00:00The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency, or AKPS, is stepping up efforts to
00:06eliminate counter-setting activities at the nation's entry points by enforcing stricter
00:11personnel vetting and policy reforms.
00:14Its Director-General, Datuk Seri Mohamad Shuhaili Mohamad Zain, said only officers with clean
00:20disciplinary records will be posted at border counters under the new policy.
00:24As a newly formed agency comprising officers from Immigration, Customs and other departments,
00:31AKPS aims to break the cycle of inherited misconduct through proper screening and internal cooperation.
00:38In a related case, an immigration officer in his early 30s was arrested on Thursday, found
00:44in possession of nearly 8,000 ringgit in cash and three mobile phones, allegedly in violation
00:51of internal directives.
00:52The officer, who has only served for four years, was handed over to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption
00:57Commission and is being investigated under Section 17A of the MACC Act.
01:04Shuhaili stressed the urgency of addressing misconduct early in an officer's career, but noted that
01:10the absence of a swift mechanism to terminate corrupt officers remains a major hurdle.
01:15He also addressed public perception, clarifying that suspected officers are not simply transferred,
01:21but must undergo due process, which can be time-consuming.
01:27You are welcome.
