00:00Every time I've been asked to do any kind of nudity on screen, any type of a love scene,
00:06I've been lucky because I've always believed in the scene.
00:08Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks of actors who, when the part calls for it,
00:14are ready and willing to be both emotionally and physically naked on camera.
00:20We really had to go all the way if we were going to make this movie,
00:22so I was either going to be comfortable doing the scenes or somebody else should do it.
00:26Number 20. Sebastian Stan
00:30Sebastian Stan might be best known for his role as Bucky Barnes in the MCU.
00:34I wasn't in Vienna. I don't do that anymore.
00:37They're entering the building.
00:38Well, the people who think you did are coming here now, and they're not planning on taking you alive.
00:42That's smart. Good strategy.
00:45However, he's included here because of his Falcon and Winter Soldiers.
00:50When he decided to play Tommy Lee in the Pam and Tommy miniseries,
00:53he's stripped down for a strange moment that was, remarkably, based on an actual account from Lee's memoir.
01:01Stan later commented on his decision to do the scene,
01:04elaborating on how he appreciated the honesty that his depiction would bring to the story.
01:08And it's actually a very sweet scene because it's a love confession, you know, to some extent.
01:14It's a love confession to his...
01:17Well, he's realising he's in love with this woman, and he's telling his best friend.
01:21While the most private part of his anatomy was simulated,
01:25the bold commitment still required a great deal of the actor's trust and confidence in his filmmakers.
01:31It's not his first foray into nudity either,
01:34as he's done a hilariously creative sex scene in The Bronze.
01:39Number 19, Viggo Mortensen.
01:41Not only is Viggo Mortensen not afraid to do a nude scene,
01:45he isn't afraid to do one that also requires him to fight two clothed men with knives.
01:50That looked like it was an incredibly brutal scene to shoot.
01:52It was, but it was, I mean, it's David Cronenberg, so you kind of do whatever he says.
01:57Okay, so maybe he was a little scared,
01:59or at least a little nervous about shooting that amazing scene in Eastern Promises.
02:03But he did it.
02:04Just as he also revealed his naked body in all its glory,
02:08in a much funnier and less knives out scene in the 2016 independent film Captain Fantastic.
02:15We're all animals of the earth.
02:17Clothes when we eat.
02:20We're not saying that the nudity was a factor,
02:22but Mortensen was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for both films.
02:28Number 18, Tom Hardy.
02:29Whatever role introduced you to Tom Hardy, there's a good chance you saw him naked.
02:35The HBO miniseries Band of Brothers marked one of his first major roles in 2001.
02:43Where's my stop?
02:46I thought I'd leave it over there, sir.
02:48The part included a love scene that required him to be naked.
02:51He's gone the full Monty more than once in both the TV film Stuart, A Life Backwards,
02:56and the 2008 prison drama Bronson.
03:00Most recently, in the dark period drama Taboo,
03:04Hardy didn't shy away from being without clothes either.
03:08Take that dress off.
03:10If the Venom movies ever go for an R rating,
03:12Hardy might as well help earn it.
03:15Number 17, Sydney Sweeney.
03:17Sydney Sweeney isn't afraid of nude scenes,
03:19but she wishes women who show skin on screen were treated the same as men.
03:23What are you thinking, inviting your grandparents to the...
03:26I wasn't thinking.
03:28I was so excited.
03:29And how are they with it?
03:30I remember getting dressed up.
03:31They said I have the best f*** in Hollywood.
03:36Speaking to The Independent,
03:38Sweeney discussed how men who got naked for a role are still praised for their performance.
03:42It isn't always the same for women.
03:44Discussing her work on Euphoria,
03:46Sweeney said,
03:47I thought it was a great performance,
03:49but no one talks about it because I got naked.
03:52Sweeney felt critics and award groups finally recognized her for The White Lotus,
03:57which didn't entail nudity.
03:59It sounds like you scored.
04:01Yeah, he's super hot.
04:02Congrats.
04:03Of course, Sweeney has since received an Emmy nomination for her work on Euphoria.
04:08So maybe you can strip down and still be taken seriously.
04:12Number 16, Mikiel Hausman.
04:13Dutch actor Mikiel Hausman made a big splash with North American audiences
04:18when he took over the role of Daario Naharis
04:21from actor Ed Screen in the fourth season of Game of Thrones.
04:25Are you here to see our queen?
04:29She's in a good mood.
04:31A role that, as the love interest of Daenerys Targaryen,
04:35required him to spend some time on screen without clothes.
04:38He was more than okay with that,
04:40Given the double standard women have faced regarding nudity on camera,
04:44Hausman was happy to be part of the power dynamic role reversal
04:47with the Mother of Dragons.
04:49Hausman said,
04:50Telling a man to take off his clothes,
04:52where it's often the other way around,
04:55I was happy to be a victim of that.
04:57I hear you had a great love scene, huh?
05:00Yeah.
05:01Thanks.
05:02Number 15, Margot Robbie.
05:04You know the scene in The Wolf of Wall Street
05:06when Margot Robbie's character appears fully naked in the doorway
05:10to seduce Leonardo DiCaprio.
05:12I have an entire line of lingerie.
05:14No camisoles, bustiers, panties.
05:18She designs women's panties too?
05:21Oh my god.
05:22Well, if you thought Martin Scorsese
05:24had to convince Robbie to be fully nude,
05:27you're wrong.
05:28Not only did he not have to convince her,
05:30the no clothes thing was her idea.
05:33The director offered her the option of a robe,
05:35but Robbie felt nudity was the right way to go
05:37for the character and the scene.
05:39It wasn't just about the sex either.
05:41Naomi and I got along.
05:43Robbie hates films that have nudity
05:45just to get a girl naked,
05:46but when it's true to the scene,
05:48she's more than comfortable with it.
05:50Number 14, Michael Fassbender.
05:53If you're sitting there racking your brain
05:54trying to remember when Magneto got naked
05:57in X-Men First Class,
05:58you can stop.
06:00From what I know about you,
06:01I'm surprised you've managed to stay this long.
06:05What do you know about me?
06:08Everything.
06:09Then you'll know to stay out of my head.
06:11That's far from Michael Fassbender's
06:12most revealing performance.
06:14For that, we have to talk about his work
06:16as Bobby Sands in Hunger
06:18and Brandon Sullivan in Shame,
06:21both directed by Steve McQueen.
06:23Fassbender goes full frontal in both films,
06:26while getting naked in front of strangers
06:27isn't something he relishes
06:29in referencing the Sullivan character.
06:31He has said that
06:32it had to be done.
06:34It was an essential part
06:35of getting inside the psyche.
06:37I'm trying.
06:38I'm trying to help you.
06:39How are you helping me, huh?
06:40How are you helping me?
06:42How are you helping me?
06:46Huh?
06:46Look at me.
06:47How are you helping me?
06:49Number 13, Jennifer Lawrence.
06:51In 2014, a hacker broke into
06:53Jennifer Lawrence's email,
06:55revealing private nude photos
06:56of the Oscar-winning actress to the public.
06:59I had just had a lot of insecurities
07:01when it came to sexuality
07:02and nudity and my body,
07:04and I have just been carrying them around
07:05for years.
07:06It was a hard time for Lawrence,
07:08and one that took her years
07:09to come to terms with.
07:11Interestingly enough,
07:12one of the ways she empowered herself
07:14was by doing nude scenes
07:15in her 2018 film, Red Sparrow.
07:18Obviously, it worked,
07:19because a few years later,
07:21she was naked on screen again
07:22in the comedy No Hard Feelings,
07:24a choice she made,
07:26as she told Variety
07:27without a second thought.
07:29Let's go swimming.
07:30Well, there's no lifeguards.
07:33Perfect.
07:33We can go skinny dipping.
07:36Oh, no swimming.
07:39Huh.
07:39We tried.
07:40Number 12, Kate Winslet.
07:42She disrobed for one of the most
07:44famous nude scenes in cinema history.
07:47Being sketched by Leonardo DiCaprio
07:48in Titanic is just one of the many times
07:51Kate Winslet has removed
07:52her clothes for a role.
07:54Jack, I want you to draw me
07:55like one of your French girls.
07:58Wearing this.
08:00All right.
08:03Wearing only this.
08:05In fact, it's something
08:06she's been doing throughout her career
08:07when the role called for it.
08:09From 1996's Jude to Ammonite in 2020.
08:13Being 43 at the time,
08:15Winslet was surprised
08:16at how good she felt
08:17about filming the nude scenes
08:18for the latter.
08:19Instead of shying away
08:20from her older body,
08:22Winslet embraced it
08:23with all of its marks
08:25and scars.
08:26I'm really comfortable
08:27in my own skin.
08:29You know,
08:29and I'm comfortable
08:29with all the imperfections
08:30that I have
08:31and I don't feel
08:32the need to hide
08:33any of those things
08:34because I do think
08:35it's very important
08:35that women on screen
08:37are portrayed
08:38as real women.
08:39Number 11, Eva Green.
08:41Eva Green is very shy,
08:43but you wouldn't know it
08:44from her willingness
08:45to be nude on camera.
08:46I am so shy
08:47and at the same time
08:50I kind of expose myself
08:51literally to thousands of people
08:54and, you know,
08:55this is my body,
08:56but I still don't really understand
08:58why I do that
08:59and I go,
08:59I need to go through therapy.
09:01Even she doesn't understand
09:02the paradoxical nature
09:04of those two things.
09:05But it's been that way
09:06since she first burst
09:07onto the scene
09:08in her film debut
09:09as Isabelle
09:10in 2003's The Dreamers,
09:13a role that required her
09:14to be naked quite a bit.
09:15Since then,
09:16she's continued
09:17to not shy away
09:18from nudity,
09:19from Sin City,
09:20A Dame to Kill For
09:21to Penny Dreadful
09:22to name just a couple
09:24of her emotionally
09:25and physically bared roles.
09:27Do I have a choice?
09:29Vanessa, please,
09:30you always had a choice.
09:33You allowed all this to happen.
09:35Number 10, Chris Pine.
09:36My lord,
09:38it's no time to retire
09:39to your bedchamber.
09:40Please follow me.
09:42Even the most risque nude scenes
09:44from the past
09:44often have one particular
09:46double standard going for them.
09:48Gender-biased nudity.
09:50Specifically,
09:50a sex scene might require
09:52a great deal more nudity
09:53from a female actor
09:54than a male.
09:55However,
09:56actors like Chris Pine
09:57are working to change
09:58that dynamic,
09:59one nude scene at a time.
10:01Alas, we are but king
10:02and queen of the May.
10:07And tomorrow we'll come
10:08to strip us of our crowns.
10:10Pine and co-star Florence Pugh
10:12were both tasked
10:13with a love scene
10:14in the 2018 Netflix film
10:16Outlaw King.
10:18Pine, to his credit,
10:19bared it all alongside
10:20his co-star,
10:21yet was surprised
10:22at the backlash.
10:24He spoke to the mirror
10:25and defended his decision,
10:26asking,
10:27Is Florence expected to do that
10:28because she is a woman
10:29and I'm not expected
10:30to do that
10:31because I'm a man?
10:32So there's a scene
10:33in the film
10:33where I bear the full Monty.
10:38And yeah,
10:39that seemed to...
10:41Well, yeah.
10:43You go, Chris.
10:45Number nine,
10:46Ken Jeong.
10:47I have to ask you this
10:48because when you jump
10:49out of that trunk
10:50in The Hangover,
10:51he's fully there.
10:55The full Monty.
10:57The idea behind
10:58Ken Jeong's hilarious
10:59nude scenes
11:00in The Hangover franchise
11:01actually came from
11:03the man himself,
11:04believe it or not.
11:05Jeong revealed
11:06as much to AOL
11:07during an interview
11:08conducted back in 2017.
11:10Multiple takes
11:11were done of Jeong
11:12leaping out of the trunk
11:13of a car,
11:14but it was the actor's pitch
11:15to director Todd Phillips
11:17that sealed the deal.
11:18This isn't your fault.
11:19I'll get you some pants.
11:21Jeong sort of made
11:22going in the buff
11:23tradition after that,
11:24going nude again
11:25with The Hangover Part 2
11:27in 2011,
11:28proving that he
11:29absolutely wasn't afraid
11:30to tempt naked fate
11:32a second time.
11:38Number eight,
11:39Lena Dunham.
11:40Sorry, you really
11:44scared me out of it.
11:46No, thank you.
11:47The promotion of
11:47body positivity in cinema
11:49isn't something
11:50that happened overnight.
11:51It also isn't only
11:52part of the big screen
11:53either.
11:54Lena Dunham helped
11:55promote the beauty
11:56of all bodies
11:57during her nude scenes
11:58for the HBO series
11:59Girls.
12:00I do a lot of sex scenes
12:01in this show
12:01and I'm usually nude
12:03for them because
12:03unlike so many films
12:05we see where women
12:05are having sex
12:06in like a kind of
12:06a perky negligee,
12:08a lot of times
12:08people get naked
12:09to have sex, I think.
12:10I never have, actually.
12:11Meanwhile, the actor,
12:13writer and director
12:14purposefully defied
12:15the accepted norms
12:16of who should
12:17and shouldn't
12:18do on-screen nudity
12:20and wasn't afraid
12:21to document her
12:22feelings in the press.
12:23Her interviews
12:24with outlets
12:24such as Marie Claire,
12:26The Guardian
12:26and Refinery29
12:27all point to an actor
12:29who was fighting
12:30for freedom
12:30of sexual expression
12:32with her work.
12:33It wasn't always
12:33an easy road
12:34but Dunham's
12:35fearlessness
12:36allowed many other
12:37artists to tread
12:38similar creative paths
12:40with less fear.
12:41I'm so confused.
12:42Me too.
12:43Number 7,
12:44Jason Segel.
12:45Hello.
12:46Hi.
12:47And welcome
12:48to Annie
12:49and Jay's
12:51A Night
12:51with Annie and Jay.
12:52I'm Jay
12:53and this is
12:54my lovely wife Annie
12:55and tonight
12:56we intend
12:56to demonstrate
12:57every position
12:58in the joy of sex.
13:01On-screen nudity
13:02doesn't necessarily
13:02need to be titillating.
13:04Case in point,
13:05the full frontal nude scene
13:07from Jason Segel
13:08in the 2008 film
13:09Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
13:11I got a surprise
13:12for you.
13:14This intentionally
13:16shocking
13:16and very funny scene
13:18was actually
13:18the actor's idea
13:19proving that he was
13:21unafraid of any
13:22audience repercussions.
13:23Part of the reasoning
13:24behind Segel's nude scene
13:25was to represent
13:26his character
13:27hitting his lowest point.
13:29Why don't you just
13:29put some clothes on,
13:30okay?
13:30I'm not gonna go
13:31put clothes on.
13:32I know what that means.
13:33If I put clothes on,
13:34it's over.
13:34The resulting embarrassment
13:35at being dumped
13:36by the titular
13:37Sarah Marshall
13:38was described by Segel
13:39during a 2015 interview
13:41with Vulture
13:41as something that
13:43wasn't just
13:44for shock value.
13:46Number 6,
13:47Catherine Watterson.
13:48Hi, Shazda.
13:51Hi, Doc.
13:52For some actors,
13:53on-screen nudity
13:54is just one part
13:55of the process
13:56they go through
13:56as performers.
13:58This definitely applies
13:59to Catherine Watterson,
14:00who said as much
14:01during interviews
14:02with outlets
14:03like the New York Daily News
14:04and the Huffington Post.
14:06Her interview
14:07with the former
14:07saw Watterson
14:08connecting the vulnerability
14:10of nudity
14:10with the acting process.
14:12I don't think
14:13it's that big of a deal,
14:14honestly.
14:15I wish there was more
14:16male nudity in films,
14:17however,
14:18because men are naked
14:19all the time
14:20and you never see it.
14:21Luckily,
14:21that's never gonna happen.
14:22I just think it's uneven.
14:23Meanwhile,
14:24the actor discussed
14:25her full frontal scene
14:26in the 2014 film
14:27Inherent Vice
14:28in the Huffington Post,
14:29describing the work
14:31as liberating
14:32and freeing.
14:33Sure,
14:33not every actor
14:34may feel this way,
14:35but we certainly admire
14:36Catherine Watterson's position
14:38on a very challenging
14:39aspect of the craft.
14:41They told me
14:42I was precious cargo
14:44that couldn't be insured
14:45because of Inherent Vice.
14:48What's that?
14:52I don't know.
14:54Number five,
14:55Alexander Skarsgård.
14:59We're firmly of the mind
15:04that Alexander Skarsgård
15:05should absolutely
15:06reap the rewards
15:07of all of his hard work
15:08in the gym
15:09by doing as many nude seeds
15:11as his heart desires.
15:13People are slightly
15:14more comfortable
15:15with nudity in Sweden
15:16and I also come from
15:18a family,
15:18my dad,
15:19and especially his side
15:20of the family,
15:21are old hippies
15:22and bohemians
15:24and I think I was 14
15:27the first time
15:28I saw my dad
15:28wearing pants.
15:30Skarsgård may come
15:31from an acting family,
15:32but he certainly blazed
15:33a trail on both
15:34the small and large screens.
15:36I'm bored.
15:38Take off your clothes.
15:42A little privacy?
15:46Everybody out.
15:47His brushes with nudity
15:49may have first entered
15:50the cultural zeitgeist
15:51back in the HBO series
15:52True Blood,
15:53but Skarsgård
15:54hasn't stopped pushing
15:55the physical envelope
15:56with his performances.
15:58The actor's work
15:59on Robert Eggers'
16:00The Northman,
16:01in particular,
16:03showcased a heretofore
16:04unseen physicality
16:05from Skarsgård
16:06that was as shocking
16:07as it was sexually charged.
16:10Number four,
16:11Charlize Theron.
16:12Charlize Theron has seen
16:14both sides
16:14of the on-screen nudity coin.
16:16On one hand,
16:17the actor's early work
16:18often saw Theron
16:19performing in sexually
16:20provocative sequences
16:22for films like
16:23Reindeer Games
16:24and Two Days in the Valley
16:25that required
16:26explicit nudity.
16:28Meanwhile,
16:28more recent features
16:29like Atomic Blonde
16:30saw Theron's nudity
16:31being utilised
16:32to tell a story,
16:33rather than just
16:34for purient titillation.
16:36Do you pay attention?
16:40I look for pleasure
16:42in the details.
16:43It's a respite,
16:44a moment of calm
16:45in the bath for recovery
16:46during a film
16:47that's packed
16:48with violent action.
16:50Furthermore,
16:50Theron has told outlets
16:52such as
16:53The Daily Telegraph
16:54and W Magazine
16:55about how she has
16:56no issues with nudity
16:57if the scene
16:58requires it
16:59to make sense.
17:00These relationships
17:01aren't real.
17:02They're just a means
17:03to an end.
17:07When you tell the truth,
17:09you look different.
17:10Your eyes change.
17:12Thanks for the warning.
17:15Number three,
17:16Ewan McGregor.
17:17Take your clothes off.
17:20All of them.
17:26There are some actors
17:28who just don't feel
17:29the need to contextualise
17:30or explain away
17:31the frequency
17:32of their nude scenes.
17:34Instead,
17:34they relish the thought
17:35and lean into those scenes
17:37with an almost
17:38gleeful zeal.
17:40Ewan McGregor
17:41has certainly come across
17:42this way
17:43in some interviews
17:44over the years,
17:45such as the one
17:45he did with
17:46Out Magazine
17:47while promoting
17:48Velvet Goldmine
17:49in 1998.
17:50We set out
17:51to change the world.
17:54Ended up
17:55just changing ourselves.
17:56McGregor utilised
17:57words like
17:58power and rush
17:59to describe
18:00going full frontal
18:01on screen.
18:02And it's this
18:03matter-of-factness
18:04that makes the actor's
18:05attitude so refreshing.
18:06Just maybe don't bet
18:08on seeing
18:09Obi-Wan's lightsaber
18:10for any
18:11Star Wars-related
18:12media anytime soon.
18:14All right.
18:15Well, you owe me one
18:16and not for saving
18:16your skin for the
18:17tenth time.
18:18Ninth time.
18:20That business
18:20on Cato Neimoidia
18:21doesn't count.
18:23Number two,
18:23Monica Bellucci.
18:25Italy's Monica Bellucci
18:26is another actor
18:27that's performed
18:28on-screen nudity
18:29with wildly
18:30varying tonal shades.
18:32The actor's
18:38natural beauty
18:39has been celebrated
18:40in films like
18:41Milena
18:41or Bram Stoker's
18:43Dracula
18:43and even in
18:45outlandish
18:46exploitation fare
18:47like 2007's
18:48Shoot'em Up.
18:49Wait your turn,
18:50Smith.
18:51There's plenty
18:52to go around.
18:52Not for me,
18:53thanks.
18:53I'm lactose intolerant.
18:55However,
18:55Bellucci has also
18:56featured in nude
18:57scenes where the plot
18:58ventured into
18:59truly dark territory
19:00such as 2002's
19:02Irreversible.
19:16The actor has
19:17remained professional
19:18and unafraid
19:19throughout it all,
19:21even telling
19:21Entertainment Weekly
19:22in 2002 that
19:24nudity was
19:24something magic
19:25and pure.
19:27Bellucci went on,
19:27however,
19:28to state her
19:28opposition to nudity
19:29that she felt
19:30was gratuitous,
19:32describing her
19:32personal attitude
19:33as one she
19:34cultivated growing
19:36up in Europe.
19:37Before we unveil
19:38our top pick,
19:39here are a few
19:39honourable mentions.
19:41Viola Davis.
19:42She was proud
19:43of her body
19:44in How to Get
19:45Away with Murder.
19:46I saw it as an
19:47opportunity for
19:48a dark-skinned
19:48actress of 50
19:50to be in a role
19:51that sexualised,
19:52not sexy.
19:53There's a difference
19:54between sexualised
19:56and sexy.
19:56Ashton Kutcher.
19:57No clothes attached
19:59in No Strings Attached.
20:01Where are my pants?
20:02Um,
20:03I don't know.
20:04It could be anywhere.
20:05Here's a coffee.
20:07Sharon Stone.
20:09Nudity is a basic
20:10instinct.
20:13It's nice.
20:15Ana de Armas.
20:17You can't be afraid
20:18of nudity
20:18if you're going
20:19to be playing
20:20Marilyn Monroe.
20:21She's a prude.
20:24Miss Golden Dreams,
20:25all people.
20:35Human body
20:36is meant to be seen.
20:39Mila Jovovich.
20:40From the fifth element
20:41to waking up naked
20:42in the shower
20:43in Resident Evil.

21:06Number one,
21:07Angelina Jolie.
21:08The career arc
21:09of an actor
21:09often takes them
21:10in different places
21:11as they age.
21:12You resist happiness.
21:13Don't quote some book
21:15and try to handle
21:15your life.
21:17Are you trying
21:17to illustrate your point
21:18by making me unhappy?
21:20The Angelina Jolie
21:21that performed nude
21:22in 2015's By the Sea
21:23was not the same person
21:24who appeared in films
21:25like Cyborg 2,
21:27Hackers
21:27or Original Sin.
21:29Christ,
21:31you'll be the death of me.
21:33No.
21:36I hope so.
21:38All of those films
21:39featured nudity
21:39in a sexualized context,
21:41performed by a younger actor.
21:43Yet,
21:44By the Sea
21:44also featured
21:45a nude Jolie,
21:46this time
21:47after a real-life
21:48double mastectomy.
21:49The actor and director
21:50told the New York Times
21:51how the scene
21:52required a nude performance
21:53and how Jolie's
21:54personal challenges
21:55wouldn't get
21:56in the way of her art.
21:58This all ties
21:58into Angelina Jolie's
22:00bohemian
22:00and non-conforming
22:02dedication
22:02to her career.
22:03You're smiling.
22:04Now my outsides
22:10match my insides.
22:12Which of these
22:13revealing performances
22:14do you remember most?
22:15Let us know
22:16in the comments.
22:17Don't let me down, buddy.
22:18I'm not letting you down at all.
22:19No, I wasn't talking
22:20to you.
22:21I was talking...
22:22Don't let me down.
