00:01In a series of coordinated raids over two days, Penang police arrested four men and seized over 112 kilograms of ganja worth 3.7 million ringgit.
00:13Acting Penang Police Chief Datuk Mohamed Alwi Zainal Abidin said the arrest began Tuesday morning when narcotics officers raided a hotel in Bukit Myrtajam.
00:23Three men were taken into custody, one of whom was acting as a transporter for the syndicate.
00:28Initial searches uncovered over 13 kilograms of ganja and ganja buds.
00:35Following interrogation, police arrested a Vietnamese man in Seberang Jaya and brought him to a nearby homestay, which was used by the syndicate as a drug storage facility.
00:45The homestay raid proved to be the bigger prize.
00:47Officers discovered 105 packages of ganja buds weighing nearly 98 kilograms, bringing the total seizure to over 112 kilograms.
00:58Mohamed Alwi said the syndicate sourced its drugs from international networks in neighbouring countries,
01:04smuggling them overland into Malaysia for distribution in Penang and Kuala Lumpur.
01:08Beyond the drugs, police also seized cash and three vehicles worth nearly 200,000 ringgit.
01:35Mohamed Alwi said the three Malaysian suspects all tested positive for drugs and have extensive criminal records.
01:43All four men have been remanded for seven days to assist with the investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
01:52Officers are now actively tracking the mastermind and other network members believed to still be in the state.
