The scrolling shooter genre is one that you either love or hate. While my skills have deteriorated over the years, I still love giving games in this genre a go here and there. Sure, without the help of YouTube, I will never see the ending for 99.99% of them (I cannot do bullet hell games at all) but I still find many of them fun. Copper Storm is one of the latest to hit my radar and good news for side scrolling shooter fans, it is funded and busting through stretch goals now. So, warm up your Super Nintendo, Sega Mega Drive, or Neo Geo now and get your pledge in ASAP.

00:00All right, 2D side-scrolling shooter fans, you're going to want to listen to this one.
00:04It's a new game called Copper Storm. It's currently on Kickstarter.
00:08It is fully funded and has already reached several of its early lower-priced stretch goals.
00:14It is coming out for the Super Nintendo, Neo Geo, and Sega Mega Drive.
00:17I'm assuming they mean also the Super Famicom compatible and Sega Genesis compatible.
00:24They didn't mention all that.
00:26But anyhow, now what's interesting here is they're taking the inspiration from a couple of classic shooters.
00:35Ones are running gun and others are 2D side-scrolling similar to Copper Storm.
00:39Now first up, we have the 2D shooter, Thunder Force 4.
00:44Mainly what they're pulling here is they're pulling inspiration for the verticality to the levels.
00:48Don't want to fight the enemies down below? Go above them.
00:52You want to go up top too rough? Go down.
00:55Next we have the other arcade game, well, or the shooter game, which happens to be an arcade game for the Neo Geo and several home ports.
01:05That is Metal Slug.
01:06Now the inspiration for Metal Slug at first for me was a little hard to tell.
01:10It's not like the game is like super detailed here, which is my initial thought for the Metal Slug inspiration.
01:18Now scrolling down on their Kickstarter though, you'll see where they have the various enemy animations.
01:23And now I can see what they mean by the, that they're pulling inspiration from Metal Slug.
01:30The enemies don't just, you know, blink like they did back in the day.
01:34I mean, they swell up.
01:35They look at the camera and fillet all their hands.
01:38I mean, they have a lot of animation.
01:40That's, you know, like Metal Slug.
01:43Now graphically, you know, this is more of a, I can't really place it.
01:48I would say it's probably, if you're going to place this somewhere, it's kind of like a, a lot like Rocket Knight on Sega Genesis.
01:58Maybe, what was that one?
02:00There was a, you flew a blimp or something.
02:04Steel Tap, no, no, Steel Talon.
02:06Steel Empire.
02:07It has a graphic style, slightly less detailed than Steel Empire.
02:12Now, if you're a fan of these games, definitely check this out.
02:16It's, I mean, it's, side scrolling, you know, 2D scrolling shooters are the black sheep of gaming.
02:24With side scrolling shooters leading the pack.
02:29But if you're a fan of the genre, you know, obviously you love or hate it.
02:33You know, there's really no one in between.
02:34You're either a fan of the side scrolling shooters or scrolling shooters in general, or you're not.
02:40If you are a fan, check out their Kickstarter.
02:43I'll have links in the description.
02:45Thumb some support.
02:46You know, whether it's a like, a share, a comment, maybe back the project.
02:50Support those making the games that you want to play.
02:52So that maybe we all can get more games that we all want to play.
