00:00I chose to do my demonstration during my curtain call, a moment for myself.
00:05I chose to make it about something bigger than me.
00:07I did it because I want to draw attention to the atrocities that are taking place towards
00:12the Palestinian people by Israeli defense forces currently in Gaza.
00:17The people who get to go and see opera, who have the opportunity to go and see opera,
00:23are the ones with power and influence to be able to help, however they're remaining silent.
00:29The right wing media coverage has been honestly quite comical to me.
00:34I believe they're trying to make a mockery of me and a mockery of my defiance and steer
00:40the story away from the actual story of what is happening in Gaza right now.
00:45In the past two days, 18 people have died from starvation due to Israeli food blockade.
00:53The United Nations and the International Court of Justice recognise that this is a
00:59genocide.
01:00So I find it disgusting that my act of resistance has been called inappropriate by the Royal Opera House.
01:09When the curtain came down, Oliver Mears came on stage and said to me very aggressively,
01:16say, you will never work for the Opera House ever again.
01:21In which I responded, I don't give a flying fuck.
01:26I acted alone in my demonstration because I have felt quite alone trying to have these conversations
01:33with others in the industry.
01:35And as artists, we are lucky enough to have these platforms that reach huge audiences.
01:42Therefore, I feel we have a responsibility to use them.
01:47And that goes for producers, creatives, anyone that is working in the industry.
01:54Use your platform.
