00:37I understand that you yourself used to work at a matchmaking company.
00:42Yeah, I was a matchmaker for about six months in my 20s.
00:47And I got that job because I couldn't pay rent being a writer.
00:52You know, I needed to pay rent and pay for food.
00:55It was just the only job that I could get in New York City.
00:58Every day, I think that I was thinking about maybe making something about it because there is just such an amazing insight into what people are feeling and thinking.
01:09People are very honest with the matchmaker.
01:12I would say more honest than with therapists, right?
01:14Like in the movie, they say.
01:16Yeah, exactly.
01:17Like exactly in the movie because they will just tell you.
01:20They tell you exactly what they're looking for in their love and it will always reveal what their heart desires.
01:26And the thing that I would run into all the time is that what their heart desire is to feel valuable.
01:33Definitely didn't expect to run into you tonight.
01:35I missed you.
01:36Yeah, you don't even remember my face.
01:39I was pleasantly challenged by the film because I came looking for a rom-com, you know, the love triangle, rich guy, poor guy, mature girl in between.
01:51And I ended up thinking about, you know, self-worth, value, competitiveness.
01:56Well, I feel like, Walter, you, it sounds like you had the perfect experience in my, in my, for me.
02:03You know what I mean?
02:03I feel like that would be the, that would be the perfect thing.
02:06But I think it's like, I think if it inspires you to think about and to want to talk about your own beliefs about love and dating and your own value and your own worth and what you, and what you value as a result of this movie, that's the dream.
02:21You're going to marry him, are you?
02:23Why not?
02:23Because he's good looking and rich.
02:25Is there any parallel between the dating market and a filmmaker looking for finance, production, clothes and stuff?
02:33Yeah, well, I think that, I think that there is always a bit of matchmaking that happens in any job.
02:41But at the end of the day, that's what I think is also true about filmmaking that, you know, for example, when I was casting this movie, I was thinking about it very much as a matchmaking.
02:50Because I had the characters already and I go out looking for, as like a matchmaker, go out looking for the soulmate of each character, right?
02:59And of course, it'd be nice if they checked all the boxes, but at the end of the day, you have to fall in love.
03:04Talking about your cast, you led a very stellar cast.
03:08What are the pros and cons of having a cast that is so high in their celebrity status?
03:14Because sometimes that...
03:15Something that I know is really true is that, you know, like all three of my actors, I would say, that really understand the central premise of the...
03:24So it's the centerpiece of the whole film, which is I'm not merchandising, I'm a person, right?
03:28Because all three of them have experienced being treated like merchandise before, as you can imagine, right?
03:34If you think about it.
03:35So they really understood that.
03:37So a part of them working on my movie was to be treated like people and to play people.
03:43Thank you very much.
03:43Thank you so much.
03:44Thank you, Walter.
03:45Amores Materialistas estrena este 31 de julio en nuestro país.
03:49My thing.
