00:00:00Already Parsons first became eligible for a contract extension following the 23 season.
00:00:04He is currently scheduled to play on his fifth year option this season.
00:00:07That is worth $24 million.
00:00:08We've been talking about this for a while.
00:00:10A training camp is here.
00:00:11Michael Parsons is here.
00:00:12What do we make of this Parsons situation, Manti?
00:00:14I mean, training camp's here.
00:00:16We know where the Dallas Cowboys are, and it seems to be the same narrative that is
00:00:20these contract disputes with Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys.
00:00:23I believe we have the clip of 2023 that I'd love to toss to where he was discussing
00:00:27Zach Martin's extension and then brought up Michael Parsons.
00:00:31It's not about precedent.
00:00:32It's about facts.
00:00:34We need the money to pay Parsons.
00:00:36We need the money to pay the players that we've got to pay in the future.
00:00:40It's a fact.
00:00:41It's not even a philosophy.
00:00:43It's just a fact.
00:00:44That's July 29th, guys.
00:00:462023.
00:00:47And it's just that energy in that interview, right?
00:00:49It's like we're all at a table.
00:00:51You know, imagine going to a dinner table and the bill comes out and there's always
00:00:54that friend that starts pocket tapping like, oh, I don't have my wallet.
00:00:57Like, that's what I that's the energy that I get from this Jerry Jones clip that I just
00:01:01showed and referring to the Jerry Jones clip about Michael Parsons this year.
00:01:04He talked about injuries.
00:01:06He kind of hinted towards injuries and longevity.
00:01:08That guy missed five games his entire season, his entire career, guys.
00:01:11He missed four games last year to a high ankle sprain, a grade three high ankle sprain.
00:01:15I had a grade two high ankle sprain and I missed four games.
00:01:18So the amount of times that this guy is not on the field for the Dallas Cowboys is very,
00:01:22very little.
00:01:23And that's that's a lot when it comes to talking about something like Michael Parsons,
00:01:27what he's meant to that franchise.
00:01:28And so if you want to talk about his impact on the field, let's talk about his impact off
00:01:32the field last year when he when they when he missed those four games, the Dallas Cowboys
00:01:36went one and three.
00:01:37That defense gave up at least 27 points or more in his absence.
00:01:41So if you want to talk about signing a key figure, if you want to talk about signing the
00:01:44cornerstone of that defense and arguably of that franchise, it starts off with number
00:01:4811 and his performance on and also his absence off the field that you have to really consider
00:01:53if you're Jerry Jones.
00:01:54But again, it's just the same old narrative.
00:01:56When we when we talk about the Dallas Cowboys and his contract dispute, Cynthia, that I
00:02:00just go like, why are we pocket tapping all of a sudden when that bill comes out?
00:02:03You know, well, he knew the bill was coming.
00:02:04Yeah, you know, I mean, and look, this is a narrative we see year in and year out.
00:02:10We have a list here.
00:02:11Are you ready for it?
00:02:11It's Dak Prescott last year and he signed on September 8th.
00:02:14That was actually the day of the season opener.
00:02:16Before that, it was CeeDee Lamb.
00:02:18Then it was Taryn Steele, Zach Martin, Trayvon Diggs, Ezekiel Elliott, Travis Frederick, Dez
00:02:22Bryant.
00:02:23This is just a ridiculous number of late signings.
00:02:25And so I'm just saying this is what we are expecting from the Cowboys.
00:02:29They might be pocket tappers, but then they end up spending more because the market keeps
00:02:33getting reset.
00:02:34We just saw TJ Watt signed a massive deal.
00:02:36So now you got to keep looking like, well, not just got more expensive.
00:02:38They just don't care.
00:02:39They'll figure it out.
00:02:40They'll this is what they do.
00:02:41It's a time.
00:02:42They don't Mike is there.
00:02:43They're happy with him.
00:02:44He's in great shape.
00:02:45Everything's good.
00:02:45He's healthy.
00:02:46They're just like, whatever.
00:02:47Whenever David Muligheta gets around, we'll have him come back and do the negotiation.
00:02:51It'll be fine.
00:02:51It'll all work out.
00:02:53It'll be great.
00:02:53So they're not worried.
00:02:54We shouldn't be either.
00:02:56Yeah, Cynthia, I couldn't agree with you anymore when you say this is what they do.
00:02:58When you look at the Cowboys and what they do year in and year out, all they do is sign
00:03:02stars.
00:03:02It's an organization.
00:03:03It's a program that's built on the big stars, the big names.
00:03:06And man, we know, and you know, like I know, we played rush and cover work together.
00:03:09And you can't have a good defense without an elite pass rusher.
00:03:11That is exactly what Michael Parsons is.
00:03:13Like you said, they're signing guys late into the early into the season, late in the training
00:03:17camp.
00:03:17It's not a big deal.
00:03:18Dallas Cowboys are built on superstars.
00:03:20They're built on the media.
00:03:21They're built on the glitz and the glam.
00:03:22And when you have a guy like him, you have to make sure you get the deal done.
00:03:24I have no doubt in my mind that they'll be done and it'll be a big boy bad.
00:03:28I mean, that's the thing.
00:03:29We've been talking about it this entire offseason.
00:03:31We've been talking about it.
00:03:31I mean, you knew that you knew the bill was coming.
00:03:33That's a man ties point.
00:03:34And I still don't think there's nobody that really thinks like, oh, what if they don't
00:03:37get this work done?
00:03:37I mean, this is getting imminent.
00:03:39This is happening.
00:03:40And it's going to be monstrous when it happens.
00:03:41I don't think anyone really thinks otherwise on that attention.
00:03:44Dallas wants to win the Super Bowl this year.
00:03:45Of course they do.
00:03:46They want to win it every year.
00:03:47And Dak Prescott is not happy that he is two and five in the playoffs.
00:03:50He told Clarence Hill of All-City Dallas that nobody wants to win more than me.
00:03:54I have the proof in what I do, in my hours, in my habits of preparation.
00:03:58I understand it's a team game, but at the end of the day, the quarterback is paid to fill
00:04:02in those gaps.
00:04:03And when you're not playing well, to understand that and to bring the team back.
00:04:07And have I done that when I needed to?
00:04:09Absolutely not in those crucial times.
00:04:10And if I had, the record wouldn't be two and five.
00:04:13That's being a realist.
00:04:15What are your realistic expectations then for these 2025 Cowboys, Cynthia?
00:04:19OK, so let's just let's pump the brakes a little bit.
00:04:21The Eagles are still in the division.
00:04:22Last I checked, same thing with the commanders now.
00:04:25So I think improvement from last season is what should be on the docket.
00:04:28If Dak stays healthy, it's a completely different team.
00:04:31But I'm even looking at the games that Dak played last season.
00:04:34And if you're kind of looking at what happened, he had eight games played.
00:04:37He had 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
00:04:39That's tough.
00:04:40He was also sacked 21 times.
00:04:42The pressure rate was exceptionally high.
00:04:44The run game was not their strength last season.
00:04:46And these are kind of the foundations that we've seen and the circumstances we've seen for
00:04:49Dak to be successful.
00:04:50So when I'm looking at this team as a whole, they're going to go as Dak goes.
00:04:53So if he can stay healthy, it will be great.
00:04:56If not, it will be great.
00:04:57It's pretty simple.
00:04:58Yeah.
00:04:59No, I don't have any expectations for them going into this year.
00:05:01I think so many times we get caught up in the expectations of the Dallas Cowboys that,
00:05:04you know, Dak talked about proof.
00:05:06I got some proof.
00:05:07I got some proof on some performance, some playoff performance where he had a great roster.
00:05:11He had a great defense.
00:05:12He had a great offense.
00:05:13Let's get that graphic up there of the type of defenses that he's had.
00:05:16Like, this is the defense that he's had in all.
00:05:18He had a fifth-ranked defense, a fifth-ranked defense in 2022 and 2023,
00:05:21a seventh-ranked defense in 2021.
00:05:23And not to mention, they had the number one-ranked offense twice.
00:05:26Yet, they still have a losing record in the playoffs.
00:05:30So I don't have any expectations for the Dallas Cowboys.
00:05:32I don't want to put that kind of responsibility on them right now.
00:05:35I kind of just want to wait, like I said yesterday,
00:05:37until week 17 of the season to see where they sit.
00:05:40If they get into playoffs, we'll take it game by game
00:05:42because we don't know how that's going to play out for them
00:05:44because the proof is that when they do get into the playoffs,
00:05:47it's a different story for them.
00:05:48It's a different story for Dak.
00:05:48And so I'm going to wait a little bit and hold my expectations back a little.
00:05:51Well, man, Tyler, you've got to just look at it like this.
00:05:53They're the Dallas Cowboys, and they've got the glitz and the glam,
00:05:55and the expectations are going to be there.
00:05:56Everyone looks at this team, America's team, quote-unquote, right?
00:05:58But they haven't been America's team since I was in diapers,
00:06:00and I was in 1990, right?
00:06:02And that's just what it is.
00:06:03I will say this.
00:06:04Now, they're in a division with the Redskins.
00:06:05They're in a division with teams like the Commanders, right?
00:06:07And those are the two head horses right now in that division.
00:06:09But if Dak can stay healthy, piggybacking off what you said, Cynthia,
00:06:12they have a chance.
00:06:13It's 100% injury rate in the NFL.
00:06:14And we do know that it's based on your depth.
00:06:17Do they have enough depth to carry them through December,
00:06:19to carry them through January?
00:06:20We'll have to wait and see.
00:06:21But right now, I see them going over 500.
00:06:23Don't see them winning the division.
00:06:25It'll be the same old story at the end of the year,
00:06:26get into the big game, and they cannot finish it.
00:06:28We had a talk yesterday on a subject yesterday.
00:06:30I want to ask you, Jaleel.
00:06:31We were talking about the NFC East,
00:06:33and we were talking about specifically the Eagles
00:06:34and what teams could possibly threaten them.
00:06:37Do you see the Cowboys as possibly one of those teams?
00:06:40We talked a lot about the Commanders on this show.
00:06:42Do you see the Cowboys, since they are the subject at hand,
00:06:44as a team that could be a threat, and if so, how?
00:06:47Absolutely, positively not.
00:06:49I'm going to tell you why.
00:06:50When you look at the Cowboys, year in and year out,
00:06:51they have the star-studded names.
00:06:52They have the big names.
00:06:53They have everything at their disposal.
00:06:55Being an NFL man, you know that there's different organizations,
00:06:57there's different programs who give you the resources
00:06:59to make you become successful.
00:07:00The Cowboys have it all at their disposal.
00:07:02And year in and year out, they just disappoint.
00:07:04I don't think they have enough offense, defense,
00:07:06special teams to derail the Eagles.
00:07:07The team that I do think in the division with key signings
00:07:10is the Commanders.
00:07:11Jaden Daniels is a monster behind the quarterback,
00:07:12behind the center position.
00:07:13He has that charisma, he's a leader,
00:07:15and he's doing the right things as a young baller
00:07:16to derail the Eagles.
00:07:17Cowboys, I don't see it, man.
00:07:18Okay, so let me bounce off of that,
00:07:20because I think it's really interesting that you said
00:07:21that you don't have expectations.
00:07:23You have to.
00:07:23When you play for Jerry Jones and you play for the Cowboys,
00:07:25and I know that this is getting incredibly repetitive
00:07:28year after year, it's got to be this year.
00:07:30I'm not saying that it will be,
00:07:31but what I'm saying is it's got to be, right?
00:07:33You have to have the expectations that you can go
00:07:35win the Super Bowl.
00:07:36I think Dallas fans expect that.
00:07:37I'm not saying that they're going to get what they want.
00:07:39I'm saying they expect it.
00:07:40I think their owner expects it.
00:07:41And so the expectation, I think, is always that
00:07:43they have to win the Super Bowl.
00:07:44You mentioned they're littered with talent,
00:07:46so when things aren't working, there's changes.
00:07:47The Cowboys have made changes, right?
00:07:49They're coming in now under a new coaching regime.
00:07:52I want to ask you guys, defensively,
00:07:53as the two defensive guys here at this table,
00:07:55a new defensive coordinator,
00:07:57so much was made of the guy that's now leading
00:07:59the commanders and what he did there.
00:08:00What is training camp like for this group
00:08:02in terms of trying to get this defense
00:08:04that has been very, very good?
00:08:05And I know we've been talking about the MICA contract.
00:08:07That's going to get worked out.
00:08:08Talk to me about what he is dealing with right now
00:08:10with a regime change there in Dallas
00:08:12and what this defense looks like
00:08:13when you're going through training camp under change.
00:08:16Michael Parsons, you're referring to?
00:08:17Just the defense as a whole.
00:08:18The defense as a whole.
00:08:19There's been so much change and turnover over there,
00:08:21and that's why it's so important
00:08:22that they sign somebody like Michael Parsons.
00:08:24He's the last remaining guy besides Diggs
00:08:26that you look at him like,
00:08:27okay, these are the foundations
00:08:29of what I want the identity of my defense to be.
00:08:32Without him on the field,
00:08:33the Dallas Cowboys are so lucky
00:08:35that regardless of the contract situation,
00:08:38that that man is still in the locker room.
00:08:40How many times have you heard in the offseason,
00:08:42even in training camp,
00:08:43of these holdouts
00:08:43and guys not really wanting to participate because of that?
00:08:46That just goes to show
00:08:46how much that man loves football.
00:08:48So going to training camp,
00:08:49being Michael Parsons,
00:08:50being that defense,
00:08:51you're starting to understand that,
00:08:52hey, it's 0-0.
00:08:54Everybody has the same record right now,
00:08:55but what we do at this point in time
00:08:57is going to set us up
00:08:58for hopefully a successful 2025 campaign.
00:09:00Well, we just saw the picture of this.
00:09:01Matt Eberflues,
00:09:02who's now coming over from Chicago,
00:09:03and he's tasked with continuing
00:09:05to keep this defense going
00:09:06and what can change for them
00:09:08as you look at Eberflues there?
00:09:09Well, I'm looking at Eberflues
00:09:10as a return home, right?
00:09:11So there are some things
00:09:12that he is familiar with
00:09:13having been there before.
00:09:14Some of the things like
00:09:15it's a unique ownership structure
00:09:16compared to some other teams.
00:09:17So at least there's that learning curve
00:09:19isn't new for Eberflues, right?
00:09:20So that's an interesting point from
00:09:22he's just having to deal
00:09:23with a new set of team,
00:09:24like the people on the team,
00:09:25but not necessarily
00:09:26how the Cowboys
00:09:27and all of the expectations.
00:09:28He's used to the expectations
00:09:29at least, yeah.
00:09:30Yeah, so I play for Matt in Indy
00:09:31and he's a guy,
00:09:32he's a defensive coordinator
00:09:32that's going to get you going.
00:09:33He's going to have you prepared.
00:09:34He's going to have you know
00:09:35on the other team scheme.
00:09:36He's going to know
00:09:36what they're doing.
00:09:37Their Tennessee's down in distances.
00:09:38But what the players have to do
00:09:39in Dallas is take on
00:09:40the ownership themselves.
00:09:41Has to be a player-led team,
00:09:42player-led defense.
00:09:43New scheme, new regime,
00:09:45staying in after Manta,
00:09:46you know, coming in early,
00:09:47leaving late, extra meetings.
00:09:49And the biggest thing with me
00:09:50when I was with the defense
00:09:51and we had our most success,
00:09:53we were a band of brothers.
00:09:54We just didn't come to the office.
00:09:55We didn't just come to the facility,
00:09:56get our work in and get out.
00:09:57No, we did dinners.
00:09:59You know, we knew each other's families.
00:10:00So Manta, I can call on you.
00:10:01You can call on me.
00:10:02And you know it's not
00:10:02from a bad standpoint
00:10:03or bad point of view.
00:10:04You know, this is my brother
00:10:05depending on me.
00:10:06And we're going to get
00:10:06this thing done together.
00:10:07We just spent a lot of time
00:10:08talking about Micah Parsons
00:10:09and his contract situation.
00:10:10And obviously another
00:10:11contract situation
00:10:12that everyone is keeping
00:10:13an eye on, Trey Hendrickson.
00:10:14Give us the latest
00:10:15on what's going on
00:10:15with him right now.
00:10:17Sarah, the Bengals are scheduled
00:10:19to report to Cincinnati today.
00:10:21And not only is Trey Hendrickson
00:10:22not expected to report,
00:10:23he is no longer in the state.
00:10:25Hendrickson posting early
00:10:26this morning on Instagram
00:10:27that he is back in his home
00:10:28in the Jacksonville area.
00:10:30in Florida,
00:10:31less than 24 hours
00:10:32after owner Mike Brown,
00:10:33among others,
00:10:34expressed optimism
00:10:35that they would be able
00:10:36to get a new deal done
00:10:37with Hendrickson.
00:10:38Now you go all the way
00:10:38back to May
00:10:39when Trey Hendrickson
00:10:39flew into Cincinnati
00:10:41specifically to show up
00:10:42to practice,
00:10:43speak with reporters
00:10:44while his teammates
00:10:44are on the field
00:10:45and say,
00:10:45I'm not going to play
00:10:47for the one year
00:10:47and $60 million
00:10:48left on my contract.
00:10:50He's the reigning
00:10:50NFL SAC leader.
00:10:51He felt like a year ago
00:10:52there was a promise
00:10:53from the Bengals
00:10:53they would address his contract
00:10:54if he delivered once again.
00:10:56He certainly did that
00:10:57in a big way.
00:10:58And the Bengals have
00:10:58offered him a new deal.
00:11:00My understanding though
00:11:01is despite the relatively
00:11:02close nature
00:11:03of the conversations
00:11:04in terms of what
00:11:05the overall numbers
00:11:06would be on a contract,
00:11:07they are not there
00:11:08in terms of the guaranteed money.
00:11:10The Bengals are on the
00:11:10very, very short list
00:11:11of NFL teams
00:11:12that still,
00:11:13in general,
00:11:14only guarantee
00:11:15the reporting bonus,
00:11:16the signing bonus,
00:11:17the initial year
00:11:17of the contract.
00:11:18They have bent that rule
00:11:19in recent years
00:11:20for the likes of Joe Burrow
00:11:21and Jamar Chase
00:11:22to get those deals done.
00:11:23To this point,
00:11:24they have not been willing
00:11:24to do the same
00:11:25with Trey Hendrickson.
00:11:26He has made clear
00:11:27he wants a new
00:11:27multi-year commitment.
00:11:29Until that happens,
00:11:30it does appear
00:11:31that Trey Hendrickson
00:11:32is going to stay away.
00:11:33Meanwhile,
00:11:33their number 17 overall pick,
00:11:35their first-rounder,
00:11:35Shamar Stewart,
00:11:36also not reporting today
00:11:38and not even in the state
00:11:39as well.
00:11:39He's been down in Texas
00:11:41where he played college football,
00:11:42preparing on his own
00:11:43because of an ongoing dispute
00:11:45over new contract language
00:11:47that the Bengals
00:11:47want to use in his deal.
00:11:49From the Bengals' perspective,
00:11:50as they said yesterday
00:11:51at their annual
00:11:52pre-training camp luncheon,
00:11:53they feel like they have
00:11:54the right to evolve
00:11:55their contract language
00:11:56and bring it up
00:11:57to similar type of language
00:11:58in terms of defaults,
00:11:59things that could happen
00:12:00off the field,
00:12:01suspensions and other things
00:12:02that would cause them
00:12:03to not owe Shamar Stewart
00:12:04the money.
00:12:05From the player's perspective
00:12:06and his agent
00:12:07Zach Hiller's perspective,
00:12:08they're saying,
00:12:08we just want the same language
00:12:09you've given to everybody else.
00:12:11Marius Mims,
00:12:11last year's first-round draft pick,
00:12:12Joe Burrow,
00:12:13when he was drafted,
00:12:14that's the divide
00:12:15that you have right now
00:12:16with Shamar Stewart
00:12:17and the Bengals.
00:12:17This is also a really
00:12:18unique situation
00:12:19because Shamar Stewart,
00:12:21again,
00:12:21who is a good college player
00:12:23who was drafted very high
00:12:23in the first round,
00:12:24I'm told,
00:12:25has multiple seven-figure offers
00:12:27to go back to college football.
00:12:28There are some hoops
00:12:29that would have to be
00:12:29jumped through.
00:12:30Technically,
00:12:30you don't have eligibility
00:12:31once you declare
00:12:32for the NFL draft,
00:12:33but in the wild world
00:12:34of college football,
00:12:35let's just say
00:12:35anything is possible.
00:12:37At this point,
00:12:37my understanding is
00:12:38Shamar Stewart still
00:12:39wants to be a Bengal.
00:12:40He doesn't want to go
00:12:40back to college.
00:12:41He wants to be
00:12:42in the NFL this season.
00:12:43He just wants to have
00:12:44the same contract language
00:12:45that everybody else has had.
00:12:47Right now,
00:12:48there is no sign
00:12:48of the ice thawing
00:12:50in that case either,
00:12:51so barring some type
00:12:52of significant change
00:12:53in the coming hours
00:12:54here in a very fast plane.
00:12:56Neither of the Bengals'
00:12:57top pass rushers
00:12:58are going to be on hand
00:12:59with Cincinnati reports
00:13:00today, Sarah.
00:13:00Harbaugh peeking through
00:13:02and watching his star quarterback,
00:13:04Justin Herbert,
00:13:05during prepping.
00:13:06What are we doing?
00:13:07By the way,
00:13:07why is he peeking through?
00:13:08He's credentialed.
00:13:09He can be out there
00:13:10on the field.
00:13:10What are we doing?
00:13:11But really just,
00:13:12we're using that
00:13:12to lead us to this.
00:13:13I don't know what's going on.
00:13:14What team are you excited
00:13:16to get a peek of
00:13:18when training camp starts up?
00:13:20Jaleel, we'll start with you.
00:13:21I got to go with the Chargers.
00:13:22I got to go with
00:13:23Los Angeles Chargers.
00:13:23I just want to know
00:13:24who's going to be
00:13:25that next wide receiver
00:13:28that's going to step up
00:13:28for Justin Herbert.
00:13:29When you look at the Chargers
00:13:30last year, right,
00:13:31they got into the playoffs
00:13:32and the biggest thing with them,
00:13:34they didn't have that extra weapon
00:13:35to free Ladd McConkie
00:13:36for them to go
00:13:37into the playoffs deep, right?
00:13:38Justin Herbert had a tough game
00:13:39against the Houston Texans.
00:13:40And then I look at the secondary
00:13:41and I'm looking and I'm saying,
00:13:42okay, so who's going to be
00:13:42the number one corner?
00:13:43Who's going to be
00:13:44that lockdown corner
00:13:44when they say it's third and long?
00:13:46We're deep into the playoffs.
00:13:47We're in a divisional game
00:13:48and we need to stop
00:13:48and we got to make sure
00:13:49that we take away
00:13:50the other team's first option,
00:13:52the other team's number one receiver.
00:13:53Who's going to be that guy?
00:13:54I'm really interested to see
00:13:55what the Chargers do.
00:13:56Mike Williams was a really big signing.
00:13:58I thought that was going to help
00:13:59Justin Herbert.
00:13:59Obviously, just recently retired.
00:14:01Keenan Allen.
00:14:02Are they going to call Keenan Allen?
00:14:03Is he an option for them?
00:14:04Because right now, Ladd McConkie
00:14:05is the only receiver
00:14:05that I see on that roster
00:14:06right now that has proven himself
00:14:07and all defenses are going to do
00:14:09is roll the covers for him
00:14:09and make you beat him
00:14:10some other way.
00:14:11Yeah, I like that, Jaleel.
00:14:12And I'm excited to see
00:14:13what the Chargers are going to do
00:14:14at training camp.
00:14:14Matter of fact,
00:14:15me and sister Jamie Erdall,
00:14:16we will be at training camp
00:14:17on Saturday for NFL Network.
00:14:18We're looking forward to it.
00:14:19It's going to be fun.
00:14:19So tune in on Saturday.
00:14:21But I'm going to stay in the AFC West.
00:14:22I want to see the Broncos.
00:14:23I think it cannot be understated
00:14:25what Sean Payton
00:14:26and that franchise
00:14:27was able to do
00:14:28in just three years
00:14:29after one of the biggest trades.
00:14:32Like that type of trade.
00:14:32We know a whole bunch of teams
00:14:33in the NFL
00:14:34that are holding on
00:14:35to a bad trade right now.
00:14:36Sean Payton said,
00:14:37this ain't working.
00:14:38We're going to get rid of it
00:14:38and we're going to move on.
00:14:39And look what the Denver Broncos
00:14:40and Sean Payton have done
00:14:41in just the three years
00:14:42that he's been there.
00:14:43I would love to see that defense
00:14:46just from a fan's perspective.
00:14:47There are additions
00:14:47of Talanoa Hufanga
00:14:48and Dre Greenlaw
00:14:49to that front seven
00:14:50and that secondary
00:14:51that's already locked down
00:14:52the rookie out of Texas Barron.
00:14:53I want to see that.
00:14:55And just for somebody
00:14:56who's been to training camp
00:14:57with Sean Payton,
00:14:58that is,
00:14:59that training camp
00:14:59is different, guys.
00:15:00How?
00:15:01Sean Payton
00:15:02and the competition,
00:15:03we did it in New Orleans.
00:15:05Now, New Orleans heat
00:15:06is a different type of heat.
00:15:07But Sean Payton picks,
00:15:10he looks at the forecast
00:15:10for 10-day forecast
00:15:12and says,
00:15:12I'm going to pick the hottest day
00:15:13and I'm going to make it
00:15:15the hardest day.
00:15:16And so what does that do
00:15:16for us as a team?
00:15:17We get into this mentality
00:15:18that wherever we go,
00:15:19we're going to win.
00:15:20So we actually came to L.A.
00:15:22to scrimmage against the Chargers
00:15:23my first year with the Saints,
00:15:25scrimmage my former team.
00:15:26When we stepped off that plane
00:15:27in Orange County
00:15:28at John Wayne,
00:15:28we were like,
00:15:29oh, this is a cakewalk.
00:15:30Air conditioning.
00:15:31This is paradise over here.
00:15:32So the mentality
00:15:33that we had as a team
00:15:35after a Sean Payton training camp,
00:15:36it was like we're unbeatable.
00:15:38So I'd love to see that dynamic
00:15:39with the Denver Broncos.
00:15:40You talk about the Broncos.
00:15:41That's where I'll be
00:15:41on Back Together Saturday
00:15:42with Patrick Claibon.
00:15:43So you can, you know,
00:15:44throw me the ball there.
00:15:45But ultimately,
00:15:46I'm looking at the Raiders
00:15:47and staying in the same division.
00:15:49I love Pete Carroll.
00:15:49I love what Pete Carroll
00:15:50can do for culture shifting.
00:15:52What we've seen from Pete
00:15:53is a winning tradition.
00:15:54This is a franchise
00:15:55that needs a little bit
00:15:56of a culture shift, right?
00:15:57That was not a good run team
00:15:59last year.
00:15:59There were a lot of pieces
00:16:00that were,
00:16:01there were a lot of question marks.
00:16:02That's why there was
00:16:02so much change, right?
00:16:03So I'm looking at the opportunity
00:16:04for Gino Smith to succeed there.
00:16:06I'm looking at a run game
00:16:07with Ashton Gentry.
00:16:08I'm sure Matt Ty
00:16:09is pretty excited about that one.
00:16:10Obviously, there was an electric
00:16:11Brock Bauer season last year
00:16:13setting the record
00:16:14for rookie tight ends
00:16:15or for all tight ends
00:16:15in the rookie season.
00:16:16But ultimately,
00:16:17what I'm looking at here is
00:16:18what is it going to be like this year?
00:16:19You already know
00:16:20you have Max Frosby.
00:16:21He's a tone setter as well.
00:16:22So are those fundamental pieces
00:16:23going to translate to wins?
00:16:24I think we're going to see
00:16:25a Raiders team that is
00:16:26much, much, much improved
00:16:27very quickly
00:16:28because of the impact
00:16:29of getting the right voices in there,
00:16:31getting the right coach,
00:16:31getting the right situation,
00:16:32putting a quarterback
00:16:33who has that kind of understanding.
00:16:34I want to see how it looks.
00:16:35Talk about heat.
00:16:36They definitely know
00:16:36what the heat's like there
00:16:37in Vegas.
00:16:39I'm going to have to figure
00:16:39that one out.
00:16:41Florida people,
00:16:42how it's going to work.
00:16:42You don't have to tell.
00:16:43You got two Tampa people
00:16:44sitting on this side of the table.
00:16:45You don't have to tell.
00:16:46These Florida people,
00:16:47it's a different...
00:16:48You guys come here
00:16:48and you're living
00:16:49in air conditioning.
00:16:50It's so much nicer here.
00:16:51No, I stepped off the plane
00:16:52at LAX and it was under 70.
00:16:54Like, this is winter for us.
00:16:55Like, I mean,
00:16:56this is a training camp out here.
00:16:57I mean, you know,
00:16:58you mentioned New Orleans.
00:16:59I actually think Jacksonville
00:17:00is the steamiest
00:17:00of all of them
00:17:01that I've been to.
00:17:01I think Jacksonville,
00:17:02even more so than Tampa.
00:17:03It's just something
00:17:03steamy about being in Jacksonville.
00:17:05I don't know who's at Jacksonville
00:17:06back together weekend.
00:17:07It's not me,
00:17:08but bring a couple
00:17:09of shirts with you.
00:17:11It's the best time here.
00:17:11Listen, a la Jim Harbaugh
00:17:13peeking through the curtains
00:17:13going back to that again.
00:17:14If you're Jim Harbaugh right now,
00:17:15give me the player
00:17:16that you are excited
00:17:17to peek in on this week, Cynthia.
00:17:19I'm just looking at
00:17:20all of the rookie
00:17:21offensive linemen.
00:17:22Me specifically,
00:17:22Will.
00:17:22Cynthia loves some linemen.
00:17:23I love linemen.
00:17:24But this is actually a season
00:17:25where we saw a lot
00:17:26of drafted offensive lineman
00:17:27Will Campbell.
00:17:28You know, we talked a lot
00:17:29about his short arms.
00:17:30Are they going to matter?
00:17:30I don't actually think so.
00:17:31I think that, you know,
00:17:32Mike Grable will get
00:17:33that guy going.
00:17:34I want to know
00:17:34who the Patriots are.
00:17:35I think that's a team
00:17:36that could really be
00:17:36a really big problem.
00:17:37I don't think they
00:17:38supplant the Bills,
00:17:39but there's other teams
00:17:40in that division
00:17:40that they could surprise
00:17:41and sneak up on.
00:17:42So when I'm looking at
00:17:43Will Campbell,
00:17:44the expectations for him,
00:17:45the film from LSU
00:17:45was so good.
00:17:47I just want to see
00:17:47that translate on the field.
00:17:49And typically,
00:17:50offensive linemen
00:17:50are kind of an area
00:17:51where in training camp,
00:17:51you actually do get
00:17:52to see something.
00:17:53The rest of it,
00:17:53they show us like
00:17:54highlight reels,
00:17:54which is fun,
00:17:55but that's actually
00:17:56something where we can see it.
00:17:57Yeah, I want to see
00:17:58the guy that Jim Harbaugh
00:17:59was picking in on.
00:17:59I want to see Justin Herbert.
00:18:01I want to see this UV ray
00:18:02contacts that he was wearing
00:18:03made his eyes red.
00:18:04I want to see
00:18:05this whole new scheme.
00:18:06It's funny,
00:18:07going into this year,
00:18:08Greg Roman said that
00:18:09you're going to see
00:18:10a lot more runs
00:18:11by Justin Herbert,
00:18:12but every time I click
00:18:12on a highlight
00:18:13from Chargers camp,
00:18:14it's a bomb
00:18:14to some receiver.
00:18:16So I want to see
00:18:16this whole dynamic.
00:18:17I want to see
00:18:17Justin Herbert
00:18:18in the system
00:18:19for year two
00:18:20and see what kind of
00:18:21dynamic that is.
00:18:22So it's got to be
00:18:23for me,
00:18:23Justin Herbert.
00:18:24Man, I'm going to
00:18:25Heisman Trophy winner,
00:18:26Travis Hunter down there
00:18:27in steamy Jacksonville.
00:18:28Down there in steamy Jacksonville.
00:18:29All the hype around
00:18:30Travis Hunter.
00:18:30We know his athletic ability,
00:18:31what he can do,
00:18:32what kind of plays
00:18:33he can make,
00:18:33but I want to see,
00:18:34is he going to truly
00:18:35play both ways?
00:18:36He's down there
00:18:36with my former DB coach,
00:18:37Ron Miles,
00:18:38who was a technician genius.
00:18:39I know he will have him
00:18:40ready on the defensive side,
00:18:41but can he take on the toll,
00:18:42not only physically,
00:18:43but mentally?
00:18:44Being in the NFL,
00:18:45learning those playbooks
00:18:45are totally different
00:18:47than the playbooks
00:18:47that you're learning in college.
00:18:48I'm pulling for this kid.
00:18:49They're saying he's
00:18:50the best athlete
00:18:50since primetime Deion Sanders.
00:18:52I think he has
00:18:53the opportunity to be that,
00:18:54but can he handle it
00:18:55both mentally,
00:18:56physically,
00:18:56on both sides of the ball?
00:18:57Because look,
00:18:58you're going to be playing
00:18:58defense one week
00:18:59against Tyreek Hill,
00:19:00and then you're going to swap,
00:19:01and then you're going to be
00:19:01playing Jamar Chase,
00:19:02and then in that game,
00:19:03you're going to be playing
00:19:03another time.
00:19:04It's just so many athletes.
00:19:05These are the unicorns
00:19:06of the world.
00:19:06These are the unicorns
00:19:07of the world in the NFL.
00:19:08Can he do it week in,
00:19:09week out?
00:19:09I'm excited to see
00:19:10what Travis Hunter can do.
00:19:10I remember sitting at this table
00:19:12a couple of weeks ago,
00:19:13and Justin Reed was in here,
00:19:14and he was talking about
00:19:14just the meeting situation alone
00:19:16that he's going to have to be in.
00:19:18Travis Hunter is mind-blowing,
00:19:20and some people will say
00:19:21not even feasible,
00:19:22just the amount of time
00:19:23that you spend in a meeting room
00:19:24and how can you divide
00:19:24your time that way,
00:19:25and it started to make me think
00:19:26of these influencers
00:19:27that have those
00:19:28get ready with me.
00:19:29I want to see Travis Hunter's
00:19:30get ready with me scenario
00:19:32from morning wake-up time.
00:19:34I want a time-lapse
00:19:35of his entire day.
00:19:36By the way,
00:19:37I looked it up.
00:19:37It's Cam Wolf.
00:19:38Shout out Cam Wolf's
00:19:38got Jacksonville
00:19:39for Back Together weekend.
00:19:40But Cam was in Miami,
00:19:41so he's prepared.
00:19:42We've got to keep somebody
00:19:43down in the region.
00:19:43We're like,
00:19:43he knows what's coming there
00:19:44in Jacksonville.
00:19:45Three and out.
00:19:47Manti, we're told
00:19:48that you have inside information
00:19:49on this scenario, right?
00:19:51On a scale of 1 to 91,
00:19:53how confident are you
00:19:56in the Bengals
00:19:56getting a deal done
00:19:57with Trey Hendrickson?
00:19:59Well, you're the insider.
00:20:00I'm sorry,
00:20:00I should have teed you up
00:20:00as the insider.
00:20:01I'm not the insider.
00:20:02I'm just a brother
00:20:02of Trey Hendrickson,
00:20:03and I'm very grateful
00:20:04to have that relationship
00:20:04with him.
00:20:05I initially wanted to rate it
00:20:06a 57 because that's
00:20:07the amount of sacks
00:20:07that he's had
00:20:08for the Cincinnati Bengals
00:20:09ever since he became
00:20:09a Bengal.
00:20:10But I spoke to Trey yesterday.
00:20:12He called me,
00:20:13and we had a great conversation.
00:20:14And first and foremost,
00:20:15for Bengals fans,
00:20:15he wants to be
00:20:16a Cincinnati Bengal.
00:20:17That's number one.
00:20:18He's always wanted
00:20:19to stay in that city.
00:20:20He has a beautiful son now,
00:20:21him and his wife.
00:20:22They've established
00:20:23roots there.
00:20:23Let's get that squared away.
00:20:25But I said,
00:20:26so what's the status?
00:20:27He's like, number one,
00:20:27Tom P said he's not
00:20:28reporting to training camp.
00:20:29And I said, well,
00:20:30how far are you?
00:20:31How far are you off
00:20:32from them?
00:20:32He was like, bro,
00:20:33they are atrociously,
00:20:35atrociously low.
00:20:36And so because of that,
00:20:38I know it's 1-9-1, guys.
00:20:39It's a zero for me.
00:20:40Okay, based on my conversation
00:20:41with Trey, it's a zero.
00:20:42And I said, what's the deal?
00:20:44He's like, well,
00:20:44it's all about
00:20:45the guaranteed money.
00:20:46And Jalil, you know this.
00:20:47It doesn't matter
00:20:48what they post.
00:20:49When there is the words
00:20:50up to in a contract,
00:20:52you're getting paid this
00:20:53and it could be up to,
00:20:54you might as well
00:20:54just cancel whatever number
00:20:55comes after those words up to
00:20:57because it's never
00:20:57going to happen.
00:20:58Trey even told me
00:20:59that him and his representatives
00:21:00even offered
00:21:01to take less years
00:21:02to decrease the length
00:21:03of the contract.
00:21:04And the Bengals organization
00:21:05said no.
00:21:06So from somebody
00:21:07who's had 57 sacks for you,
00:21:09he led the NFL in sacks last year
00:21:11and he was one of the top
00:21:12the year before that.
00:21:13And he continues to be
00:21:14that four-year defense
00:21:15on a defense that doesn't have
00:21:16a lot of support there.
00:21:18Come on, Cincinnati.
00:21:19Like, you have
00:21:20the number one offense,
00:21:20but we learned last year
00:21:21that you could have
00:21:22the greatest offense on turf.
00:21:23But if you can't stop
00:21:24the opposing offense
00:21:25from scoring,
00:21:26you have no shot.
00:21:27And you're in the AFC North,
00:21:28which has some of the best
00:21:29quarterbacks,
00:21:30best offensive schemes
00:21:31in the NFL.
00:21:32So you better get
00:21:33number 91 out there.
00:21:34I don't know where
00:21:35the confusion is.
00:21:37I don't know what
00:21:38we're even talking about here.
00:21:39You have somebody
00:21:39that really loves
00:21:40the organization
00:21:41and really loves that city,
00:21:41really has done a lot
00:21:42for that city.
00:21:43So I went from 57
00:21:44to a big fat zero
00:21:45based on what my brother
00:21:46Trey said to me.
00:21:47So stop being so atrociously
00:21:48low, but Cincinnati.
00:21:49Let's go.
00:21:49I'll be like slightly
00:21:50more optimistic than you
00:21:51because you said 57
00:21:52was his total sacks.
00:21:53Well, last season
00:21:53it was 17 and a half.
00:21:54So I'm going 17 and a half
00:21:55out of 91
00:21:56because that is the number
00:21:58of sacks that led
00:21:58the league last year
00:21:59and that was what he did.
00:22:01And he, by the way,
00:22:01did that same number
00:22:02the year prior as well.
00:22:03So consistency,
00:22:04something to rely on up front.
00:22:06This is a big deal,
00:22:07especially when you look at
00:22:07since that Super Bowl season,
00:22:09look at the back end.
00:22:10You guys always talk about
00:22:11the front and the back.
00:22:11They have to work together.
00:22:12Let's see who they've
00:22:13had in the Super Bowl season.
00:22:14They had Jesse Bates,
00:22:15Vaughn Bell,
00:22:16Jadobio Wuzier.
00:22:17Now what?
00:22:18It's a very,
00:22:19there are very few holdovers
00:22:20from when they were
00:22:21very successful
00:22:22to what's gone on
00:22:23the past two seasons, right?
00:22:24So when you're looking
00:22:25at Trey Hendrickson,
00:22:26why are you not?
00:22:27You talk about
00:22:27where is the disconnect?
00:22:29I'm unclear as well
00:22:30because it seems like
00:22:31we talked about this
00:22:32where you knew
00:22:32this was coming.
00:22:33You knew he was unhappy.
00:22:34I think he signed a deal
00:22:35in COVID times
00:22:35when things were
00:22:37a little bit more murky.
00:22:38I believe it was probably
00:22:39with some sort of
00:22:40thoughtfulness towards
00:22:41if you perform well,
00:22:42we will pay you
00:22:42and figure this out
00:22:43and that hasn't happened.
00:22:44So now, okay,
00:22:45this is where we're at.
00:22:47Yeah, I love it
00:22:47with both of you guys said
00:22:48and I'm going to say this.
00:22:49I'm going to go three numbers
00:22:50and you're going to ask why.
00:22:52I'm going one,
00:22:53five and nine.
00:22:54Separate.
00:22:55Separate.
00:22:56That's why they're so far apart.
00:22:57You see the spacing?
00:22:58So one, Jamar Chase.
00:23:00Five, Tee Higgins.
00:23:01Nine, Joe Burrow.
00:23:02And I say this because
00:23:02they just broke the bank
00:23:03on all three of those guys.
00:23:04And at this point in time,
00:23:05it's almost like
00:23:06that organization
00:23:07needs to file bankruptcy
00:23:08because of how much money
00:23:09they've spent on them.
00:23:10And I don't think
00:23:10it's necessarily the fact
00:23:11that they don't want
00:23:12to sign Trey.
00:23:13I just don't think
00:23:13the money's there.
00:23:14And like you said,
00:23:15he's been very productive,
00:23:16the best defensive player
00:23:16on the team for the longest.
00:23:17And the last time
00:23:18the Bengals had signed
00:23:19anybody on the defensive side
00:23:20was Geno Atkins
00:23:21and Carlos Dunlap
00:23:21who were superstars
00:23:23for them on the defensive side.
00:23:23And that was under
00:23:24a different regime, right?
00:23:25So this is a whole different regime.
00:23:26And obviously,
00:23:27they're focused on the offense.
00:23:32I thought the Chargers
00:23:32were going to be a spot for him.
00:23:34I think they could have
00:23:34saved that money
00:23:34and would have been able
00:23:35to pay Trey.
00:23:36But obviously,
00:23:37they haven't done that.
00:23:38And they went that route
00:23:39on focusing on the offense.
00:23:40And I think that's the sole reason
00:23:41why Trey Henderson
00:23:42is on the highway
00:23:43in Florida right now
00:23:43in 95-degree weather
00:23:44on sunrise.
00:23:45Yeah, and to add
00:23:46to everybody's point,
00:23:47you know who their
00:23:47defensive coordinator is?
00:23:48Al Golden.
00:23:49Al Golden was with Notre Dame
00:23:49the past few years.
00:23:50And what does Al Golden
00:23:51want to do?
00:23:51He wants to blitz
00:23:52and he wants to play man pressure.
00:23:53And you talk about
00:23:54the back end and the front.
00:23:55If you don't have a rush, guys,
00:23:56your DBs are going
00:23:57to get torched.
00:23:58So if you don't have
00:23:59number 91 out there,
00:24:00you're going to get torched.
00:24:00And so for the Cincinnati Bengals,
00:24:02let's make this thing happen.
00:24:04And I want to make
00:24:05a point real quick.
00:24:05We talked about
00:24:06Lamar Jackson and fantasy.
00:24:07And that's a guy
00:24:08that you have to go through
00:24:08if you want to win a division.
00:24:09Right?
00:24:10That's a guy you have to go through
00:24:11twice if you want to win a division.
00:24:12I keep saying it.
00:24:13Rush and cover work together.
00:24:14You can have the best
00:24:14secondary in the world
00:24:15if you don't get pressure
00:24:16on a guy like Lamar Jackson,
00:24:17if you don't disrupt his timing,
00:24:18if you don't get the ball
00:24:19out of his hands quickly,
00:24:19it's going to be
00:24:20a long afternoon for you.
00:24:21And that's what it's going to be
00:24:22if you don't sign
00:24:23Trey Anderson back
00:24:23to have that pressure
00:24:25on Lamar Jackson
00:24:25early and often
00:24:26when you play them.
00:24:27And would you say
00:24:27this is the best
00:24:28secondary ever?
00:24:29Absolutely, positively not.
00:24:30Right.
00:24:31So my favorite thing
00:24:32about working with Manti
00:24:32is that he calls
00:24:33everything I do
00:24:34a presentation.
00:24:35So he's like,
00:24:35welcome to my fantasy
00:24:36quarterback presentation.
00:24:37Not just a segment.
00:24:38You can get a segment
00:24:39on another network.
00:24:39This is a presentation.
00:24:40All right.
00:24:41At number 10,
00:24:42we've got Brock Purdy.
00:24:44Brock Purdy,
00:24:44a resurgent season.
00:24:45I had the 49ers
00:24:46with at least
00:24:47double-digit wins,
00:24:48probably 11.
00:24:49and that's the number.
00:24:49It sounds low,
00:24:50but remember,
00:24:50it's the beginning of the season.
00:24:51It's always low.
00:24:52Brock Purdy,
00:24:52the opportunity here
00:24:53for him to succeed
00:24:54in this season.
00:24:55The man has some,
00:24:56you know,
00:24:56some money now.
00:24:57There's expectations.
00:24:58So ultimately,
00:24:59he comes in at number 10.
00:25:01It's all about
00:25:01throwing quarterbacks.
00:25:02At number nine,
00:25:02Sarah,
00:25:03are you ready for it?
00:25:03It's Baker Mayfield.
00:25:04You'll see a lot of him
00:25:05yet again.
00:25:06Baker Mayfield,
00:25:07Mike Evans still there.
00:25:07Check.
00:25:08The passing game still there.
00:25:09Check.
00:25:09This is an opportunity
00:25:10for Baker to yet again
00:25:11be a stud in your fantasy.
00:25:12I don't think he was
00:25:13in my top 10 last season,
00:25:14so pretty happy
00:25:14about that one.
00:25:15At number eight,
00:25:16we got our sophomore,
00:25:18Bo Nix.
00:25:18You talked about that.
00:25:19Both of you like that one?
00:25:20Oh, I don't know.
00:25:21Wow.
00:25:21Sneaky one.
00:25:21It was a surround sound.
00:25:22Don't let the secrets
00:25:24out too early.
00:25:24Don't let the secrets
00:25:25out too early.
00:25:26Well, here's the thing
00:25:26about Bo Nix.
00:25:27Remember,
00:25:27the guy also uses his legs
00:25:29more than you even think,
00:25:30so those count
00:25:31for fantasy points as well.
00:25:32Remember,
00:25:32it's not just about
00:25:33who's the best quarterback.
00:25:34It's about who scores you points.
00:25:35So Bo Nix,
00:25:36he's going to score you
00:25:36those touchdowns.
00:25:37He's going to get you
00:25:37those rushing yards.
00:25:38It's a nice mix of both.
00:25:40Speaking of rushing yards,
00:25:41at number seven,
00:25:42it's Kyler Murray.
00:25:43He feels like
00:25:44the video game cheat code.
00:25:45It's like that weird
00:25:46bootleg drop back
00:25:46to the left thing.
00:25:47Like, that thing
00:25:47always gets you points.
00:25:48It's like the,
00:25:49he plays a lot of video games.
00:25:50He is some sort of
00:25:51left, right, left, right,
00:25:52up, down,
00:25:52whatever that thing was.
00:25:53The right analog stick.
00:25:53Yeah, exactly.
00:25:54Exactly.
00:25:55You know exactly
00:25:55what I'm talking about.
00:25:56A full season of him
00:25:57being healthy means
00:25:58a full season
00:25:58of fantasy points for you.
00:26:00At number six,
00:26:01Patrick Mahomes.
00:26:02Remember,
00:26:02this is a list
00:26:02of fantasy quarterbacks.
00:26:04Not who's the best quarterback.
00:26:06It's not windshare.
00:26:06That's a whole different thing.
00:26:07This is a fantasy situation.
00:26:08Last year,
00:26:09we saw a lot of
00:26:09one possession games.
00:26:10You know what the thing
00:26:11about math is?
00:26:11Yeah, you regress to the mean
00:26:12over a long amount of time.
00:26:14It doesn't matter.
00:26:14Patrick Mahomes,
00:26:15he's going to regress up
00:26:16in that touchdown number
00:26:17this season.
00:26:1726, that feels like
00:26:18a very, very low floor.
00:26:20You know,
00:26:21maybe go up eight or nine
00:26:21touchdowns from there
00:26:22as your base.
00:26:23So, Patrick Mahomes,
00:26:24fully, you want him in fantasy.
00:26:25Number five,
00:26:26Jaden Daniels.
00:26:27We always talk about
00:26:28the dual threat, guys.
00:26:29You like Daniels?
00:26:30Yeah, yeah.
00:26:31It's going to be a good pick.
00:26:31Number one.
00:26:32Fantasy two.
00:26:32He's your number one?
00:26:33Number one.
00:26:33You didn't even let her finish, Manti.
00:26:34Let her finish the presentation
00:26:35before you start.
00:26:36Number one.
00:26:36Listen, this is my presentation, Manti.
00:26:39You can have your presentation
00:26:40next segment.
00:26:42Give me my slide deck PowerPoint.
00:26:44That's my pass.
00:26:45Anyways,
00:26:45Lamar Jackson comes in
00:26:46at number four.
00:26:47This is an interesting one
00:26:48because when you have a guy
00:26:49like Derrick Henry
00:26:50there with you,
00:26:51sometimes he steals
00:26:51your fantasy rushing yards.
00:26:53So, it actually kind of
00:26:54goes both ways.
00:26:55Lamar steals from Derrick.
00:26:56Derrick steals from Lamar.
00:26:57It's good for the Ravens
00:26:58all around,
00:26:58but maybe for your fantasy purposes,
00:27:00just kind of figure that one out
00:27:01a little bit differently.
00:27:02Those four interceptions,
00:27:03that number could potentially go up.
00:27:05Why?
00:27:05Because that's, again,
00:27:06one of those things.
00:27:06Regression works both ways.
00:27:08At number three,
00:27:09Tush Push still there?
00:27:10Tush Push.
00:27:10You get the same amount of points
00:27:11for a Tush Push.
00:27:12Put a Tush Push
00:27:13as you do for a regular run.
00:27:14It doesn't matter.
00:27:14You still get those fantasy points
00:27:16for you.
00:27:16Jalen Hurts had a billion Tush Pushes.
00:27:18I think we go for a billion
00:27:19plus another season of a billion
00:27:20this year.
00:27:21Jalen Hurts,
00:27:21it's a guy you want.
00:27:22Always.
00:27:22Six points on the one yard line.
00:27:23Give it to me.
00:27:24You don't even have to do it.
00:27:25Somebody else does it for him
00:27:26and you get the fantasy points.
00:27:27It works out really well.
00:27:28We've been talking about this guy,
00:27:29next guy's defense all morning.
00:27:31Well, when you don't have
00:27:32a strong defense,
00:27:32you're going to have to score
00:27:33even more points, right?
00:27:34So Joe Burrow,
00:27:35he could probably,
00:27:36this is a guy who I project
00:27:37to lead the league
00:27:38in passing touchdowns
00:27:39and it's not even close.
00:27:40So if you're keeping track
00:27:41of those things at home,
00:27:42I think that this is Joe Burrow.
00:27:43So it could get up to 50
00:27:44this year, guys.
00:27:45He is a good runner, too.
00:27:47He is a good runner,
00:27:47but I'm just talking about
00:27:48that they're going to need to be,
00:27:49that defense gave up 25 points
00:27:51per game last season
00:27:51and that was when they had
00:27:53Trey Hendrickson out there.
00:27:54He's in Florida, by the way,
00:27:55if you haven't seen
00:27:55the social media.
00:27:56On the freeway.
00:27:57On the freeway.
00:27:58A lonely drive.
00:27:59Maybe I-10 if you're
00:28:00going to Jacksonville.
00:28:01Maybe right down 95.
00:28:03I don't know.
00:28:03All we know is location Florida.
00:28:04He just wants a good sweat, Sarah.
00:28:05He just wants a good sweat.
00:28:06And at number one,
00:28:08this guy is number one
00:28:09last season.
00:28:10He'll be number one next season
00:28:11until he's not.
00:28:12The rushing plus passing
00:28:13capabilities of Josh Allen
00:28:15are the reason that
00:28:16your Buffalo Bills quarterback,
00:28:17the reigning MVP of the league,
00:28:18that's the guy who's going
00:28:19to be your fantasy
00:28:20number one as well.
00:28:21Manti, do you know
00:28:22when you should optimally
00:28:23draft a quarterback?
00:28:24Women.
00:28:25Not till late,
00:28:25because the difference
00:28:26between quarterback one
00:28:27and quarterback 10
00:28:27isn't that much.
00:28:28So that's for your fantasy draft.
00:28:29Maybe you don't get
00:28:30Josh Allen in that case,
00:28:31but the difference
00:28:31between one and,
00:28:32I don't know,
00:28:33Kyler Murray isn't that high,
00:28:34so you certainly want
00:28:35to make sure and not
00:28:36over-draft.
00:28:36I feel like that's hard
00:28:37for people, though.
00:28:38It's hard.
00:28:38I hear what you're saying
00:28:38because it's your fantasy team,
00:28:40right, so you want to be
00:28:40into your guy
00:28:41and it's the quarterback thing.
00:28:42That's really good advice
00:28:43because I think you can know that
00:28:44and Cindy can tell you that
00:28:45and she can crunch the numbers.
00:28:46I say it every year.
00:28:47Blue in the face.
00:28:48Yeah, but you want
00:28:48to grab your guy.
00:28:49And you do want to grab your guy.
00:28:50You want to like him,
00:28:51but I don't know,
00:28:51I kind of like all these guys.
00:28:52So there's a lot to love
00:28:53about each and every one of them.
00:28:54So if you don't necessarily
00:28:55get Josh Allen,
00:28:56you can fall in love
00:28:56with Joe Burrow.
00:28:58Jalen Hurts, Lamar's...
00:28:59What's not to like?
00:28:59You can fall in love
00:29:00with Rockery.
00:29:00There are some missing people
00:29:01in here, though, Cynthia.
00:29:02Who's missing?
00:29:02Talk to me.
00:29:03You got Jared Goff.
00:29:04Yep.
00:29:04Jared Goff's 11.
00:29:05Jordan Love.
00:29:06Jared Goff's 11.
00:29:07Well, we don't know, Cynthia.
00:29:07That wasn't in the presentation,
00:29:08so you could just be
00:29:09saying that right now.
00:29:10It's in the appendix.
00:29:10I will circulate the deck later
00:29:13so you can see it in the appendix.
00:29:14Who else, Jared Goff,
00:29:14and who else do you think?
00:29:15Jordan Love.
00:29:16I thought you were
00:29:16going to say Justin Herbert,
00:29:17but they run the ball.
00:29:18Justin Herbert.
00:29:19They run the ball a lot,
00:29:20so that's, remember,
00:29:21you have to...
00:29:22Where's Dak in your rankings,
00:29:24Cynthia?
00:29:25Dak's not...
00:29:26Dak's not...
00:29:26I wouldn't draft him.
00:29:27There's usually 12 people.
00:29:28He ain't in the 10.
00:29:29He's not in the 12, so...
00:29:30Oh!
00:29:31He's not in the 12?
00:29:32I got you.
00:29:32Be careful.
00:29:33I got you.
00:29:33Be careful.
00:29:34I do love it.
00:29:35Don't get me wrong.
00:29:36I just...
00:29:36I'm going with...
00:29:37You know, there's a formula that...
00:29:38I do love this list, Cynthia.
00:29:40I think the biggest surprise,
00:29:41to me, honestly,
00:29:41is Patrick Mahomes in this
00:29:43because from a fantasy perspective,
00:29:45he does do a lot of things,
00:29:48but when it comes to getting targets
00:29:50and throwing the ball
00:29:50in the past couple years,
00:29:51you know, Cynthia,
00:29:52you're the guru at this.
00:29:53The past few years,
00:29:54there hasn't been that type of production
00:29:55from him and from a fantasy perspective,
00:29:56so that's one of those things
00:29:58I like, man,
00:29:58Cynthia knows something
00:29:59that I don't know,
00:30:00so that's the one
00:30:00I'm keeping my eye on.
00:30:01We talked about this yesterday.
00:30:02Andy Reid with some time
00:30:04rebuilding the left side
00:30:05of that offensive line,
00:30:06figuring out a new kind of situation
00:30:08with maybe a little bit
00:30:09greater running back health
00:30:10and consistency in the run game.
00:30:11That will all help Patrick Mahomes
00:30:12in the passing game.
00:30:13Rashid Rice.
00:30:14There's a lot of ways
00:30:15to take a big step forward,
00:30:16and I actually think,
00:30:17you know,
00:30:17Travis Kelsey's not my number one
00:30:18tight end this year,
00:30:19but fully draftable.
00:30:20Last year,
00:30:20he was not a great fantasy tight end.
00:30:22He was a great real tight end,
00:30:23but a fantasy tight end,
00:30:24not so great.
00:30:24This year,
00:30:24fully draftable for me.
00:30:25I think those things
00:30:26all come around year in and year out
00:30:27to kind of change things around.
00:30:28Cynthia, I love your list,
00:30:30and like they say,
00:30:30you learn something every day.
00:30:31I appreciate it,
00:30:32but I will say,
00:30:33Florida boy to Florida boy,
00:30:35I got to move him up.
00:30:37I understand.
00:30:37I understand.
00:30:38I understand.
00:30:39Derrick Henry takes away his touches.
00:30:40One thing about Lamar Jackson,
00:30:41playing against him,
00:30:42watching him the last few years,
00:30:43we know he's going to put up points.
00:30:44We know he's going to get points,
00:30:45not on the board,
00:30:46but in fantasy.
00:30:47I love your list, Cynthia,
00:30:47once again,
00:30:48but Lamar Jackson,
00:30:49I have to see him scoot.
00:30:50I would put him at probably 2-3,
00:30:52but I love what you got going on.
00:30:54Florida boy to Florida boy,
00:30:54Lamar Jackson,
00:30:55got to bump him up, baby.
00:30:56I mean, I'm with you.
00:30:58I'm saying, again,
00:30:58that's the difference between
00:30:59like fantasy and reality, right?
00:31:01Because I'm not saying,
00:31:02these aren't my like,
00:31:02who's the best quarterbacks in the league,
00:31:03although that's pretty close,
00:31:04not too far off,
00:31:05but you know,
00:31:06we're good here.
00:31:07It slows the pace down
00:31:08when you run a lot.
00:31:09You got any more presentations for us?
00:31:10Listen, there will be
00:31:11further presentations later.
00:31:12We'll circle back,
00:31:13run it up the flagpole,
00:31:14and then I'll check with my boss.
00:31:15All week long.
00:31:15We got Mike Williams
00:31:16informed the team this week
00:31:17that he is retiring from the NFL.
00:31:18So that takes us to second down.
00:31:20What player needs to step up
00:31:22for the Chargers offense
00:31:23this season, Cynthia?
00:31:25Well, unsurprisingly,
00:31:26I'm going with the O-line.
00:31:27You want your,
00:31:27you want your,
00:31:28do you want your wide receiver
00:31:29to have a chance to catch the ball?
00:31:31Do you want your quarterback
00:31:31to have a chance to throw the ball?
00:31:32Well, they bring in Mekhi Becton.
00:31:34His nickname is Big Ticket.
00:31:35With your nickname is Big Ticket,
00:31:36you come for the Eagles
00:31:37and then formerly the Jets.
00:31:38You have big expectations.
00:31:39They're going to be playing him now
00:31:40at right guard, presumably.
00:31:41So when I'm looking
00:31:42at the opportunity here,
00:31:43this is a guy who they,
00:31:44it seemed like they had,
00:31:45they targeted in free agency.
00:31:46It was someone that they seemed
00:31:47to put a lot of emphasis on getting.
00:31:49You put that kind of emphasis.
00:31:50If Jim Harbaugh says he wants you
00:31:52and they all go out
00:31:53and get him in this way,
00:31:54the expectations couldn't be any bigger
00:31:55because that's what kind of helps
00:31:56make everything else go.
00:31:59to step up.
00:32:00Big ticket, big payday, big human being.
00:32:01I love that addition for the Chargers.
00:32:03I'm going to stay with the Chargers
00:32:04because the guy that I think
00:32:06that needs to step up in this year
00:32:07is Quentin Johnson.
00:32:08Jaleel, you alluded to it earlier in the show
00:32:10about having somebody
00:32:11that can take the attention
00:32:12off of Vlad McConkie.
00:32:13That's what you need.
00:32:14You even just mentioned T. Higgins
00:32:15and the possibility of going to the Chargers.
00:32:16That would have been scary.
00:32:17But he has, in his short career so far,
00:32:20had this problem with dropping catches.
00:32:23And that's something that,
00:32:24for somebody who knows the mental battle
00:32:25and just the confidence,
00:32:27the lack of confidence,
00:32:28coming from TCU,
00:32:29he was this big target,
00:32:30very fast.
00:32:31And so there was an expectation for him.
00:32:32It's been a little rough
00:32:33in his short career so far.
00:32:33However, with somebody like Jim Harbaugh
00:32:35instilling that confidence in you,
00:32:37that belief,
00:32:37you see the mic'd up comments
00:32:39that Jim Harbaugh says to his players.
00:32:41I'm expecting him
00:32:42to have a better year
00:32:43because the Chargers
00:32:44are going to need that from him
00:32:45in order to have a successful offense
00:32:47going into 2025.
00:32:48Yeah, man, Ty,
00:32:48I'm going to sound like a broken record
00:32:49when I say I'm piggybacking
00:32:50off of what you said,
00:32:51but it has to be
00:32:51Quentin Johnson this year.
00:32:52Obviously, Mike Williams
00:32:53was going to be that deep threat
00:32:54for Justin Herbert.
00:32:54Herbert has a big arm,
00:32:55rocking for an arm.
00:32:56Quentin Johnson has to be
00:32:57that guy for him.
00:32:58Obviously, I did the Chargers
00:32:59coaching internship
00:33:00for two years in a row.
00:33:01I came in when Quentin Johnson
00:33:02was a rookie there,
00:33:03and he had a really,
00:33:04really strong camp both years.
00:33:05So it's been surprising to me
00:33:06that he gets into the season
00:33:07and then he has those drop problems.
00:33:09I still believe,
00:33:10as a former Chargers,
00:33:10someone who studies the Chargers,
00:33:11someone who watches Chargers,
00:33:12he still can be that next big threat
00:33:14for them down the field
00:33:14that will open up
00:33:15the intermediate routes
00:33:16for Ladd McConkley,
00:33:17and it will open up
00:33:18the run game as well, right?
00:33:19Because you play the Chargers right now,
00:33:20you're stacking the box,
00:33:21and you say,
00:33:21you're going to have to beat us,
00:33:22and we're going to double Ladd.
00:33:23Somebody has to open up
00:33:24the offense so they can
00:33:25expand the playbook,
00:33:26and I think Quentin Johnson has it.
00:33:27None of the other receivers.
00:33:28No one else there?
00:33:29There's nobody.
00:33:30Be honest with you,
00:33:30there's nobody else there right now.
00:33:31If you're going into the game
00:33:32against the Chargers,
00:33:33who are you going to game plan
00:33:34for at wide receiver right now
00:33:35other than Ladd McConkley?
00:33:36Who?
00:33:36And Mike Williams
00:33:37would have been that guy,
00:33:38and that's why I want to see
00:33:39them in training camp.
00:33:39Who's going to be that guy
00:33:40to step up?
00:33:40Quentin Johnson has to be
00:33:41that guy to step up
00:33:42because if I'm a DB,
00:33:43I'm watching film on Ladd,
00:33:44and I'm going to say,
00:33:44you know what?
00:33:45Coach, we call him Jags.
00:33:46They're just a guy,
00:33:47and he's not a guy
00:33:47that we're going to be scared of.
00:33:49They're not a guy
00:33:49that we're going to roll
00:33:49our defense to.
00:33:50The only person you're doing that for
00:33:51in the Chargers offense right now,
00:33:52respectfully, is Ladd McConkley.
00:33:54It's from Tampa.
00:33:55Michael Penix Jr.
00:33:56When we talk about
00:33:56big expectations on offensive guys,
00:33:59Falcons receiver,
00:33:59we're talking about guys
00:34:00needing to step up in receivers.
00:34:01Ray Ray McLeod,
00:34:02he's high on Atlanta.
00:34:03I mean, he should be
00:34:03at this time of year, right?
00:34:04Making it to the big game
00:34:06behind the strong left arm
00:34:07of their second year signal caller
00:34:09who hails from our area, Jaleel.
00:34:11Falcons wide receiver,
00:34:12Ray Ray McLeod said this
00:34:14via pro football network.
00:34:15I'm excited,
00:34:16and I'm not going to be surprised
00:34:17by any of it.
00:34:18I've watched Penix every day
00:34:19for the last year at practice,
00:34:20and I'm just ready to see him
00:34:22go into an experienced year,
00:34:24a polished year,
00:34:25and see how it goes.
00:34:26Go all the way to the Super Bowl.
00:34:29Now, in fairness,
00:34:31I think anytime somebody
00:34:32at this time of year goes,
00:34:32whoa, this guy's talking about...
00:34:33Look, he should be talking
00:34:35about the Super Bowl,
00:34:35should he not?
00:34:36I mean, there's not somebody
00:34:37out there that should be like,
00:34:38if they go,
00:34:38you think you're going to win
00:34:39the Super Bowl?
00:34:40Who's going to go?
00:34:41I don't think so,
00:34:41but I've got to show up to work.
00:34:42You know what I mean?
00:34:43So, like, I just want to, like,
00:34:44set the tone with that.
00:34:45Of course he should think that.
00:34:46Your thoughts.
00:34:47Well, it's the same hyperbole
00:34:49that all players should go through.
00:34:51I mean, to your point, sir,
00:34:52I'm not going to say it.
00:34:53I don't think we're going to win
00:34:53the Super Bowl with Michael Penix
00:34:54if I play for the Falcons,
00:34:55but my reaction to that
00:34:57is calm what they play.
00:34:58Like, just relax, bro.
00:34:59Like, it's still preseason.
00:35:01It's not even preseason.
00:35:02Like, it's training camp.
00:35:03Let's just relax, okay?
00:35:04Let's not set an expectation
00:35:06for the public
00:35:07to just scrutinize all the time.
00:35:08Let's just let the young man,
00:35:10he hasn't played a full year yet,
00:35:11let's let the young man
00:35:12develop and polish
00:35:13and get comfortable in the system.
00:35:14It's the same thing
00:35:15for J.J. McCarthy.
00:35:16Let's just relax, okay?
00:35:17Let these guys get some reps.
00:35:18Let them get some games.
00:35:19Let them make their mistakes,
00:35:20more importantly,
00:35:21because they are still
00:35:21relatively young,
00:35:22and then we can start
00:35:24a narrative from there.
00:35:25So I'm just saying,
00:35:25hey, calm down.
00:35:27I'm thinking maybe
00:35:28he should have set
00:35:29a more modest goal.
00:35:30Like, we're going to try
00:35:31to win the division.
00:35:31Like, let's get there first,
00:35:32and then we'll see
00:35:33how the postseason goes.
00:35:34And then you land
00:35:35amongst whatever it is.
00:35:36I don't know.
00:35:36But I get it.
00:35:40Like, if I'm going to be,
00:35:41if someone's running
00:35:41and trying to hit me
00:35:42for a living,
00:35:42I want to believe
00:35:43I can win the Super Bowl, too,
00:35:44because that seems like
00:35:44a good opportunity.
00:35:45But I'm thinking
00:35:46winning the division.
00:35:47You haven't even,
00:35:48like, the Bucs have beaten you
00:35:49in the last season this time.
00:35:51What were we talking about?
00:35:51It's the Falcons division.
00:35:53They've got Kirk Cousins now.
00:35:54They're going to win.
00:35:54It's going to be the Falcons,
00:35:55the Falcons, Falcons, Falcons.
00:35:56And what happened?
00:35:57The Bucs won again.
00:35:58So when I'm saying,
00:35:59you know, pump the brakes,
00:36:00just say, hey,
00:36:01we're really going to,
00:36:02we're going to really
00:36:02going to compete in the division
00:36:03because that's how you
00:36:03get into the postseason
00:36:04and that's how you get
00:36:04into the playoffs.
00:36:05So I'm thinking maybe
00:36:06let's just focus on postseason
00:36:09and start from there.
00:36:11They have a hard schedule.
00:36:12They play the NFC West.
00:36:13Like, it's not an easy schedule.
00:36:14Let's win the division.
00:36:15That sounds great.
00:36:17I mean, look,
00:36:18I love Ray Ray McLeod's confidence.
00:36:19I do.
00:36:20And I know Ray Ray personally.
00:36:21Tampa guy, Penix,
00:36:21Tampa guy, Ray Ray's my boy.
00:36:23But in the words of Lee Corso,
00:36:25not so fast.
00:36:26Not so fast.
00:36:27I just can't see it, right?
00:36:28Obviously, Penix spins it.
00:36:29Has a beautiful left arm.
00:36:31Distributes the ball really well.
00:36:31Very accurate.
00:36:32I'm very high on him.
00:36:33He came in last year
00:36:34and made a lot of throws.
00:36:35He brought the Falcons back
00:36:36from games that they were down
00:36:38and he showed a lot of
00:36:39promising attributes
00:36:40that you want as a starting quarterback.
00:36:41But to say you're going
00:36:41to the Super Bowl with him,
00:36:42like you guys said,
00:36:43let's win the division first.
00:36:44Let's get a berth into the playoffs.
00:36:46Let's get a playoff win
00:36:47and then we'll talk.
00:36:48I have four kids
00:36:48and I always tell them,
00:36:49you got to crawl before you walk.
00:36:52There's a guy,
00:36:52there's a team that's crawling
00:36:53and they crawled last year
00:36:54and they're walking
00:36:54and I think they might start jogging.
00:36:56You better watch out
00:36:56from Carolina Panthers.
00:36:57That's what Dave Canales
00:36:58got going over there.
00:36:59Bryce Young and the momentum
00:37:00that they had going into
00:37:01at the end of 2024.
00:37:02Guys, watch out now.
00:37:04Yes, sir.
00:37:04I still think it's,
00:37:05I mean, what's Todd Bowles doing?
00:37:07Nothing?
00:37:07I mean, he's not winning.
00:37:08Well, I'm not just kidding
00:37:09the Bucs.
00:37:10What I am saying is
00:37:11every single year,
00:37:12the Carolina Panthers
00:37:13are a team that nobody talks about,
00:37:15but the momentum that they had,
00:37:16the confidence that Bryce Young
00:37:17played with late into that season,
00:37:19the defense hanging around
00:37:20with the Eagles
00:37:21during that game in Carolina.
00:37:22Watch out for those Carolina Panthers
00:37:24in the NFC South
00:37:25and obviously you've got
00:37:26to take into consideration
00:37:26the Bucs and the Saints.
00:37:28I don't want to get butchered
00:37:28by my former team.
00:37:29Wait a minute.
00:37:29You have to take into consideration
00:37:31the Bucs.
00:37:31Manti, they win every year.
00:37:32See, this is the thing.
00:37:33The Tampa people are offended
00:37:34and I can speak to this
00:37:36living down there.
00:37:36They always feel like
00:37:37just the fact that
00:37:38taking into consideration,
00:37:38they're like,
00:37:39no, we've been running away
00:37:40with this thing.
00:37:40Now, wait a minute.
00:37:41Let me back that up.
00:37:41Not running away.
00:37:42It's not like their record
00:37:43is like insane running away,
00:37:44but at the end of the year
00:37:45for year after year,
00:37:46they're winning it
00:37:47and I feel like every year
00:37:48it's sexier to start the year
00:37:50by saying this is it.
00:37:51Like, the narrative has been
00:37:53that every year so far.
00:37:54It happened when Carr
00:37:55went to the Saints.
00:37:55That's their division.
00:37:56Now it's the Saints division.
00:37:57It happened when Kirk Cousins
00:37:58went to Atlanta.
00:37:59Now the Falcons are going to win.
00:38:00Every year, they're discounted
00:38:01and every year,
00:38:02Baker, Cynthia was talking
00:38:04about fantasy football quarterbacks
00:38:05and had Baker in the top 10.
00:38:06New offensive coordinator this year.
00:38:07You know what he had last year?
00:38:08A new offensive coordinator.
00:38:09You know what he had the year before?
00:38:09A new offensive coordinator.
00:38:10It really hasn't mattered for them.
00:38:12Michigan person stuck out
00:38:12for the Tampa people.
00:38:13I would like to weigh that out.
00:38:14I love Tampa,
00:38:15but all I'm saying is
00:38:16there's nobody in the NFC South
00:38:17right now that's riding off
00:38:18into the sunset
00:38:18like Trey Hendrickson
00:38:19in Florida right now.
00:38:19That's all I'm saying.
00:38:20That's all I'm saying
00:38:21about this situation.
00:38:23Welcome back to GMFB.
00:38:24Joining us now,
00:38:25longtime sports writer
00:38:26and World Series
00:38:27of poker commentator
00:38:28Norman Chad with us.
00:38:32We're told big NFL fan.
00:38:34Since I was that big.
00:38:35Who's your team?
00:38:36My team is the Pittsburgh Steelers.
00:38:38I literally have never
00:38:39been to Pittsburgh.
00:38:40Well then, how's this your team?
00:38:41When I was a kid,
00:38:42I liked Franco Harris
00:38:43and I liked Terry Bradshaw
00:38:44and I liked Mean Joe Green.
00:38:45I just started rooting
00:38:46for the Pittsburgh Steelers
00:38:47when I was about 10 years old.
00:38:48Do you like those uniforms
00:38:48I just showed?
00:38:49Those throwbacks?
00:38:50No, I do not.
00:38:52I don't either.
00:38:53Yeah.
00:38:53They're like jockeys.
00:38:54They're like the Power Rangers
00:38:55on the yellow range.
00:38:55Guys, they're throwbacks.
00:38:56Come on, get into it.
00:38:56Get into the spirit.
00:38:57All right, here's what we're going to do.
00:38:58We're really going to get
00:38:58into the spirit clearly
00:38:59of poker here
00:38:59and play a little bit of poker.
00:39:01We're going to deal out five cards.
00:39:02These cards are going to be
00:39:03the hand that Norman is dealt.
00:39:04Each card has a topic on it.
00:39:05We're going to flip them over
00:39:06one by one.
00:39:06So are we dealing these out now?
00:39:07Are we just grabbing one of these?
00:39:09This is the first one.
00:39:10Here you go.
00:39:10Okay.
00:39:10So now I have a card.
00:39:11Am I flipping this over?
00:39:12Yes.
00:39:12I'm flipping this over to show over.
00:39:13Oh, let me do it this way?
00:39:14Yes.
00:39:14Is this work TV-wise?
00:39:16Okay, we've obviously
00:39:16blocked this out correctly.
00:39:17You're a big,
00:39:18you're a big,
00:39:19big on rehearsals here, right, Norm?
00:39:21Big NFL fan,
00:39:22tell us how you spend
00:39:23your Sundays watching the games.
00:39:24Well, first of all,
00:39:25when I moved from Washington,
00:39:26D.C. to Los Angeles,
00:39:27I had to learn to wake up
00:39:28to watch games
00:39:29because it was ridiculous
00:39:29that you had to wake up
00:39:30at 8 or 9 in the morning
00:39:31to watch football on the West Coast.
00:39:32But then I had two friends
00:39:33and we decided
00:39:34we wanted to watch all the games
00:39:35and first we went to a sports bar
00:39:36right near the airport.
00:39:37It was one of the greatest
00:39:37sports bars we'd ever seen.
00:39:38You could see four or five games
00:39:39without even having
00:39:40to swivel your head.
00:39:41We love that.
00:39:41But two of my friends
00:39:42did not live near the sports bar.
00:39:43So one of them decided
00:39:44he was going to build his own.
00:39:46So in his office,
00:39:47he got eight flat screens.
00:39:49He got eight direct TV receivers
00:39:50and bang, we'd go there
00:39:52and we'd have our own.
00:39:53It was just delightful.
00:39:54My other friend decided
00:39:55that's not good enough
00:39:56because once in a while
00:39:57on the morning games,
00:39:57there's nine or 10 or 11 games.
00:39:59So we always had to vote
00:40:00a game off the island
00:40:01when there was eight.
00:40:01So he built one
00:40:02with 10 TV sets.
00:40:03These are good friends
00:40:04to have.
00:40:04They're incredible.
00:40:05Are you supposed to build
00:40:06the one with 12?
00:40:07I cannot.
00:40:07But now I have to drive
00:40:08an hour away
00:40:09because they live out
00:40:10in the valley.
00:40:10I live near LAX
00:40:11and we'd watch the 10 games.
00:40:13And I know everyone
00:40:14loves NFL Red Zone
00:40:14and Red Zone is terrific,
00:40:16but we're NFL All Zone.
00:40:17I mean, you just watch every game
00:40:19and it was terrific
00:40:20and it became a way
00:40:21of life for us.
00:40:22Now, the thing about it
00:40:23that got me mad
00:40:24is that my one friend
00:40:25was a big gambler
00:40:26and fantasy guy.
00:40:28My other friend
00:40:28was an NFL agent.
00:40:30So when they're watching games,
00:40:31my NFL agent friend
00:40:32didn't have a lot
00:40:32of big clients then.
00:40:33He had a lot of second stringers.
00:40:35So my fantasy guy
00:40:36is sitting there
00:40:36watching the game
00:40:37rooting for sacks
00:40:37and interceptions
00:40:38because he's got
00:40:39the Broncos defense.
00:40:40My NFL agent friend
00:40:41is sitting there
00:40:41rooting for injuries
00:40:42because every time
00:40:43someone gets injured,
00:40:44he says,
00:40:44I got the backup O-line
00:40:45for the Raiders.
00:40:46So he's looking for injuries.
00:40:48So we're sitting there,
00:40:48this is 24 years ago.
00:40:49We're sitting there
00:40:5024 years ago
00:40:51and he's got a lot
00:40:51of backup quarterbacks
00:40:52and we're watching
00:40:53a Patriots game.
00:40:54Drew Bledsoe goes down
00:40:55in 01.
00:40:56He says,
00:40:56I got the backup.
00:40:58He's Tom Brady's agent.
00:40:59Don Yee.
00:41:00Don Yee.
00:41:01Hasn't worked a day
00:41:02in his life since.
00:41:03You got Tom Brady.
00:41:04You are set.
00:41:05You can put 50 TVs
00:41:06on the wall at that point.
00:41:07Oh my God.
00:41:07It's incredible.
00:41:08We could have had
00:41:08cocktail bottle service
00:41:09at the table.
00:41:10So yeah,
00:41:10he's been Tom's agent
00:41:11for 24 years
00:41:12and since I'm a Steelers fan,
00:41:14I've rooted against
00:41:14the Patriots for 24 years
00:41:16and it's been tough
00:41:16because we also have
00:41:17two large TVs
00:41:18and only one gets sound.
00:41:19The Patriots always,
00:41:20no matter who they're playing,
00:41:20we've got to have
00:41:21the Patriots on the big TV.
00:41:22We've got to have
00:41:22the Patriots on the sound.
00:41:23It's kind of frustrating
00:41:24watching the Patriots
00:41:25for this long.
00:41:26Man, Norman,
00:41:26so you have two guys,
00:41:27myself and Julio.
00:41:28We've played football.
00:41:29You've obviously been
00:41:29at the poker table.
00:41:30I've never been
00:41:31at a poker table before.
00:41:33Are there similarities
00:41:33between the NFL
00:41:34and the poker room?
00:41:37The only similarities
00:41:38is that it's a tough way
00:41:39to make an easy living
00:41:40as a stand poker.
00:41:41Either way.
00:41:42In poker,
00:41:43I always talk about,
00:41:43well, you know,
00:41:44the thing about poker
00:41:45is that you're on your own,
00:41:47you've got no teammates
00:41:47and nobody's trying to hit you.
00:41:49In football,
00:41:50you know,
00:41:50you can blame your teammates
00:41:51but you've got
00:41:52a guaranteed income.
00:41:53Poker's a tough way
00:41:53to make a living.
00:41:54So in poker,
00:41:55you can go year after year
00:41:57after year and lose
00:41:58and you can't lose
00:42:00and you can lose games
00:42:00in the NFL
00:42:01but you're getting paid.
00:42:02Now, as far as watching it,
00:42:04I don't know how people
00:42:05watch poker live.
00:42:06Like when you go
00:42:06to watch an NFL game,
00:42:07I don't care if you're
00:42:07in Buffalo and it's 25 degrees
00:42:09and you're freezing,
00:42:10it's a great experience.
00:42:11You've got the replays
00:42:11up there and all that.
00:42:12In poker,
00:42:13if you're 25 feet away
00:42:14from a table,
00:42:15you can't see anything.
00:42:16You have no idea
00:42:17what's going on
00:42:17as a live experience.
00:42:19So when friends and family
00:42:19come in to watch poker,
00:42:20if they're watching on the rail
00:42:21and a table's nearby,
00:42:23they can't see anything.
00:42:23And even when they make
00:42:24the final table,
00:42:25it's a TV table
00:42:25and there's a couple
00:42:26hundred people in the stands,
00:42:27you're sitting there
00:42:27and all you see
00:42:28is the big screen up there
00:42:29that puts out
00:42:30the five cards in the middle.
00:42:31You can't see the chips,
00:42:32you can't see the action,
00:42:32you have no idea
00:42:33how your guy's doing.
00:42:34I mean, you're better off
00:42:35going to a hardware store
00:42:36and watching the guy make keys
00:42:37because that's more action.
00:42:38So to watch live poker
00:42:39is next to impossible
00:42:40while watching live NFL
00:42:42is about as good as it gets.
00:42:43Yeah, it's like when
00:42:43Booker had that little
00:42:44Booker mobile.
00:42:45It happens in the NFL.
00:42:46Booker had that little
00:42:47Booker mobile
00:42:47and he was blocking
00:42:47everybody's fans
00:42:48and those in the front row seat.
00:42:49So it happens in NFL too.
00:42:51I mean, that's why we need you
00:42:52because we need you
00:42:53to tell us all the different
00:42:54things going on in poker.
00:42:55But you mentioned Tom Brady.
00:42:56Thank you for flipping it.
00:42:56I got you.
00:42:57Dealer with hard.
00:42:58Yeah, yeah.
00:42:58You mentioned Tom Brady earlier.
00:43:00He's regarded as the GOAT,
00:43:01the greatest of all time.
00:43:02Who is the GOAT
00:43:03in the poker world
00:43:04that we should all
00:43:04kind of know about?
00:43:05Well, if you're in the poker world,
00:43:06you know who the GOAT is
00:43:07because he tells you
00:43:08every 10 minutes.
00:43:09So poker's a lot about
00:43:10ego and attitude.
00:43:11So Phil Hellmuth
00:43:12is the GOAT
00:43:13at the World Series of Poker.
00:43:14Phil Hellmuth has,
00:43:15when you win a title,
00:43:16they give you a bracelet.
00:43:17Yep.
00:43:17So there's like 100
00:43:19World Series tournaments
00:43:20every year
00:43:20and you get a bracelet
00:43:21for any one of them.
00:43:21They're really hard to win
00:43:22because the fields are so large.
00:43:23So Phil Hellmuth
00:43:24has 17 bracelets.
00:43:25Nobody else has more than 11.
00:43:27So it's probably harder
00:43:28in a lot of ways
00:43:29to win 17 World Series bracelets
00:43:31than it is to win
00:43:32seven Super Bowls
00:43:33as Tom Brady did.
00:43:34It's a lot safer
00:43:35for starters,
00:43:36but you're on your own.
00:43:37I don't know.
00:43:37He looks like he's doing
00:43:38some death-defying stunts
00:43:39in these pictures.
00:43:41Does this come with the title?
00:43:42All of us.
00:43:43He likes to make
00:43:44a lot of different entrances
00:43:45when he comes to the World Series.
00:43:46Sometimes he's been
00:43:47Julius Caesar.
00:43:47Sometimes he's been
00:43:48a World War II general.
00:43:49And it just makes those entrances.
00:43:52But when you're winning
00:43:52those titles,
00:43:54there's a lot of luck involved.
00:43:55And because of the flip of the card,
00:43:56you could be a 4-1 favorite
00:43:57and still lose
00:43:58the biggest pot of your life,
00:43:59the biggest tan of your life.
00:44:00So it's really hard to win 17.
00:44:01Plus, when you're winning
00:44:02the bracelets compared
00:44:03to winning the titles,
00:44:04you win those bracelets,
00:44:05you don't have the benefit
00:44:06of Deflategate or Spygate
00:44:08or Tuckgate
00:44:09or Walt Coleman
00:44:09or anything.
00:44:10You've got no officials
00:44:11helping you.
00:44:11It's just your skill
00:44:12and the luck.
00:44:14While Tom Brady,
00:44:14you can't deflate
00:44:15a deck of cards.
00:44:16I'm sorry.
00:44:16It doesn't make a difference.
00:44:17So I think it's actually tougher
00:44:18to win these titles
00:44:19against hundreds,
00:44:20if not thousands,
00:44:20of players each time
00:44:21than it is to win
00:44:22an NFL title.
00:44:23I'm not taking anything away
00:44:24from Tom Brady
00:44:25in seven Super Bowls.
00:44:26But you're in a weak division
00:44:27for a lot of years.
00:44:29Norman is...
00:44:30He's a fire and darts.
00:44:32Call you.
00:44:33John's going to call you right now.
00:44:34He's starting early.
00:44:35Two home games
00:44:35and you're in the Super Bowl
00:44:36and then you've got
00:44:37six officials on your side.
00:44:38You're going to win
00:44:39a lot more titles
00:44:40than you are
00:44:41World Series bracelets.
00:44:42You can tell
00:44:42he's a Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
00:44:43There you go.
00:44:44I like it.
00:44:44Okay.
00:44:45What you got, Jaleel?
00:44:46So you've been around
00:44:47the poker table
00:44:48for a while now.
00:44:49Just a couple years ago,
00:44:50Pro Football Hall of Famer
00:44:51Richard Seymour
00:44:51made a run
00:44:52at the World Series of Poker.
00:44:54Tell us,
00:44:55what was that like
00:44:55watching him go
00:44:56on that kind of run?
00:44:57First of all,
00:44:58to see that large
00:44:59of a man
00:44:59at a poker table
00:45:00around people like me,
00:45:01it's David and Goliath.
00:45:04So it's a delight
00:45:04to see him there.
00:45:05Second of all,
00:45:06we love it when
00:45:07celebrities and athletes
00:45:08come to play.
00:45:08A lot of celebrities
00:45:09have come to play.
00:45:09Ray Romano,
00:45:11Don Cheadle,
00:45:12Ben Affleck
00:45:13who played
00:45:13in the World Series of Poker,
00:45:14Toby McGuire.
00:45:15It's hard to make them
00:45:16get deep into the tournament
00:45:17because they're not that good.
00:45:19Richard Seymour was good.
00:45:20So the year that he played
00:45:21the World Series of Poker
00:45:22main event,
00:45:23it's $10,000
00:45:24to buy your way in.
00:45:25Okay?
00:45:2510,000 players
00:45:26played in this thing
00:45:27two years ago.
00:45:29He finished 284th.
00:45:30So in the tournament,
00:45:32you have 10,000 players.
00:45:32Only 15% of the players
00:45:34make money
00:45:34and get their money back.
00:45:35So the top 1,500
00:45:35make money.
00:45:36He finished 284th.
00:45:37And I was torn watching him
00:45:39because I'm rooting for him
00:45:40because it's great for poker.
00:45:41A Super Bowl champion
00:45:42is playing.
00:45:44And it's great for the game.
00:45:45It's great when celebrities
00:45:45and athletes go far.
00:45:47And he's also the nicest guy
00:45:48in the world.
00:45:48Perfect, perfect countenance
00:45:50at the table.
00:45:50You love playing with him.
00:45:51But I'm torn because
00:45:52I hate the Patriots.
00:45:54And I just, you know,
00:45:54I know he's got nothing.
00:45:56He's just playing football.
00:45:57But I'm sitting there
00:45:57and I want him to go far
00:45:58but he's with the Patriots.
00:46:00So I didn't know
00:46:00which way to go
00:46:01and I met him.
00:46:01Again, he's so delightful.
00:46:02And again, it was great for him.
00:46:04He's had other success
00:46:05at the World Series
00:46:05and at the World Poker Tour.
00:46:06And I'm always surprised
00:46:07that more athletes
00:46:09don't transition into poker
00:46:10because you're competitive.
00:46:11So when you retire,
00:46:12where are you going to
00:46:12take out that competition?
00:46:13Golf course.
00:46:13Ah, golf course.
00:46:14Yeah, I'm on the golf course
00:46:15nowadays.
00:46:15I can't get a break
00:46:16in the golf course.
00:46:16Because poker you can play
00:46:1724-7 year-round
00:46:18because it doesn't care
00:46:19about the weather and stuff.
00:46:20And it's a mind game.
00:46:21You know, it's not a sport.
00:46:22It's a mind sport maybe.
00:46:23But I'm always surprised
00:46:24we don't see more
00:46:25former athletes playing poker.
00:46:27Well, the way my back's been
00:46:28feeling the last couple days,
00:46:29maybe I need to put down
00:46:29the golf clubs
00:46:30and hit the poker table.
00:46:31So maybe I'll take you up on that.
00:46:32You'd love it.
00:46:32I think a lot of
00:46:33offensive coordinators
00:46:34should talk to poker players
00:46:35and learn a little bit more
00:46:36about poker
00:46:36because they become
00:46:37very predictable.
00:46:38And you need to throw in
00:46:39a little bit of bluffing
00:46:40and a little bit of that
00:46:41unpredictability.
00:46:42Maybe you can give them
00:46:44some lessons.
00:46:44You know, I can't give them
00:46:45my lessons because I lose
00:46:46at the poker table.
00:46:46But you bring up
00:46:47a good point, Cynthia.
00:46:48The poker players
00:46:49who follow the NFL,
00:46:51they believe offensive coordinators
00:46:52are like 25 years
00:46:53behind the times.
00:46:54They do all the analytics.
00:46:55And they do, you know,
00:46:56when you should go for it.
00:46:57And on this and that,
00:46:58they're not gambling.
00:46:58And some of them say
00:46:59you should always go for it
00:47:00on fourth down
00:47:00no matter where you are.
00:47:01They believe that their analytics
00:47:02are superior to the offensive
00:47:03coordinators' analytics.
00:47:04And they will sit here
00:47:05and talk your ear off
00:47:06about the mistakes
00:47:07that coaches make
00:47:07during NFL games.
00:47:08These are Cynthia's people.
00:47:09We need to make that happen
00:47:10because I'd love to have that.
00:47:11The analytics.
00:47:12Or Cynthia, maybe you should be in,
00:47:13maybe you should go into poker.
00:47:14That actually is what I'm hearing.
00:47:16Okay.
00:47:17This brings us to our last topic.
00:47:18It's obviously important.
00:47:19You need a good poker face
00:47:20to win and to have success
00:47:22at the table.
00:47:22Give us the current NFL player
00:47:24that you think
00:47:25has the best poker face.
00:47:26Nice.
00:47:27Oh, that has the best poker face.
00:47:28Well, again,
00:47:29the thing about the NFL
00:47:30is that you got the helmets on.
00:47:32So you don't, you know,
00:47:33in poker,
00:47:33except some people now
00:47:34are putting like,
00:47:35they'll put a scarf on
00:47:36so you can't see the pulse here.
00:47:37They're putting hoodies on.
00:47:38They're putting sunglasses on.
00:47:39They're doing everything
00:47:40to try to,
00:47:41so you can't see
00:47:41that poker face anymore.
00:47:43So in football,
00:47:44with the helmets on,
00:47:45it's tougher to see
00:47:46a poker face.
00:47:48But for an NFL player
00:47:49with the best poker face
00:47:50right now,
00:47:52you know,
00:47:53I think
00:47:54I think
00:47:57I'm going to go
00:47:58with Josh Allen.
00:48:00He's got the slight mustache,
00:48:02okay,
00:48:02when he has the mustache on.
00:48:03Mustache is key,
00:48:05okay?
00:48:05Not a Gardner Minshew mustache,
00:48:09okay?
