00:00Lions GM Brad Holmes just dropped an absolute bombshell update on Ali McNeil we got to talk

00:05about it. Hi this is Mike Payton from A to Z Sports Detroit today we're going to talk about

00:11the absolute bombshell update we just got on Ali McNeil from Lions GM Brad Holmes. First off let's

00:18talk about the obvious Ali McNeil tours ACL back in December and the floated timetable that's been

00:24put out by the Lions since the league meetings in April has been a possible November return.

00:31Speaking with Jeff Miller and Dan Miller on Sirius XM radio on Tuesday Lions GM Brad Holmes offered up

00:37a more positive update that could see McNeil returning earlier than that. Here's what

00:44Holmes had to say still having a lean on his way back which I think has the potential to be a little

00:48bit earlier than expected because he's doing great right now we feel very confident about that. That's

00:54huge for the Lions. If they can get him back earlier than November that is such a big deal and the

00:59reason why is because October is going to be arguably the hardest month for the Lions. They've got the

01:04Bengals on the road they've got the Chiefs on the road they've got the Buccaneers at home. That's two

01:09playoff teams and one expected playoff team. You need to win these games you need to have the best

01:15guys that you can have out on the field for these games especially when you're going against Joe Burrow

01:20Patrick Mahomes and Baker Mayfield. These are three really good quarterbacks two of which are

01:24probably top five quarterbacks maybe the best guys in the league. So you need all the pass rush that

01:30you can get and having McNeil back early would be a huge plus for the Lions. We'll see what happens

01:36where it goes. It all has to continue to roll along and be positive and and the rehab has to continue

01:43to go well. Potentially they're putting him on his 21 day practice window sometime in September and if

01:49that happens you get him back in October that's huge but getting him back early even if it's just

01:54a couple weeks earlier than you expected to have him it's a plus. So this is huge news for the Lions.
