00:00Who I have to say is a player I'm really, really excited about.
00:03I've been spending some time watching his clips, looking at some of the statistics about his career so far and what have you.
00:11This guy's a really, really exciting player, a very, very young player still.
00:15Not quite as experienced at senior level as some of the players that we've been talking about this summer.
00:21So, Talby's 20, come through Club Bruges' youth system. He's actually declared, I believe, for Morocco at international level.
00:32But he's been at Bruges for a number of years.
00:35And last year was very much his kind of breakout season, if you like, as a senior player.
00:40So, he had made some appearances prior to last season for Club Bruges' senior team.
00:45But last season was very much the kind of first time he played as a regular player.
00:50So, 27 appearances in the league last season, around 1300 minutes.
00:5712 of those games were a start.
00:59So, yeah, a player who now has a good level of senior experience at top tier football.
01:04Also featured in the Champions League for Club Bruges last season.
01:07Which is obviously an incredible achievement for such a young player.
01:10But still someone very, very much in the early stage of his career.
01:13So, very much a player who's someone deciding, knowing and believing that there's a huge amount of development still to do there.
01:19So, maybe not quite the finished article, if you like.
01:24Or as closer to being the finished article as some of the players who we've talked about so far this summer.
01:28And may go on to talk about this summer.
01:30But also someone with, as I say, a good level of top tier experience.
01:34You know, the pace and the intensity of top tier football is not going to be a surprise to him.
01:39Having to play against some very, very good teams in the Champions League last season.
01:43The number one thing from watching some of Talby this morning.
01:48Pace.
01:49This guy is rapid.
01:52So much of the footage I've watched.
01:54I think it's clear from the players that we've talked about.
01:57We'll talk a little bit about with Siddiqui later as well.
02:00I think Sunderland are very much gearing up for a team.
02:03Trying to address the fact that the physical jump to the Premier League is vast.
02:07That you need athleticism.
02:09That you need pace.
02:10A, because of, as I say, the intensity and the athleticism of the Premier League.
02:14But also, B, I think recognition of the fact that Sunder, increasingly, we've seen over the last year.
02:18Developing this counter-press and counter-attacking style.
02:21I think next season is going to be an even bigger example of that.
02:24Because Sunderland, I think, have to be realistic about the fact that they're not going to see a huge amount of the ball from game to game.
02:31So I think watching Talby's footage, so much of his best work was in transition.
02:37Breaking above the opposition full-back.
02:39Able to cover a huge amount of distance on and off the ball in a very, very short space of time.
02:44And so I think he will add a lot to Sunderland's transition play.
02:48If you think of, you know, the way that, obviously, in a different position because he's a striker.
02:53But if you think of the way of Wilson Eastdale sort of making those runs over the top when Sunderland play in transition.
02:59Obviously, Talby's doing that from a wide position.
03:01But definitely someone who's able to kind of open up the pitch for you in a very, very short space of time.
03:06Now, he's played right-footed predominantly and played the vast majority of his football so far on the right wing.
03:12However, I think Sunderland is signing him, thinking that they've potentially got a really versatile player here.
03:17Because he's played a decent amount of football on the left wing, not as much.
03:21He has scored goals with his left foot.
03:23He's clearly not as comfortable on his left foot as he is with his right.
03:26But he can sort of make actions on his left foot.
03:29And if you think about the way Sunderland play, their two wingers quite often cutting inside, shooting, crossing, being quite explosive.
03:36I could definitely see Talby fulfilling that role in the way that Romain Mundell does off the left.
03:40So I think that's one that we'll have to wait and see develop over time.
03:43As I say, he seems to be predominantly a right-footed right winger.
03:46But I don't think we should get too carried away with that at the moment.
03:49Because I think it's clear he's got the potential to play off the left as well.
03:52And I think Sunderland will be recruiting with him that in mind.
03:54Because it's something he has got some experience of.
03:57I think what I would describe Talby as from what I've seen so far and what kind of the study that I've done,
04:02I would describe him as explosive.
04:04He really is someone who comes alive in the final third.
04:07I think that's where his key statistics are.
04:10He ranks very, very well for sort of expected goals and expected assists in the Belgian League.
04:15That tells you that he's someone who is a very, very direct winger, if you like.
04:19He's wanting to get in the box.
04:20He's wanting to get into goal-scoring positions.
04:22So looking, doing some analysis on Wisecout, I can kind of give you a little bit more,
04:27a little bit more sort of meat on the bones than that and just explain a little bit what I mean.
04:33So he was sixth in the entire Belgian division for key passes for 90 minutes that he played.
04:40So that again tells you someone who's really getting involved in the final third.
04:43That's not just wingers either. That's midfielders, players of all positions.
04:47So I think that tells you he's kind of a really dynamic player in the final third.
04:51He ran 10th for the number of progressive runs he was making per 90 minutes.
04:56So again, that again tells you someone who likes to carry the ball, who likes to drive in dangerous areas.
05:01He finished, he was 14 for touches in the opposition penalty area per 90 minutes.
05:07Now I think that's a really interesting statistic because that's not just for wingers.
05:11That includes strikers, midfielders, every position on the pitch in the Belgian league.
05:15He was 14th for the most touches in the opposition penalty area per 90 minutes.
05:19That tells me that it's no coincidence that he's someone who ranks really, really well for goals and assists in terms of wingers.
05:25Because I think that tells you that his instinct is to get in the box, to get close to goal.
05:30And so I think he brings something a little bit different to someone's wide options with that.
05:34Also 6th for the amount of crosses he makes per game per 90 minutes.
05:38So again, I think that tells you someone who's doing the vast majority of his work in the final third.
05:42Now, of course, you would expect that for a winger.
05:44But I think the fact that he's ranking so highly in the division on these key statistics, I think that tells you what kind of player he is.
05:54He also ranked 13th across the entire division for the amount that he progressed the ball by dribbling.
06:01So essentially how far he was carrying the ball with the ball at his feet.
06:06Now that isn't weighted for per 90 minutes, so that's just in total.
06:10So when you think about the fact that he won't have played as many minutes as a lot of the players that he's kind of up against in those rankings.
06:15That again is a bit of a standout start.
06:17So yeah, Talby, still a lot of development to do.
06:20Versatile, huge amount of pace and has already shown that he can put the ball in the back of the net and create things as well.
06:26So I think it's quite an exciting sign and really exciting to see how he goes.
06:31And I think we've all looked at the wide areas as somewhere where we need to see some more competition and some more quality from Sunderland to kind of complement those established options.
06:41He's obviously done a really good job for a period of time.
06:43And I think Talby is a really, really positive start on that front.
