'Show Us The Trump Map!': Lloyd Doggett Accuses Texas Republicans Of Hiding New Congressional Maps

During a press conference on Wednesday, Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) spoke about a proposal to redistrict Texas's congressional maps.

00:00Thank you very much, Mark, for your leadership on this.

00:02I think that so many people will remember last year during his campaign,

00:07President Trump told one group that if they voted for him that time,

00:11they wouldn't need to vote again.

00:13Well, this is part of that effort to start the next election.

00:17It starts in Texas, but he clearly plans to extend it across America

00:21and pick up as many seats as he can with crooked lines instead of honest votes.

00:26The stakes here are much more important than me or any individual up here.

00:33We have the opportunity to serve briefly on behalf of our state,

00:37but what is at stake here is the future of American democracy

00:41because Trump knows if we have a Democratic House, it has subpoena power.

00:46It has the opportunity to set the agenda.

00:48It has the opportunity to have a big say in the appropriation process,

00:52the power of the purse, which these Republicans have increasingly turned over to the White House.

00:59So much at stake for the future of our country.

01:02Now, when the legislature is considering this,

01:05I believe there won't be a Senate map or an Abbott map or a House map.

01:10There will only be one map that counts,

01:13and that's the one that President Trump drew for the Republican delegation over here at the White House.

01:17And so I believe the outcry of every Texan should be, show us the Trump map.

01:23Show us the Trump map that Trump says will replace five Democrats with five willing Republicans

01:29because that Trump map is what ultimately they will impose.

01:34They are hiding it today.

01:36They are secreting it.

01:37They hope after they go through the charade of these public hearings

01:41that they can pop it on the legislature at the last minute,

01:45spring it on them, and pass it in a matter of hours to deceive the public.

01:49So show us the Trump map.

01:51You were so proud of it.

01:52You were so sure of it that you could replace five Democrats in an honest way.
