00:00Queen changes his route and goes to g7 with mate.
00:10And now let's have a quick look at a game between two great champions,
00:14Michael Batvinnik and Tigran Petrosyan.
00:18As you can see, white has a material advantage, it's an extra exchange.
00:23Black has some compensation, and Batvinnik, who was pressing in his game,
00:27misplayed at one point, and eventually made a blunder.
00:34Happens even in the game for great players.
00:38And here Petrosyan delivered the final blow by using a few themes,
00:44but one quiet move, bishop e4.
00:47And white has resigned, because this bishop is overloaded.
00:58It's a deadly pin, an absolute pin, because the king is here,
01:02and rook cannot be protected.
01:04So white has to take on e4, and then rook takes on e2, and white position collapses.
01:10And if you take on d2, then after e2, it's an amazing situation,
01:15where white rook is dominated, because it cannot stop this pawn from promoting.
01:20And the bishop, which technically controls this square, it's pinned.
01:25So that's why bishop will be eliminated, and the promotion is inevitable.
01:29So, simple, but very effective.
01:31Bishop e4, and white is lost.
01:42And now it's time for a test, for a challenge.
01:47This time, it comes from my own game.
01:50The game I played against Vasily Ivanchuk, another Linaros tournament.
01:55Not my best Linaros, actually Karpov's best Linaros, 1994.
01:59The game I played against Vasily Ivanchuk, 1994.
