00:00:00My name is Miguel Diaz, and I have an opportunity that might just be perfect for you.
00:00:18I'm pitching an investment in an expedition to find the lost treasure of the Santa Iñez.
00:00:23This isn't just any treasure.
00:00:25It's said to be one of the most valuable treasures in history, worth millions of dollars.
00:00:31And it's been lost for over 200 years.
00:00:34I've put together a team of the best divers, researchers, and treasure hunters in the business.
00:00:39We have the latest technology and equipment to help us navigate the ocean floor
00:00:43and locate the treasure which we believe is buried under the ocean bed.
00:00:48Why invest in an expedition to find a lost treasure?
00:00:50For starters, it's a unique and exciting investment opportunity that you won't find anywhere else.
00:00:58And if we're successful in finding the Santa Iñez treasure, your investment could potentially pay off tenfold.
00:01:04Plus, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that you helped make an amazing discovery possible.
00:01:09So, are you ready to take a leap of faith and invest in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity?
00:01:14Let's make history together and uncover a lost treasure that's been waiting for us at the bottom of the ocean.
00:01:20All we have to do is follow step-by-step what he already laid out and find the Santa Iñez.
00:01:26What I want you guys to know is that we're going to document everything from start to finish
00:01:30and send it to y'all to give you the opportunity to be the first and few to invest in the discovery of the Santa Iñez.
00:01:40We finally arrived from New York.
00:01:54After such a rough trip, I almost whipped my camera while I was on the road for the car.
00:01:59But it's fine because now we're in Ponce de Leon and look, there's the famous lighthouse.
00:02:04Ponce de Leon is the shark capital of the world, so we'll see. This should be interesting.
00:02:19Miguel is trying out his new drone.
00:02:21We hope to take a lot of aerial shots if he's mastering the art of flying it above the water.
00:02:25Also, we're going to try to land it on the boat and not get it in the water.
00:02:31But, yeah, you'll be able to see from above how things are happening.
00:02:38My name is Maria. I'm Miguel's mother.
00:02:41And I could tell you hundreds of stories about him and his sense of adventure.
00:02:47And, you know, it all really, I think, started when he was five years old and we took him to SeaWorld.
00:02:53And he got so enthralled and amazed by the animals, but not only by the animals, but by the water.
00:03:02My name is Alonzo, and I'm Miguel's dad.
00:03:04I remember Miguel, one time, he was only five years old, and one Sunday morning, I got up early and I said,
00:03:16Hey, Miguel, you want to go fishing?
00:03:19And his eyes just opened up so wide, he said, Yes.
00:03:25Here we are at the historical Ponce Inlet Lighthouse, where tomorrow we begin our journey in the search of the Santa Innes.
00:03:32We will be documenting every step of the way so that you, our potential investors, can be part of the excursion.
00:03:39The ocean has so many mysteries.
00:03:42My team and I are coming together to solve one of the most endearing ones.
00:03:46What happened to the Santa Innes and its vast treasure?
00:03:51And pause for a moment.
00:03:54Sorry, it's pretty dramatic.
00:03:56You look so hot, babe.
00:03:58And cut.
00:03:58That was his first experience of seeing the whole ocean, very tranquil, and nobody around, and he was like, Wow, it's beautiful out here, Father.
00:04:12How was that?
00:04:13You look sexy, obviously.
00:04:14All right, come on, get in here.
00:04:16Can I have to?
00:04:17Come, um, yeah, come on, get in here, let's go.
00:04:19Okay.
00:04:20What do you want me to say?
00:04:20I feel silly.
00:04:21No, just do what you always tell me.
00:04:23Just act natural, and it'll come to you.
00:04:26Okay.
00:04:27Okay.
00:04:27You want me to ask you questions?
00:04:28Yes, please.
00:04:29Okay, all right.
00:04:30I love you.
00:04:33Sorry.
00:04:33I love you more.
00:04:34I'll be serious.
00:04:35No, no, you get, we'll cut that in post.
00:04:37My name is Griffin Johnson, and I'm an oceanographer.
00:04:41I've been studying oceanography my whole life.
00:04:44I initially studied at the University of Florida, but I've been placed here around Ponds Inlet for the past 20 years.
00:04:50So I've been studying real things in real time and real space here.
00:04:55There are a lot of tourists who come to this part of Florida in search of sunken treasure.
00:04:59When you look at the stats worldwide, historically, there are over 3 million shipwrecks at the base of the ocean.
00:05:08And, of course, the salvage of that is estimated to be in the billions and billions of dollars.
00:05:13So people will come here to Ponds Inlet in search of treasure, dollar signs in their eyes, adventure in their minds.
00:05:20But it's a very hazardous chore.
00:05:24It requires very sophisticated, expensive equipment.
00:05:27You have to have knowledge and experience, and it's very costly.
00:05:32And I compare it to basically being on top of the Eiffel Tower and trying to excavate a pebble in the sidewalk below.
00:05:39It's challenging.
00:05:40I mean, we call the bottom part of the ocean the Midnight Zone, which means it's sheer, utter blackness.
00:05:48You know, there are some bioluminescent creatures providing some light, but it's basically like being on an alien planet.
00:05:56So how do you find what's on the floor of the ocean?
00:05:59There are polymetallic nodules, which look like black lumps of coal, black potatoes.
00:06:06But you have to basically excavate them and figure out, is it just a rock or is it a remnant of a ship?
00:06:12So it's a tremendous challenge.
00:06:15And it's like finding a needle in a haystack.
00:06:17I compare it to being on top of the Eiffel Tower and trying to excavate a pebble on the sidewalk below at midnight.
00:06:24And it's raining, and you've got a rope with a piece of gum on the end of it, and you're trying to get that pebble.
00:06:29It's that challenging.
00:06:31And it truly is hit or miss.
00:06:34It's a lot of work, often for very little result.
00:06:37But everyone wants to find the treasure.
00:06:40Everyone wants to find the gold.
00:06:42And it's a mystery.
00:06:42You know, it's another world down there below, well, lower than one mile below the surface of the water, shall we say?
00:06:51It's the water, guys.
00:06:53In a few days, we'll have everything we need.
00:06:58Let's go.
00:07:00We're going to have to get in, like, fully.
00:07:03Yeah, I mean, we're going to have to go diving.
00:07:06Didn't I understand?
00:07:07That's fine.
00:07:09Okay.
00:07:09All right, guys, we're documenting everything, start and finish.
00:07:12So here, we're just testing the waters today, seeing how it is.
00:07:17South Añez.
00:07:19See you soon.
00:07:21When Miguel was 16, he got his diving certificate.
00:07:24And, you know, that was a little bit young.
00:07:26Most people do it when they're a little bit older.
00:07:28But he was determined to do it as soon as possible so that he could get out there and start finding his adventure and finding things he wanted to see.
00:07:39He was diving in coral reefs and picking up sea urchins and starfish.
00:07:44And he signed up for this excursion in Costa Rica.
00:07:49And I was just like, you're 16.
00:07:51But he wanted to go there and help clean up the beaches and dive in those waters and see what he could find.
00:07:59He wasn't going to let his age hold him back.
00:08:02And honestly, I wasn't going to either because I knew that that was his passion.
00:08:09Fabulous.
00:08:09This is it.
00:08:10This is a dream come true, right?
00:08:11A dream come true.
00:08:12So weird to hear somebody say that.
00:08:14It's, I don't know.
00:08:16Is this another day for y'all?
00:08:17Yeah.
00:08:19It's cute, though.
00:08:20He's so excited.
00:08:21We're all so excited.
00:08:22I mean, really, you have no idea how much work we've done to get this.
00:08:27We're not done yet.
00:08:28Are you doing okay?
00:08:29Yeah, babe.
00:08:32Look out there.
00:08:33We're not done yet.
00:09:03So I remember he just stood at the edge there of the sailboat and he just dove right in.
00:09:32And I'm watching him.
00:09:33I said, I didn't sense any fear from him.
00:09:36He didn't ask me if there's any danger of sharks or anything.
00:09:40No, he just dove in and he started swimming.
00:09:43We had the best time.
00:09:44And it was a very beautiful moment.
00:09:47Good afternoon.
00:10:08My name is Sheriff Geekass.
00:10:10I've been with the Volusia County Sheriff's Department since 2012 when they decided to work with the Fire Department and EMT.
00:10:21I'm here as a conclusive follow-up to the unfortunate disappearance of four young adults in the Ponce Inlet, ages early to mid-20s.
00:10:32Susie, wave to the camera.
00:10:38And this is Billy.
00:10:40Don't mind him.
00:10:41Pretty much always grumpy, but it's okay because he has a heart of gold.
00:10:45My name is Daniel and I'm Miguel's brother.
00:10:51Yeah, so he was always a bit of a risk taker.
00:10:56I had a bunch of friends and we would always be, we skateboarded a lot.
00:11:00And I'm five years older than Miguel and he kind of got noticed by my friends because he, just when he was like seven years old, he just jumped on a skateboard and bombed down this half pipe.
00:11:23Showtime, babe.
00:11:24And he just kind of got a lot of notice from, from my friends and he got a lot of respect for just being crazy.
00:11:35I guess I got a little bit jealous.
00:11:37So there was a little bit of a competition maybe.
00:11:42But I was always a bit more hesitant than he was.
00:11:46And I remember one time we were racing up a tree and I fell off and broke my arm.
00:11:58And that kind of put an end to my kind of risk taking.
00:12:04But he, you know, he wasn't deterred.
00:12:08He, he, that was just who he was.
00:12:11Here we are, guys.
00:12:13Miguel's not used to filming.
00:12:14Good to see you tonight.
00:12:15But this is good wine.
00:12:17Okay, no, you can't.
00:12:18This is wine anyway, that's what that is, right?
00:12:19We just got in the house.
00:12:20Are you excited?
00:12:21My name is Mark.
00:12:22I'm April's brother.
00:12:24We grew up in a small town outside of Orlando.
00:12:28And she was always daddy's little girl.
00:12:33She followed him around when he was around.
00:12:36She hung on his every word when he told us the stories of his adventures.
00:12:40And she was going to follow in his footsteps.
00:12:45I could tell from when she was a kid.
00:12:49She was adventurous and rambunctious.
00:12:53And there was no stopping her.
00:12:57April's terrified of sharks.
00:12:58Most people are, okay?
00:12:59I would rather not talk about it.
00:13:01Please, share your story.
00:13:03We've heard the story before.
00:13:05Billy mentioned it a few times, but I never heard it from you.
00:13:10Okay, fine.
00:13:11Pond's Inlet has an infamous claim to fame.
00:13:14They are known as the shark bite capital of the world.
00:13:17When you look at the sheer number of unprovoked shark attacks, it's quite shocking.
00:13:23There are various reasons why this part of Florida is so prime for this type of activity.
00:13:29And I would summarize it really in two areas.
00:13:32The tide and current activity brings a volatile influx of water.
00:13:38So there's a lot of bait fish close to the shore.
00:13:41Sharks are naturally hungry creatures, so they're going to be attracted to bait fish.
00:13:45The second reason is for people.
00:13:49It's a great surfing spot.
00:13:50So the influx of tourists and people every year brings a lot of activity in the water.
00:13:56So when the winds are stirred up and the weather may be volatile,
00:14:00the sediment is being moved from the base on up, and it's very murky waters.
00:14:06So you've got murky waters with bait fish and surfers and sharks.
00:14:11So the sharks aren't going to be able to distinguish when they see that little movement up there,
00:14:15the hand or the leg.
00:14:17They think it's just a fish struggling.
00:14:19So they think it's food, and humans, unfortunately, become prey.
00:14:23When I was a little girl, I was so afraid of sharks that I couldn't even go in the ocean without having an anxiety attack.
00:14:32Lakes and pools were fine, but never the ocean.
00:14:35But my dad wanted to show me how safe it was this one with sharks.
00:14:41And Billy, you know him.
00:14:43There wasn't really any saying no to my dad.
00:14:47So he took me on his boat one day, and it had a cage in the back.
00:14:52Obviously, whenever I figured out what he was doing, I threw a fit, but did it anyway.
00:15:02I was in the cage for about ten minutes, and everything was going fine, and then he got the crew to throw Chum in the water,
00:15:11and the sharks just started a frenzy.
00:15:14And it hit me that there I was, just a little girl, alone in the water, afraid of sharks.
00:15:36He finally let me out, and every time I went in the ocean with him after that,
00:15:42I just pretended to be okay, because I had to, but I really don't like sharks.
00:16:01So what's your deal, Miguel?
00:16:03Why are you a treasure hunter?
00:16:06I'm not, really.
00:16:08Hey, for may I should frame me up for this?
00:16:09Yeah, sure, babe.
00:16:10Let me get the focus.
00:16:11It's not just about finding treasure, or finding a loot.
00:16:15It's about finding history.
00:16:17It's about making a legacy.
00:16:19I don't want to be like everyone else.
00:16:21I don't want to pass up opportunities.
00:16:23I want to have a purpose.
00:16:24I want to have a reason why I'm here.
00:16:27All right?
00:16:27So, yeah, we can go search and find artifacts, find whatever,
00:16:32but I want to tell the truth of what really happened to Santa Inés.
00:16:35A traer respeto a mi nombre.
00:16:37Respeto a la raza.
00:16:40Esa la razón.
00:16:41Esa es por qué.
00:16:43Maybe I wasn't the ideal father, because I wasn't around that much,
00:16:48but I told him never to see obstacles that always see opportunity.
00:16:56Ready?
00:16:56All right.
00:16:58You ready?
00:16:58You're on.
00:16:59All right.
00:17:00Recap of the day, guys.
00:17:01We got our boat.
00:17:02We have our game plan.
00:17:03We have some amazing local divers going to be helping us out tomorrow.
00:17:06And, of course, last but not least, we got a super sexy camera girl.
00:17:11All right, guys.
00:17:11Hey, we are betting and hoping that by the end of these next few days, we're going to get you some amazing footage of, hopefully, the Santa Inés.
00:17:19As always, Vaya con Dios, we'll see you in the AM.
00:17:24I remember when he was getting ready to do something sneaky or very impulsive, he would just look at me and say, Vaya con Dios.
00:17:37And, that's a wrap on day one.
00:17:41Great job.
00:17:46So, what do you think?
00:17:47We got everything?
00:17:48Yeah, I think we got just about everything.
00:17:50I think it even annoyed Billy, to be honest.
00:17:53Good.
00:17:54Good?
00:17:55Yeah.
00:17:56We pained that guy.
00:17:57He was annoying.
00:17:58What's your problem?
00:18:00What's my problem?
00:18:02With Billy.
00:18:03You guys don't get along.
00:18:04You guys' relationship looks like it's a lot more than just professional.
00:18:08No, it isn't.
00:18:09I promise.
00:18:10The only reason Billy is here is because my dad trusted him, and he knows the local waters better than anyone else.
00:18:17So, there's no history between you guys?
00:18:22Okay, we used to date.
00:18:25Wow, April.
00:18:27I'm sorry.
00:18:28I should have told you.
00:18:29And, when she was dating Billy, um, have you ever met a narcissist?
00:18:38That's Billy.
00:18:40Uh, he shut her down in a way that I could tell was not good for her.
00:18:50It wasn't her choosing to be a normal, quiet person.
00:18:57It was him taking over their relationship, the space, her life.
00:19:04So, I was glad when they broke up.
00:19:07I went to New York to get away from this place and everyone here, including Billy.
00:19:14I promise you.
00:19:15I love you, Miguel.
00:19:17You have nothing to worry about.
00:19:19I didn't even think it was relevant enough to mention.
00:19:22That's how much I don't care about Billy that way.
00:19:26And he's the best?
00:19:27Yeah.
00:19:27We'll be safe.
00:19:28And we'll find what we're looking for.
00:19:32I promise.
00:19:35Okay.
00:19:36I'm sorry.
00:19:38Trust him.
00:19:40I love you.
00:19:41I love you, Mom.
00:19:43Come here.
00:19:43Come here.
00:19:58A few years ago, Miguel met April and, um, he'd never really had a serious relationship
00:20:13and I knew this was different.
00:20:17Um, she was a lot like him and, and, you know, it was like they were just soulmates
00:20:26and, um, he got really enthusiastic about the, uh, the treasure hunting and maps.
00:20:37And, I mean, it sounded a little crazy to me, but, um, he, he just, uh, had this real passion
00:20:48for her and for this kind of adventure that they wanted to go on.
00:20:53And, and, and I was really happy for her.
00:20:58Good morning.
00:20:58Man, sunrise is beautiful here.
00:20:59How's everyone feeling?
00:21:00Yeah, you like it?
00:21:01Yeah.
00:21:04No, there's nothing else like it.
00:21:07And that salty air.
00:21:09Getting the good smell of that.
00:21:12Suze, you gonna get the door for us?
00:21:15Oh, man.
00:21:17Switching's ours, man.
00:21:18You got everything?
00:21:19Biggest one.
00:21:20Biggest one?
00:21:20Biggest one.
00:21:21It's not the biggest one.
00:21:24Anybody else on that one?
00:21:25There's a lot of money in this marina, man.
00:21:26After last night?
00:21:27Yeah.
00:21:29There is a lot of money.
00:21:30But that's what happens when you drink beer.
00:21:31You're usually dead like this?
00:21:32I tried to tell you.
00:21:33You know, in an hour from now.
00:21:34Don't worry, I got your water.
00:21:35It's gonna be a lot more packed.
00:21:37Oh, you grabbed it?
00:21:38Yeah, I got it.
00:21:39If we waited any longer, honestly, it would be a nightmare just trying to get out of here.
00:21:46I'm not gonna lie, man.
00:21:46I don't know what it's called, dude.
00:21:48I'm not gonna lie.
00:21:49That water is cold.
00:21:51But you're gonna love it once you get in there.
00:21:54There's nothing like open ocean water.
00:21:59Just clear the mind.
00:22:02Is this her right here?
00:22:03This is her.
00:22:05Beautiful, isn't she?
00:22:06For our purposes, exactly what we need.
00:22:10Should we get the job done?
00:22:11Yep.
00:22:11Do me a favor.
00:22:12Just put it right back here behind these suits.
00:22:16I'm just gonna turn this on.
00:22:17Get a look.
00:22:17See at where we're going.
00:22:19Here we go.
00:22:21You ready?
00:22:22Yeah.
00:22:23Hi.
00:22:24My name is Mandy.
00:22:25I am Susie and Billy's younger sister.
00:22:28And Susie, Billy, and I, we grew up in a small beach town right outside of Orlando, Florida.
00:22:37And growing up, we were always at the beach, playing in the water.
00:22:42And our dad made us grow up on boats.
00:22:46He was such a boat guy.
00:22:47And we'd always be in the water, exploring the sea, seeing all the coral reefs, and seeing all the crazy fish that we could find.
00:22:58And we were really like the three musketeers.
00:23:02We were always together, playing in the water.
00:23:05And we felt like mermaids at times.
00:23:09And we loved it.
00:23:12The water was such a good escape for us.
00:23:15We all ready?
00:23:17Let's do it, man.
00:23:17All right, let's have some fun.
00:23:19Are you guys almost ready?
00:23:21Okay, let's go.
00:23:22I really shouldn't say anything, but it's 6.30 in the morning, and we're just now leaving to go about 10 to 15 miles offshore to shoot open and underwater.
00:23:32Miguel has a clear idea of what we want to shoot.
00:23:36Excruity.
00:23:37So, this is it.
00:23:40Let's do it.
00:23:41Billy was never really the person who had a plan in life.
00:24:07I love how everybody kind of grows up and they feel like they have a schedule of what they're going to do.
00:24:11He always lived freely and day by day and just in the moment.
00:24:16And I really envied that in him.
00:24:19And everything happens for a reason.
00:24:22And things will fall into place when they need to.
00:24:25The last time I talked to Miguel was September 10th.
00:24:28It was the morning that they had gone out into the ocean on their boat and they were going to film their sales pitch to the investors and explain to them exactly what they were going to do.
00:24:41And he was so excited that he's finally going to get this opportunity to share this wonderful experience and to let them know that he was the one that was going to be able to do it.
00:24:56He was the one that was going to find that treasure.
00:24:58And with their help in raising the money, he was going to be that explorer that was going to get what was buried under that seabed.
00:25:07First stop, though, is getting this loot, getting this treasure, getting this going, getting the investors invested.
00:25:14We'll worry about all that later.
00:25:17So, recently we've discovered some strange phenomena, some exciting developments in excavation.
00:25:22There have been two instances recently off of Portugal where we had some unusual sightings at the floor of the ocean.
00:25:30The first one was north of the Azores Mountains, just off of Portugal, at a depth of about 1.6 miles.
00:25:36The second one was about 300 miles away.
00:25:38This was on the Azores Plateau.
00:25:40It's near where the three tectonic plates meet, and this was at a depth of about one mile.
00:25:45What we discovered is so amazing and fascinating and bizarre.
00:25:49It's a series of holes on the floor of the ocean.
00:25:52And what's fascinating, when you see the photographs and you see the visuals, is that they're symmetrical.
00:25:57They're linear.
00:25:59They're about four inches apart over a grand total space of five to six feet.
00:26:03So, what are they?
00:26:04We've opened this up to the public.
00:26:06We've released it to the press.
00:26:08The wild speculation is, we'll make your head spin.
00:26:12Some people believe it's machine-made.
00:26:14Some people, of course, want to believe that it's alien-made.
00:26:17And some people think it's man-made.
00:26:19Now, within my own community of oceanographers, we've looked at it, and we call what we're
00:26:23seeing life traces, which means that the holes and the piles of sediment around them, and
00:26:29we call this bioturbation, the pattern of sediment around these holes.
00:26:33It's fascinating and unusual.
00:26:36We believe that it is made by some type of living organism.
00:26:40We're just not exactly sure what that living organism is.
00:26:44When you look at it closer, it appears that some type of marine life, possibly a so-called
00:26:50sea creature, may have burrowed into the sand.
00:26:53It looks like sediment has been displaced from the bottom up.
00:26:57The piles are kind of around the holes.
00:26:59So that indicates that it probably is some type of living organism.
00:27:04And I'm not going to kid you, there's millions and millions of species underwater.
00:27:08We've investigated many of them, but we don't know everything about all species.
00:27:13This could be something unusual that we've not yet discovered.
00:27:16It's what makes my profession so fascinating and interesting, is the next day you might learn
00:27:21something that you never knew before, and that's what I'm hoping this is.
00:27:24That would be exciting for me.
00:27:26So, are you guys excited or what?
00:27:28Yeah.
00:27:28Of course.
00:27:29You seem excited.
00:27:30So pumped.
00:27:31I'm so pumped.
00:27:31April and I have been putting to work for this for so long.
00:27:34Yeah.
00:27:34Of course I'm excited.
00:27:37So, what's up?
00:27:38Do you guys know these waters like the back of your hand, or?
00:27:41I'm going to let him answer that one.
00:27:44Someone here knows the waters like the back of their hand.
00:27:46It's me.
00:27:47Yeah, it's her.
00:27:48It's her, of course, yeah.
00:27:49She seems like she's the brains, man.
00:27:51Oh, yeah, yeah, obviously.
00:27:53And the good looks.
00:27:54And the good looks.
00:27:54See, they always say that until they meet her, and then they go, oh, never mind.
00:27:57Oh, I mean, the good looks for sure.
00:27:59Yeah, you got the brains that go with the looks.
00:28:01That's good.
00:28:01I mean, nothing comes to mind when I see this.
00:28:25It's just stillness and the beauty of it all.
00:28:30It's just, you know, it's just to meet how, you know, whatever.
00:28:41Oh, my God.
00:28:43Oh, my God.
00:28:45And I know what do you mean by that?
00:28:48Music
00:29:17The craziest idea he ever got was to go after this sunken treasure.
00:29:24This shipwreck, the Santa Ynez, he was convinced that there was treasure under the seabed.
00:29:31And he started this campaign because, as you can imagine, digging under the seabed is going to take a lot of equipment and it's going to be very expensive.
00:29:42But he was so determined.
00:29:44It is a tremendous challenge to excavate on the floor of the ocean and it requires very expensive equipment.
00:29:52There's a lot of robotic equipment which can provide the visuals because you have to appreciate we're in the midnight zone.
00:29:57There's sheer, utter blackness down there.
00:29:59So you have to have investors who can basically come in and front up to a million dollars, possibly more than a million dollars, to provide the crew and the equipment and the time and the effort.
00:30:11This is not a quick and easy task.
00:30:14It is a tremendous, tremendous challenge and it can take months and months of work before you have any results at all.
00:30:21It's a stab in the dark is the problem.
00:30:24When you see these polymetallic nodules, you don't know what they are.
00:30:29They've been there potentially for centuries, piles and layers of ore.
00:30:33Ores have basically been built around this marine debris and it could be nothing.
00:30:38It could just be a rock.
00:30:39But it could be the remnants of a shipwreck.
00:30:41And, of course, everyone hopes it's that box of treasure.
00:30:44You never know.
00:30:45But you have to do trial and error over and over and that costs a lot of money.
00:30:50So you have to have a very trained technical crew.
00:30:54You have to have dedication.
00:30:56You have to have patience.
00:30:57You have to have perseverance.
00:30:59It's a time-consuming task.
00:31:01A lot of people think it's kind of glamorous and exciting.
00:31:04But let me tell you, on a day-to-day basis, it's a challenge.
00:31:08It can be very frustrating because it's like hitting the wall over and over again.
00:31:13So what about you, Billy?
00:31:15Where do you want to go?
00:31:16Rome, obviously.
00:31:17Yeah.
00:31:18We've talked about Rome for a long time.
00:31:19You've got to see the Colosseum.
00:31:20You've got to see a gladiator fight.
00:31:22I don't think they do that anymore.
00:31:24You don't think they do it anymore?
00:31:25Nothing.
00:31:26You're going to try and hop in the arena?
00:31:28Oh, I'd love to if they gave me a shot.
00:31:31I thought they stopped having gladiator fights.
00:31:34So Billy's got hands?
00:31:35No.
00:31:36Not in the slightest.
00:31:38Well, if they let me fight in there, I don't know.
00:31:40Yeah, you'd be the first one out.
00:31:41Think I'd be the first one out?
00:31:42Yeah, of course you wouldn't.
00:31:43Are you joking?
00:31:44You can't fight.
00:31:45Susie's right.
00:31:46You'll be the first one out.
00:31:47I don't think flippers are going to do you much good in the gladiator fight.
00:31:50I don't need flippers.
00:31:51I just need these two hands.
00:31:53Egypt sounds really cool, but I haven't been to France.
00:31:56I haven't been to Paris.
00:31:58What about Rome?
00:31:59Yeah, I want to go to Rome, too.
00:32:00Yeah, see the Colosseum?
00:32:01No, I...
00:32:02I want to...
00:32:03The pasta.
00:32:04Of course, that's what you'd want.
00:32:05You'd go to Rome for the pasta and the pizza.
00:32:07Yeah.
00:32:08And get it here.
00:32:09For sure.
00:32:10For sure.
00:32:11Not to see everything.
00:32:12Spaghetti in the lotto.
00:32:13Thousands of years of history, but you get it for the pasta.
00:32:14You can't be detained, dude.
00:32:15I mean, seriously.
00:32:16You can do the history nerd stuff.
00:32:17Yeah, I will.
00:32:18I will.
00:32:19But I need to go with somebody.
00:32:20You lived in Italy for six months and my dad was in the Navy.
00:32:22Also, have you come across any sharks in this water?
00:32:25Have I come across sharks in these waters?
00:32:28You know you're in the shark capital of the world, my friend.
00:32:31It's just a mistake.
00:32:32Where are you from?
00:32:35Really?
00:32:36Sucks to be you, bro.
00:32:38Easy, Billy.
00:32:39Take it easy, Billy.
00:32:41There's probably not a lot of good, uh, snorkeling over there, no?
00:32:45Definitely not.
00:32:46Been out in the water out there.
00:32:47Yeah.
00:32:48Can't scuba dive up to the Statue of Liberty?
00:32:51Oh.
00:32:52You want stories, do you?
00:32:53Yeah, of course.
00:32:54That's why I'm here, man.
00:32:55I'm here for the adventure.
00:32:56I'm here for the story.
00:32:57Wow.
00:32:58What was it, uh?
00:32:59It was, uh, what was it?
00:33:00It was 1532?
00:33:01Was that when it was?
00:33:021532?
00:33:03We can't really put the historical background.
00:33:04But, yeah.
00:33:05It's 1532.
00:33:06Wait, wait, wait, wait.
00:33:07Legend?
00:33:08No, no, no, no.
00:33:09People only say legend because they haven't actually found the ship yet.
00:33:11Oh.
00:33:12Yeah.
00:33:13Yeah.
00:33:14It's 1532.
00:33:15Wait, wait, wait.
00:33:16Legend?
00:33:17No, no, no, no.
00:33:18People only say legend because they haven't actually found the ship yet.
00:33:20Oh, right.
00:33:21That does not mean it is not historically accurate that the ship existed and that it is somewhere
00:33:27out here.
00:33:28Now, do I know exactly where it is?
00:33:30Of course not.
00:33:31Otherwise, I would be there myself.
00:33:32Okay?
00:33:33I would have already found it.
00:33:34Keyword he just said, though.
00:33:35Yet.
00:33:36Yet.
00:33:37Yet.
00:33:38And that's what April and I have been working on.
00:33:39I mean, Nelson's been working on it since...
00:33:41We're gonna find it.
00:33:42We're gonna find it.
00:33:43Yeah.
00:33:44Yeah.
00:33:45No doubt.
00:33:46No doubt.
00:33:47Billy, what was it?
00:33:48Like a week ago?
00:33:49That...
00:33:50Yeah.
00:33:51So...
00:33:52It can happen.
00:33:53So, you just gotta be careful.
00:33:54But...
00:33:55Billy's the best and I don't think any of them would totally agree with it.
00:33:57I really hope we don't have to worry about that.
00:33:59I think...
00:34:00Yeah.
00:34:01Hopefully, good things come with the way we waited long enough for this.
00:34:04I don't think sharks really care about if you waited for them.
00:34:07Yeah, but...
00:34:08It's just kind of the natural order of things, but...
00:34:10I just...
00:34:11There's gotta be some obstacles, right?
00:34:14Yes.
00:34:15The nice thing about sharks, though, is that they're very peaceful animals.
00:34:19If you don't bother them, if you're not in their hunting waters, then they're not gonna bother you.
00:34:24So, the thugs of the sea?
00:34:26I wouldn't use those words for it.
00:34:31You know, I think it's more that sharks, they're not interested in eating people.
00:34:37They don't like the taste.
00:34:38They don't want to eat you.
00:34:39They can get a nice fat tuna, you know?
00:34:42Why would they want a Miguel steak, right?
00:34:45So, you know, as long as you don't flap around like a seal...
00:34:49Yes, but...
00:34:50You'll be just fine, don't worry.
00:34:51That doesn't mean they're not scary.
00:34:53Paperless and Miguel steak.
00:34:54Later that day, I was expecting a call from Miguel.
00:35:05He told me that he was gonna call me once they were done filming their pitch.
00:35:09The excitement in his voice, you know, I could hear how excited he was, and I couldn't wait to hear from him about how the filming went and how he felt about it.
00:35:21But I didn't get a call.
00:35:26And I started to wonder, are they too far out?
00:35:31Is there no reception?
00:35:32Are their phones not working?
00:35:34And I waited, because it's not like Miguel not to call me.
00:35:39He calls me every day.
00:35:40He and I, we talk all the time, and he's always so excited to share his adventures with me, and I'm always waiting on the other line to hear all about it.
00:35:50And when I didn't hear from him after the first day, I got very scared.
00:35:57And after the second day, I had to call somebody.
00:36:01I had to call the police because I was so worried that something had happened, and I needed to know why my son hadn't called me.
00:36:14And I tried to call April.
00:36:18I tried to call April, too, and she wasn't answering.
00:36:21And after a day, after two days, after three days, I just didn't know what to think.
00:36:36Where was my son?
00:36:38On or about September 12th, we received several distress calls from fellow boaters in the Ponce Inlet of a mysterious, abandoned, 26-foot-long family pontoon,
00:36:52of which we immediately dispersed the local Coast Guard and several other agencies to investigate this pontoon.
00:37:06This is a system that I was dealing with with a tremendous計算 of.
00:37:18The estimation that we were going after the last year is about to stop.
00:37:32The last time I spoke with April was on a dedicated meeting atuddery.
00:37:35April was on September 9th, the day she landed in Florida from New York to head out for Miguel's
00:37:43pitch. I called her and I expected to meet up with her in person, her being in Florida for the first
00:37:50time in a long time, but she said they were too busy. They had to prepare, they had to wrap their
00:37:58heads around the pitch the next day. And so I made sure to tell her to be safe and we made plans to
00:38:08meet on the docks near our old hideout when she got back. And so I went and I waited because I knew
00:38:19they wouldn't have a signal when they were out and that I would just see her when she got back.
00:38:25And she never showed. And I could feel that something was wrong. It wasn't just her usual
00:38:36running off on an adventure and I'll see you when I'll see you. I could feel that she wasn't coming back.
00:38:49So what are you going to do with the money if you find it?
00:38:57See that girl in the water? I'm going to get a rock. Put a ring on it.
00:39:04How domestic of you.
00:39:07I remember on the 10th of September, I know because it's my daughter's birthday, that I
00:39:17got a call from my mom because she hadn't heard from Miguel and she was really worried.
00:39:26And I was a little concerned because he hadn't called for her birthday and that was just very
00:39:42unlike him. He was, he loved them a lot. And so he always made sure, always made sure to call them.
00:39:53Take care of my mom. You know, a woman like that, she deserves to find her things in life.
00:40:04And you can give that to her then, I guess.
00:40:06I mean, that's why we're here. I'm also one of those finer things in life.
00:40:13Gotcha. You're also incredibly humble, don't forget.
00:40:17When I have to be. Right.
00:40:21But hey, sometimes being aware is better than being humble.
00:40:27That's not.
00:40:30So what about you, hmm?
00:40:31What about me?
00:40:34You and your brother.
00:40:38Is there a question in there, or?
00:40:40How long you guys been at this?
00:40:41Well, life's pretty much. I mean, our dad, our dad ran the business before Billy took it over.
00:40:50My dad passed away a couple months ago and
00:40:52yeah, between that and April leaving, it's just been, it's been a lot for him.
00:40:59It's out here then.
00:41:01I know I've lost her dad too, so.
00:41:03Life can lead you in a lot of different directions.
00:41:05And I think it all depends on who you surround yourself with.
00:41:11And when she chose to go with her ex and her current boyfriend,
00:41:18that created a situation where a lot could go wrong.
00:41:24Um, I think she wanted the best of this adventure.
00:41:32And the people she surrounded herself with were not on the same page.
00:41:39Billy wanted her back.
00:41:40I don't doubt that.
00:41:42Billy was jealous.
00:41:45Miguel was not the kind of guy to back down.
00:41:47Miguel was headstrong.
00:41:52And
00:41:53the combination of those two people around her,
00:42:03I think, are why she's not here.
00:42:17All right, Billy.
00:42:20Yeah, we've got about two miles left.
00:42:22In about two and a half miles, yeah, we'll be in Ponce Inlet.
00:42:29It's, um,
00:42:31with the tide coming in, we'll have about five hours to find everything.
00:42:36You know, see what there is.
00:42:38Or what there isn't.
00:42:40Oddly enough, that day,
00:42:42I was actually supposed to be on that boat and not Susie.
00:42:45Um,
00:42:48I
00:42:49ended up getting a
00:42:51interview that
00:42:53I couldn't turn down.
00:42:55So,
00:42:56I told Susie that she should go with him.
00:42:58And
00:42:58growing up,
00:43:00Susie and Billy were always super close.
00:43:02And
00:43:02I felt like
00:43:04they would have a good time
00:43:05anyways.
00:43:07So, I
00:43:08really felt good about it
00:43:10at the time.
00:43:14Never ventured out to
00:43:15fine.
00:43:16Sansa, you need to ask yourself?
00:43:18No, I'm not interested in that.
00:43:21You were once interested.
00:43:24I was once interested.
00:43:27But that was a long time ago.
00:43:29Okay, I get it.
00:43:30But you don't have to act like
00:43:31you just don't care anymore.
00:43:32I do care.
00:43:36Okay.
00:43:37That's why I'm here helping you find it right now, okay?
00:43:40Well, that's what I thought.
00:43:41I just,
00:43:42you just said you weren't interested, so...
00:43:44No, I said I'm not interested.
00:43:46I am interested in helping you find it.
00:43:49I'll tell you what I'm interested in.
00:43:50I'm interested in us getting to this spot,
00:43:52getting our dives in,
00:43:53and getting what we need.
00:43:54All right.
00:43:55Keep your trousers on.
00:43:56We'll be there in a second.
00:43:57In my professional opinion,
00:44:02I think that many people
00:44:04that come down to Ponce Inlet
00:44:06take the surroundings for granted,
00:44:08being that the surroundings are beautiful.
00:44:10And we have the tallest lighthouse in the country,
00:44:13if not the tallest in Florida.
00:44:15People tend to forget
00:44:16that they're dealing with the wild.
00:44:19This is nature.
00:44:20We have the toughest riptides in Florida,
00:44:24along with the highest percentage of shark attacks.
00:44:28Oh, babe.
00:44:29I said it's bright.
00:44:30It's okay.
00:44:30You look hot in the sun.
00:44:31Yeah?
00:44:31Okay.
00:44:32Let's go with it.
00:44:33Yeah.
00:44:33Okay.
00:44:34All right.
00:44:34So this is what I'm going to do.
00:44:35I'm going to hop in.
00:44:36As soon as I hop in,
00:44:36I'll pop right back up.
00:44:38And I'm going to go ahead
00:44:38and do my first kind of just introductory
00:44:40of what we're doing today
00:44:40and how it's going, okay?
00:44:41Okay.
00:44:42But, hey, for real,
00:44:43I want to sound confident.
00:44:45I want to sound like I know what's going on,
00:44:47but I don't want to sound douchey, all right?
00:44:49Just focus.
00:44:49I'm serious.
00:44:50I'm serious.
00:44:50Just be yourself.
00:44:51Okay.
00:44:51All right.
00:44:51So it's going to sound like this.
00:44:53Pop in.
00:44:54Pop out.
00:44:55Hey, guys.
00:44:57Hey, guys.
00:44:57Should I say guys or should I say?
00:44:59Just be yourself.
00:45:00Stop thinking about it so much.
00:45:01Just do whatever comes to mind.
00:45:03Okay.
00:45:03Go again.
00:45:04Okay.
00:45:04Okay.
00:45:04All right.
00:45:04Take two.
00:45:05Take two.
00:45:05Scratch that first.
00:45:06All right.
00:45:06So I'm going to jump in.
00:45:08Pop back up.
00:45:09Hey, guys.
00:45:10How's it going?
00:45:11So we are here to go ahead
00:45:12and start our journey.
00:45:14See, I don't know.
00:45:14I'm not feeling it.
00:45:15I'm not feeling it.
00:45:16So the tides and the currents
00:45:17in this part of Florida
00:45:19are very volatile.
00:45:20And if you're going to dive in,
00:45:23you have to be prepared.
00:45:25You need to be an experienced
00:45:26swimmer and diver.
00:45:27We always, always recommend
00:45:30that you bring an experienced
00:45:31buddy swimmer or buddy diver with you.
00:45:33But you have to understand
00:45:35how the tides and currents work.
00:45:38It is most dangerous
00:45:39to swim and dive
00:45:40when you're at high tide or low tide.
00:45:43So in simplistic terms,
00:45:44water will rush towards the shore
00:45:46at high tide,
00:45:47and that's a flood current.
00:45:49Water will rush away from the shore
00:45:51at low tide,
00:45:52and that's an ebb current.
00:45:53But what swimmers and divers
00:45:54need to know
00:45:55is it's particularly dangerous
00:45:56at high tide or low tide.
00:45:57The influx of strong currents
00:45:59is just too extreme.
00:46:01So you can't just be a tourist
00:46:03who wants to enjoy
00:46:04the beautiful water.
00:46:05You have to know about this stuff
00:46:07so that when you go into the water,
00:46:09you can basically be prepared
00:46:10for anything that might happen.
00:46:12You could get caught
00:46:13in a down current,
00:46:14in which case they're going to drag you,
00:46:16the water's going to drag you,
00:46:17farther out and farther down
00:46:19than you want it to be.
00:46:21So to help combat against this,
00:46:23you need to be
00:46:24in strong physical condition.
00:46:26Don't be just that casual swimmer
00:46:28from your swimming pool
00:46:29in your backyard.
00:46:30You need to be trained
00:46:31and experienced.
00:46:33And you have to have
00:46:33a very clear mental state
00:46:36because you will panic
00:46:38if you get caught
00:46:39in a down current
00:46:40or an up current
00:46:41or you get caught
00:46:42against current.
00:46:43God forbid you end up
00:46:44in a riptide
00:46:44or a rip current.
00:46:46You have to stay calm.
00:46:47Your first reaction
00:46:47will be to panic.
00:46:49You know,
00:46:49riptides are often shaped
00:46:51like this.
00:46:52And if the shore is here,
00:46:55if you're in the middle
00:46:55of a riptide,
00:46:56everyone wants to basically
00:46:57get out as fast as possible.
00:46:59That's your immediate
00:46:59panic response.
00:47:01So they want to go
00:47:01the shortest,
00:47:02quickest distance.
00:47:03But you're swimming
00:47:04against current.
00:47:05You're going to use up
00:47:06all your energy.
00:47:07You're going to go nowhere.
00:47:08You have to understand
00:47:09you have to swim
00:47:10out of the rip current.
00:47:12Take the longer path
00:47:13to the shore.
00:47:14So it takes a very clear mind
00:47:16to think this process through.
00:47:18I mean,
00:47:18I have been caught
00:47:19in a rip current.
00:47:20And your heart
00:47:21will start beating.
00:47:22You'll feel the panic.
00:47:23But then you have to
00:47:24remember your knowledge,
00:47:25remember your training,
00:47:27stay calm,
00:47:28and do what you're supposed
00:47:29to do.
00:47:30And you will survive.
00:47:31But you cannot assume
00:47:33that a life card
00:47:34is automatically
00:47:34going to save everyone.
00:47:35They can keep track
00:47:36of all the swimmers
00:47:37and divers out there,
00:47:38unfortunately.
00:47:39The Ponce Inlet
00:47:40in Florida
00:47:41was explored
00:47:42and discovered
00:47:43by Ponce de Leon
00:47:44in 1513.
00:47:46And he even noted
00:47:47the aggressive
00:47:48predatory wildlife
00:47:50in the inlet
00:47:50along with the
00:47:52very, very dangerous
00:47:54waves and riptides
00:47:56where the Indian Ocean
00:47:57meets the Atlantic.
00:48:06water's cold.
00:48:15It's not as bad
00:48:15as I thought.
00:48:16It's cold.
00:48:19The water's great,
00:48:20the weather's great.
00:48:21Hey, but we're here.
00:48:22You made it.
00:48:23No.
00:48:25Am I good here?
00:48:26Yes.
00:48:27Just more to the left.
00:48:28Okay.
00:48:28All right.
00:48:29Is this good?
00:48:30Yep.
00:48:30And don't forget,
00:48:31I love you
00:48:31before you go
00:48:32get all jealous again.
00:48:33I love you more.
00:48:34Okay.
00:48:35Let's do it.
00:48:36One, two, three.
00:48:40Woo!
00:48:41All right, guys.
00:48:42Hey, welcome to our journey.
00:48:44We're here to embark
00:48:45on the mission
00:48:45to bring in the Santa Añez.
00:48:47And you guys
00:48:48not only get front row seats,
00:48:49but you guys get to see
00:48:50from start to finish
00:48:51how we bring it up.
00:48:53So, my investors,
00:48:54everybody that's interested,
00:48:56just to let you know,
00:48:57this is not just for the loot.
00:49:00It's history in the making.
00:49:01I know, Billy.
00:49:02He's corny.
00:49:03All right.
00:49:04How was April?
00:49:05It was great, baby.
00:49:06You look hot.
00:49:07Awesome.
00:49:08Hey, you look hot.
00:49:10If I was a shark,
00:49:11I'd eat you first.
00:49:12And please don't.
00:49:14You know how I feel about that.
00:49:17I'll tell you what.
00:49:20I don't know
00:49:20how you ever left this place.
00:49:21I mean,
00:49:22it's a little more complicated
00:49:23than that.
00:49:23I mean,
00:49:23I haven't even been back
00:49:25since what happened.
00:49:26You know?
00:49:27I know.
00:49:28I mean,
00:49:28I'm excited.
00:49:29I know my dad
00:49:30would be proud,
00:49:30but I'm a little nervous.
00:49:32Are you sure
00:49:32it's going to be safe?
00:49:33Oh.
00:49:35There's always a little bit
00:49:36of danger in every adventure,
00:49:36right?
00:49:37And I'll tell you the truth.
00:49:39Your dad would be
00:49:40more than proud of you.
00:49:42I mean,
00:49:42he literally sent
00:49:43a boot parent for this.
00:49:44And now you're going
00:49:45to finish his legacy.
00:49:46I know, babe.
00:49:46We're going to finish
00:49:47his legacy.
00:49:50I love you.
00:49:51I love you more.
00:49:52And hey,
00:49:54when we're done with this,
00:49:56we're going to be rich.
00:49:57You better.
00:49:58Yeah.
00:49:58I mean,
00:49:59I trust you,
00:49:59so...
00:50:00You won't have to sell
00:50:01any food pics or anything.
00:50:02We got this.
00:50:04I thought we agreed
00:50:05not to talk about that.
00:50:06Something else, baby.
00:50:08Something else.
00:50:09I waited
00:50:10until dark
00:50:12that day,
00:50:13expecting maybe
00:50:14the tides kept her out.
00:50:18But
00:50:19when she didn't show,
00:50:23I figured
00:50:24I'd
00:50:24come back tomorrow.
00:50:27I went home
00:50:29and I called her
00:50:29hoping that maybe
00:50:31she had a signal.
00:50:32I left a couple
00:50:33voicemails
00:50:34begging her
00:50:36to get back to me.
00:50:40I went back
00:50:41to that doc
00:50:41the next two days
00:50:44and when she still
00:50:46didn't show
00:50:47and didn't call
00:50:47and
00:50:48I went to the police.
00:50:54I told them
00:50:55she was missing.
00:50:56It had been
00:50:5748 hours
00:50:58and
00:50:58no one had seen her.
00:51:02They said
00:51:03they would look into it.
00:51:04But
00:51:06so I went
00:51:06and started
00:51:07asking around
00:51:08the people in the area
00:51:09to see if they
00:51:09had seen the boat
00:51:10return
00:51:11that no one had.
00:51:16I called their school
00:51:17to see if
00:51:18maybe they had
00:51:19chosen to
00:51:20fly home
00:51:21to New York
00:51:22or
00:51:22nothing.
00:51:27Then I started
00:51:28reaching out
00:51:28to Miguel's family.
00:51:30His
00:51:30mother had
00:51:32no idea.
00:51:34It was
00:51:38scary.
00:51:41No one
00:51:42really knew
00:51:42what had
00:51:43happened.
00:51:44You think
00:51:45through a lot
00:51:45of different
00:51:46scenarios,
00:51:47you know,
00:51:48like was there
00:51:49some kind
00:51:49of fight?
00:51:51Was there
00:51:52a shark
00:51:54attack
00:51:55or
00:51:56I don't know
00:51:59about the currents.
00:52:00sometimes
00:52:02these
00:52:03there can be
00:52:04undertow
00:52:05or
00:52:05I'm not really
00:52:07an expert,
00:52:08but
00:52:08it's still
00:52:10a mystery
00:52:11as far as
00:52:12I'm concerned.
00:52:13what's that look?
00:52:25What's what look?
00:52:28You look like
00:52:28some
00:52:29you look like
00:52:30a kicked puppy
00:52:30dog.
00:52:31She really
00:52:34got under
00:52:34your skin,
00:52:35huh?
00:52:36Apparently.
00:52:37Yeah.
00:52:38Yeah.
00:52:38I mean,
00:52:39can you blame
00:52:39me,
00:52:39though?
00:52:40No,
00:52:40I don't
00:52:40blame you
00:52:41at all.
00:52:42You're a bigger
00:52:43person than I am.
00:52:43I couldn't get
00:52:44on a boat
00:52:44with my ex.
00:52:44Yeah,
00:52:45now I'm starting
00:52:46to think I made
00:52:46a mistake
00:52:47doing it.
00:52:50Yeah.
00:52:50I mean,
00:52:51we need the money,
00:52:51but it...
00:52:52That badly?
00:52:53That's what
00:52:53I'm wondering.
00:52:56And
00:52:56the speech.
00:52:59The speech
00:52:59this guy made.
00:53:01The speech
00:53:02wasn't so bad.
00:53:03I think
00:53:03just him
00:53:04as a person,
00:53:05he's a little...
00:53:06I don't know,
00:53:06I just don't see...
00:53:07Maybe that's why
00:53:07the speech
00:53:08was so just...
00:53:11I mean,
00:53:12I know
00:53:13people are stupid
00:53:14out there.
00:53:14They're gonna
00:53:15buy into this.
00:53:16People are gonna
00:53:17get so excited
00:53:18about discovering
00:53:19treasure.
00:53:20Treasure that
00:53:21after hundreds
00:53:22of years
00:53:22has never been
00:53:23found.
00:53:24I know,
00:53:25I know.
00:53:26But who knows?
00:53:26There's always
00:53:27a possibility.
00:53:28Whatever.
00:53:29What can you do?
00:53:31Except take
00:53:31their money.
00:53:32Except take
00:53:32their money?
00:53:35I just don't
00:53:36see...
00:53:37I guess I just
00:53:38never pictured
00:53:38April with
00:53:39somebody like
00:53:39him.
00:53:40You know?
00:53:41At least not...
00:53:42Again,
00:53:42it's been a while,
00:53:43but...
00:53:44She just...
00:53:46She hasn't
00:53:47changed,
00:53:48but clearly
00:53:49her distant
00:53:49guys has.
00:53:51Or...
00:53:52You should have
00:53:54at least doubled
00:53:54the price to get
00:53:55them on the
00:53:55dollar.
00:53:56If you
00:53:56wanted to be
00:53:57petty.
00:53:58I know,
00:53:58I know.
00:54:01If we need
00:54:03the money
00:54:03that bad,
00:54:04then...
00:54:04I know,
00:54:05I just...
00:54:07April called
00:54:07and asked.
00:54:08I mean,
00:54:08what was I
00:54:09supposed to do?
00:54:10You know?
00:54:11Gouger?
00:54:13For more money?
00:54:14It would have
00:54:15been petty.
00:54:16She is still
00:54:16your ex.
00:54:17I don't know,
00:54:18I just...
00:54:18She dumped you
00:54:18with no explanation.
00:54:19I don't know
00:54:20if I would see
00:54:21it as petty.
00:54:22I thought you
00:54:23were, like,
00:54:23past this.
00:54:24I guess I'm
00:54:24a little shocked
00:54:25that this is
00:54:26affecting you so much.
00:54:27I thought I was,
00:54:28too.
00:54:29I don't...
00:54:29Susie ended up
00:54:32going to the
00:54:33dinner with Billy,
00:54:34and then the next
00:54:35day, I was
00:54:36supposed to go
00:54:37on the boat
00:54:37with him
00:54:38to make him
00:54:40feel comfortable,
00:54:40and I couldn't
00:54:44go because my
00:54:46shift at work
00:54:46ran a little
00:54:47too late,
00:54:48and I called
00:54:49Susie and begged
00:54:51her to go with
00:54:52him to make him
00:54:53feel more
00:54:53comfortable being
00:54:54around April,
00:54:56and eventually
00:54:57she said,
00:54:58sure, and Susie
00:55:01went on the boat
00:55:02with him, and
00:55:04parts of me
00:55:05overthinks that
00:55:09time and
00:55:10that conversation
00:55:11because that
00:55:14could have been
00:55:14me, and maybe
00:55:18I would have
00:55:19lost my sister
00:55:20and my brother.
00:55:27Sorry.
00:55:28Maybe I'm
00:55:29too harsh.
00:55:31So, I mean,
00:55:32what...
00:55:34How long are
00:55:35we going to be
00:55:35here?
00:55:36Like, is this
00:55:37going to take
00:55:37forever, or...?
00:55:39However long
00:55:40Romeo and Juliet
00:55:41want to be here,
00:55:41I guess.
00:55:42I don't know.
00:55:43Do you think
00:55:44that people are
00:55:45actually going to
00:55:45invest in this?
00:55:46Yes, people are
00:55:47stupid, and they
00:55:48will invest in any
00:55:49number of stupid
00:55:50ventures, so
00:55:51people will
00:55:51absolutely be
00:55:52lining up to get
00:55:53that money.
00:55:53Yeah, he definitely
00:55:54charming people on
00:55:58like, on the
00:55:59Zoom call.
00:55:59Were you
00:55:59listening to him?
00:56:01Yes, I was
00:56:02listening to him.
00:56:03Yeah, he knows
00:56:04how to...
00:56:04I don't know.
00:56:05That was charming?
00:56:07Maybe charming
00:56:08is not the right
00:56:09word.
00:56:09No, I...
00:56:10I know, I'm
00:56:11trying to be
00:56:12nice.
00:56:13Yeah, I know
00:56:13you are, and it's
00:56:14always your don't
00:56:15don't seem to us
00:56:16probably, though.
00:56:16He's a little
00:56:18sleazy, though.
00:56:19Yeah.
00:56:20Yeah?
00:56:20See, I didn't want
00:56:21to be the one to
00:56:22say it first, because
00:56:23you know, from me,
00:56:24it looks petty.
00:56:25From you, it's...
00:56:26It's honest.
00:56:26It's somewhat
00:56:27objective.
00:56:28Somewhat objective.
00:56:29My brother, Billy,
00:56:30grew up kind of a
00:56:33loner, but when he
00:56:34met April, it was
00:56:36like a complete
00:56:37180 in him, and
00:56:39he was happy.
00:56:41Like, I saw
00:56:41genuine happiness
00:56:42in him, and he
00:56:45trusted her, and
00:56:46he would confine
00:56:49into her about
00:56:50his...the things
00:56:50that he never felt
00:56:51like he could
00:56:52into somebody, and
00:56:53it was nice.
00:56:54It was really nice
00:56:55to see that, and
00:56:56to see him happy.
00:56:58And then...
00:57:00They weren't
00:57:02perfect, and I
00:57:05guess she ended
00:57:07things with no
00:57:10explanation, and no
00:57:12reasoning, just
00:57:13left with nothing.
00:57:16And that devastated
00:57:18him.
00:57:19He had no idea what
00:57:21he did wrong or what
00:57:23he could have changed
00:57:24or done better, and he
00:57:27was not the same.
00:57:29And the brother that I
00:57:31knew before was not
00:57:33who I saw anymore, and
00:57:36it was hard.
00:57:38It was hard to see my
00:57:39brother so broken, and
00:57:41no words that I could say
00:57:43to help him be or feel
00:57:45better.
00:57:48Let's do it!
00:57:51All right, ready?
00:57:52Okay, let's just put this
00:58:06on the tripod so we can
00:58:07get a chat.
00:58:11Taking pictures of the
00:58:12guys?
00:58:14Yeah, look at my girl's
00:58:16face on this one.
00:58:16It looks so silly, yeah.
00:58:22What's this?
00:58:24I don't know, everything's
00:58:26been so serious.
00:58:27I just thought maybe some
00:58:28footage of us laying out
00:58:31while the guys do all the
00:58:31work?
00:58:32Sure.
00:58:33Remember when we used to
00:58:39go to my Aunt Sidney's and
00:58:40watch Angus songs and
00:58:42perfect snogging?
00:58:43Yeah.
00:58:44Buy new pairs of pajamas
00:58:45every time and eat ice
00:58:46cream all night?
00:58:47Yeah, that was a while
00:58:49ago.
00:58:49God, it was a long time
00:58:50ago.
00:58:51It feels like yesterday and
00:58:52like 18 years ago all at
00:58:54once.
00:58:56Yeah, what is it, 10 now?
00:59:01A lot of people would say
00:59:02opposites attract and in
00:59:04Billy and April's case, I
00:59:06would definitely say that
00:59:06was true.
00:59:08Billy was definitely a
00:59:10shyer guy and April was
00:59:13very, very outgoing.
00:59:15So she brought out a lot,
00:59:16a lot in him.
00:59:18He, every time he would not
00:59:20want to say something, she
00:59:22would make him talk and it
00:59:24was, it was nice to see
00:59:25that in him.
00:59:26But then she met Miguel
00:59:28and it was different.
00:59:33But the way she talked about
00:59:35him, it was like she was
00:59:36talking about dad.
00:59:38So like, I have to, I have
00:59:44to ask you this.
00:59:46You don't have to answer if
00:59:47you don't want to, but.
00:59:49One day I came home and I
00:59:52saw Billy and he looked so
00:59:55upset and I asked him and he
00:59:57didn't want to talk about it
00:59:59at first.
01:00:00So I really was worried that
01:00:04something went wrong.
01:00:05I could just feel it and he
01:00:08eventually opened up to me and
01:00:10said that April left and went
01:00:12to New York and gave him
01:00:14absolutely no reason of why she
01:00:18did.
01:00:18He just, she just left and that
01:00:20really devastated him.
01:00:23And he wasn't the same after
01:00:25that.
01:00:27Why did, why did you, um, like
01:00:34what, what is this whole thing
01:00:35about?
01:00:35Why of all people, like, you
01:00:36know, so many people that do
01:00:37this, why did you call Billy?
01:00:41Miguel was different from Billy,
01:00:44but not necessarily in a good
01:00:48way.
01:00:51He felt reckless to me and she
01:00:56was going to go along because it
01:00:58was more open and free than her
01:01:01time with Billy, even if it
01:01:03wasn't safe.
01:01:06I've noticed you and Billy have
01:01:07kind of been like talking a little
01:01:11bit and like, I know, I know what
01:01:14you're, I know what it looks like
01:01:16when you're flirting.
01:01:17So I would appreciate it if you
01:01:21kind of didn't do that.
01:01:23When April told me that Billy was
01:01:25taking them out on the boat, it
01:01:28worried me.
01:01:29Uh, he did not take their break up
01:01:31well.
01:01:32Um, I knew he wanted her back and
01:01:36I knew he would not handle being
01:01:39on a small boat with her and
01:01:41Miguel well at all.
01:01:43In some ways you're exactly the
01:01:45same and, but I just never knew
01:01:47you to be so selfish.
01:01:51Really?
01:01:52Like, I, yeah, you left, man.
01:01:57Like, yeah, I was thinking about
01:01:57myself.
01:01:59We know it's my life.
01:02:02I wanted to see more things.
01:02:04I want adventure.
01:02:05I don't want to just be in a place
01:02:07that brings back pain all the time.
01:02:09Great.
01:02:09It takes two seconds to go see
01:02:11your boyfriend of how long were you
01:02:13guys together, a year and a half,
01:02:14and be like, hey, this isn't working
01:02:16out.
01:02:16I need to go find myself or whatever
01:02:18you wanted to do.
01:02:19And, you know, but you just, it was
01:02:21like you dropped off the face of the
01:02:22earth.
01:02:23We didn't hear from you for a long
01:02:25time.
01:02:26And now, and then, and then, no,
01:02:29and then all of a sudden you, you
01:02:30pop back up out of nowhere, like,
01:02:32Billy answers the phone and it's
01:02:35you asking us to help you and your
01:02:38new boyfriend, asking for a favor.
01:02:41Like, I don't, I don't get it, man.
01:02:43I really don't.
01:02:44It.
01:02:48Anyway, like I said, it's not really
01:02:51my business, but just if you, if
01:02:53you could be so kind as to not break
01:02:56my brother's heart again, I would
01:02:57really appreciate it.
01:02:58Honestly, Susie, I'm not talking about
01:02:59this on camera right now.
01:03:03I hoped he'd gotten better and was
01:03:09going to be accepting of the
01:03:12situation, but I doubted that that
01:03:16would be the case.
01:03:18He's, um, he's not changed in a long
01:03:22time.
01:03:22Ooh.
01:03:49Ooh.
01:03:52Billy, thank you guys for being here, you and Susie.
01:03:59Susie!
01:04:01I'm sure they're fine.
01:04:12Ocean's a little rough today.
01:04:14Yeah, it's the ocean.
01:04:18Right?
01:04:18It's weird seeing you without a camera in my face.
01:04:24Well, here I am.
01:04:25Yeah, here you are.
01:04:27With, uh, this guy.
01:04:31What do you mean by that?
01:04:33I mean, I just, I can't believe that you go for that sort of cheesy charm, if you can call it that.
01:04:40Cheesy?
01:04:41Yeah, very cheesy.
01:04:42He's passionate and successful.
01:04:45Yeah, and cheesy.
01:04:47And, oh, the speech.
01:04:49I am, I just, I hung on to every word of that speech.
01:04:54It was beautiful.
01:04:55Good, I'm glad you liked it.
01:04:56Yeah, yeah.
01:04:58Very sincere.
01:04:58He's very passionate about what he does.
01:05:00Yeah, I can see that.
01:05:01Yeah, yeah.
01:05:01I am.
01:05:03Big brother.
01:05:04Big brother.
01:05:17Give me anything.
01:05:17Let's go.
01:05:47Let's go.
01:06:17Let's go.
01:06:47Okay, Billy.
01:07:00So that's just it then?
01:07:03Billy, look, I'm sorry for the way I went about things.
01:07:07I just, I had to get away.
01:07:13I'm sorry.
01:07:13I don't know how to explain it.
01:07:15I still don't.
01:07:16I understand.
01:07:16I did it then, obviously.
01:07:18I know you had to get away.
01:07:20I understand what you were going through, but you could have at least talked to me about it.
01:07:23I didn't know how.
01:07:24Do you know how betrayed you left me?
01:07:27Did you know the hole that you left behind in me?
01:07:32Do you know what it was like for me trying to move on?
01:07:34Like, and finally I started to feel like I was.
01:07:37And you come back and it just felt like it all just ripped back open again.
01:07:45I'm sorry.
01:07:51It is what it is.
01:07:52I should have done things differently.
01:07:52I'm sorry.
01:07:55But I, I don't have those same feelings for you anymore, Billy.
01:08:01I have love for you, but I'm not in love with you anymore.
01:08:04You're not in love with me?
01:08:05No.
01:08:05Not even a little bit?
01:08:08Billy, no.
01:08:11Look me in the eyes and tell me you don't still have feelings for me.
01:08:17April, look at me.
01:08:19Stop looking away.
01:08:20I don't have feelings for you like that, Billy.
01:08:23You don't have any feelings for me.
01:08:25Billy.
01:08:25You're not being convincing.
01:08:27I wouldn't be doing this if you were convincing me that you didn't.
01:08:32No, I don't have feelings for you anymore, Billy.
01:08:35What else do you want me to say?
01:08:38I want you to say the truth, and I don't believe you.
01:08:40I'm telling you the truth.
01:08:41You're telling me the truth.
01:08:42I'm not in love with you anymore.
01:08:46Now stop.
01:08:48Stop.
01:08:48Yeah, stop.
01:08:50You don't want to be in my life anymore.
01:08:53Unless I can help you.
01:08:54Not in the way that you want me in your life, Billy.
01:09:05So, I don't really know what happened on that boat that day.
01:09:09Um, the investigators said that there was a guy on the boat that was apparently April's boyfriend, and his name was Miguel.
01:09:19And I could see how that would draw up some tension between Billy and April, and I know my brother doesn't really drink, so I know there wasn't alcohol involved.
01:09:34But, you know, love makes you do some crazy things.
01:09:42After receiving several distress calls, we immediately dispatched the local Coast Guard and several agencies.
01:09:51Upon finding the abandoned pontoon, we brought it to shore and found on the pontoon some diving equipment, a few iPads, some cell phones, no signs of life, and some half-eaten food, some bottles of soda.
01:10:10And, uh, okay, April, have it your way.
01:10:19Let's have some fun.
01:10:22Okay.
01:10:24Glad you changed your mind.
01:10:27Yeah?
01:10:29Susie!
01:10:30Susie!
01:10:31I can't find her!
01:10:33That's not funny, Miguel.
01:10:34She's missing!
01:10:35What?
01:10:37She's right next to me. She's not here anymore.
01:10:39Susie?
01:10:40Oh, she's in the boat.
01:10:45What?
01:10:46Look, how is she?
01:10:48What happened?
01:10:49Why did you not see her?
01:10:51Susie!
01:10:53Hey!
01:10:59Right now, where did you see her?
01:11:02Susie!
01:11:04Susie!
01:11:04Susie!
01:11:04Susie!
01:11:05Susie!
01:11:05Susie!
01:11:05Susie!
01:11:05Susie!
01:11:06Susie!
01:11:06Susie!
01:11:06Susie!
01:11:07Susie!
01:11:07Susie!
01:11:07Susie!
01:11:08Susie!
01:11:08Susie!
01:11:08Susie!
01:11:08Susie!
01:11:08Susie!
01:11:09Susie!
01:11:09Susie!
01:11:12Susie!
01:11:14Susie!
01:11:15Was she put the drive on the Vàadads?
01:11:17Yeah!
01:11:17I'm reverend!
01:11:20Let's go!
01:11:21What's your coming out of here?
01:11:23I'm looking for her, Matt!
01:11:24She was right there!
01:11:26She was right there!
01:11:27She was right there!
01:11:27She looked out there!
01:11:28Upon dispatch of the Coast Guard, it was reported back to us that the Coast Guard had found
01:11:39the vessel approximately 4.2 miles offshore.
01:11:43We expected to find very little, if any, fuel upon the vessel.
01:11:47To our surprise, there was plenty of fuel to get back.
01:11:51From going to the border.
01:11:54Take over there.
01:12:00Rosie.
01:12:02Rosie.
01:12:04Rosie.
01:12:05I don't see anything.
01:12:08Where were you?
01:12:11Where were you?
01:12:13Mick Agora, where were you?
01:12:15I don't know.
01:12:17I don't know where you were.
01:12:18You don't know where you were?
01:12:20Are you kidding me? Where were you, McHale?
01:12:23It was just before, man.
01:12:24You were fucked right there.
01:12:25Right where? Right where?
01:12:26I'm just kidding after a second.
01:12:29Where exactly were you, McHale?
01:12:32Don't...
01:12:36Where the hell were you?
01:12:37Put the fuck on him.
01:12:38Get off me, McHale.
01:12:39Where the hell were we going?
01:12:40Get off of me.
01:12:41Run down.
01:12:42We're gonna find you.
01:12:43We're not gonna find you like that.
01:12:47Certainly.
01:12:50Get off me!
01:12:55Okay, okay. It's okay.
01:12:59I'm gonna see something.
01:13:00Are you gonna see something?
01:13:07Look at the water!
01:13:08Look at the water!
01:13:09Look at the water!

01:13:11Run!

01:13:13Run!
01:13:14Help!
01:13:15Help!
01:13:16Get off me!
01:13:17No!
01:13:18Get off me, McHale!
01:13:19Get off me.
01:13:20Get on the boat!
01:13:21Get off the boat, McHale!
01:13:22Stop filming and get on the boat!
01:13:26That's a good boat!
01:13:56Once we dispatched the divers, I believe there was at least a half a dozen divers from
01:14:06two different agencies, we decided to drop down 35 to 40 feet.
01:14:13On day two of the search, we found the skeletal remains of what we believed to be the four
01:14:22young adults and it was confirmed and concluded after DNA research that unfortunately these
01:14:30remains were of the four young adults.
01:14:52Looking into my mom's eyes and knowing that we lost...
01:15:18Two of the most amazing people in my life is so hard.
01:15:38I really wish that could have been me on that boat.
01:15:41Yeah, my brother's passing, it definitely caused me to reflect on my own life and to think
01:15:49about how we differed.
01:15:54I've definitely lived my life very different to him and been very reluctant to take risks.
01:16:00But when I think about how passionate he was for life and the experiences that he had, it made
01:16:16me want to embrace that a little bit more and I actually signed up to have a scuba lesson just kind of in tribute to him.
01:16:35I don't know how to live without them.
01:16:45Susie and Billy were one of my best friends.
01:16:55I don't even, I don't even, I don't have words to say to my mom.
01:17:07I don't know what I can do to help or where I can stand to be better.
01:17:14I just wish I could take those moments back.
01:17:21He died doing what he loved the most.
01:17:24He died happy.
01:17:26He died adventuring.
01:17:30He died exploring.
01:17:32And that was all he ever wanted to do.
01:17:36And if me as a mother, like, yes, I miss my son terribly.
01:17:45But I'm happy that he was doing what he loved.
01:17:51He was doing what he always wanted to do.
01:17:55And I'm just so proud of him for just never giving up.
01:18:00He never quit trying to discover.
01:18:06He never quit because it was hard.
01:18:09He never quit because it was dangerous.
01:18:11He did it because he loved it.
01:18:14It made him happy.
01:18:16And I'm just happy that he, he just did it.
01:18:29He just did what he wanted to do.
01:18:33Hey Billy, can you give me some shots real quick?
01:18:36Action shots.
01:18:37I'm just gonna get like, get ready and stuff like that.
01:18:38Okay?
01:18:39All right, go ahead and get my arm, get into the sleeve.
01:18:41Boom.
01:18:42Nice.
01:18:43Nice.
01:18:44Other one, other one, other one.
01:18:46Yeah.
01:18:47Let me get the zipper real quick.
01:18:48So, back.
01:18:50Perfect.
01:18:51Sign it up.
01:18:52All right, let me get the flippers here real quick.
01:18:59Okay.
01:19:00This is gonna come back home.
01:19:07From here.
01:19:08Yes.
01:19:09Okay, keep your arm up long enough.
01:19:10Are you ready for this?
01:19:12Can you grab your arm?
01:19:13The water is a little strong, but let's go with God, always.
01:19:18Ready?
01:19:21Sometimes in life one has to live in the moment.
01:19:28But there are surprises in life.
01:19:35There are always surprises that change you completely.
01:19:39And when that happens, you have to live in the moment.
01:19:48And sometimes it's very difficult, but those are things in life.
01:20:01I just couldn't believe it.
01:20:03I couldn't believe that my adventurous, strong, wonderful son was gone.
01:20:15You know, he thought he was invincible and maybe I did too.
01:20:19A toast to the brave men who lost their lives on the Sunpei Yangs.
01:20:28And women.
01:20:30Hey, we don't know what's down there. We don't know what's down there.
01:20:33I mean, come on down.
01:20:35No way again.
01:20:36No way again.
01:20:42No way again.
