00:00The first day of on-field work with the New York Giants came with a promise and a guarantee
00:05and the naming of a starter for the G-Men. It's Russell Wilson and it was very matter-of-fact DRS.
00:13No coach speak, no uncertainty. Let's hear from the head man in New York himself,
00:18Brian Dayball, tell reporters. Can any of the other quarterbacks challenge
00:22Russell for the week one starting job? Where's that door closed? That's his.
00:26Yeah, like I said, these guys will be out here competing, but Russ is our starter.
00:30There you go, DRS. Russell Wilson named the week one starter for the New York Giants.
00:37Earlier in the offseason, we had a market up. Week one starting quarterback,
00:41a few quarterback battles around the NFL. The Giants included because they drafted Jackson Dart
00:47and they also signed Jameis Winston this offseason, but Russ was a minus 1250 favorite to be named
00:54the week one starter, Brian Dayball confirms yesterday.
00:57Of course, he's supposed to be the week one starter. That was the goal all along because,
01:02again, you're looking at an organization that's saying, okay, I think we may have drafted our
01:05franchise quarterback. He's just not ready. We're in a holding pattern. There's other good teams in
01:09the NFL. Next year won't be our year, but let's reset the foundation for in the future. I'm going to
01:14show you I could be the head coach that's going to take us into the quote-unquote 21st century with
01:18Jackson Dart as my quarterback and away we go. The only question is, what is this season actually
01:23going to look like? If you want just to get as many wins as possible, it is smart to have Russell
01:28Wilson as your quarterback. You at least get competency back there, right? You might not get
01:31unbelievable performances like we saw 10 years ago in Seattle, but you will get competent
01:36performances which will keep you in the game and maybe you can steal some wins. So at the end of
01:39the season, you can tell your ownership group, hey, we are supposed to win five games this year.
01:44We won six games this year. Next year, Jackson Dart will be ready. Let's go ahead and get this
01:48thing kick-started once again. It's going to be a tough year for the Giants, particularly their
01:52fans as well, because you are going to start to scream after a while. We have no excitement this
01:57year. We're not winning a ton of football games. Can we at least see Jackson Dart? That's going to be
02:01the internal struggle that you're going to have for the Giants this season. Not winning 10 games,
02:0411 games and making a playoff run. It's just when is the time to pull the plug on Russell
02:08Wilson before we see Jackson Dart? So at least Abel's being honest. Hey, you know what?
02:12Brought him in to be our starter. He's our starter week number one, and we'll go from
02:15there at this point. As you see that schedule, there's not very many wins out there. Almost
02:19like the Super Bowl is going to be that Saints game. Like, we better get a win here or all
02:24of our jobs are on the line because we don't know when that win is going to come. I think
02:28the Giants will be a good foundational team, which means we're not expecting, Ben, 28 to
02:3210 every week. They just get blown out, but they're just not going to be as good as the
02:36competition. But at least Russell Wilson will implode games where it's like, hey, we thought
02:41we had a chance to win like we saw Will Levis down in Tennessee throwing pick six after
02:44pick six. They'll be competitive, and that might be the best you could say about the Giants,
02:48but Russ should be the starter week one and is.
