00:00Few memes have stood the test of time quite like Burger King Foot Lettuce.
00:03But recently, some tragic news has been spreading about the subject of the meme.
00:07Number 15, Burger King Foot Lettuce.
00:10Earlier this month, news broke that YouTuber Epic Alex Time,
00:13who claimed to be the one who stood in the lettuce, died unexpectedly in his home.
00:17Now, he's being memorialized on his Discord server, Foot Lettuce Family.
00:21So what exactly is the Burger King Foot Lettuce meme?
00:24How did Epic Alex Time die?
00:26And how can he help remember his legacy?
00:28Here's what you need to know.
00:29Back in July 2012, a photograph of someone standing in two bins of lettuce
00:32at a Burger King restaurant in Ohio was posted to 4chan.
00:36The post, allegedly made by a Burger King employee, read,
00:39This is the lettuce you eat at Burger King.
00:41Rather than disappear forever like most 4chan posts,
00:44an anonymous 4chan user instead dug into the data of the photo
00:47and managed to dox the employee's information.
00:50This led to the employee standing in the lettuce,
00:52who we now know to be YouTuber Epic Alex Time,
00:54getting fired along with the manager and the friend who took the photo.
00:58The image of Alex in the lettuce became a big meme over the following years,
01:01inspiring Photoshop, edits, and most notably,
01:04the number 15 Burger King Foot Lettuce meme,
01:07after YouTuber Chills covered the story in 2017.
01:10In 2025, YouTuber Epic Alex Time came forward with a video claiming he was the subject of the Burger King Foot Lettuce meme.
01:17In his video, he told the full story of the experience.
01:20He later expanded on the details of the story in an interview with us,
01:24during which he talked about the effects it had on his life
01:27and expressed regret for standing in the lettuce.
01:29He also spoke about his struggles with seizures.
01:31If I could go back in time, I would not do it. Absolutely not.
01:35I don't care how iconic it is, man.
01:38I'm not... I'm going back and I'm undoing that.
01:41It has followed me for so long and I'm just... I don't... I wish it never happened.
01:48Alex, an Ohio resident, was working to launch a career as a content creator.
01:52In 2025, he posted numerous videos, including essays on a variety of topics,
01:57and even auditioned for the reality web series, Fish Tank.
02:00On July 10th, 2025, a friend of Alex's and the mod for his Discord server
02:05announced to the server that Alex had passed away.
02:07While no cause of death has been confirmed, word is that it was related to his seizures.
02:11Purportedly, they had been worsening over the past few months.
02:14A GoFundMe page was set up to raise money for Alex's funeral
02:17and the emotional, moral, and financial support of his family.
02:21In about a week, the GoFundMe raised over $3,800,
02:24including a big donation seemingly from Chills,
02:26who left the comment,
02:28I didn't know Alex personally, but I followed his YouTube channel
02:31and always got the sense that he was a kind, sincere person.
