At a press briefing on Tuesday, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) ripped Speaker Johnson for ending the House session early to avoid a vote on the Epstein files.
Transcript
00:00We had a great meeting of our Senate and House Democratic leadership, and we're in agreement.
00:08We all want to pursue a bipartisan, bicameral appropriations process.
00:16That's how it's always been done successfully, and we believe that should happen.
00:22However, the Republicans are making it extremely difficult to do that.
00:27One, which Rosa will talk about, by putting out a budget that is way beyond where everybody is at.
00:34But two, by talking about rescissions, pocket rescissions, impoundment, which would undo anything that we did in the budgets.
00:44So we are going to push hard to try and get this done, but make no mistake about it.
00:50The Republicans are making it much, much harder.
00:52One final thing.
00:54Speaker Johnson shouldn't be skedaddling out of town.
00:58He should be sitting here and negotiating with us, and instead, because he's so afraid of what people might say about Jeffries.
01:09Sorry.
01:11Jeffries as well.
01:12Yes.
01:13He might say about Jeffries, but what he might say about Jeffrey Epstein.
01:18And so he's not doing his job, and he should get back here and start negotiating, but they're running away.
01:25Hakeem.
