On "Forbes Newsroom," HarrisX Founder and CEO Dritan Nesho discussed voters' attitudes on President Trump's immigration policies.
Transcript
00:00Within the past six months since President Trump started his second term, one of his bright spots
00:06polling-wise has been his handling of immigration, despite some critics saying that some of those
00:12policies go too far. What do voters think now in July? Are they still happy with how he's handling
00:18immigration? Well, he has his highest approval on the immigration issue at 50%. By and large,
00:26Trump wins on most of the dimensions of the immigration debate, but there are some exceptions.
00:34The exceptions really are around due process. Voters side with Democrats on the importance of
00:42offering immigrants due process, and certainly voters believe in birthright citizenship, and 65%
00:54say that actually the Constitution requires it, versus 35% who don't say that it requires. So
01:01really, the majority would support the children of those who are here illegally in the United States
01:06to automatically become U.S. citizens. So a lot to like on the immigration side. Voters like the fact
01:18that the border has been closed, like the fact that the number of intercepted illegal crossings has
01:25dropped almost to a negligible amount, if not zero, under the Trump administration. They like the
01:32enforcement processes that are going into place. They like the focus on convicted criminals who are
01:40also illegal aliens here. And frankly, they want local governments and law enforcement to collaborate
01:50rather than fight with the administration. But at the same time, they want it to be done well and to be
01:57done sensibly. And we see them breaking with Trump on those specific points. So immigration is definitely
02:04the bright spot of the administration. But even there, there are some, there's some work to be done
02:13to do it better and really claim it as a runaway win. And the administration has the opportunity to do
02:20that. If it, if it listens to voters and certainly aligns with them on some of these core issues like
02:29birthright citizenship and beyond.
