00:00Lions have a chance to sign the best linebacker in the entire world outside of America.
00:06Let's talk about it.
00:09Hi, this is Mike Payne from A to Z Sports Detroit.
00:12Today, we're going to talk about something a little bit off the wall.
00:15The Detroit Lions have a chance to sign this great linebacker named Keenan Wolfe, who currently
00:20plays for Gallos Negros de Cotterero in the Liga Football de Americano Profesional.
00:28Wow, that's the LFA in Mexico.
00:31That's the Cotterero Black Roosters for the English translation.
00:36Keenan Wolfe is the best linebacker in that entire league, led the league in tackles, broke
00:42all the single season records, broke the single game record for tackle, potentially soon be
00:48named the defensive player of the year in that league.
00:52It's really interesting how the Lions could even find this guy, but they have actually
00:57looked at him before.
00:59When he was coming out of Moorhead State in 2023, the Lions were at his pro day.
01:04They saw him working out.
01:05They saw what he could bring.
01:0724 other teams at that pro day, and every team decided that they weren't going to draft
01:11him or sign him as an undrafted free agent.
01:14He made his way over to the EuroLeague in Germany and led that league in tackles and was
01:21the best defensive player in that league and then moved up.
01:24It's actually a move up from the EuroLeague to the league in Mexico.
01:28There's a lot more talent there, and then he proved to be the best defensive player in
01:33that league.
01:34The next step is, hey, you get an invite to camp.
01:38Maybe you show what you have and maybe you're a practice squad guy or potentially you go to
01:44the CFL and see what you could do over there.
01:46The UFL is another one.
01:48He'd have to wait until the springtime for that, which would be quite a wait.
01:51But it's an interesting idea because this guy has shown that he could at least tackle.
01:57He can close.
01:58He's got closing speed.
01:59He could do a bunch of stuff.
02:00And the Lions have already seen him.
02:02And he's clearly continued to work on his game and has shown to be the best player outside
02:08of America, at least outside of fun, probably Canada too.
02:12But I just think that this would be a fun idea for the Lions, see what they could do, see
02:17if they can get.
02:18They're not adverse to signing players from outside of the country either.
02:21They did it last year with Matthew Betts.
02:23Ahmed Hassanin is Egyptian.
02:25He's new to the team.
02:27Obviously, he played some American college ball.
02:29David Bata, the Lions signed him last year out of Germany.
02:33Patrick Murtaugh was a tight end from Australia that they had for a little bit.
02:37So they're not adverse to trying things, you know, players from different countries.
02:42Giovanni Manu is another one from British Columbia.
02:45It's interesting.
02:46It's an idea.
02:47Love to see it happen.
02:48I would love to know what you guys think if the Lions signed the best linebacker from
02:53the Mexico League to see what he could bring.
02:56Let me know what you guys think in the comments below and we will talk to you next time.
