Phil Smith discusses as part of his Q&A with fans out in Portugal as the Black Cats wrap up their summer trip
Transcript
00:00How many more signings do you think we need? I think a goalkeeper, two centre-backs and a striker.
00:05And Charlie says, what positions are we actively looking at transfer-wise? How many will we bring in?
00:11Road Park Legends says, how many more signings do you think we will make?
00:14So they're definitely still doing work to try and sign another goalkeeper.
00:18That's something that's been pretty clear to me from my conversations.
00:22People inside and outside the club for a while now.
00:25Labrice basically confirmed that to me last night.
00:27And they still want another left winger or a versatile winger who can play off both sides.
00:32That's probably a better way to describe it.
00:33Because of obviously the Lorienter deal falling through.
00:36I think the feeling is that they need some more cover.
00:38Obviously, Adingra will be going to the effort in the Cup of Nations.
00:41Talby, as I mentioned, is quite young and experienced.
00:43Might take a little bit of time to really settle.
00:46So they're definitely looking at another winger.
00:47Hang on, let me just count as I go through.
00:50Clearly, at least one centre-back is a massive priority, potentially two.
00:54And they're still looking at a midfielder.
00:58That's obvious.
00:59And I still think there's a chance, although it's been a little bit quieter around it, of a striker.
01:03So I think I'd probably go to five or six there.
01:05I think that sounds a bit about right when the players who are from injured come back as well.
01:11So still a huge amount of work to be done to get this squad Premier League ready, to be fair.
01:15But as I reflect on the trip, I think there's loads of positives.
01:18I think there's a good team that can potentially be competitive coming together here and making really good progress.
01:23There's a lot of hard work to be done, but the signs are pretty encouraging.
01:26So, thank you.
