponed the sentencing of a woman in a murder case to August 8.

00:20submitted by the Northeast District Welfare Department, along with the prosecution's
00:25arguments and the defence's mitigation plea. Earlier, the court proceedings were briefly
00:30adjourned after the accused broke down in tears upon being shown photographs of her baby and
00:36other case exhibits. She had to be comforted by her lawyer, RS Andrea, and her mother.
00:41In his mitigation, Andrea said the accused was a college student when the incident occurred
00:46and had since spent four months in Riman. He said the experience had profoundly affected both her
00:52and her family, and added that the accused had attempted to take her own life after giving
00:57birth out of fear of phasing her parents. He urged the court to consider a bond of good behaviour in
01:04place of a custodial sentence given her young age at the time and the psychological trauma she endured.
01:10Meanwhile, the prosecution emphasised the gravity of the case, saying that the victim had died after
01:16being thrown from a hide out of the window of her apartment building.
01:20In May this year, the accused pleaded guilty to an alternative charge of throwing her baby out of
01:26a window after giving birth. The charge was framed under Section 309, Subsection A of the Penal Code,
01:32which takes into account mental disturbance in women who have recently given birth.
