Renogy N-Type 400Watt Portable Solar Blanket Foldable Solar Panel, 25% High Efficiency, Lightweight Solar Generator for Power Station Off Grid Outdoor Activities, SUV, RV, Marine, Camping
In this video I tes out two new toys that pair together like a dream. The iMontauk solar generator power station together with the 400w newest technology topcon N-Type foldable solar blanket panel. The solar panel gave me a steady 280 watts which I am happy about because it gave just as much power as solar panels of yesteryear that were even standing upright facing the sun, not to mention which are more bulky to carry around and set up. This thing won't even flop in the wind which is great. Overall the solar generator and the solar blanket have been great new editions to my off-grid tech. I bought these units with my own money so other than a small amazon commission if you buy a unit there, I have no incentive either way. The way I make my video reviews is that it is an unboxing experience and initial impressions as I test out the tech with you watching. So glad to share this video with so many friends out there! 00:00welcome guys to my quick unboxing quick review of this solar generator um
00:08i had this in the box for a little while until i had a reason to test it out so this is what comes
00:13in the box for it so it comes with this kind of cable for the solar generator so that's an aviation
00:21plug it looks like sp21 and this is the kind of solar connector that it has okay so it does come
00:31with solar connector it comes with a cigarette plug connector and it comes with a nice heavy duty
00:40ac plug okay so that's the power cables that it comes with so now let me pull it out of the
00:46the box and then we're going to quickly check it out okay so that's the manual quickly go through it
01:00it looks like it has oh
01:05the screen under the front over here battery connector dcn okay
01:10so ac input it could do 1200 watts pv dc input is about 1200 watts 20 amps max so in order to get
01:2720 uh 1200 watts you would need 60 volts minimum at 20 amps here
01:34ups function it could do 1400 watts continuous which is cool um i do like that it has multiple usbc ports
01:51a lot of ac ports
01:52tft display screen i got the 1.2 kilowatt unit because this seems like something you could throw
02:05in the car and i think it has a 2000 watt inverter and what i also liked about this unit is that it
02:13allows you to turn off the wi-fi bluetooth based on the review that i've watched so that's the reason
02:18why i got this is because i i plan to also use this with um for a 48 volt battery pack like a standard
02:28maybe like a car battery pack uh not a car uh a 48 volt battery and what's cool about that is that
02:40even if you have a 48 volt battery you still need to get an mppt controller you need a an inverter you
02:47need to wire the stuff up with this guy apparently you could just probably get this plug and plug in
02:54a 48 volt battery into it and expand its capacity to whatever amount it is also what what i like about
03:01it is that you can actually charge up the battery on the inside in the battery pack from a 12 volt source
03:08up to 20 amps so up to 20 amps at 12 volts is like 240 watts better than
03:18will it even do 20 amps i don't know we're gonna have to see
03:25so you could get the app
03:30settings how to do the settings
03:38utl
03:42so for me i'm like a 12 volt guy i like my 12 volts but i didn't want to be limited by the 12 volts
03:50and the limitation with having a 48 volt system is that you can't really charge it well with a 12
03:55volt battery and that's the benefit of having solar generators is because they're able to accept 12 volt
04:02inputs so you could technically charge this off your car's cigarette plug lighter
04:09um i got a feeling that if you give it 10 12 volts it's probably going to limit the amperage so that
04:18needs to get tested so otherwise um let's also unpack the solar panel that we're going to test it out with
04:27i bought a 400 watt solar panel and i figured it's a nice sunny day to test it out with that because
04:33uh the 48 volt sorry the 400 watt solar panel is i think a 36 volt panel so i can't use it with a
04:42smaller solar generator and i didn't have a solar generator that i could actually pick up oh even
04:48though it's heavy um and carry outside you know in a convenient way more or less um to test it out
04:56with so i'm finally getting around to testing it out and i hope you are finding this useful links are
05:02below so comment subscribe uh and like the video so let's uh check out also the solar panel we're gonna
05:10do let's unbox that and the next thing we're gonna unbox is this renergy portable solar blanket
05:16i watched the video review of it so what was interested me in this blanket is that it uses the
05:23newest solar panel technology called n-type or uh yeah n-type um so long story short it folds neatly in
05:37it this is actually a smaller size than a 200 watt panel and i'm going to afterwards show you what it
05:44it is compared to in size to a 200 watt panel so that we could kind of compare it in measurements
05:52this thing is compact i'm really liking this um let me get the plastic off and let's put a 200 watt
06:00panel right underneath it okay bung this guy pops out it comes with a pretty decently long cable
06:14and a shoulder strap carrying thing which is cool that attaches i guess to somewhere here maybe over here
06:24over here i'm gonna have to figure that out i do like the pouch and here's the information written
06:33on there i do like it when they write things down on it and now let's take a quick look at the manual
06:41i hope you guys appreciate the the way that i'm doing the unboxings because everybody is just like
06:46shows clips of themselves talking and um even though i do like it when people are something about copyright
06:54i don't know about copyright we're doing the instructions for reading the information how to
07:01charge the battery
07:02so does that say output so it looks like it might have usb ports on it
07:19huh i don't see any usb ports
07:22okay so we got another shoulder strap
07:30so we have an e-warranty card register for the warranty online i might need to do that
07:41okay so let's see so here's the dimensions
07:47um unfolded it's 61 by 31.
07:54no i think that oh that's huh is that the right size probably is okay
08:04so it's 400 watts connected to your solar generator so i have this cable over here connected right here
08:12the red to the red so it's correct polarity how to charge the battery
08:24you could put two of these together if you want technically you could i think the montec
08:29can do up to 120 volts so technically you could have the montec and these two and you would have 800 watts portable which is kind of cool
08:36and now it's in german okay so most important information written here
08:45i'm going to throw this in here and i'm going to take this cable the montec cable and put it in there
08:52so we could test out the solar panel with the brand new solar generator
08:57and which i could actually carry on both arms
09:00so this in here so that it doesn't get separated and um we shall see what kind of power output it
09:08does it might be a little bit overcast right now we shall see so we're going to go outside now and check
09:14it out so i gave the information on the folded dimensions um so the carrying strap i'm not sure
09:23where it attaches maybe you attach it of course here or like this or maybe there's a carrying strap here
09:29strap here strap here okay um so perhaps the carrying strap attaches right here
09:36to give you a nice shoulder bag feel so why don't i do that why don't i attach the carrying strap
09:43because i'm going to need to carry it right
09:48so the carrying handle makes it very convenient to carry around i like that
09:52so this is the comparison of it to a blue eddy 200 watt solar panel yes the 200 watt solar panel is
10:04flatter but this is smaller in overall size and it's double the power capacity yes the blue eddy has
10:12the legs but this one just lays flat on the floor that's why it's called a solar blanket it doesn't
10:17have the kickstands and perhaps that allows it to actually save some extra bulk and some weight
10:24uh in order to uh be able to carry it so so far initial build quality i'm very much impressed
10:32to fit so much solar panel of 400 watts in it and that's the reason why i actually got this is to
10:38possibly put this in my car with the montauk power station so that if i wanted to travel and
10:45uh connect some solar i do like the idea of being able to get three or four hundred watts out of it
10:51easily so this this looks like a really nice solution and throwing this in the back back of
10:59the car uh it's not going to take up that much space and obviously it's going to do a lot more power
11:05than a 200 watt solar panel does this 200 watt solar panel does maximum about 150 watts output so i'm
11:13expecting it to do between 250 and 300 maybe so we're gonna have to see we're gonna have to see
11:19like uh what it's gonna do um and then we're gonna see how the power station turns on for the first time
11:25so that's the kind of interesting thing uh so i'm not paid or sponsored i'm just like a guy that
11:30watches youtube channels and watches cool videos and when somebody has a cool product uh that i think
11:37is nice that could benefit my life i do buy it and i have specific reasons for it like with the power
11:42station being able to connect to a 48 volt system i do have 12 volt things so what i do like about it
11:48is that to be able to connect it maybe to 12 volt batteries that i would charge up with solar to have
11:54an infinite power bank to have a constantly charge up and use it as an inverter because an inverter still
12:01costs money you know a 4001 inverter is 350 dollars i paid at the montauk website i think 650 there was no
12:09sales tax on the renergy's website there was sales tax this one was i think 20 or 30 cheaper at the
12:16website rather than buying on amazon but the links are to amazon but if you want to get it at their
12:23websites you might want to check it out too because you might be able to save some sales tax doing it
12:28that way just being upfront with you um i do get commissions from amazon so um but otherwise i paid
12:37for the stuff myself and now we get to test it out i'm excited how about you thumb up and subscribe
12:44okay so now i just unclasped this and now it's unfolding out like that
13:02okay
13:06i think maybe i should have pulled out the cable
13:09okay that looks kind of cool interesting so initial thoughts i do like these um hooks over here
13:21to attach it to carabiners uh to be able to look at it all from all directions which is really cool
13:29so now let me connect it to the solar generator and see what kind of power we could generate
13:34it's a little bit hazy but i would say it's pretty decent sunlight
13:39so the cord is decently long that's about 10 feet it says here nine but the cord is a little bit
13:46kind of like there so a 10 foot cord that's pretty decent so this allows you to put your power station
13:53a little bit out of the way this is what it looks like folded up partially and now we're going to
13:59connect it to the montauk let's quickly take a look at the montauk and explore what the options are
14:05so external battery over here dc in over here
14:14what does it say so 12 volt 30 amp
14:19okay
14:22am i breaking something i i don't want to be breaking something so it looks like the power button over here
14:28nothing is on the back
14:38and ac is okay so it looks like the acs might be on the left and the right side so let me get this guy
14:44connected and then we'll see what it looks like afterwards so montauk if you're watching this
14:51perhaps one of the suggestions that i might make is if you made the housing on the outside white
15:00because i think if you left it in the sun the the dark housing is actually going to attract a lot more
15:08heat to it than possibly is necessary um but overall i'm very much impressed with the build quality so now
15:16let's get the power connected oh and let's see the power cable
15:22the power cable that comes with the montauk from nine feet so it's about four feet long
15:30four to five feet something like that maybe five feet so five feet plus that so we got 15 feet so
15:38technically i would be able to put this out of the sun and stuff like that but you see in this situation
15:44that could kind of heat it up if they would actually make it like white or maybe camouflage
15:49color but that looks kind of nice the two of them are looking nice together based on the first initial
15:55things guys this is like a review we're completely unscripted i'm just like a guy opening up a cool
16:02present from uh santa so or actually from from god you know that i appreciate but let's just say it's
16:09christmas and i'm opening up again so let's see what it looks like getting the power in
16:16okay so i do what what i do like about the montauk is this design where everything is kind of like
16:25all the ports are covered up so can we put it in the correct in the correct way it looks like it goes
16:32only one way in so let's see so this way what about this way would it go would it go in no it would
16:42only go in one way so this aviation style plug it looks like it only lets it go in one way which is
16:50really good you can't really mess it up or i hope not
17:01okay so the power is not on yet because we have the solar panel covered up 100 percent
17:08and we have some poop over here nice thank you for leaving thank you for not curbing your dog
17:14oh man whatever what are you gonna do okay so now let's see
17:27let's see what power it is getting
17:29298 watts
17:44so 31 volts it came with six percent charge okay that's cool
17:53i really like this design over here where they put all the information about it
18:02so this guy is actually 38 pounds i was i was thinking it was a little heavy
18:08so aviation socket 13.8
18:11ah okay so the 12 12 volt cigarette port is on this side let's just take a look at all these different
18:27things so okay no that's a 12 volt 30 amp aviation okay
18:41so the screwing back in okay so that's good so open it you pull this down okay so i was breaking it to open it
18:58okay so here's the ports ac power in so we have high power sockets over here
19:1012 volt times 10 amps 12 volt 15 amps so that's really cool uh you could charge a laptop with each
19:21one of these and these and that okay that's pretty decent so what other information are we looking at
19:29okay so 12 volt so we have one on the side 30 amps that's really nice
19:37so it really helps you use uh 12 volt systems the six socket is 13.8 volt it looks like regulated
19:48so 13.8 volt is might be a little bit high for certain things but for other things it's fantastic
19:55um so two times 24 watts so it does even 12 volt 2 amps so it looks like a quick charge port
20:07so 265 watt usbc is one dc input 12 to 150 volts i gotta hand it to these guys creating a 150 volt input
20:18is really nice uh let's see what power it's getting now 291 the sun is like that in the sky
20:29so it gives you the time that it's on okay let's see i'm pressing this power button over here
20:42and i'm not getting any anything on the screen from the uh power inverter
20:57so let's take a quick quick look at the solar panel so the solar panel is the n-type technology
21:03which is i think 25 efficiency that's the highest efficiency possible i do like the setup over here
21:14where it is in a lot of multiple squares so possibly that might help with the efficiency
21:20also what i like is that you're not worried about it blowing away so i have a couple other 400 watt panels
21:28and um they're so heavy to carry around and they take up so much space um the compact design where
21:40it all folds up where it looks like one two three four 16 squares 16 little into 16 little squares with
21:49a little carrying handle um i actually didn't notice the weight of the solar panel uh because of the
21:57heaviness of this guy okay 288 watts that's definitely really nice i think this input if you can see uh is
22:11really decent i do like being able to close this up it looks like when you're gonna be like if you're
22:17charging it with ac uh probably the the fans kick in this gray color is actually pretty cool i like it
22:27that snaps right in let's see what the external battery thing looks like
22:36so that's the external battery port um
22:42so there was a guy on youtube i watched that
22:48connected this to an external battery but my question is how did he do it
22:54did he buy the montauk batteries i'm not sure um put your comments down below what kind of like
23:02a plug is this i should probably go on the montauk.com website and get some of their cables to be able to
23:09use your own external 48 volt battery or maybe i would just buy the montauk battery because that sounds like
23:16um it might be the better working idea
23:27so let's see
23:30interesting
23:31so this is like a hollow space over here why would they leave empty space here and ac out
23:48i don't know what what this there was no cable coming for that so it's a 2001 inverter
23:56and i'm not seeing any anything on the screen pressing the this button
24:11or chances are what might be happening is that because it's below 10 percent
24:16there might be a setting for it not to chart like not to um work
24:28okay so now i turned it on and now we're getting a 12 volt zero watt we're getting a usb
24:38so this guy on the right turn does turn something on and off okay so we got the 12 volts working
24:46okay so it looks like uh the ac
24:58maybe below 10 percent isn't working all right there's probably a power level that you need to
25:04reach in order for the ac to work um feel it was a little bit hollow on the inside i'm just wondering
25:10what this spacing is for maybe okay so it looks like the fan blows through here
25:22and the actual battery pack may be somewhere probably here
25:32okay full charge and discharge the battery at least once every three months to maintain battery health
25:37that's interesting do not disassemble keep away from high temperature do not expose unit to direct sunlight
25:47never just store the product below 32 fahrenheit
25:51okay interesting battery type is pouch lfp lithium iron phosphate
26:01that this this this whole discharging and uh at least once every three months fully charge and discharge
26:12is an interesting thing so we're at nine percent does the inverter turn on yet no it doesn't turn on yet
26:20there's probably a setting you got to do in order for it to turn on
26:23so let's do the satisfying peel
26:28okay that's kind of cool
26:35i do like the convenience of this because of this form factor of it being a suitcase you could have it
26:43stored in your back seat and it's not taking up the size of a full-sized
26:49uh you know a 2000 watt solar generator would probably come up to out here
26:56so that's the idea that's why i got this version the 1200 watt one because i figured it could be lighter to carry
27:06um and it was much cheaper i think the 1200 watt version
27:12as i told you 650 at the website with no sales tax and the 2000 watt version was like 950
27:22i just bought this as a head unit to be able to connect my own um to be able to connect my own
27:30my own 48 volt batteries to it without having to buy their official montauk rated ones
27:49so we shall see guys i apologize in advance if like this video is not fully kind of like featured with all
27:57the uh cool tests watch the other guys videos for it this is why i watch a lot of different reviews about the stuff
28:07sp 121 uh to really figure out the things okay so at 10 does it turn on
28:16maybe i gotta connect ac to it charge it up that way so it looks like there is a way to get into the settings
28:36maybe i'm supposed to go to press on the side on this side the switches work
28:46okay now does the touch is there is this a touch screen no oh
28:55you're not supposed to disassemble the unit
28:57okay i don't see any uh kind of like buttons to change things around how to
29:17oh we got ac output working
29:20okay okay so the ac output turns on at 10 percent so i guess it comes right out of the box
29:29to turn on the 10 percent oh i remember one of the one of the reasons i got this unit
29:35was you could program it to turn on at a specific
29:42um percentage rate like you could make it turn on ac at 10 percent
29:47or dc at 10 percent or 20 percent things like this
29:54okay so the ac does work oh these buttons feel really nice
30:02you hear a nice satisfying click with the ac output
30:08i'm sure that i'm sure the ac works perfectly i'm just not going to bother with that
30:12but for me i'm liking the idea of using it as um usb c source as a nice portable 12 volt um
30:24okay so it is a working unit let's see what about the dimensions oh the dimensions are given here
30:31the dimensions are 20 inches by 15.7 so it looks like 20 inches this way
30:37so 20 inches this way by 15.7 by 5.2 no let's let's just re-measure it i mean we have the measuring tape
30:50right here so that's correct about the 20 inches uh let's see that's correct about the 15.7
31:00and that's correct i think about the six inches this way okay that's reasonable size so it's 38 pounds
31:14we already saw the differences there i'm liking the really nice input with this solar panel
31:22and now let's get to the conclusions over here okay so the two solar panels together
31:35are actually really decent decent buy so i was able to carry it from indoors to the outdoors with the
31:45really easy to carry handles i do like the easy foldability let's see for example
31:52what is the partial rating so let's say half of the solar panel got you know whatever shaded up
31:59with half the solar panel shaded up it looks like it's getting zero watts
32:05interesting so it looks like this half and half is in series somehow now let's see if we fold it up like
32:14this what is the partial shading test with this
32:19so partial shading it partially shaded so it's getting 124 i don't know if you guys could see 128
32:31with the solar panel half shaded okay
32:36so half shaded it gets half the power but it can't be shaded this way so it looks like maybe
32:45so this way and this way these are parallel somehow so one direction it could get better shading
32:56tolerance another direction it could get lesser shading tolerance the fuel quality of this is nice i think
33:05it's etfe oh and i think this is also a 16 bus bar design the 16 bus bar is that these little
33:14connectors over here they're closer together and you get more of them supposedly that increases efficiency
33:20it looks like it actually increases it pretty well so portability wise i think that's really decent so
33:29it's getting 280 watts right now portability wise this is fantastic um thinking about putting four solar
33:40panels inside your car or two of those 200 watt solar panels that you saw earlier in the video uh take up
33:49probably twice as much room and are harder to carry than this one 400 watt i would go with this one any day
33:57okay now for the montauk power station i'm not sure if there's wi-fi or wireless on it or stuff like that
34:07uh perhaps maybe the guy that was watching the video uh making the video he had a version that had
34:15wireless on it or maybe there is wireless i just i just don't know like is there a screen how to set it
34:23up stuff like that watch their videos from the initial impressions i think this is a very sturdy
34:31built uh thing this guy and this guy together i think are a match made in heaven um the compactness
34:39of it i think you could put it between the two seats in the back seat like if let's say if you have an
34:44suv or in the trunk where it's not going to take up too much space where you could fit other uh gear
34:52and this one
34:55if you put two of these solar panels together so since each one of them is about 30 volts
35:02you could technically get two of these solar panels and get 60 volts if you put them in series
35:09so 280 and 280 you could get 560 watts into this without an issue and it has i think a 1200 watt limit
35:18so really great in the limit up to 150 volts so with 150 volts technically you could do
35:29four of these
35:33if that's a 39 volt that might be too much but you could technically put three of these get three of
35:40these solar panels which would fit in the trunk of your car
35:47and you could tie them down with carabiners so the possibility is let's say a chain link fence like
35:55that if you had a chain link fence you could stretch it out with carabiners and maybe get even better
36:02sunlight onto it i'm not gonna do that now because i didn't bring any carabiners um so that's the
36:09possibility with the carabiners also maybe if you take carabiners and bungee cords or bungee cords to
36:18carabiners long story short you could probably hang it off a tree and there's a million and one different
36:24ways to route it uh possibly you could put it across your car across the hood of your car or across the
36:32back of your car and with it laying flat like this you don't have to worry about it falling away that's
36:39the thing about solar panels where you have the big floppy um legs on a solar panel they take up a lot of
36:47room and the solar panel is not that stable on the thing yes you might get slightly more power but how
36:55much how much more power not that much more power for example i have an n-type solar panel that i the
37:03sokyo vola a 200 watt sokyo vola solar panel was generating about 160 watts facing at a perfect angle to
37:15the sun right 160 and that's a 200 watt so two sokyo volas would be 320 watts so they're twice as hard
37:28to carry around because you have to carry around the two they don't have the shoulder strap they're
37:32heavier they're tougher to set up and to get that angle and all that for a 40 watt difference
37:40and with these solar panels you could fit a lot more into your car so if you're traveling i mean
37:49the ultimate setup would be probably three of these solar panels and with the 10 foot extension cord
37:57you could put them in series so make it uh let's say 30 volt 60 90 volts and you could have 12 100
38:07watts of solar total and getting 280 watts into your bank so technically you could triple that to about
38:17900 watts in a portable package technically which you could carry to your campsite
38:25so you could technically cook directly from the sun without an issue
38:30you um so what i recommended to you guys i would say astoundingly yes this is really cool this is
38:41really good brand new panel technology the build quality is nice i think also it's a waterproof uh ip
38:51something with the with this cord i mean you could always get an extension cord uh 50 feet 100 feet 30 feet
38:59however you need from the campsite or like the more expensive thing like the solar generator you might
39:04put it on the inside um that's pretty decent i do like the idea that you could charge it off the solar
39:14generator and you could charge it off ac at the same time so that's kind of cool at up to 1400 watts
39:22so you could technically fast charge this in about an hour at the 280 watt rating of the solar panel
39:32280 so let's say 300 watts you could charge this in a five hour time period that's one of those things
39:40is that in a sunny day usually you get five hours of sun so one 400 watt panel like this
39:47four hours in the five hours in the sun you got it recharged i do like that you could do the
39:53expansion batteries i wish the uh connector maybe was not proprietary maybe it's not maybe this is
40:00because this is my first solar generator with the aviation style plugs i might actually fall in love
40:06with those because it's designed to be kind of like waterproof and also idiot proof so you can't
40:13put the cord in the wrong way and stuff like that which is cool interesting that there's also an
40:18aviation plug for ac so that probably means that you can connect ac power outwards and maybe have an
40:29aviation plug to something that is a hardwired plug uh to let's say a coffee maker or something like that
40:36so you might have this closed up and have that connected i do like the the power buttons over
40:44here being able to turn the ac on and off very easily and to turn the usb ports on and off that
40:53is nice that tactile feel of that button is really phenomenal it has also a blue ring around it to see that
41:01it's actually on now ac doesn't seem to be turning on at this second or does this oh this hat might
41:12have to be one for the ac to be on okay so if you press this one on so after you press this one on the
41:19right on if you press the power button on the right it turns off the ac on the left too and if you just
41:27press the ac by itself it doesn't turn on you have to press the power button on the right in order for
41:33the ac to work on the left okay interesting it has also the version of the montauk software
41:40um i guess i have to install the app uh i montac app and then maybe you see what it looks like
41:51is it broadcasting your signal right now there is no like bluetooth or wi-fi or wireless thing here
41:57i don't know if that needs to be enabled or something like that maybe it's doing it by default
42:04uh in the video where the guy was doing the settings he actually
42:10um pressed the settings on the screen maybe he had a touch screen version or something like that
42:17so maybe i should try getting an app for it
42:20it looks like folding it up is pretty intuitive so as we opened it up from the inside like that
42:30it looks like boom and we fold these guys onto the inside then we fold this guy to the inside here
42:37and then we fold this guy over like that and then this guy gets folded over like that maybe
42:47hmm interesting i'll have to figure it out but it looks simple enough you do it once or twice you're
42:52gonna be able to really get this compact size down um the video might be ending here
43:05guys um tell me what you guys think below uh what about the compactness of the design of this setup
43:12perhaps maybe the ultimate setup is this guy with three solar panels and maybe a 48 volt bank uh that
43:20you charge from this one because it does have a 30 um 30 amp aviation plug so technically you could
43:29send it and charge another solar generator from this one using dc to dc
43:34um and use this kind of like as an appt controller an appt controller would cost money and to wire it
43:44all up and you make it all a package like this it's kind of nice um perhaps maybe the next step of the
43:52test is to connect it to the ac electricity see how it charges up with the ac electricity and see if
43:58there's any uh crazy fans going on here i actually this guy maybe with the background noise uh charging
44:06from the sun i haven't heard any anything from it so maybe there was fans blowing but there's too many
44:12cars and things like this that i couldn't specifically hear any noise coming out of this unit
44:19the power buttons i'm just in love with that power buttons where you just simply click the screen just
44:26turns off very intuitive they made this kind of like the designer of this montec i montec i think is
44:35a very brilliant genius i would like to shake their hand and tell them thank you for making a power
44:42station that is reasonably easy to do i'm gonna have to go on their website to see how easy it is to get
44:50the cords um or if maybe on the manual there's the specific part number to order from amazon of the
44:59different aviation style cords that are available for this unit because um you know there was not
45:06all of the cords included like the ac cord like that one for the dc is not included there
45:13um hmm interesting so this is the video i watched right here this is the video i watched you know
45:25that made me want to buy this you see this setup over here of this guy i got this cable connected a
45:34power switch and was he able to connect it to a 48 volt battery i have the montec x 1200 and this
45:43is the first power station that i've tested that allows you to use a standalone 48 volt battery as
45:48a full function expansion battery so it's actually very amazing feature 12 uses any 48 volt lfp battery
45:56so he didn't link me to this adapter where i get this adapter i'm gonna have to check the box again but
46:03i don't think that's in part of the box i don't think this company actually really intended for you to
46:07use it this way um what is this adapter i wish he would have put it that i could buy it simple you
46:16take any 48 volt battery connect it up with this adapter cable and then both the power station and
46:21the battery will charge and discharge together and you get the added capacity there's no extra work needed
46:27you don't need any external chargers everything so that's really cool so for me i see the montec as a
46:35head unit that you could use for the mppt controller because it takes up to the 150 volts
46:42and maybe have a bank of these but with these you would need a power supply anyway and with this guy
46:48has all these usbc ports and stuff like that um that's kind of cool that you don't need to be
46:54limited by that and the 1200 watts input is actually pretty decent so that's a 20 amp functions as one unit
47:02when they are connected together now here in a couple minutes i will demonstrate how much capacity
47:07you can get as you discharge both the power station so it looks like this is a it's a 1200 watt unit
47:13and uh a 5000 watt unit together so that's the points that i wanted to point out regarding why i got
47:21this is because i like the idea of being able to use a 48 volt battery and uh use all those um
47:3012 volt ports that it has and all those usbc ports because a lot of things you could do with usbc
47:37whether you need 12 volts or whether you need 20 volts for your laptop something like that you are
47:43you got all your bases covered that's where i i don't really appreciate um anchor anchor power stations
47:51all they have is ac plugs so that's not a very efficient thing so reading the manual over here
47:59uh it says that if you have the dc power the idle power draw is about 2.5 watts in this unit that's
48:082.5 watts if you press that right button to just power on the dc ports uh the idle power consumption of
48:15the ac inverter on it is 20 watts an hour so that's 240 watts in a day so that's where it's nice where
48:25if you if you're using dc that's the most efficient way to actually get the power out because you're not
48:31wasting that extra 20 watts energy uh converting from dc to ac and then there there's a conversion
48:39loss of a power brick you would connect there anyway that connects the ac to dc so uh it's 30
48:46more efficient i think about to use uh use the dc ports on the right side uh of this unit and um the
48:57the little circle on the back where you connect ac is that you could put two of these units together
49:04to get 240 volt split phase output also in order to change settings you need to connect it to an ac
49:13power outlet so you connect it on the right side the ac plug um and then you have to make sure the
49:21power button is off like the the power switch on the right is off and there's no like usb and dc stuff
49:27on here and then you hold on the left side the dc button for 10 seconds to to get to the menu changing
49:35screen and then you hold it for like two seconds to switch between the settings and for one second
49:42to change the setting inside the setting or something like that um i'm gonna have to get into
49:46that screen and there i think you have cool things that this unit has that other units don't have
49:53for example you could have it automatically turn on the ac port after it charges up to 20 so chances
50:00are if it runs out of energy you don't want it to be kind of like running out of energy and then
50:04crashing running out of energy and crashing and always staying in 10 you could tell it to charge
50:08up to like let's say 20 before it turns on ac power automatically other power stations don't let
50:15you do that they don't let they don't let the power turn on automatically watch this guy's video and
50:20this is the reason one of the reasons i bought this i'm like that's kind of cool like because i'm
50:24a 12 volt guy usually i'm like that's cool i have all these 12 volt systems but then i figured if i
50:30wanted to be able to use 48 volts i could by plugging in an extra battery this way i just got to figure out
50:36this this cable what is this cable where can i get one so it just sounds like an aviation style cable
50:43and i'm gonna have to search around amazon i wish uh guys like this just told us what it is or showed
50:50it on video what specifically the part number is because that's the idea with my with my videos is
50:55that i give a link so i do get a kickback in case you guys need the cable anyway um if i let's say
51:02linked it and he could have made a commission off it because he does send you a link to the amazon by
51:07the way right now at the making of this video the unit is sold out on the website and on amazon so
51:14uh that's a really cool thing you could also i think have it turn on the dc power after like say
51:1910 or 20 charge and you could turn the bluetooth wi-fi functionality on and off so i think that's
51:26kind of cool because sometimes you're not if you're not a bluetooth user and you're never going to use
51:32that why are you going to have that on and drawing extra power to be able to use your app so probably
51:39the app features i'm going to skip right now i'm going to plug it into the ac power and see what
51:44kind of settings i could get into in order for us to complete the making of this video uh but this is
51:51definitely a changing uh a life-changing thing oh and if you're using the car plug adapter is designed
52:01or out of the box to run at eight amps or basically a hundred watts because otherwise it would blow the
52:09fuse in your car anyway technically you could probably get into the setting and make it actually
52:13run at the 20 amps because the charge controller can accept up to 20 amps so i might set it to the 20 amps
52:20and now i have a unit that can convert a 12 volt battery power to a 48 volt so i could technically with
52:27a 28 volt if i take 12 volts times 20 amps i could get like 240 watts and let's say i connected a battery
52:35pack like this i can convert 12 volt into 48 volt power using this as a head unit and then i could also
52:43use that power to power other devices and technically have a 240 watt volt interlink 240 watt interlink between
52:53this unit and that if i can get into the settings and change that other power stations i don't think
52:58let you do that so i think uh before ending the video i'm gonna need to get into the settings there
53:04and then we could play around with those to kind of see that i do recommend watching this guy's video
53:09because he made a phenomenal video about this and i just watched this one video about this and this is
53:16the only one in my playlist i bought the unit right away i thought the price was very reasonable at
53:20six hundred fifty dollars that i bought it for so now let's uh get this plugged into ac power
53:27see the speed that it's charging at and then also get into the menu
