Mission X continues for the Super Falcons of Nigeria and it's the ultimate litmus test
00:05
in the semi-final of the Women's African Cup of Nations and of course they're facing
00:10
defending champions South Africa on Tuesday.
00:13
That's a pathway to the final, yes a preview of the show.
00:16
My name is Ayam Lishitabu and this is The Nutmeg on Guardian TV.
00:21
Alright, of course welcome to a fresh episode of The Nutmeg and we're talking about the
00:29
Women's African Cup of Nations, the Super Falcons and I've got with me here a Super
00:34
Falcons fan, Sheyi Odeya, great to have you on the show.
00:38
Yeah, good morning Ayo, I don't know I'm excited to be here at least to talk about the Super
00:44
Falcons.
00:45
Yeah absolutely, let's dive right in.
00:46
The Super Falcons have made their way into the semi-final of the competition but there's
00:52
not a tougher test for them as it stands, South Africa are defending champions.
00:57
What do you think our chances are?
00:59
Well, on a scale of one to ten, I think we stand a chance to beat them, defeat them
01:06
because, I don't know if you watched their match really high in-
01:09
Yeah, against Zambia, 5-0.
01:11
That's mind-blowing, like I was not expecting it, like I never expected it.
01:17
So I know that they're going to do better, even in the Bayana Bayana, they have Dalami and all of that.
01:26
But I am sure that my girls will turn up.
01:28
Okay, our girls will turn up.
01:30
But let's talk about the girls on the other side, the South Africans.
01:34
Obviously, they are defending champions.
01:36
And if you look at their journey, although it's not been smooth for them, it's been a roller coaster.
01:41
They started well, at some point they defeated Mali 4-0 as well.
01:45
But in a couple of games, they managed some draws.
01:47
I think the last match was also a draw for them.
01:49
And, of course, it's quite difficult for them when you compare their journey with the Super Eagles.
01:55
What are their own chances of Trump?
01:57
Because Nigeria is clearly having a purpose here, and that's to win the tenth WAFCON in their history.
02:03
Well, the thing is, you know, you can never predict, you can't predict, but you can never be too sure.
02:10
So I think they also stand a chance of playing a nice game, actually.
02:16
But I think, you know, we've been on the defensive side lately, so I know that we're going to do better.
02:22
And I know they're expecting it, so I think they should be prepared.
02:27
But are you kind of expecting a tight game?
02:29
I mean, because they found it difficult, but Nigeria has also found it easier, so to say, free-flowing.
02:35
There's been some players that have turned up.
02:37
Rashid at Ajibadeh has turned up.
02:38
Yezua has turned up big.
02:41
And Nandozi has also been good in between the sticks.
02:43
You know, do you expect a tight game?
02:46
And who seems to have the hopper and going into this one?
02:48
Well, if we look at it from that angle, the thing is, right now,
02:57
I don't think they stand a chance against the Super Falcons.
03:00
Because lately, we've been moving with that determination that, okay, Mission X, yeah, we have to get it.
03:06
Yes, absolutely.
03:06
So, and with the Bayana Bayana, I don't want to, like, downplay anybody's effort or anything.
03:12
Obviously, they are defending champions.
03:13
They deserve some respect.
03:14
They are going to come through, but then I know that my ladies are going to do it.
03:18
I'm not trying to even be, what did I say, how do I put it?
03:24
I'm not trying to be a fan right now.
03:27
But the thing is, I know my ladies will turn up.
03:29
It's not bad to be a fan, you know.
03:31
We're obviously Nigerians.
03:33
But I know they are going to turn up, so.
03:34
Alright, so give us a score prediction.
03:38
Let's say, 3-2.
03:41
3-2.
03:42
Yeah, the Super Falcons will be 3-2.
03:43
That'll be an entertaining game for the new trials.
03:46
Yeah, well, 3-2 Super Falcons.
03:48
We can't wait, so.
03:49
Sheehy says it'll be 3-2.
03:50
