00:00Retired police officers, today, July 21st, 2025, stage of protest
00:29police in Abuja over poor pension payment following the circulation of viral videos posted by retired officers of the Nigeria Police Force. They appeared in separate videos now going viral on social media.
00:46I retired from the Nigerian police in October 1st. Since then, nothing has been paid to me.
01:06Just two weeks back, they called me that they are going to pay me three million naira.
01:17What for? They say, that is my pension. Lo and behold, the three million naira is not just the whole pension.
01:36That one million naira is my arias for the time, from the time I retired to date.
01:49Then two million naira is my entitlement.
01:58I cannot serve this country for a good 35 years and been paid two million naira.
02:12The devil is a liar. Please, the IG, let the IG hear this.
02:25One retired deputy superintendent of police revealed he received only 2.4 million naira after 35 years in the force,
02:35describing the amount as bitterly inadequate and unacceptable.
02:41Just last week, I received a text from the trust fund pension.
02:48They have received my bond and applied for my benefit.
02:55On reaching there, they gave me consent form to sign, which I saw they listed my benefits.
03:03One, my gratitude is two million seventy thousand naira.
03:07Second, the arias, my nine month arias, nine month, is three hundred and sixty eight thousand naira.
03:18And my monthly pension is forty six thousand fifty five quap.
03:23The whole total they had to give me is two point four million naira.
03:30Two point four million naira, the whole total, and the monthly pension is forty six thousand fifty five quap.
03:37I don't even know. I don't have to say much, but I only want to flee. I want to flee to the Mr. President.
03:50The protest took place at the force headquarters in Abuja.
03:54Retired officers, civil society members, and concerned citizens gathered to demand immediate pension reform and improved welfare for both serving and retired personnel.
04:09The purpose of my coming here is that the federal government forced me to be in contributing to the pension scheme.
04:16After my thirty five years in service, I stopped with the government, I struggled, I even fought war.
04:23I went to Liberia, in the benefit of our country, Nigeria.
04:29I worked in this country for a good thirty five years.
04:33And after my retirement, I was being attached with Africa Alliance Company.
04:38Africa Alliance Company was paying me chicken charge of forty forty thousand naira.
04:45Every month.
04:46Every month.
04:47But now, it's almost nine months without paying me pension.
04:51Nine months without paying me pension.
04:53They didn't pay that forty thousand.
04:56Yes.
04:57I was going to Africa Alliance office.
04:59I went to NICOM office.
05:01I went to Pencom office.
05:03The Pencom office said that they split them down to Africa Alliance.
05:08I have to go to Africa Alliance.
05:09I launched my complaint.
05:10They said they are going to clear the UPAs and the NPRs.
05:13I even launched a complaint there.
05:15Why is it that they will call us for verification?
05:18They are supposed at least to send somebody to come and barricade us.
05:21They are supposed to call somebody to come and barricade us.
05:24It is their duty to barricade us, to come to our end.
05:28I am here because of my benefits.
05:31I was retired since 2017.
05:36And they have paid me twenty thousand only.
05:40Every month.
05:41Every month they have given me twenty thousand.
05:43I am a retired inspector.
05:45I served for thirty-five years.
05:47What do you want government to do now?
05:49I want them to pay us our money.
05:51I will not pack until when they pay us our money.
05:53We are not living in this place.
05:54Until when they pay us our money.
05:56Before we live here.
05:58After my retirement.
05:59It was two million one hundred.
06:01It has been given to me.
06:02As a deputy superintendent of police.
06:05And every month.
06:07My monthly pension is thirty-five thousand.
06:10And we have one useless RSA.
06:15That RSA, my money in that RSA balance was six million seven hundred.
06:24But I don't have access to withdraw neither inside that RSA account.
06:29And that is the reason why we are here for.
06:32This protest will stay long until all our demand is being paid to us before we leave this protest.
06:39Protesters carried placards with messages such as.
06:43Police deserve better.
06:45Thirty-five years of service shouldn't end in poverty.
06:49And reform police pension now.
06:52During the protest.
06:54The commissioner of police for federal capital territory.
06:57CP Ajao Adewale addressed the demonstrators.
07:02He acknowledged their grievances and assured them that their concerns would be communicated to the appropriate authorities for necessary action.
07:12For the first time, I want to repeat it.
07:15It is the governor of police.
07:17My governor of police is coming to address all the people of police to do that.
07:22In response to growing public concern, ACP Muiwa Adejabi, the force public relations officer, issued a statement.
07:36Reaffirming the police leadership's commitment to the welfare of both serving and retired officers.
07:44This statement came in the context of a planned protest by retired officers regarding their pension and welfare.
07:54Retired officers say they will continue their peaceful demonstrations until meaningful reforms are implemented in the police pension system.
08:05I want them to pay us our money. I will not pack until when they pay us our money.
08:09We are not living in this place until when they pay us our money before we leave here.
08:13This protest will stay long until all our demand is being paid to us before we leave this protest.
08:21We will bring you more update as the story develops.
